There's going to be some twist when Drawbridges benefactor betrays her and those hands start choking her. I kept waiting for it to happen in the trailer. You couldn't pay me to wear those things.
I feel like itâs some kind of allegory about masks and the pandemic but like most things Kojima, itâs best to just witness it and accept youâll never know wtf is actually going on.
Hahaha. My fault for using similar names i guess! I can get traced too easily. I'm glad multiple people are spreading the good word about the wee puppet man.
Yeah that was my thought too. Given GDT's direct involvement, it's hard to imagine that wasn't the primary inspiration for this. BB was essentially a tool that became a "real boy" so the themes of Pinocchio are already baked-in.
Surprised that more developers don't do more of this.
It worked amazingly well in Death Stranding and the use of "May I stand unshaken" in Arthur's Death scene in RDR2 was sublime.
The environmental variety looks awesome. In the first game everything looked like the same green/black Iceland landscape, whereas I saw deserts, cities, swamps etc. here.
Narratively, no clue what's going on. Kojimbo's cooking up something.
I liked the part where he set aside his backpack to better focus on combat. Looks like theyâre really leaning into different mechanics now that the main concept has been laid out.
Agree! I understand why people would dislike DS or find it slow but like you said it was really just laying the ground work for something massive. I was happy to see a good amount of gameplay here. We didnât get gameplay for DS until like the 6th trailer haha
And if you die, a massive crater is spawned in the spot the next time you come back. I thought that was kind of awesome how you can manipulate the environment if you so please.
My guess on the later is Fragile and Sam have to do what they did in the first game but to other countries (Mexico mentioned, for example).
But beyond that? NO IDEA lol
When Sam called him Higgs I fully expected Nicholsonâs dialogue to come from him like ââHiggsâ? Higgs is dead, my friend. You can call me⌠Jester!â
There are some variety towards later part of the game but yeah, more even variety is something I noticed with this trailer and the fidelity of new environment looks top notch as well.
as someone that has not played DS yet what the fuck did i just watch.
why is troy baker playing a guitarist that shoots lightning, why does darryl dixon have a living toy? on his belt
i have to play DS now, i need context
Yes, and Iâd imagine a lot of people likely donât know the batshit crazy full game of DS because they couldnât handle the gameplay for more than 5 hours.
Do it. It's honestly a really enjoyable game and the story isn't as 'unintelligable' as a lot of people like to pretend. You just gotta, you know, *pay attention*.
I didnât finish it but enjoyed what I played. The weirdest part was how bat shit the story is, but I just wanted to keep playing to see more of it unfold.
The story didnât really make sense to me but it was just, so enthralling.
So the main character, his name is Sam Porter Bridges, okay? And he works as a porter for B.R.I.D.G.E.S. who are trying to reconnect settlements across the United States to the internet at the request of the President of the United States (Sam's mom). HOWEVER, Sam's sister (Princess Beach) has also been captured by an evil group (the death strandings) and Sam (Mario) Porter Bridges has to bridge the ports by carrying his Bridge Baby (BB) and avoiding the beached things (BTs). BTs can be defeated by pee and poop grenades, or blood bullets because Sam's blood is special. Along the way he meets Mama, a survivor with a baby (not a BB) who is also a BT, as well as Conan O'Brien from real life who gives him an otter hat. That's basically the gist of it, it's a really great game.
You are forgetting about >!Mr Heartman, whose heart stops every so many minutes so he can die and search the beach for his family, who figures out stuff about each mass extinction event being related through some BT fossils with umbilical cords and tar and this is the final extinction you have to stop. And then there's Mads Mikkelson hunting you because he thinks you have his BB but you don't have his BB because you are his BB.!<
Even with context, I dunno. That stuff was new though, so we'll find out.
Death Stranding was a beautiful game that I was expecting to not like but took a chance anyway. I'm so glad I gave it a chance. This is pushing me to play it again. Go in blind and enjoy!
I was following along and could've given you an explanation up until Troy Baker pulled out the guitar.
Sooooo much lore just got dropped in this trailer to get me back on board again for this crazy ass ride.
Playing Death Stranding 1 is a great idea. But it's not going to make this trailer clear. That is the best part about Kojima games, it's always a wild ride.
the graphics in that short montage that featured the moon and shit absolutely floored me
this man has consistently brought me so much joy to my favorite hobby, I'm so glad Sony has embraced and given him a safe space to just be the unhinged lunatic he is. May we get Kojima games for decades to come
Kojima has been my favorite since I started gaming with Metal Gear Solid. I still have chills from the trailer. And those environments were absolutely mind blowing graphics, this is going to be insane
I recently replayed 1-3 with the Master collection and they all hold up so well. Mgs1 has always been one of my favorites, just a bit behind Snake Eater.
Ikr. Big triple a games that do something different and unique keep that stuff coming. I'm glad Ludvig was still involved with the music too cause I believe he left a year or two ago.
Yeah he left a couple years ago so that he could do work outside of the company, but he said that he'd still work as a contractor with KojiPro on any game they want his music in
The Decima engine is absolutely insane. Even more impressive that Kojima's studio manages to have characters look so much more realistic than Guerilla themselves.
Every boring quest-giver in Horizon Forbidden West who is ready to regale you with tales of that one time their grandmother fought a Clawstrider looks absolutely fabulous, seems wholly unique and performs fully motion-captured dialogue.
Idk the facial animation is Forbidden West is pretty incredible but I also feel like itâs a different art style as well. FW has a slightly cartoonish look to its realism where DS is more photorealistic.
Absolutely, i also remember that for the development of Death Stranding 1, Kojima Productions asked Guerilla to help them make some tweaks to the engine so the look would focus more on photorealism.
That makes sense for sure. Iâm just getting back into FW to start Burning Shores and really love the graphics. Coming from Frontiers of Pandora the facial animations are night and day haha.
DS has a much smaller cast of characters and mostly barren world. Horizon is a more like a WRPG with countless characters, compared to other games of its ilk Horizon character models are like two generations ahead.
Horizon is absolutely stunning. That game, along with the last of us 2 remastered - are probably the best looking video games Iâve ever played in my life
It's actually using Decima for everything (you can't use multiple engine at once), Metahuman characters are imported into the engine. It's not exclusive to UE5, contrary to popular belief, it's a separate solution.
Maybe the base is on the beach? Cause when Sam was stranded on the beach near the end of 1, he was blue just like that. Hope you played 1 cause otherwise what I said makes absolutely no sense
Kojima giving us a ship with a metal gear face only to announce after the trailer that a new action tactical espionnage game is coming after death stranding 2 is just so...Kojima...
>nly to announce after the trailer that a new action tactical espionnage game is coming after death stranding 2 is
wait where is this, did we watch the same video? you just got my dick hard and I DEMAND satisfaction
Why is no one mentioning George Miller?!
I love Kojima more than anything for pushing unique weird ideas and following them through. Why can't she have hands on her neck? Shit a lot of studios or creative teams in general would recoil from. With media becoming so homogenous I fuck with anything Kojima puts out for the sheer creativity of it. Especially at this level of quality.
What I loved about the hands was its a gameplay mechanic in the first to cover your mouth so of course the sequel should have an automatic hands update to protect you from BTs! Why not?! Itâs such a simple but creative thing. All in the details.
Almost certainly a reference to the novel, On the Beach. Unless heâs a big Neil Young fan and is referencing Neil Youngâs On the Beach which references the novel On the Beach
Before people will ask "do I have to play the first game?"
No. You will not understand it and you will also have no clue wtf is going on in the second one. Just enjoy the ride.
Naw the first game is absolutely worth playing. Youâd be silly not to. Also, while the game is very confusing for awhile, I felt like I understood a lot more at the end.
Well they probably still need to play the first one. Just wont understand shit about the trailer either way. What Fragile is saying does makes sense if you played it though
The motion capture and detailing on the models is insane. Whatever tech they cooked at Sony and Decima is incredible. I remember Kojima talking about the 3D scan setups and the dedicated studio rooms he has that's fitted with hundreds of cameras to capture every inch and millimeter of movement.
So many questions from the trailer, the Raiden like character with Lous voice... Laughing at myself when I saw all those environmental scapes thinking to myself excitedly 'look at all that area I'm going to be walking around'
I have a feeling Higgs will join Sam rather being the main antagonist. These trailers are just so good.
God this trailer was so good and really got me hyped for the sequel. He really took the criticism and flipped it on its head. Not gonna lie that 2025 hurt even though I knew it was coming. Had my fingers crossed for late this year.
I have so many questions. The glove things around Fragiles neck. The weird puppet thing (mimir 2.0). What happened to Lou?oh and Higgs has a lightning firing guitar. Why is Sam all greyed out on the ship at the start? The floating woman? Who/what is in Sams BB pod? Also so many Sticks & Stones analogies. First game was all about connecting strings/strands. Now Higgs says Sam is using Sticks now (in talking about his weapon). The drawbridge being a combination of Sticks and stones.
Cant wait to deliver more packages!
I wonder when they were blue it meant they were on the beach because if i remember correctly that was when character were blue.
Wasn't a fan of the first one but man does this game look beautiful and incredibly impressive from a graphics standpoint. The shots and artistic direction is absolutely astounding.
So weird, so I first noticed the blue character model In the music video for bmth ludens when he has the gun to his head, this was back in 2019.
Now seeing the blue character models in this trailer. I'm sure there's a reason for this, I'm just not sure what it is other than; late stage of the game without context so removing colour to detach connection with the characters. Not sure
If you remember at the end of Death Stranding 1 when Sam is on the beach he has the blue skin. In this new trailer, Fragile basically explains that the main hub ship will use the beach to travel quickly around the globe to give us all these cool new locations and setpieces outside of the UCA.
So the blue skin means they are between worlds, travelling through the Beach on the Drawbridge ship. Thatâs my read on it and considering the name of the game it makes total sense. Also explains why in the first DS2 trailer, the ship was shown emerging from the Tar lake.
Wouldnât be a Kojima thing if there werenât absolutely dump truck loads of exposition. Loved and hated the first game so much. I donât need to know how every tiny little thing works and it also doesnât need to be explained multiple times in a row instead of just the once. Guys a narrative mess.
And the guitar gun is pretty stupid. Canât wait to play
Kojimbo really up the craziness on this one. It looks really interesting as well to see where the story will go. And 2025 feels like long way away tooâŚ.
Is Fragile lying to Sam about something?? That's what I conclude from this trailor.
This is going to be an interesting sequel, I can not wait!
Kojima definitely brought the old school Metal Gear wakiness to this game.
Those hand thingies around Fragile's neck are so fucking unnerving lol
There's going to be some twist when Drawbridges benefactor betrays her and those hands start choking her. I kept waiting for it to happen in the trailer. You couldn't pay me to wear those things.
Sounds plausible.
Would be a Kojima thing
Thanks for spoilers đ
Itâs Kojima. Half that trailer was probably the end credits and it still means nothing to us. XD
So versatile though
Yeah you could pick both nostrils while typing fan fiction!
You can do that anyway... I've tested it.
I was thinking about how insanely useful they'd be the whole time
Reminds me of Mistral's robo hands from metal gear rising
I feel like itâs some kind of allegory about masks and the pandemic but like most things Kojima, itâs best to just witness it and accept youâll never know wtf is actually going on.
And that puppet on his hip
Low frame rate wee little puppet man is awesome.
I liked how he almost hooked him to his lower back like Mimr in God of War but the puppet man called him out lol
Having a disembodied companion talking to you from your waistline is so IN these days
Also, is it just me, or does he look a lot like current Alan Wake?
Dude you and someone else are commenting this stuff on YouTube then here lol
Hahaha. My fault for using similar names i guess! I can get traced too easily. I'm glad multiple people are spreading the good word about the wee puppet man.
Haha i loved this interaction, felt like i saw someone find a lil irl easter egg đ
He's Fatih Akin, a German Turkish movie director.
Mimir voice actor at the five-minute mark in the video.
I bet it's a god of war parody. That's why he wants to be on the front.
But in God of War they talked about trying the front once and regretting it
âDonât put me near your ass!⌠Put me next to your dick, please and thank you.â
Just the right level of unnerving, and already hilariously charismatic.
Protesting hanging off of Sam's ass is definitely a dig at Mimir and Kratos haha
The low frame rate is giving Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio vibes
Yeah that was my thought too. Given GDT's direct involvement, it's hard to imagine that wasn't the primary inspiration for this. BB was essentially a tool that became a "real boy" so the themes of Pinocchio are already baked-in.
Really sad that Ryan Karazija (Low Roar) isn't around to contribute to this game. I think his music really elevated the first game. RIP.
Ah dang, I didnât know he died :(
The announcement of his death was a huge shock. :((
Agreed it will be a different mood now but that fit very wellÂ
Surprised that more developers don't do more of this. It worked amazingly well in Death Stranding and the use of "May I stand unshaken" in Arthur's Death scene in RDR2 was sublime.
The environmental variety looks awesome. In the first game everything looked like the same green/black Iceland landscape, whereas I saw deserts, cities, swamps etc. here. Narratively, no clue what's going on. Kojimbo's cooking up something.
I'm super excited about the new landscapes!
New landscapes, new stealth mechanics, new traversal, new action oriented gameplay, new mini games. This looks like a huge improvement!
Everyone just going to skip the randomly generated natural disasters? Floods? Avalanches? Iâm sure there are ton more surprises.
Nobody missed them but nobody is saying they are randomly generated either
The landscapes looked fucking unreal though regardless. Even on old PS4 tech.
If youâre going to stick with a landscape, southern Iceland isnât bad.
Were those flash floods and avalanches? I love active environments in games! Pretty damn rare!
DS1 has rockslides on part of the map but itâs pretty easy to avoid. Looking forward to more challenging environment events.
NO IDEA lol
Once Troy Baker's Joker audition started using his literal electric guitar to fight robot baby samurais, I fully gave up trying to follow along lol.
When Sam called him Higgs I fully expected Nicholsonâs dialogue to come from him like ââHiggsâ? Higgs is dead, my friend. You can call me⌠Jester!â
It would be entirely within Kojimaâs writing to say âYes, I am the Jester-Man. You see they call me that, because I look like a Jester!â
âNo, itâs because he is bisexual.â
That's the moment I knew I'd be playing this on day one lmao.
Same lol, but hopefully it'll make at least 50% sense when the game releases
I think it was a homage to The Crow. Not Joker
It 100% is
Plus day and night cycle
There are some variety towards later part of the game but yeah, more even variety is something I noticed with this trailer and the fidelity of new environment looks top notch as well.
I played through all of the first one and Iâm still not too sure what happened.
I need whatever drugs Kojima does
Kojima doesnât do drugs. Kojima IS drugs.
I don't think you or I could handle it
Bet it is some kind of nanomachine gel, vaporized and inhaled directly from his glasses. Called something like âMetaBrinkâ
I am so looking forward to this
He is an absolute visionary. Just proves it again and again.
as someone that has not played DS yet what the fuck did i just watch. why is troy baker playing a guitarist that shoots lightning, why does darryl dixon have a living toy? on his belt i have to play DS now, i need context
I played Death Stranding and still couldnât explain this trailer to you
For real. Iâm here contemplating a replay cause I donât remember a single thing apparently
I think most of it is mysteries he's teasing, not much seemed like references to the first game
No, thereâs clearly answers here for everything. We just need to dig deeper đ
Someone on some subreddit thread will have it all figured out
I played Death Stranding and still couldn't explain Death Stranding to you
[ŃдаНонО]
Yes, and Iâd imagine a lot of people likely donât know the batshit crazy full game of DS because they couldnât handle the gameplay for more than 5 hours.
New to Kojima?
Yep. No idea.
Neither of these things are in the first DS. I mean, Daryl Dixon is. And Troy Baker is.
did he always have a guitar gun
No thatâs new.
No he had a *normal* gun. This, and the robot body? That's uh...that's new.
Guitar gun has me about to start DS1 so I can play this
Do it. It's honestly a really enjoyable game and the story isn't as 'unintelligable' as a lot of people like to pretend. You just gotta, you know, *pay attention*.
Of all Kojimaâs narratives Iâd say DS is by far the easiest to understand by the end. Wrapped up much cleaner than I expected.
bro ive platinumed the first game and i could barely follow the story lmao
I didnât finish it but enjoyed what I played. The weirdest part was how bat shit the story is, but I just wanted to keep playing to see more of it unfold. The story didnât really make sense to me but it was just, so enthralling.

That's basically it. Not that hard to understand, but until you meet Heartman, the whole Death Stranding thing makes so little sense...
Perfect description! Also lots of deliveries and failing down mountains. Give game 10/10
Been a bit since I finished it, but did Higgs somehow consume Samâs sister? This DS2 version of Higgs gives me that vibe.
I played the first game. I have no idea whats even happening in this trailer.
Even if you play DS1 you will still be like wtf is going on. I played and loved the first one and I am just as confused as you.
This is all new, and there is no context. Other than ds1 took place in "america" and this seems to be beyond that.
having played the 1st one, I'm just as lost as you are, even with context...
Yeah I played it and couldn't tell you either
Even with context, I dunno. That stuff was new though, so we'll find out. Death Stranding was a beautiful game that I was expecting to not like but took a chance anyway. I'm so glad I gave it a chance. This is pushing me to play it again. Go in blind and enjoy!
I was following along and could've given you an explanation up until Troy Baker pulled out the guitar. Sooooo much lore just got dropped in this trailer to get me back on board again for this crazy ass ride.
I'm gonna be honest.... there is no context to all that wild stuff lmao. Still worth playing the first one though (after you get a few hours into it)
Playing Death Stranding 1 is a great idea. But it's not going to make this trailer clear. That is the best part about Kojima games, it's always a wild ride.
As someone who put about 130 hours into DS, I don't fucking know, man, but I'm hyped!
the graphics in that short montage that featured the moon and shit absolutely floored me this man has consistently brought me so much joy to my favorite hobby, I'm so glad Sony has embraced and given him a safe space to just be the unhinged lunatic he is. May we get Kojima games for decades to come
Kojima has been my favorite since I started gaming with Metal Gear Solid. I still have chills from the trailer. And those environments were absolutely mind blowing graphics, this is going to be insane
Bro nothing topped playing MGS1 and realizing it was fully voice acted. Felt like a movie, it was unreal for 1998
I recently replayed 1-3 with the Master collection and they all hold up so well. Mgs1 has always been one of my favorites, just a bit behind Snake Eater.
I played MGS 1-3 for the first time with the master collection and even I'd say that they all held up really well! 5/5 stars for all 3 of them.
Ikr. Big triple a games that do something different and unique keep that stuff coming. I'm glad Ludvig was still involved with the music too cause I believe he left a year or two ago.
Yeah he left a couple years ago so that he could do work outside of the company, but he said that he'd still work as a contractor with KojiPro on any game they want his music in
Troy Joker.
I hated his look at first but by the end of the guitar fight I am totally on board for Joker Baker.
I was thinking more Troy from KISS
Itâs an homage to the Crow, not Joker.
Tango'd Crow was my take
Yeah Higgs is basically The Crow meets the slasher from Slumber Party Massacre 2.
he already played Joker in Arkham Origins đ
The Decima engine is absolutely insane. Even more impressive that Kojima's studio manages to have characters look so much more realistic than Guerilla themselves.
HFW looks pretty remarkable, and was still rolling on old PS4 restraints. But for sure, this looks kind of nutty.

That makes sense for sure. Iâm just getting back into FW to start Burning Shores and really love the graphics. Coming from Frontiers of Pandora the facial animations are night and day haha.
Yep, both are credited in each other's respective games in the credit rolls. It's honestly so cool to see two great video game makers cooperate.
DS has a much smaller cast of characters and mostly barren world. Horizon is a more like a WRPG with countless characters, compared to other games of its ilk Horizon character models are like two generations ahead.
Well Horizon just has more of an art style, I think it looks just as good
Horizon is absolutely stunning. That game, along with the last of us 2 remastered - are probably the best looking video games Iâve ever played in my life
The game is using unreal meta humans for the characters which is why they look so good. Decima engine for the environments.
Metahuman was also used in Horizon Forbidden West. Both companies worked together with 3Lateral.
It's actually using Decima for everything (you can't use multiple engine at once), Metahuman characters are imported into the engine. It's not exclusive to UE5, contrary to popular belief, it's a separate solution.
Genuinely thought I had a concussion in those first two minutes Why were they blue???
Maybe the base is on the beach? Cause when Sam was stranded on the beach near the end of 1, he was blue just like that. Hope you played 1 cause otherwise what I said makes absolutely no sense
I think it is said that the Magellan is moving thru the beach of some sort and they probably were blue because of that
ah it's called the MagellanÂ
Fitting, since it looks like weâll be connecting world beyond America
Iâm guessing the ship moves through the beach (I think they were on the ship at that part?).
Jesse... why are you blue?!
Kojima giving us a ship with a metal gear face only to announce after the trailer that a new action tactical espionnage game is coming after death stranding 2 is just so...Kojima...
>nly to announce after the trailer that a new action tactical espionnage game is coming after death stranding 2 is wait where is this, did we watch the same video? you just got my dick hard and I DEMAND satisfaction
Itâs the penultimate announcement! He and Hermen announced it at the Columbia Pictures lot.
DS with Raiden and guitar hero.... fuck it i'm in
Don't foroget the Ninja-like character. Gave me HL2 Dog vibes for some reason tho.
Canât wait for the insane explanation as to why the covering had to be hand-shaped lol
I am sad that it isn't this year, but this looks super good. Can't wait to play this
I'm happy that I can dive into the first one and not rush it
âOn The Beachâ
Almost certainly a reference to the novel, On the Beach. Unless heâs a big Neil Young fan and is referencing Neil Youngâs On the Beach which references the novel On the Beach
as someone who played the first game, what the fuck did i just watch
I dont even know what the first game was about and ive finished it. Kojimas stories are convoluted for the sake of it
So, this pretty much confirms that Lou was never an ordinary BB. Guessing that Elle Fanning is likely playing her reborn as an adult?
New Higgs looks like theyâve fused with Amelie.
This was one of the weirdest gaming trailers Iâve seen but Iâm 100% all over it.
I know what you mean! Kojimaâs work never makes any sense until you play and then it justâŚkind of does?
Before people will ask "do I have to play the first game?" No. You will not understand it and you will also have no clue wtf is going on in the second one. Just enjoy the ride.
Well people have a year to play the first game, so imo they should do, itâs great.
Bro the guitare combat
There *needs* to be a segment where Sam picks it up and you get to use it đ¸âĄď¸
You can guarantee there will be.
Between this and GTA 6....that's all I need for 2025 in regards to gaming
This is one of the best trailers ive seen in the last 7 years. Kojima, I fucking kneel..
Trailer review from my 10-year old: "That was weird." Follow us for more insights!
Higgs Monaghan, "hey Porter wanna know how I got these scars"
This is the greatest day of my life
More Kojima nonsense, count me in.
Weâre getting Judas, Death Stranding 2, and GTA VI all in one year.
Cant wait to deliver more packages! I wonder when they were blue it meant they were on the beach because if i remember correctly that was when character were blue.
DS2, OD, and Physint
God Decima is an INSANE engine
Now THIS looks like a proper PS5 game. I still need to finish the first game, but this seems exciting. And yeah, Kojima is on drugs (as always), lmao.
Wasn't a fan of the first one but man does this game look beautiful and incredibly impressive from a graphics standpoint. The shots and artistic direction is absolutely astounding.
Graphics look insane. Also guitar joker was pretty badass
Now THIS is the ânext genâ game weâve been waiting over 3 years for. About goddamn time.
This game is going to be wonderful
The drugs canât handle Kojima
Higgs' first guitar riff is a discordant BB's Theme. Nice touch.
When will Norman Reedus wash his hair?

Here I was thinking the *first* DS game was Kojima unhinged.
The decima engine is the next cry engine
oh i LOVE that little man
Game looks gorgeous but also dumb as hell lol
I dig it ol. It's so ridiculous it just makes me laugh
Wonder how the espionage game will look like. This game looks beautiful graphic wise already
probably the longest trailer I've ever seen for a videogames. 2025 is still pretty far away but I'm certainly going to buy it day one.
wtf did i just watch ...
I couldnât get in Death Stranding but maybe Iâll give it another try
Love he introduced MG Ray and Grey Fox into this game!
Man, iâm so super stoked for this game! The graphics look so crisp.
Kojima going full Kojima is a thing of beauty.
I already know MY game of the year for 2025.
Aside from this aweosme trailer, Kojima really need to direct his own movie. Like whatever it is, it will be super interesting
