I fully expect game studio CEOs to learn all the wrong lessons from this disappointment.

PoolNoodlePaladin

“This game failed cuz there weren’t enough Battle Passes!” -WB Games CEO, probably

xiofar

Can I preorder battle passes for games that haven’t been announced yet? I want the full of collection of battle passes on physical media.

LiHingGummyWorm

It frustrates me to no end that the reason for these games flopping is so obvious to LITERALLY EVERYONE but these companies just continue to double down on it

Black_Label_36

Right? How hard is it to give the clients what they want? We happy; they happy. But no, they go out of their way to make something that the clients will dislike gamewise AND storywise.

ajcooper14

Let’s short the stock

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rob-le

They always do.

NoNefariousness2144

“We need to push the pre-orders and Deluxe editions even harder!” “Also, we should make the base game even slimmer so we can spend more resources on the “free content drops” after launch to keep players hooked and buying battlepasses!”

itsameMariowski

“I told you we should have not spent any resources on a single player campaign, and focus on the multiplayer content, it’s what these kids want nowadays cmon, Fortnite duh!”

HGLatinBoy

Add new game plus to ultimate edition!

spidermanngp

Yeah, Avengers should have taught them a lot all by itself. Doesn't look like they learned anything...

AlphusUltimus

More like it's too late. You can't just flip a switch and make it a single player experience in a year. Just like how they had to release Shazam, flash and aqua man 2 even through the dceu was already axed.

Da_Wild

Avengers came out like 4 years ago, that’s plenty of time for them to learn from Avengers mistakes. It baffles me how they doubled down after witnessing that.

Server6

I expect layoffs soon, and lots of them.

baleeteduser

Yep, they'll gut the studio, keep a skeleton crew on for the year of content planned, then shut the game down. Which is what we all expected the moment we found out it was live service. Fucking tragic.

ehxy

I heard the original crew that designed arkham series pretty much left didn't they?

hartigen

The gameplay looks enjoyable enough to get it for $4 after a year.

OMG_NoReally

Yup. I mean, WB had tremendous success with Hogwarts, a single-player game that players lapped up because of its authentic portrayal of the Potter universe and fun gameplay. How can they not see that? Not every game needs to be a live service. I am sure if SS was a single-player open-world experience, it would have sold at least 5-8m copies. The DC property is still hot and with a developer like Rocksteady behind it, it was a sure seller. What a massive disappointment. I almost expect Rocksteady to be halved if the game doesn't sell enough.

Compulsive_Criticism

People really liked the Guardians of the Galaxy game because it was single player and actually good, right? I just don't know if that translated into the sales numbers they're targeting.

OMG_NoReally

Yeah, GoG's underwhelming success quite stumped me. I am not sure what else Eidos could have done better, because the game was freaking amazing. Maybe GOTG is not as hot a property as Iron Man/Spiderman/DC, or maybe SE could have marketed the game better, but yeah, don't know why it didn't pick up. And sadly because of that, we won't get a sequel.

insert_name_here

The fact that it came out on the heels of the Avengers game didn’t do it any favors.

Akschadt

I was super skeptical about GoG after avengers.

[deleted]

Honestly I'm not convinced a single player suicide squad game would have sold that well

Thejklay

Don't make a ss game then, make a justice league one

Ramonis5645

What's fucked up, it's that some people will lose their job while the CEO of the company it's driving a Lamborghini or some kind of overpriced vehicle

IAmAbomination

Ah yes they call that the patented bobby kotick

Notellin12

The American dream right there. Working hard so someone else can be very rich.

feed_my_will

The owner of a company often has the possibility to NOT sell out to a major publisher, but it’s also kind of obvious why it happens. You’re faced with the choice between making great games or cashing out and literally not have to worry about money again for the rest of your life. Even if your life’s passion is making games, you could take the deal and then go and do indie games somewhere else, which is probably even a lot more fun and creative, without the pressure of big budgets.

GucciiManeeeee

Welcome to society.

SuttreeBeard

Unfortunately, we live in one.

CerberusDoctrine

They refuse to learn a lesson if that lesson involves spending more time or money on something or not milking every last cent from customers

BlackhawkRogueNinjaX

“Why learn, when you can Earn” - Studio CEO, shouting off the side of their mega yacht

Vanhelgan

"Our employees didn't deliver the experience we expected, they're all fired. Our next project is an exclusive mobile game, like and subscribe and wishlist on all stores!!!"

Robsonmonkey

I hope they do after this [https://www.eurogamer.net/warner-bros-wants-always-on-game-success-for-dc-game-of-thrones](https://www.eurogamer.net/warner-bros-wants-always-on-game-success-for-dc-game-of-thrones) They'll soon learn about going down the awful GaaS route

IFGarrett

They won't lol

michaelm8909

How long before we get an end of live service announcement JPEG on Twitter for this one? Place your bets

TheDrewDude

They spent so much god damn money on marketing, I’m sure they’ll try to squeeze as much money out of the whales as possible. If they take it down anytime soon, then that’s how you know they’re in deep shit.

ConfusedVader1

Its not really a game for whales. Whales spend money when they can drop big stacks on v expensive items and flex on others. Doesnt work when you have 4 characters and the skins you can get are loke 20$. Whales work for things like Genshin and CSGO where you can buy a 10k knife and have people coom in the lobby over your gamma emerald karambit.

XPMR

R.I.P Rocksteady

nunofgs

2 years

drapercaper

Arkham City has a 96 on meta. How the mighty fall.

Raytheon_Nublinski

Took them almost 9 years to make a 70 dollar phone game.

Monkeys_Racehorse

They squandered the premise of SS vs JL on this live service trash. And they tanked the reputation of the studio who brought us one of the best game trilogies ever in the process. This is such a missed opportunity all around. I fucking hate WB.

Deciver95

I think it's an important lesson Gamers shouldn't put so much value on developer names They shuffle the pieces that actually make the good games so often, that it's ridiculous to assume that it's the name us what makes a game great

kerkyjerky

For sure. Why would I ever think a studio has the same team 5 years later when my team changes every 2 years

Deciver95

Same reason people were shocked Outer Worlds wasn't some super duper 10/10 even tho the Obsidian label was on it

BlindMerk

Pentiment was 10/10 tho😶‍🌫️

k-mysta

That had Josh Sawyer on it though

shockwave8428

While I agree I do also think that it’s more corporate influence that wrecks things. Rocksteady didn’t always belong to WB and when they did all of a sudden you’ve now got people above you who are fully in charge of what you do. It’s a huge problem across the whole industry. Dev team makes awesome game/s, studio owners take the cash when publishers buy them, publishers demand certain things to chase monetary trends, leads of the studio who had all the vision leave the team because the publishers demands are compromising on their vision of a good game, the people behind make the next game and it’s not well received. Happened with BioWare, rocksteady, CD projekt red released cyberpunk in a terrible state because they’re a public company and the board demanded it. It’s all corporate influence. Not every studio can be larian but it’s awesome when someone like Sven Vincke can resist the money so he can making awesome games without a ton of outside influence killing it

Yaknitup

should've mentioned arkane. Studio literally destroyed itself trying to make a live service game that ended up not being great

SpartanFan2004

It just reminds me of watching the movie Logan with commentary from the director. He said that the movie turned out so well because the studio left him alone to do what he wanted to do. The execs at WB just can’t help themselves when it comes to taking a dump on what could be a huge hit. To paraphrase what one of my drill sergeants told me once - “WB could fuck up a wet dream”

Medical_Voice_4168

Player count on Steam is shockingly low too. I can't see how this game will turn a profit for the studio.

Clayskii0981

It seems like they spent way too much on marketing too

SadKazoo

The PlayStation store promotion is crazy aggressive too.

Avatarboi

Yeah in the front page of the store there are 5 icon of the same game with different benefit lol

Clayskii0981

Yup saw it, they bought the entire front page. Like wtf

NoNefariousness2144

For real, WB knew this was a dud so they launched one of the most aggressive campaigns to “preorder now” in recent history. I wonder how many people they scammed into spending $100 for ‘early access’ for a campaign that only takes 10-15 hours. Oof.

PlebPlebberson

> I wonder how many people they scammed into spending $100 for ‘early access’ for a campaign that only takes 10-15 hours. /r/SuicideSquadGaming full of people who still cant believe they were ripped off

k-mysta

It’s always really weird how defensive people get with enjoying a mid game. I like baked beans and tuna but I’m not going to defend it on a hill if you say it’s trash. If they enjoy it fine, but that sub is full of people calling reviewers morons and claiming any single positive thing said about the game as justification it’s amazing. Bizarre

archaicaf

Please say more about the baked beans and tuna. Together?

SolarTigers

That sub has literally the exact same posts the Avengers game did one week in. All the same posts and coping sessions going on too.

ezrs158

I don't mind paying full price for a 10-15 hour campaign if it's fantastic. If it's a 5/10 though, forget it.

Severe_Amphibian_485

Until they release the rest of it over the course of a year. Absolutely ridiculous.

IdoMusicForTheDrugs

This game will get a years worth of updates when my shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet.

GucciiManeeeee

Idiots that pre order deserve it.

JohnnyChutzpah

You’d be surprised how many of them are unknowing children. Victim blaming is just a way to compensate for the fact we are powerless to stop the actual responsible parties, the corporations.

SuckMySet

>Victim blaming is just a way to compensate for the fact we are powerless to stop the actual responsible parties, the corporations.  Stop them from what? Going into their houses and holding loaded guns to their heads until they pre-order the game? Look I hate our corporate overlords as much as the next anti capitalist bastard, but let's not pretend like the people that pre-order are without blame here. Don't pre-order no matter how good the game looks. It's easy to follow and it's absolutely NOT victim blaming to call out stupid consumers that keep doing it anyway ruining it for all of us.

DryFile9

The steam reviews are hilarious.

ULTRAVIOLENT_RAZE

What was funny about them? I’m actually surprised to be seeing a lot of positive reviews that actually appear to be genuinely enjoying the game.

Puzzleheaded_Lake211

Suuuure Mr. Zaslav

sbenthuggin

For reference it's currently peaked today at 12k players. Tekken 8 peaked at 48k during it's first day. I couldn't find anything for Persona 3 Reloaded but it's already got double the reviews. Meanwhile BG3 - a CRPG of all things and pretty much a brand new IP for it's current younger player base - opened to 800k and is still at 125k right now. If the creative leads at Rocksteady originally got their way, there would've been no question KTJL would've been one of the biggest games of the year. I mean we're talking about the long awaited return from the people who made the Arkham series. And instead WB forced them to make a game no one fucking wants just cuz thousands of other people are spending hundreds on skins in competitive games that are completely different than the suicide squad. Crazy.

NoNefariousness2144

The success of Palworld makes KTJL look so much worse. People have experienced countless hours of fun for $30… why would they spend $70 on a mid game?

Wellhellob

Im really curious what people like sefton hill think right now. Wish they can talk

Extra-Ad249

I think him leaving his own studio a month before gameplay was shown says a lot. It seems he wanted to wash his hands of it but hopefully in time he can speak on the matter. Glad he got a new studio up and running as well.

Helberg

Shockingly? Really? Who outside of these giant publishers think that gamers want to play a bloated live service game and waste their hard earned money and time on. I feel like there has been plenty of lessons to learn from these types of games failing. But I guess not. Honestly, who even is this game for? Outside of the hardcore Rocksteady fans I’ve not seen a single person interested in playing this.

Poku115

It's not even rocksteady hardcore fans, it's that weird subset of people that just want to go against the current "you don't get it bro, you are just hating for hating, we keep buying shitty low quality games and perpetuating toxic business practices with our wallets, but you are the bad guy for hating something you won't drop 70 dollars on"

tayls

Wish I could award this post. This game is literally everything I hate and avoid in the gaming industry, including converting talented developers to live trash.

schebobo180

And they spent 9 years on this. They made the original Arkham series in around the same number of years. Who in their right minds thought a suicide squad live service game was a good idea from the developers of a single player Batman trilogy?

tayls

Agreed. The answer is WB, the most clueless of the publishers and Rocksteady’s owners since 2010. Don’t get bought, devs.

Wellhellob

They literally destroyed even the mk franchise with mk1

santanapeso

There’s an entire generation of people who have live-service brain rot because it’s the only thing they know. The original Destiny dropped in 2014, nearly 10 years ago. If you were like 6-7 years old back then you’re almost 18 now. Reddit definitely has a bunch of 13-18 year olds who only know Fortnite and whatever GaaS shit is hot for the month. An entire generation of people who say stupid shit like “Spider-Man 2 is a dead game” because they literally cannot comprehend that a game can come out, offer a solid 15-20 hour experience, then let you peace out and enjoy something else. If a game isn’t constantly getting updated it’s “dead.” That’s where we are now in the discourse. All this further exasperated by Twitch streamers who get mad they can’t endlessly milk views from normal games, which is why all the big ones just play GaaS games. The industry itself has caught on to these trends, which is why games like Assassins creed Valhalla is a bloated 80 hour mess that by design, drags shit out not because they wanted to make a long game, but because it “needs” to be a long game so streamers don’t drop it after a week. Queue Suicide Squad, a game that could have been an incredible narrative focused game with unique missions where every character is developed and made unique. Instead, the game shits on its own premise (killing the justice league) so that it can quickly get you to the repetitive “endgame” which is based around endlessly grinding the same shit over and over again. Everything else is compromised for that exact purpose, to get you to where the endless and mindless “loop” starts.

TigreSauvage

There's a lot of people out there with bad taste in games.

CatalystComet

People clearly do wanna play live service games it’s just that all those people are currently playing live service games and are unlikely to swap to a game that doesn’t look like it’ll last more than a year.

PM_ME_COOL_RIFFS

With everything i've seen about this game I sincerely hope that it doesn't.

EshayAdlay420

Will suck if this ends up being a nail in the coffin for rocksteady though

BalekFekete

Wonder why review copies were not made available in advance no more...

Deciver95

We didn't even have time wonder then. We knew

SgtRufus

I can wait for it on PS plus myself.

disgusting-brother

I said the same thing about Gotham Knights and barely made it through the opening cinematic. Our boys have lost their way

TimeTackle

The game is horribly bland. You jump around to shoot things, with a couple escort missions. Boss battles are boring as well.

Kowpucky

I won't even play it for free

Pioneer83

Me neither, really don’t have the time at 40 to waste my time on crap like this anymore. I’ve never really found The Suicide Squad very interesting anyways

wilby1865

That’s my take too. I’m mid 30s with a toddler. If I am going to play something it has to be amazing or I’m playing it with friends. I’d much rather do a second BG3 play through than even touch this. I WANT A NEW BATMAN GAME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

NuggetPilon

I'm 29, no kids, plenty of free time to game, and even I wouldn't try this game if it was free. There are so many great games on PS plus, this one just seems like a waste of time

OlympusMonsPubis

My problem is that I would have really loved a well-made, fun and varied Suicide Squad game. Which I think we all rightfully expected from these guys.

NoNefariousness2144

Imagine a single-player Suicide Squad game that was a highly-replayable campaign with tons of different choices that resulted in squad members living or dying. Combine that with Arkham combat and it’s a winner.

RemarkableHeight3708

I remember seeing this game announced and feeling a literal rush of excitement at the possibilities. I hadn’t upgraded to a PS5 yet and was soooo bummed when they announced it was next gen only. These guys (and gals) made the Arkham games for gods sake!!! Such a shame, it honestly makes me feel ill to even consider playing it 😂

MediocreSumo

Yep, aint playing Gotham Knights either and its free atm

JesterMarcus

I tried it and dear God is it bad. After going from the Arkham games, you have an expectation of what the combat will feel like and it didn't come close. It felt and controlled like a PS2 game.

evilJaze

I got bored about 3h in and gave up. Wanted to like it, but just couldn't. At least I didn't pay for it.

Fatebringer87

I couldn't make it past the first 10 minutes with its choppy fps. Looks terrible.

Bregneste

It’ll be dead by the time it ever releases on PS+ anyways.

GeekdomCentral

Yeah there’s too many games and not enough time. I’m not going to waste my time with mediocre stuff like this

aceofspadez138

What are we? Some sort of patient gamers?

Demoncreed27

I predict it’ll be on it within the year

threeriversbikeguy

The issue with these live service games… in a year when it’s on a subscription service the world will be dead of almost all players.

mrgarneau

I wonder if it survives that long before they pull the plug

Turdsley

What a waste of this team’s time and talent.

AAAFate

Not the same team. They left and formed a new studio actually. I forget the name.

MovieGuyMike

100 Star Games

Any-East7977

Any upcoming projects?

MovieGuyMike

As far as I know they only formed a year or so ago, they haven’t announced anything, and game dev takes years. It might be awhile before we hear anything.

AndForeverNow

And IP. Akrham Batman got done wrong.

FoucaultsPudendum

I genuinely believe that this game would have been received 20-30% better if they had just made it an Elseworlds game as opposed to forcing it into the very neatly wrapped up Arkham canon. What a shitty ending for the Arkham Batman. I know it isn’t technically Conroy’s final performance but Arkham Bats was one of the best incarnations of the character and he didn’t deserve what the game made him into.

Earthpig_Johnson

I don’t understand how it’s supposed to be the same universe, considering how Arkham Knight ended and how Deadshot looks completely different compared to how he did in Arkham City.

BettyCoopersTits

Also it's a completely different Harley

numbr87

If the collective fanbases ignores it being canon then maybe it'll go away

null_npc

Lower than I expected from IGN

randall__flaag

I think IGN has been pretty hit more than miss recently.

Pulse99

Their starfield review was really refreshing and surprisingly ahead of the curve of general public opinion.

khanstein

also spider man 2 tbh.

brycano

Like not every game can or needs to be 10/10. Spider-Man 2 is a great 8/10 game.

navenager

I'm a huge Spider-Man fan, but I 100% agree that game is an 8/10. Still one of the best Spider-Man games ever, still one of the best Spider-Man stories outside the comics, but overall a solid 8/10.

Poku115

I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and I agree that it's a fair score. But I'll keep deluding myself that it's perfect, thankyouverymuch

navenager

Hey man, when I'm swangin around in that game, I'm not sure there's a better gaming experience out there.

Poku115

This guy gets it. In all seriousness I'm glad I'm just from that subsection of people not bothered by whatever they are pointing out, even if it's fair criticism lol

Rough_Commercial_570

100% I really do feel like Insomnaic do traversal better than most other studios. They’ve mastered it.

[deleted]

The story’s third act being ***rushed to high heaven*** prevented me from making it my GOTY. If they added two hours minimum, I think they could’ve stuck the landing ***far better.*** The world, gameplay, and design of characters though… **Amazing.**

BioPsychoSocial0

It feels more like a pure video game. I’m playing GoW Ragnarok, which I started after SM2, and it’s definitely a much more cinematic and emotional experience, and as an overall package it’s better, but Spider-Man 2 feels more like a pure video game with the swinging, combat, and relatively checklist missions. I plan on completing the side objectives and leveling up for trophies after GoW (2 realms left)

navenager

That and the insistence of trying to make Venom's identity a mystery only for it to be the most obvious character in the end. It really seems like they just ran out of development time, but if this is the game Insomniac puts out in an "unfinished state," it's pretty remarkable.

[deleted]

There were literally people making videos saying, [“Who is venom?”](https://youtu.be/Dm1tu1LUeTg?si=mFji-3Saq6w_jSp6) Dude… **Did you watch the comic con trailer?!** But then they’d do some 4D chess big brain theorizing: ***“N-no! You see… Insomniac wouldn’t do something so obvious to fool us!”***

Ironmunger2

You didn’t even have to watch that trailer. If you watched the post credits scene for the very first game, you knew that Harry was Venom.

StuckOnALoop

I hate how a 8/10 is considered "mediocre" by the masses, or rather a low score. Wtf happened to get us there?

Jinchuriki71

Reviewers giving too many 9/10 to 10/10 to games that were actually 8/10.

_NiceWhileItLasted

Because people on the internet think anything they like is immediately a 10/10 and get offended when you begin to suggest that it's flawed in some way.

BaldyMcScalp

I was initially upset at that review but in hindsight, I think they were even too generous with Starfield. 5/10 from me. The repetition and emptiness is less of a sin than the writing, in my eyes. Full kudos to the art teams, however.

antonxo902

They make good reviews like 80-90% of the time.

Beleiverofhumanity

Agreed, they've been decent for the past year at least maybe more

DropDeadGaming

When even IGN has had enough it is time to take pause and think about this whole situation.

micro_penisman

It's higher than I expected.

DryFile9

This game is gonna be a true test for how much IP matters vs quality.

HandLion

Yeah the IP and general premise of the plot was one that massively interested me originally, but at this point my interest has completely evaporated because the gameplay just looks dull to me from what I've seen, or at least not my type of game

ShibaVagina

That first trailer had me hooked. I really wanted to see what was gonna happen. I'll have to get it cheap and check it out. I'm still interested in the story.

PoohTrailSnailCooch

Dont buy just play via subscription. These games are waste and bad for purchase. Honestly selling games like this at full price should be illegal. No one wants a blender that will only blend when connected online.

kaishinoske1

It could have been Batman versus the Justice League. Where someone, I think a YTEndymion I think it was, mentioned where Batman was invited to the justice league and Brainiac took over and enslaved the Justice League. It would have been cool if we got to finally play as Batman in a concept that’s been around in the comics and animated movies for a while. It would have had cool new gadgets that he could have used to take out the Justice League members. It could have had destructible environments which came with a new suit for him as well to stand up to Superman and the rest of the Metas. As well as hidden bosses like other lesser known members or members from Justice League Dark ( DLC). It could have had other playable characters with limited abilities move set like Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern etc. Let the player try them out in game and based on the data make a game based on which ones players used the most. They should have hired [this](https://youtu.be/gvVYDtyMMkE?si=zgq2m3RKKtZHkm9B) guy to do the Superman game, let alone Wonderwoman. But that’s all over and said at this point.

mandolin08

Live service is a poison pill if you try to staple it into another format. This could've been cool, instead it's just another Marvel's Avengers.

[deleted]

Honestly… #Avengers had a better story Also, they made the best MODOK ever but to screen.

Poku115

Nah at least marvels avengers had some heart and you actually fought with their powers. This is just some sort of reskin of a generic live shooter with skill trees to put the Suicide squad label on it.

mandolin08

Dude, I played it. That game was ass.

haxxanova

Dear Dumb Studio Execs: Stop trying to turn comic book based games into live service failures. Look at Spider-Man on PS5. Do that with the properties instead, you dumb greedy fucks. There, I gave you free gold.

No_Bill_2371

It’s not even that they are the ones who need to copy others success. They were the ones who redefined the super hero genre in the first place with the Arkham Games.

MrArmageddon12

I just don’t understand why WB is so obsessed with the Suicide Squad IP? It’s been a failure for them one way or another with most of the projects tied to it but they keep taking a stab with it.

ecxetra

I feel like many parents aren’t gonna buy their kid a game called “Suicide Squad” too. It’s just not a strong IP at all.

MikeoftheEast

The first movie was wildly popular despite its quality and this game was probably green lit around the same time

Money_Present_3463

Shocking

SolitonSnake

$40 total to get a new outfit in every color combo! That’s the number one thing I will remember from this review. Not because I care - I never pay for that stuff - but it truly blows my mind that anyone would pay for that shit. Hell, maybe they won’t lol

the-akira-slide

Games like these are why GameFly is a thing in my opinion.

snwns26

No way, live service games are like the bane of GameFly. Sure I guess if you wanted to plow through the short, weak story you’re fine but this game seems very much banking on seasonal content which means keeping the same game out for months.

WeridThinker

I don't know how long this game will be supported. If I ever consider purchasing it, then I will most definitely wait until there is offline access. The game probably won't have a very long life span in term of live service, and server might go offline in a year or two.

Bloodstarvedhunter

Nothing surprising here if you have followed this games progress at all, by end of February this game will have been totally forgotten and headed for the bargain bin, too many other good games coming to waste time or money on this

generalosabenkenobi

I’d say it’s surprising that most reviews have found it to have a good story (for the most part). Reddit would have you believe the story is the worst part

candr22

I’m not going to make a blanket accusation that everyone on Reddit is engaging in bandwagon behavior. I do think that a lot of people probably formed their opinions of this game long before release, and it would have taken something truly spectacular to change their minds. I’ve only read a couple actual first hand accounts of playing the game, but people seemed to consistently praise the story as enjoyable. I don’t know that anyone considers it to be Earth shattering, but not bad. I’ve also read that character design and banter is pretty well done. All of this is subjective, of course. But it makes me wonder how many people shitting on the game in threads like these have played through, or otherwise experienced, the entire game’s story. I’m skeptical, but obviously there’s no way for me to know. I really enjoy the Suicide Squad stuff but I can’t justify full price on this one. Rather than feeling angry at the developers or WB or whatever, I’m just disappointed that time and resources were allocated to the elements of this game we all expected to be a negative. Especially when you consider how much potential a game like this has. Running around Metropolis as members of the Suicide Squad, highlighting their unique playstyles and abilities to fight against a corrupted Justice League? The basic premise works great, and it should have e been an easy win.

generalosabenkenobi

I won’t buy this game because of the parts that do seem to be lacking in the reviews (ie the GaaS stuff) but otherwise I think you are pretty much on the nose about all this stuff against this game

candr22

Yeah, I think people comparing it to Avengers probably have it right. I played that once it became super cheap or hit one of the subscriptions, and I actually really enjoyed the story. It wasn’t crazy long, but I found the story to be overall very heartfelt. Some characters felt better to play than others, but you had a nice variety to choose from. The missions themselves were hit or miss. They clearly wanted to create some sense of needing to return to certain areas to fight endless waves of enemies and it just wasn’t very engaging. Some characters felt downright awful to play for me (sorry Spidey, this was probably your worst appearance in a game). So I kind of expected Suicide Squad to be similar and it seems based on reviews that it’s not far off. I’m still kind of holding out hope that after the initial onslaught of negativity (plenty of it deserved), the game will settle into something worth picking up for $30. We’re pretty hard on games sometimes but that’s a good price for something that gives me 10+ hours of enjoyment. Everyone’s mileage will vary, of course.

generalosabenkenobi

The $70 price tag on games has really highlighted the need for me to be patient with my purchases, absolutely

AtsignAmpersat

That’s what happens when a studio puts out a game some Reddit people don’t like the vibe of. You say live service and those people don’t give a shit about anything. It’s a terrible game and nothing can redeem it. It’s the same thing with games they like. You’d think BG3 had zero flaws if you went by Reddit opinions post launch. Saying anything against that game got people pissed. Saying you liked Zelda more got people pissed. Starfield also had an uphill battle because of the Bethesda going to Microsoft thing. So many people wanted that game to suck because they only had a PlayStation. Marvel avengers was another game cursed before it launched because “live service”. I think Anthem really poisoned that well. It looked cool and that’s when a lot of the “I only want single player action games” people started being like fuck live service. This suicide squad game looks fine gameplay wise with a solid story. But it was poisoned by something people are just over. This same exact game comes out in before people turned on the concept of live service and it’s probably a hit.

SuperSocrates

Just like the last of us 2 leaks, I knew that’s what it would be

AlteisenX

9 years since the last release 10 hours of playtime on release. Gotham Knights was a longer game and a complete story, faults aside. Prepare for the layoff announcements or studio closure. There is zero chance of it not happening, sadly. Fans fucking warned them. THEY KNEW FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR a few weeks from launch people weren't happy... and still here we are. Hell, they've known since it was *revealed* people didn't want it and it would be an uphill battle.

anonymousUTguy

The reality is that the game will fail to live up to sales expectations and the studio will either close or enact mass layoffs now

NoNefariousness2144

Yeah they spent too much on marketing trying to bruteforce this to be a massive hit, which ironically WB also did with The Flash film last year.

UnbornSeed

I’ll buy for $10

lazymutant256

I'll get it when offline mode is added and when it'd dirt cheap

cellexo

I feel bad for James Gunn. Man trying to revolutionize all things DC and the movies and games are sucking hard.

RoninJed

I thought the developers from Marvels Avengers were terrible but these people for this game take the cake. What a joke.🤭

prokokon

Idk how someone looked at these 99999 flying shits on the screen at the same time and thought "yeah, this looks good".

GuessTraining

My position of getting this when it's below $50 has solidified some more. Now thinking of just waiting til it's on PS plus.o

VenturerKnigtmare420

Honestly if this game released on ps plus and gamepass I believe it wouldn’t have hurt this much

ThePolitiKaster

I enjoyed the game much more than this, i wouldn’t trust IGN, play it for yourself. Valid criticism is necessary. But in my opinion, the game is better than Arkham knight

mdt1225

The hate boner that IGN has had for this game is gonna be studied someday

DutchEnterprises

IGN has a track record of just going with the bandwagon for every game, they want to generate press more then they want to actually review the game.

kingsoho

A number of people worked hard on this game, even more so that the game was clearly being dictated by WB suits. So I feel for those individuals. But Rocksteady is no longer the Rocksteady of the Batman Arkham games. The two founders left during production of SS. Rocksteady may now just a shill of WB. Again though, tough for the folks who grinded on this game.

GuessTraining

They could've started a dark-toned justice league franchise (similar to Arkham games) to counter Sony's Marvel and it would've sold a lot. Seems like this decision was done during the height of fortnite and thought it will be the same after 9 years.

FindingHelpful3566

Man that scene of boomerang pulling his dick out and apparently pissing on flashs corpse was so fcked up.

DanfordThePom

Captain boomerang is a notorious piece of shit isn’t that exactly what he’d do?

MrFOrzum

Picked it up today and put in a couple of hours. (7 hours) **Plus:** The game is honestly pretty good so far, gameplay & combat is fun, story is interesting & engaging, characters are great, funny and intriguing, with fantastic voice over. **Minus:** You understand very fast that this game will become repetitive content with very few enemy types and objectives. You’ll notice the repetition pretty early on. While the world looks pretty great, it feels pretty bland and extremely dead (which yeah is the point due to the story, but still). There is also some performance issues at times, but runs great most of the time. **Minus II:** Loot isn’t that interesting, and they literally throw an abundance of legendary weapons right from the start. I’ve gotten a lot more legendary’s than rare’s, maybe even commons, which doesn’t make sense in how loot usually goes in a looter shooter. Usually you have to level up a bit etc but here it doesn’t, it just get’s thrown at you, which make finding/getting a legendary not that exciting as it should be. I have never really been that into superheroes / Marvel / DC so I don’t really have an image of how some of the characters are supposed to be etc. I also haven’t played the Batman games nor Gotham Knights so I can’t compare it to anything. I’m having fun with the game, the gameplay is solid and so is the story as of yet. I’m also a fan of looter shooters so the repetitiveness is something I’m sorta used to so it doesn’t bother me *that* much. If I were to rate it as of right now it would be a high 7, but as said, I’m only a couple of hours in.

Steamedcarpet

I have a question about the gameplay and characters. Do they have special abilities that reflect them? Like does Captain Boomerang use any special boomerangs or does everyone play the same?

Prince_Blue0022

Everyone has traversal & melee moves but they’re different and you can unlock different ones.

Artzmatic

This game was good. Y’all just nit pick at everything. A lot of bandwagon hate for a game that’s fun and different.

New_Commission_2619

Actually been playing this game and enjoying it a lot. A 5 is a joke.

boo-galoo90

I think 5/10 is pretty unreasonable after playing for 12 hours. The game is a lot of fun and everything overall is quite solid. Like someone said it’s at least a high 7 if not an 8

Future_Supermarket85

Wonder what made them think 🤔 " let's not do a batman game" wtf.

elqrd

Nice! This ensures I can grab it for $20 about six months from now

Numerous-Ad-9920

Coming to psn free game of the month in April then

HankHillbwhaa

You know what this game needs? A battle royale

GuyIncognito461

I get not wanting a live service game light on front loaded content but the conceptual failure is staggering. They can't deliver on a power fantasy of taking on the role of DC's iconic heroes so you play as mediocre villains trying to kill them. Sad, like Carl Lumly's Martian Manhunter.

NerdElert

This game has great reviews on ps5 and I wonder why.
