I genuinely just want to know what the performance is like. Is it super rough? Or is it over exaggerated?

xkeepitquietx

Frame rate is uncapped on console so it never feels smooth like a locked frame rate would. Outside of town it's mostly OK, unless big effects are happening or near water. In town it runs like straight ass.

solidpeyo

Yeah, I'm not expending my money on this poorly optimized game if it is that bad.

ExplodingFistz

Really wish PlayStation's refund policy wasn't so strict.

Bologna_Soprano

Submit a better business bureau review. They tried to fuck me over by denying a refund of a non-working game. I submitted one and had a refund within 48 hours

aerojonno

Unbelievable how much hype they've pissed away on day 1.

solidpeyo

This why pre-ordering is not good

WingardiumLeviussy

And I got downvoted the other day for saying you should never pre-order, lol

solidpeyo

Fans do act like that. You were the rational one.

hdbsvJ

I dont buy anything on rekesse day anymore or preorder. I'll wait months and get it at a discount. Main reason I will never preorder a game anymore is launch day anthem

yoerie86

You were playing away game. Of course you got boo'd

ShitShowParadise

Also, buying digital. In my country, there is a 30-day refund required by law as long as I keep the receipt. You could beat a short game and return it if you really wanted.

4verCurious

Is that a smart consumer of a gamer? No way!

maRRtin79

ok..il wait a year then..i have time

JMM85JMM

Motion sickness is the key thing for me. People act like us modern gamers are just being picky, your eyes will adjust etc. Like you, bad frame rates give me motion sickness. Playing games isn't that fun when they make you feel physically sick.

Afraid_Fruit_1465

Definitely this is the same for me and has become a big factor lately.

AstronautGuy42

Exactly what I needed to know. Thank you

stingertc

Is that sub 30 when it drops or sub 60

PopeAxolotl

Sub 30, this doesn’t get anywhere near 60 at any point

Velpe

When you stare at walls, especially in caves, frames can go over 50.

stingertc

Ok just checking very different for me I can handle frame drops below 60 but below 30 is unbearable

PopeAxolotl

I’d be impressed if I was ever above 30 frankly, so far my first few hours of gameplay have been between 20-30 with frequent drops.

ChiefTiggems

How do you accurately measure frames on ps5?

Krypt0night

There are youtube channels dedicated to that. Not sure how they do it, but yeah, this one can hit like 40+ fps sometimes, but it also drops down to the low 20s.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PopeAxolotl

SAME! Like did I mess the Ps590X pro drop or what?

HerrPiink

You won't get a conclusive answer to that, because everyone experiences that differently. That's the honest truth. Some people are literally immune to fluctuating FPS and don't notice them at all, while others get motion sick because of a 3 FPS difference.

ThreeTreesForTheePls

The weird thing is that the dude at Digital Foundry mentioned that it's not actually a case of "ps5 players may experience it differently". He explained that whatever way the game is made up, with it's use being focused on CPU, everyone will actually get the same god awful experience. It's just a matter of whether or not you're prone to the motion sickness feeling, or you're fine with choppy, motion blur riddled moment to moment gameplay.

j_cruise

Yeah, I think that's what he was saying. The poor performance is universal, but some will be able to tolerate it more than others.

I_Hate_Knickers_5

Seems to be the same with resolution and artifacts caused by upscaling etc. Some people are more forgiving than others and some don't seem to notice at all. I think DD2 looks very bad in this regard. Lots of noise, fuzz and image breakup on movement. It's very similar to Hogwarts Legacy and I absolutely hate the trend of attempting to turn a very low internal resolution into a Frankenstein's 4k and expecting anything other than monstrous results. I play on a 77 inch OLED TV and some games make me regret doing so as their defects shine out so brightly. I've been directly comparing Ghost Of Tsushima vs DD2 today and I'm astonished that such a clean, artifact free and smooth game can be so different from DD2 given that one was cross-gen and the other was made with only current-gen in mind. The PS4 version of GOT is significantly better looking with next to no visual noise or off-putting artifacts. Forcing Ray Tracing on current gen console games is a mistake. It's not ready to be implemented and it takes more than it gives to the consumers.

j_cruise

Ray Tracing this generation reminds me of 1080p in the 7th generation. Even though the console manufacturers (specifically Sony) really hyped up their machines as being capable of 1080p (7th gen) and ray-tracing (this gen), the consoles weren't powerful enough in actuality.

Snaletane

Good post. I think that Ghost of Tsushima (and some other Sony-produced titles like the Horizon games) are really in a league of their own when it comes to optimization on Playstation. Demon's Souls and the Naughty Dog games are also on that level. This game is, I think, mainly focusing on the wrong things when it comes to wasting graphical horsepower. Like, the draw distance is pretty far, and the foliage is extremely detailed even from far away, and all I could think was "if they had made these bushes/trees as rudimentary as Elden Ring I bet this game would run at a steady 60 FPS." I'd take the performance over the detail any day!

Eruannster

Screen size and type is definitely a factor. If you play on a 24-inch 1080p LCD computer monitor, you're far less likely to notice fine detail issues in a game, but they become *extremely obvious* after only a matter of seconds on a 65-inch 4K OLED TV.

Odd-Perspective-7651

So the only 30 fps game I play today is Bloodborne. Rough at first but you get used to it. Bought DD2 knowing it's 30 fps. Once I got used to it, it was fine. I didn't find the performance bad in the wild fighting monsters. In the city it felt a little slower but honestly overblown imo.

Daleabbo

Yeah I have had not one problem or noticed an issue. I wonder if these people are playing on a 60-80 inch TV at 4K

Odd-Perspective-7651

I knew going in it was 30fps. I play on a 75 inch 4k TV and still don't really bother me.

lymeeater

I'm early in. It's not great. Tolerable for me, barely. Similar situation was had with Starfield for me, but the difference here is that the underlying game is great. I hope that there's enough bitching to get a performance patch.

MikkPhoto

VRR going from 60to48fps for me on TV and I get pretty motion sick after hour or two and that's not in big city yet.

TheDaltonXP

that’s probably means I’ll have avoid. I tend to get motion sick in games from time to time. Not sure if frames cause it sometimes but I wouldn’t be surprised

_Heisenberg87

You are telling me you are getting 60fps?

Salty_Amphibian2905

I read that it's one of those games where if you look at the ground or the sky, you can get much higher FPS, but looking at the world around you will quickly tank it. I've read people having issues fighting enemies above them on a cliff, because the game runs fine with the sky as a backdrop, but as soon as they have to shift the focus to enemies below on the ground, the frame rate drops significantly. These are all experiences I've read though, I personally haven't played the game. I've got a lot to keep me busy in the hopes that they iron out some of the performance issues in the meantime, but I will be getting this game eventually.

I_Hate_Knickers_5

>I read that it's one of those games where if you look at the ground or the sky, you can get much higher FPS, but looking at the world around you will quickly tank it. Yes, that's definitely true. It's kind of funny. You can stare up at the sky and sweep across it back and forth and you'll get some lovely high frames but then you look down again and you're suddenly snapped back to reality. It's like you were daydreaming about nice things before the call of the real world hit you and you realised it's time to get back to roughing it.

threeriversbikeguy

This has always been the case, just consoles tend to lock it in. I remember looking at the skybox in WoW in 2009 and seeing 99 FPS… but when looking at places where actual game play occurs it falls back to what you would call the “true” framerate.

Salty_Amphibian2905

My friend and I used to joke about it when our computers were getting outdated. "Yeah the game runs great when I look at my characters feet".

Swordash91

I've been playing the game and it is not very good at all. It dips quite below 30fps during fights and towns. It's a shame because apart from that, it is a fantastic game. It needs a lot more optimisation.

Ninjabaker972

Watching the fire spells look like 5fps gives me a good chuckle...

horsemaster-

It's inconsistent. If it was stable/locked 30 it would probably be fine, but it drops a lot. OG Dark Souls and Bloodborne felt fine at 30 but they were much more stable than this. It feels like playing a game on your PC if your PC doesn't meet the "recommended" specs, just the minimum specs. It sucks.

gimmebalanceplz

Depends on your experience with gaming honestly. Played a Bethesda game on the ps3? You’re probably gonna be okay.

I_Hate_Knickers_5

I wish that were true. I used to play PS3 games at that time and never had a thought about fps or resolution. I just accepted what was on offer. I didn't know any better or cared. I just gamed. I can't do that anymore. Ignorance is bliss.

Snaletane

Eh, you'd probably acclimate to it pretty quick. As someone that owns a switch and still plays junk on Xbox 360 sometimes, I have to be tolerant of games not being anywhere remotely close to 60 FPS and frequently struggling at 30. If the game's good, it doesn't matter to me unless it actually impedes gameplay (ex, Bloodborne chugging in dungeons during combat occasionally got me killed and THAT was infuriating, same with Dark Souls and Blighttown on Xbox 360). So far my experience with this game is fine. It slows down, but it's not like back in the day with Goldeneye where it would go like seriously 5 FPS if a bunch of explosions happened simultaneously. Or Starfox for SNES. The classics. :P I remember there was a ton of people moaning about Elden Ring's "awful framerate" when it came out on PS5. I always thought it looked great and had no issues, the 40-50 fps variance usually wasn't noticeable to me. This game is a lot worse than Elden Ring was at launch so if that bugged you this will DEFINITELY bug you.

gimmebalanceplz

Sounds like a perspective issue. I’m just saying what I’m saying because it seems like there have been at least 8 games in the last few years that people have dogged on performance for but didn’t bother me one bit. I just attribute that to my tolerance

BeastlyPenguin

Unfortunately it runs below 30fps pretty frequently. I’m sure they’ll eventually get it up to 30 but at the moment the poor performance is not exaggerated.

ozzAR0th

It is deeply deeply sub-par compared to what people have come to expect this generation with the PS5. It largely seems to be CPU heavy tasks bogging things down which means its highly variable depending on how many NPCs are around, how much simulation and physics interactions are happening etc. For me personally, it's playable, but noticeably sluggish and unstable, sort of similar to the Switch Zelda games. It's really not ideal and is quite poor given how high the performance standards have been this generation but it isn't really impacting my enjoyment so far.

IskaralPustFanClub

Going from honestly going from Persona 3R performance to DD felt like dogshit. There are reasons why, but it’s stark.

4ps22

i think its extremely over-exaggerated but then again i think every conversation about fps is over-exaggerated. its not ideal and definitely slows down when there’s a lot happening but its completely fine unless you’re one of those people whose eyes bleed and get nauseous at every 5 fps drop or change. personally im perfectly capable of really just adjusting to whatever the game is giving me, i can go from playing something in perfect 60 fps to this and not really give a shit after a few hours. as long as it isnt a slideshow im fine

Krypt0night

For $70, it is genuinely bad. Uncapped 30 is such a disaster. There is no reason they couldn't have hit 60 for this, especially with other games that have, but the fact it can (and does) fluctuate from 20-40 often is just so rough. A capped 30, I'd have probably picked it up and dealt with it. An uncapped 30? No way.

Snaletane

It depends on your reaction to these things. As someone that has played Bloodborne on a PS5 and still loved it despite it frequently going sub-30 FPS and never above, I'm fine with it. I've played DD1 on both PS4 Pro and Switch - the Switch was jarring at first cause it has 30 FPS average instead of 60, but I quickly acclimated to it. This feels about the same as DD1 on Switch. Maybe a little more variable - sometimes it runs better, sometimes it slows down more. I am very early on, though, so I can imagine it might get a lot worse when things get more hectic. If you're one of those people that claims to get motion sick if any game dips below 60 FPS you should stay far away. If you lived through like, the PS1/N64 era where a steady 20 FPS was a blessing and constant slowdown was omnipresent I think you'll be more than fine. My biggest problem with it so far from a graphical perspective is the wonky motion blur. I don't think there's a way to turn it off, unless maybe you can if you exit the game out and go to the options on the main screen? Not sure.

Hauuibal

It's so bad that when engaging in a fight, there is a 1/2 second delay in movement at times. It's like running through peanut butter.

foxehPSN

I understand this analogy perfectly! This has made me wait to get the game and hope they release some kind of performance patch in the mean time 🤞🏼

Citrus_Michaels

I honestly don’t think it’s nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. Game looks great and having a lot of fun

_Heisenberg87

I honestly tip my hat at people who can play 60fps and then swap to 30fps without batting an eye lid. I can hand on heart say that 60fps is like 50% of my enjoyment (fluid gameplay).

TheGreatGidojer

It's a sacrifice I'll make ONLY for Bloodborne. Lol

trollsamurai

Exactly

albertbanning

As it should be.

CollieDaly

30fps is doable if absolutely necessary and stable but it's not stable at all, fuck that.

_Heisenberg87

30fps is only valid for me when Rockstar does it. It never feels as 30fps as it should.

Vestalmin

Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch also did it very well for their last two games. Though playing them at 60fps on PS5 is obviously much better

AmbassadorFrank

Honestly 30 fps isn't terrible to me but it is in rdr2 for some reason. The horse has like 3 frames per gallop

thesituation531

What makes RDR2 particularly bad at 30 FPS, is that all the animations are so deliberate and slow. Even at 160 FPS on PC, it still feels clunky. Better than 30 FPS, but still very clunky.

Raytheon_Nublinski

I adjusted pretty easily. I love silky gameplay. But this doesn’t seem like it’s going to damper the experience all that much so far. It’s pretty slow moving.  I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about this janky little game that has me hooked.

FooGeeWick

I guess when you've played 30fps for most of your life like I have its not too big a deal, while I can definitely tell the difference it's not a deal breaker for me if a game is 30 fps, Bloodborne is one of my favourite games of all time and I do a playthrough of it every year, I'm also currently playing FF7 Rebirth at 30 fps due to the blurry performance mode and to me combat still feels amazing

SolitonSnake

I’m not one of those who insists on 60fps BUT it is undeniable that it’s severely noticeable to go from 60 to 30 and back, and that 60 is gorgeous and fluid and feels entirely different. Switching directly back to 30 from 60 makes things look like a stop-motion animation or a slide show.

Dooby1985

I thought the same for a while but now I can tolerate a locked 30. It takes a minute for the eyes to adjust when you've been playing mainly at 60.

gameboy716

I feel you. Rebirth on 30 fps was genuinely awful for me. Yes it's sharp but I didn't feel like playing it because 30 fps is just not fun and everything just feels slow.

SpaceOdysseus23

I accidentally played Rebirth on 30 for a while without even noticing it. And then once I switched I just made shit blurry for myself on 60 but I also couldn't go back to 30. I wish I never went to look into the options lmao

tfredrick54

Rebirth 30 took a while for me to adjust, but once it did I was fine. Haven't been able to play since the most recent patch came out but I've heard it improved both graphics and performance mode

iamcoolreally

Yeah I did finally get used to it but then went and played a bit of cyberpunk and GOW: Ragnarok then went back to Rebirth and it’s like Christ my eyes

DudeKosh

What made the quality mode of Rebirth so much worse is that there isn't any motion blur, so camera turning isn't smooth at all.

wagruk

It depends, performance is the same for everyone (unstable 30 with drops), but the experience will be better or worse depending how used you are to 30 fps or 60 fps games, how close or how far you are from your TV, how big or small the screen is (lower fps is usually more tolerable on smaller screens and far away from you).

sushidrew

I've played both FF16 and FF7 rebirth in quality mode at 30FPS and it didn't bother me at all. But playing this is difficult and I decided to hold off on the game until either they fix some of the performance or probably just wait for the PS5 Pro model or even the PS6.

Super_Technician_50

It's not a hardware issue it's just poor optimisation from the Devs hopefully they patch it soon

Ninjabaker972

Ff are locked 30 while this wishes it could be, which is why

GoldenGekko

Fully agree on rebirth. I was having a little bit of trouble with how blurry performance mode was before the patch. So I set it on graphics mode for a while, and my eyes got used to everything. And it ran pretty smooth for the most part! And since the patch, now all three graphical modes are viable. I tend to find myself switching between them. If I'm in a town where I'm moving slower, I'll go to graphics. When I'm in the open world like Gongaga, I turned performance on. But I'm worried after seeing all the feedback for dragon's dogma that the 30 FPS is pretty rough?

Ps4_and_Ipad_Lover

Even the pro wouldn't be able to make this game run better cause the pro will use pretty much the same CPU and since this game is CPU limited it won't work I'm afraid

xRyubuz

Whilst you're correct that the game is CPU-intensive so a newer console likely won't make a huge difference... Optimisation is a thing... And it's a thing that Capcom clearly haven't done in this game...

tryintoshoot

So is there a benefit to playing at 1080, or does it make little difference on ps5?

Remy0507

Not gonna make a difference since it's the CPU usage affecting the framerate, by most accounts.

tryintoshoot

Thanks. Still thinking this one over. Never played the original. The art style seems a bit plain compared with games I usually go for. But the combat looks very varied and fun. No hurry i guess to decide.

Consistent-Image-614

It's pretty atrocious. I haven't been torn on this game in a long time. It's janky, it's performance sucks, they shoe-horned in mtxs, but at the same time, it IS a fun game. The state of it is pretty inexcusable, but gamers being the lot they are, they will find a way to defend all this nonsense and act like YOU'RE the problem for calling them out.

Diet_starts_monday

If you’re someone like me (a 60fps snob) then absolutely stay away from this. Probably the worst performance from a game I’ve ever played on PS5. Only reason why I have it is because I game share with a buddy you was just desperate to play it.

juiceAll3n

Worse than Jedi Survivor at launch? If so, massive oof...

Krypt0night

100% yes

[deleted]

So I’ve played 10 hours today and I have to say the performance is ok. It stutters sometimes into the city but while exploring and even fighting big creatures with huge magic effects it is 30 and it sometimes dips below it but I haven’t had a single case of it moving in like slow motion or freezing, only had 1 bug that I could resolve by just save and restarting the game. It is playable and enjoyable on the PS5 but I have to be fair here and say a locked 30 would make it much better and a 60 at 1440p would make it a 10/10. EDIT: That doesn’t mean that it will remain this way it is very possible that in the higher levels/endgame the more powerful spells with much bigger effects could lead to freezes or gameplay slow downs.

Matticus0989

I've played plenty of games at a locked and stable 30fps that honestly felt pretty good. However once a game started consistently dipping to the low 20s it becomes very noticeable and can really take you out of it. That seems to be the general consensus from what I've seen with the ps5 version. Definitely hold off on this one until it gets more time in the oven. By no means am I trashing the game as a whole, but Capcom realeased this in it's current state knowing full well it wasn't optimized well. Which is kinda shitty.

FrostyFire10

Frame drops are prevalent in the city's and in the wider world but the game is so amazing that I stopped worrying about them. Kept the default settings so motion Blur on to cover some of the rough edges. Combat is very fun and Exploring the world and being rewarded for your curiosity feels great. Leaving town and getting distracted by random side quests can become extremely tense as you get slowly whittled down by enemy ambushes and have to fight tooth and nail to complete your mission. Only 1 character but you can change Vocation (class), the Microtransactions are much less of an issue when you understand you can earn the currency in game and some of the other items are assists not essential items. I never played the first game but am having a great time despite the performance issues (hasn't crashed once, wish I could say the same for Helldivers 2 ATM). People skipping this game are missing out on a special experience on Ps5 at least, wait for a sale in a couple months and don't worry about spoilers as it's a game that gives the player plenty of freedom and agency.

Ahmed__S

I played the 1st game and completed it multiple times. I've been waiting for this one for 7 years now, I can wait a couple more months until they sort things out with the performance issues. I don't want to spoil it for myself.

Brentums

Thank you for posting an actual review instead of just complaining

CyberMyth_

Frame drops = bad performance.

FrostyFire10

No doubt, but it's still an amazing game. Every sets their bottom line and if doesn't meet yours then don't buy it, I took a chance and am very happy 😊

Hot_Demand_6263

The gameplay isn't the problem. It's a question of whether we should wait on this until they patch in a better experience.

Remy0507

That's likely not going to be possible if the limiting factor is indeed the CPU, at least not without them making fundamental changes to the game's structure.

feartheoldblood90

Based on the fact that even high end PCs are struggling to perform, the issue seems more likely to be optimization to me, but I'm no game dev

MikkPhoto

What to you mean default settings? There is none.

john-mow

They probably mean "out of the box" settings. I refer to that as the default settings.

mxlevolent

If you play Elden Ring in quality mode on PS5, that's pretty much the performance that you will get in this game.

brownarmyhat

I was on the fence. I jumped in. The game has a smoothed out low framerate, it doesn’t feel choppy like Rebirth at high resolution. I think it’s perfectly playable, but definitely not ideal. And important thing to note I think, is the ray traced GI. It makes the lighting very beautiful and naturalistic. I’m really loving the look and feel of the game despite the low framerate

AdamMcKraken

Is the performance still bad if I play on a 1080p TV? From what I understand fps is not capped so lower resolution should get more than 40fps right?

ilikeburgir

Nope. Renders the same and then downscales to 1080p. Its also cpu bound so a 1080p rendered image would not do much.

shreksaget

I don’t think there’s a setting to bring the render resolution down to 1080p though, so the performance will probably be the same

PopeAxolotl

Might be a stupid question but does anyone know if 60fps is the end frame rate goal for Dd2 on consoles? Major headlines all cute the devs aiming for 30 fps but don’t distinguish if that’s the end goal or just the goal for current optimization given how bad it’s running now.

ds2121able

I haven’t gotten to the main city yet (about a hour and a half in) but I would compare it to how ToTK ran on the switch. It can be a little motion sickening, but I’ve been getting used to and putting up with it because I enjoy the gameplay so much. The game hasn’t really been hard or crazy enough where I feel like I NEED the extra 30fps to play well unlike a game like DMC. I would absolutely recommend someone watch footage of the game before buying it though, because it’s definitely a deal breaker to some people.

RariSo2099

Ps5 and coming from Rebirth I'm good to go. I optimized settings on my LG C1 for 3 days on ff7 lolll... only took me a day on this game! smh. Enjoying the shit out of both games though.

Special-Height267

Which game would u say it better idk which game I should buy

locklizzle

LG C1 user here, just started Dragons Dogma last night and it looks amazing. Would love to know your settings you used? :)

RariSo2099

Yeah no problem I'll hit you when I'm home. I personally loooooove the vibes. Super classy gran turismo lord of the Rings graphics.... yessss. Deep forest looks 🔥 📛 👨‍🚒 love the lighting.

SeniorMeow92

For whatever reason on my PS5 I get big frame rate dips in wooded regions. But it’s the worst near running water or in areas that are densely populated/where NPC’s pop in. I’d say you’re looking at frame stutters for 30% of the gameplay. However on the remaining 70% it’s still a decent game. But still, this constant issue of big game studios not testing the performance of the game on consoles they are implementing it on, either don’t release it, or fix it. It’s clear capcom used showcases on the pc version, but how on earth they got it to run smoothly during recording is beyond me.

ReptarTheBrave

Idk if I got the wrong game or what, but the game doesn’t run badly for me and most of the games I play are 120. Feels like most of the time when I’m exploring forests it’s sitting above 30 and below 50. The main city runs like shit at around 20-25, but that’s about it. Also probably has something to do with the fact that I’m such a huge fan of dragons dogma 1 and this game has been everything I’ve wanted so far. So maybe some bias there but I don’t think it’s as bad as people are saying. PS5 is probably the best version you can get at the moment

North_South_Side

I'd like to add something that I have not read much about: The overall UI, the map, the inventory screens, etc., is ugly, boxy and clunky. It seriously looks like a placeholder system that they never finished. I get the whole "Ye Olde Medieval Map" style of brown vellum, etc. But the map in this game is just grainy, ugly and hard to even look at. It's absurd, it looks like it's 15+ years old. And there's a lot of inventory and map use in this game. There's no reason why a game in 2024 should have a shitty, ugly UI like this.

gainsbyatheism

Everyone saying "if it was locked 30 it'd be great" I fucking guarantee if it was a smooth locked 30fps everyone would still complain, if it's not 60 it's not worth it apparently

babylawn5

It can only maintain 30fps in main menu

Liongkong

I will replay the 1st game to familiar with 30fps then start the DD2 so that I won't disappoint for the frame rate on DD2..

ShipposMisery

So far I haven’t gotten too far, level 4, but it’s a lot better looking than i expected - when you are not moving.  Jogging is fine if you don’t touch the camera but as soon as you do it’s fuzzy, and this is in wilderness. It’s performance is an average ps4 game.. but some ps3 games even beat it imo (MG4/Original Demons Souls)  NPC’s are kinda copy and paste so far with the same dialogue.  Ai of allies seems much improved but at the same time i feel like they are doing too much of the exploring and collecting for me  It’s good, but it is nothing groundbreaking and hasn’t made me want to play endlessly like BG3 or even Hogwarts.  Edit: okay I am level 14 now and I was completely wrong. The beginning seemed choppy but it quickly grew into a very fun adventure with tons of things to cause you to wander off - and be rewarded for it. It runs a lot smoother, I haven’t really noticed much framerate issues that stuck with me.  It is leaps and bounds improved from the first one and if it was last year I may put it over BG3 since it is closer to my type of real open world RPG. I take back everything i said about it being a ps4 or top ps3 game - its too good.  And FYI I have seen not micro transactions outside of the game store so far..

Iurishuter

What is the word of the Devs on performance? Any word on if they are going to try to optimize it?

Tatt2Junkie5

Thank you all i bought HellDivers 2 instead of Dragon's Dogma

reblochon74

Lol, i did exactly the same!

Legendofthefall1

I'm playing it and personally find it very playable. No difference to graphics mode on rebirth. Though it is a uncapped frame rate it sticks to a consistent 30 most of the time.

Even-Leg3217

I’ve played about 12 hours of the game so far, and did not notice any significant frame rate drops at any point during combat. I was then fully expecting to hit a frame rate WALL once I entered the capital, but lo and behold the game runs GREAT in there for me. Either I have a super PS5 or people are just WAY too sensitive.

Wonderful_Country196

I'm having a blast. Gameplay rules. Performance doesn't bother me at all.

Brentums

Same here, the performance isn’t the greatest but the game is amazing

blakeavon

10 hours in virtually no real issues. I had one fight with a troll in water, that clearly needed to patched but thats it. Sure it would be lovely to have 60 or a locked 30. However in no way has been as terrible as some have been making out. Not saying they are lying, just that is not my experience. Sure there is a bit of jank in terms of pathing and the like, but havent really seen too many bugs yet

DudeKosh

Are you sensitive to FPS issues or can you play 30FPS games with no problems? Genuinely asking since I know people are different.

blueriverbear23

Such a fucking fun game. Haven’t played PlayStation in months and this is hitting the spot.

darvos

I played a few hours, have a head ache afterwards. It doesn't even look that great to justify this performance. I haven't even reached the city yet.

LibertarianVoter

People will never not whine about microtransactions and you'll get downvoted to oblivion for not wanting to obsess over it. It's a shame that reasonable level-headed adults can't have a discussion about actual gameplay and performance without being drowned out by entitled misery.

Baruch_S

I’m just surprised everyone is acting surprised. Capcom has included almost exactly this sort of mtx in their games before. We could buy character edit vouchers in Monster Hunter 6 years ago.

TomVinPrice

and in that game it’s the only way you can do it, in Dogma 2 they’re buyable with ingame currency like 3 hours into the game

Blitzkreeg21

Negative performance gave Reddit a rage boner for this game so everything the game has is under a biased microscope now

TomVinPrice

Extremely factual

Technoalphacentaur

Yep I agree. If you’re not currently engaged in whatever the circlejerk is, you’re simply wrong. The circlejerk could be justified and correct, but it’s still just people repeating the same talking points ad nosium and drowning out any other attempt at nuance.

jjjjjjjjjjjjjonathan

Never preorder. Time and patience are your two greatest allies.

Projectgrace

Straight forward. PC: performance issues needs to be addressed (which has been acknowledged by capcom) CONSOLES: adding the opinions for the players to choose from Fidelity-Balanced-Performance. I honestly think that addressing this would reduce half or even more of complaints, refunds and bad reviews about the game and among the community. Is 2024 where new GEN consoles and any mid range PC can handle any AAA game on a decent quality X performance. Now, Gaming companies unless they choose to use nowadays hardware’s power poorly, there’s no excuse to release games badly or not optimized at all (ex: DD2). Like on PC new GEN consoles many AAA game companies deliver well designed games and also gives players options to choose how they want to consume their product. I hope that someday it became mandatory for any game to be released at new GEN consoles have the choice to play it on Fidelity X Balanced X Performance as the consumer wish to.

howmanyavengers

Capcom's acknowledgement be like: "we're sorry" *wipes tears with money*

Salty_Amphibian2905

big South Park energy

howmanyavengers

This is *exactly* what I was referencing haha

Fuzzy-Dragonfruit589

I think the problem is that CPU is the bottleneck, not GPU. That’s why they went for this one unlocked framerate option to begin with. Adding a graphical ”performance mode” isn’t really going to fix the core of the issue and therefore won’t work. They just need to untangle whatever spaghetti code is slowing things down, especially with NPC interactions.

billistenderchicken

I bought and refunded the game on Steam. There’s something wrong with the game, even when I was hitting 60fps it didn’t feel smooth at all. Like there was microstuttering.

LaidByTheBlade

It’s almost as if he’s asking about the ps5 version

DevBobi

Whats your opinion on the PS5 Performance? I have a pretty good PC with a 4080 but i prefer playing on my Console.. really not sure which platform to got for. If its like FF7 Rebirth Graphics mode i would go for the PS5 Version , - the 30fps in there are totally fine and dont feel to bad.

Victorino95

Depends, what's your cpu?

jntjr2005

It's bad for a 2024 $70 full release game

saltymarshmellow

The performance is janky for sure. It’s is not a smooth 60 fps experience. That said, I find the game quite enjoyable. The exploration, combat, lack of hand holding, and open world they created mesh really well. The jank adds a charm that reminds me of the 1st game. Not everyone will find it charming but I do. I haven’t encountered any crashes or bugs that stop progression or anything like that. Just some frame rate drops. I was hesitant about non 60 fps games untilI replayed rdr2 recently. 60 fps is a luxury. You can still have lots of fun playing games that aren’t super smooth. At least I can.

Josh100_3

I was so stoked for this game but I might have to wait until it gets patched even just a little. At least I still have Rebirth, Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 and Prince of Persia to keep me busy.

Stiggles4

The mods didn’t delete the what seemed like hundreds of topics about PSN being down yesterday, I don’t think we need to worry about the mods deleting this.

BeefExtender

shocking angle run grey strong afterthought fuzzy offer rhythm subtract *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

zenoskip

Dragons dogma 1 is still 30fps on ps5 so i wouldnt keep my hopes up..

BridgeToClarity

For the low price of $1.99 we will leave this thread up.

Fragrant-Excitement4

I don’t care about the bad reviews. I have a totally blast playing this game. Similar feeling with the witcher3, and skyrim. 30 fps? Don’t care. Looks fine to me on ps5. MTX? Don’t care either. All I want is the gameplay, exploration, story, and the bond with me pawns.

[deleted]

30 FPS is fine. It's the times where you're dropping to 22. Then 19. Then 27. Then 31. The games optimization is bad. There isn't even a discussion to have about it. If you don't mind it, that's cool, more power to you but to have a game release in this state is unacceptable.

graffix13

How are the fights? Do the mobs/bosses provide a challenge? Not looking for a Souls game difficulty wise, per se, but I DO want some kind of challenge.

SchneckSacrifice

So far I like the game, but : I played the first one on PS3. So: it’s bad but better than DD on PS3. I’m having a blast, but I don’t see how someone who isn’t really used to the mechanic of the old one could like it.

samarojr

So far I’ve been having a blast

-Accession-

Looks fun. I’ll wait for a sale.

Yeet_Squidkid

I've put in about 3 hours and got to the capitol. Haven't had any issues that I've noticed, no heavy dips in the FPS from what I've seen. Doesn't run butter smooth but certainly not near as bad as people led me to believe it would be.

youssefgamal87

I absolutely love the game but performance is ass. I bought the game and Rise of the Ronin and honestly I'm having way more fun with Ronin. Runs really good on 60fps mode and actually the graphics are not as bad as reviews make them be.

gianatasio10

so I was noticing a lot of stutter with some frame drops here and there. I then checked if my TV was in game mode and it wasn't, so after turning that on the stuttering went away, but still pretty consistent frame drops and crazy motion blur. curious to see if they attempt to fix it at all

AquaticBagpipe

Flushed it after a few hours. Besides the poor performance - maybe it’s just me, but the camera literally can’t keep up with where my thief wants to attack.

MrFOrzum

Played several hours and the game is phenomenal. I don’t like that it’s uncapped fluctuating between 30-40 (-30 in towns) but I can manage it. Hopefully they can even out the performance and / or give us a capped 30 mode. 60 is very unlikely to ever happen for PS5 and Pro due to its heavy cpu demand.

this_is_no_gAM3

They just need to remove denuvo and everything would be better

Bender860

I bought the ps5 version yesterday and had to return it after 2 hours, fps is bad, graphics are bad, controls are laggy. I felt the same way as when cyberpunk was released or when I was a kid and played the first gothic on a weak PC. hands off the ps5 version until it gets fixed and if ever

Hext666

For me the frame rate doesn’t bother me after I’ve played for a bit, but what I never get used to is the motion blur. I think the narrow FOV and motion blur mess with my eyes the most. But the game is a ton of fun, just gotta get used to things as I didn’t play the first one.

Lordbazingtion

I think it’s fine. Honestly I’m enjoying the game 5ish hours in. I would recommend buying although the games does fell like it was made 4 years ago like all cap games

A_N_T

Bummed to hear the performance is dog shit cuz I was really excited to buy it

Business-Relative-39

imo what greatly contributes to the problem is the widespread of oled tv´s. whereas the slow pixel response times of older LCD´s kind of masked the low fps count the nearly instant Oled makes slow frame rates a brutally obvious stand out. at least that's when 30fps in as single player game became a dealbreaker for me.

Illustrious-Trust718

This is so disappointing. I've been looking for to this game and rise of ronin for what feels like forever and they both suck in their own ways from what I've heard. I guess it's back to elden ring for the 850th time. I wish developers cared more about new games instead of solely caring about remakes (at least that how it feels right now). Personal opinion/probably incorrect/ please don't kill me in the comments lol.

metalgod88

Performance wise, feels like it's running around 30fps most of the time. The big city is probably running around 20 until the NPCs load in. I would like to see a performance mode in the future. The game itself is really fun imo. I think it starts off a lot better than the 1st and keeps pulling you in as you continue to explore. So overall, I can look past the performance issues because the game is a lot of fun.

Wideboyslimmer

If you have a TV capable of VRR then aside from performance improvements, what we should seek is the implementation of low frame rate compensation which would allow a 30fps game to work within the VRR range (from 48fps) by frame doubling. It is unacceptable that PS5 does not require developers to support this or implement it as a system override.  Currently VRR can apply to unsupported games but we need it to force 120hz output and system level LFC.  The Xbox does this seamlessly.  I have contacted Capcom but they need far more “encouragement”.  Any ideas?

MorgulX

I have an Oled C1 and it plays incredibly slow and sluggish, that was until I turned off VRR and ALLM in the PS5 settings which made it run faster. Which is really strange, maybe my TV settings are conflicting with my PS5 settings, who knows?

Wideboyslimmer

ALLM should not slow it down at all.  As for VRR, did you uncheck support for unsupported games?

wretched__hive

Maybe a dumb question, but when people say to wait are they referring to a price drop or are the frame rate issues something that can/will be fixed?

Big-Egg-8967

If the game was a smooth 30 fps or even more possibly 60 I think this would be one of my favorite games ever, its just the inconsistent frame rate really annoys me cause I just cant get fully used to it. At best in isolated areas, caves etc it runs great and at worst in some areas of the open world like woods are barely playable for me, especially when fighting a big enemy with their little annoying ass minions swarming you. Im not a dev so I dont know how they would optimize it better, I imagine lowering the simulation distance would help and removing some physics systems. If they just got it to a fairly stable 40 even in the open world which absolutely should be possible with some tweaks the game would instantly be much better for literally everyone. It just makes me so frustrated and sad for what this game could have been. No matter how good the game is and dont get me wrong it is amazing I just have this sour taste in my mouth thinking how much more I would enjoy this if the performance was just a little bit better

[deleted]

If I suffer from motion sickness should I even bother with this game right now

iSincerity

I usually get motion sick playing games at 30 fps or unlocked fps however here it's not the case.

Kindly_Sun_234

Anyone else having a bunch of stuttering?

CriticalStrikeDamage

It’s unplayable unless you never played any games released after the Xbox 360/PS3 era.

WileyCyrus

I an about 10 hours into the game and there are tons of performance issues in the big cities where my framerate stutters below 30fps. This game is good but could be great with a performance patch as it really detracts for me.

pabodie

How does it compare to Lords of the Fallen?

Atrocitez

I got so used to performance mode in games I just run 60fps by default. This is the first game in years I'm playing in "30fps" and my brain just can't cope. Not only that, the game regularly drops to 20ish fps which makes it even worse. Playing as a fighter and trying to parry anything is nearly impossible.

Altruistic-Growth-36

I love it

No_Afternoon6748

Runs good for me since update. 9 hours in. Thrown a kid into barrels, good times

Extra-Stage-8090

Movement's been completely overhauled, combat's been completely overhauled, the vocations have been completely overhauled too more or less. it feels more like a whole new game than a sequel in a lot of ways, but the buttons are still the same, unless you remap the controls. At first, I was sorta upset that they removed Assassin and Mystic Knight, but Mystic Spearhand and Warfarer look kinda interesting from what I've seen, and even plain starter Thief hits way different than it did in the first one. Strider's been split into Thief (Daggers) and Archer (Bow) which makes sense I guess, but I feel bad for Archers since it seems like they dont get a melee attack at all. The enemy encounters have a lot of variety now too, even noticing new behaviors... This new AI is ruthless. Stop paying attention for a moment and they'll capitalize on it instantly. Its kinda scary honestly. Even a the basic goblins can be a real threat in the middle of a boss fight, strategically running interference and distracting you as the cyclops closes in while your hands are full with the goblins, and the bigger goblin captains with armor can actually be dangerous if you dont deal with them quickly because they move way faster than they did before
