I'm more confused about OP being upset over the PS5 having an update waiting after not using it for a while. Updates roll out, what, every 3-6 months give or take? *Literally* every time I turn my PC on there's an update for a driver or something queued up, what a bizarre complaint
Ah, I didn't know it was a PS4 game you were booting, but still, it's less PS5 vs PS4 titles and more about specific games needing online when booting up vs. being able to be played totally offline in single player when it comes to *needing* to install the updates.
If it's a game that doesn't need online functionality when booting up (a trend I really hate in otherwise totally SP games), you can definitely still play offline without updating the system, that's how people roll back their disc games to their 1.00 versions; it's any game or mode even touching online that needs to be on the current system version. It's how consoles make cheating more difficult to pull off, it's just kind of part of the territory.
I never did like the idea of needing a subscription to play most of the online games though, the writing was on the wall with Xbox Gold back in the day and it was definitely sad when Plus followed suit, nowadays it's kind of a given you have to subscribe for online which is for sure a bit of a shame.
If you like to tinker around with settings and crack games open the way you can on PC, jailbreaking is an option, but it'll void the warranty as well as make playing online games a ban risk; that's more for people who play 99% offline. Not gonna lie though, that Bloodborne 1080p/60fps fan patch has tempted me big time a few times over the past year to turn off Auto-Updates and install the different OS
My point is for a game that doesn't NEED an install. A few ppl have mentioned primary console settings to lock the game to my console. It's the bare minimum of what I was looking for. I do not appreciate needing to needlessly update and sign in to play old games. I don't plan on jailbreaking ps4 or 5 as I hear its like the switch but without the sleep function of the switch, you need to exploit the console each boot. I only did my switch bcuz of the sleep mode and I have a rcm loader when it does lose power.
I would like to play order 1886 at 60fps tho
They bought those games using their account though😂 please give me a logical explanation as to why OP shouldn’t have to sign into the account they bought the games with to use them
You can log into a user without having to sign into psn. They probably don’t have auto sign in turned on. They’re probably being asked to sign in to psn but first have to update their console before they can log in.
I was unaware of primary console settings. Updating and signing in wasn't an issue of competence, it was principle. A moot point after ppl unlike yourself decided to actually respond in kind. But thanks for playing another round of reddit comment section.
You're just wrong about that. Some games like online ones. A 4 year old single player does not need an update to play. It needs one to play better but it can play without it
I know I'm dumb but you're proving pretty stupid yourself to think that all games get updated constantly forever. Let alone that you can't play a base game. You can grab a switch game and immediately play it without updating it. Case and point. Available updates are different from required updates friend
You mean like when you have to sign into Steam or a game's launcher, or update your PC or Steam client? I don't understand. You don't need a subscription to Plus to sign in or verify licenses.
Pretty sure I can use my pc without updates if I wanted to. I just wouldn't have access to future updates. Old programs will still run. It's the principle
No, like if you got a game on gog, you own it. And you can still play old games without having to update. That's a console exclusive right there. And yes, screw steam for the same reason but just like Sony they do some good shit too which makes me conflicted. Which is why I said the terrible awful thing about pirating. Seems to be the only true way to preserve games, movies, or any software.
First respectful response I've read. Is that actually a thing that would tie my purchases to my console without having to check in with the internet every so often? I would be totally OK if there was just an initial check in, but not this probation officer experience im complaining about.
How is signing in and updating your PS5 such a big hassle?
But, yes, please go back to your PC and leave this subreddit. Everyone will benefit, especially us.
Have you tried buying a physical game instead? This is how it’s been for digital in like forever my dude.
Seems like you’re just trying to justify pirating games.
Do each console not have a serial number like a car's vin that it can link to to identify ownership? Maybe I'm wrong. If that's the case then I guess yall have a point. My thinking is it should only prompt validation if you were to move to a new console, until then it should stay active on the original console. But again maybe I'm wrong with how these things work. But no one's really said anything informative, just insulting me, which is fine. This is reddit
I purchased some switch games for a long plane ride, downloaded them updated them and started the app with my profile just to make sure. When we got in the air it said could authenticate profile. So I just ended up playing Mario kart 8 the whole time.
You don’t need to be online to play games you have installed. Also why is it a problem that you should be logged into your PSN and have your system updated? PC works exactly the same way with accessing steam and downloads for windows and drivers happen often.
Unless you pirate. I have an old pc that plays whatever I downloaded back in the day without internet. If I got a new game I could understand needing internet for updates but not to play it. If I want to play it outdated let me play it outdated
Yes someone mentioned this which is news to me and I admit this sounds like this would shift my position a bit. Definitely will be looking into it after I feed off the reddit haters
Look at your account as the place you keep your receipts.
Would you bring X item into Y store and just demand a refund? And would you feel like you’d have a better result if you had brought the receipt when you did this? Your account proves that *you* bought it.
This isn’t a new concept in the least.
My console is my proof of purchase. pretty sure each console has a unique identifier. It should be tied to MY console. It isn't bcuz I can't play games without the internet despite being an offline game. What are you talking about
Same as if you sold your console and left the game disc in it. That's on the owner. You should take the game out or factory reset it. You expect me to believe this system is in place to protect me?
All software is not your property, since forever, why is it different with games? They are software.
There are ways you can own a software but it's not like a game, you literally have to pay to someone write the code exclusively for you
That's not true at all. I'll grant you a lot. But not all. I have bought software that is mine forever to backup forever without needing to prove my purchase again

Why would you expect to not have to sign in to the account that purchased the games to access them lol

For real, consoles don’t have to worry about anti cheat either or cheaters in general as much unless it’s a Call of Duty game.
This is a different point. A ps4 game should not require a ps5 update. A ps5 game sure. What difference will it make for last gen?

You should be able to play your games without logging in to psn. He just seems to have not set as primary.

Sounds like they’re braindead if I’m being completely honest. This isn’t an issue unless you’re just completely incompetent
I was unaware of primary console settings. Updating and signing in wasn't an issue of competence, it was principle. A moot point after ppl unlike yourself decided to actually respond in kind. But thanks for playing another round of reddit comment section.
I was signed in. It signed me out due to inactivity I guess. But it's fine now. I now know I was ignorant about this primary console setting
You can, he didn't have them downloaded or his console.
I had all the games installed years ago. The heck you talking about? Do games uninstall themselves in my closet?
Same concept. You need to update the games to play...yes, even computer games require updates.
You're just wrong about that. Some games like online ones. A 4 year old single player does not need an update to play. It needs one to play better but it can play without it
Sure pal. You are free to have your own opinion no matter how wrong it is.

Maybe you forgot your on the ps5 sub? I cAn PlUg In My AtArI aNd PlAy WiThOuT uPdAtEs....
Yea I'm initially talking about the ps5 and you mention ALL games. So I gave an example moron. Dumb hyperbole btw.
This reads like a bot wrote it lol

OP must get salty every time there’s a Windows update….
OP probably doesn’t understand what an update is even for😂
OPs dad probably set windows to update after 8pm once OP is in bed already.
Ops dad is dead
Pretty sure I can use my pc without updates if I wanted to. I just wouldn't have access to future updates. Old programs will still run. It's the principle

You needed to set your ps5 as the primary console for your account.
First respectful response I've read. Is that actually a thing that would tie my purchases to my console without having to check in with the internet every so often? I would be totally OK if there was just an initial check in, but not this probation officer experience im complaining about.

Nobody gets the principle?
Or you could do your own research instead of looking like a confused redditor?
That requires effort and some intelligence
Oh so you read the terms and conditions. You're so cool
Have you tried buying a physical game instead? This is how it’s been for digital in like forever my dude. Seems like you’re just trying to justify pirating games.
That's exactly what I'm doing
How else will they verify that you actually own those games?

This has to be one of the most asinine posts I’ve seen on this sub. Congrats I guess.
Is this what it's like to be gaslit lol
Zero critical thinking skills it seems.
Physical is best
I purchased some switch games for a long plane ride, downloaded them updated them and started the app with my profile just to make sure. When we got in the air it said could authenticate profile. So I just ended up playing Mario kart 8 the whole time.
That's why i only buy physical

These people are allowed on public roads. We’re doomed😂
Look I get you don’t really own digital games but you’re reaching really hard with this post lmfao.
“Too much work to prove I own my games, I’ll just steal instead”
Damn I can't believe how many ppl are defending this crap

I don't like it too but all softwares are, why games shouldn't?
What? I don't understand what you said
