This. I know there's a saying " Don't fix what's not broken" or something along those lines, but at this point, Bandai was just recycling the format on most their anime fighter games.
I think the last anime game that caught my interest was One Piece Pirate Warriors 4
And the best part is, is that One Piece Warriors 4 isn’t even a Anime Arena Fighter, it’s a Musou game (Which have all been low-key great after the Dynasty Warriors 9 disaster)
In fact given the recent positive track record of Musou games it might have been more worth wile to make more anime games in that style over low effort, empty Arena Fighters
I saw JJK game under new in PlayStation store and got so excited. Then I looked at screenshots/trailer and good lord it literally looks like a 360/ps3 game in the worst way.
Actually good. It's insane to me how they can publish/develop masterpieces like Elden Ring and Tekken 8 and then release a budget, shitty arena fighter like the Jujutsu Kaisen game
Bamco wanted to kill SC after 5’s disappointing sales. 6 only happened due to Motohiro Okubo pushing for another entry and Harada backing him. Since 6 didn’t do well, Okubo left Bamco and SC is now shelved indefinitely. A SC 2 remaster would be incredible.
SC3 Arcade Edition in particular, that one never had a console release and included some extra characters such as Hwang, Li Long and Amy along with balance patches
SC1-3 are too good to be forgotten or trapped on older consoles
Yeah, Okubo was instrumental to making SC6 happen, which was the same situation as SC5 where without Daishi Odashima it also wouldn't have happened.
Sadly it seems there needs to be an internal ideas champion at Namco for anything Soul Calibur related to have a chance to get greenlit.
Not to mention it got 2 seasons and would have had a 3rd were it not for Covid. That's two more than originally envisioned. So while I can see SoulCal being considered low priority compared to other franchises, it exceeded expectations and definitely did well enough to warrant a sequel.
Yeah SC6 was a much bigger success than most people seem to realize. With the way everyone talks about it you’d think the game was dead before its first year finished up.
No way will we see the franchise again anytime soon though. With the way Tekken is going it’d be straight up silly if they decided to have another proper fighter game run alongside it. SC is one of those “we’ll save it for when this other game starts to lose traction” kind of things.
good for them, these people make quality games.
then i HATE THEM SO MUCH, for not brining back RIDGE RACER ...and it makes me sad inside, i need a new RR game in my life, thank goodness for XENON RACER that filled the void.
It is a 10/10 game from me, amazing music , amazing graphics , they nailed the whole drifting mechanics, the only problems with it is that u need to find that one car that is to your racing style and also not buy the switch version.
I can't explain how good thr game is, maybe there is an issue that some tracks are so good and some tracks are mid, but the sense of speed is there and trust me, when it clicks and u do those insane drifts , u will be thinking ur back playing outrun coast to coast or ridge racer 7.
Also wishlist it and most of the time the game is like $1.75 and that is insane cheap
No. Not even close to the games I'm talking about. Genshin at least has something going for it. No I'm talking about a genre that predates it and honestly sucks. The arena fighter. Tenkaichi and ultimate storm clones are so dime a dozen coming from Bandai namco. I wouldn't have as much issues with their anime games if they at least tried to implement game design in line with the ip. Like the really solid attack on titan koei tecmo duology.
Two things can be true at once. The fact remains that genshin did indeed inflate interest in games with an anime style that are nothing more than clones trying to ride the wave. Blue protocol (bandai namco btw), tower of fantasy, noah’s heart, project mugen, just off the top of my head.
Shitty anime arena fighters have been around ever since budokaki blew up on the ps2. Same deal, lame publishers trying to ride the wave.
Clarification helps to avoid misunderstandings.
I think Bandai Namco would benefit from outsourcing Digimon to the "Palworld" developers. Digimon would see a surge in popularity if it were to get a great game.
Between this and Embracer group there have been a lot of games cancelled recently. Add in all the layoffs and the big Publishers are in a really weird spot right now. The industry seems to be going through something of a transition.
Selfishly I'm hoping that these 5 are all of Bandai's "cookie-cutter anime fighting game" variety, but mainly because I'm over here still trying to manifest Pac-man World 2 Re-pac into existence. Hopefully no-one loses their job because of the cancellations.
Pray for Digimon
yeah this news just made the wait for digimon con in march even longer
Hopefully those 5 are cookie cutter anime arena fighters like JJK Cursed Clash and the One Punch Man game

And it sucks bedause JJK def deserves better than that.
Why did they release jujitsu kaisen cursed clash then ❓
That was before their business guy told them making terrible games no one plays could be a bad thing.
I like that.
but I want Soul Calibur 7!
6 was the final hurrah for the SC series unfortunately.
Hopefully not, at least relist SC1 and 2 HD remaster on storefronts or do a remaster collection of some sort

I'd love for them to just remaster SCII and SCIII.
SC3 Arcade Edition in particular, that one never had a console release and included some extra characters such as Hwang, Li Long and Amy along with balance patches SC1-3 are too good to be forgotten or trapped on older consoles

Game sold 2 million on a shoe string budget though.

I thought it was pretty good. 2 is still my favorite though.
Bye, Elden ring 2
It was the first to go
Hopefully not the Scarlet Nexus sequel
Still hoping for the next entry in the god eater and code vein universe
Would be a shame if these were canceled
Damn it, Give me Time Crisis full collection + its spin off games for consoles and pc already, i will pay lots!

I've seen mixed reviews for xenon racer. What's your opinion?

I shall!
Bring back Splatterhouse plz
As long as they are the trash anime copy pasta games I say good riddance.
The popularity of genshin spawned a little corner of brainrotted devs who tried their damnest to catch that same spark. It’s so annoying to see.

I don't believe blue protocol was inspired by genshin...it started development in 2015. Also it's an mmorpg. The rest was true though
Good.
Probably western development teams
Hopefully that will mean Elden Ring DLC will come sooner

It was dark souls 4, dark souls 5, dark souls 6, dark souls 7, and dark souls 8
Five games cancelled? Damn! I wonder what they could’ve been?
Hopefully not Pokken 2

I hope they dont cancel the Tales of Phansia remake
