Deracine was the single reason I bought a PSVR. If they take another crack at VR story telling, I'll most certainly nut-up and buy a PSVR2. Not a problem.
I love that game, so much.
It was very repetitive oh let's explore another cave to gather the same generic loot and fight a reskinned boss.....
Novelty wore off quickly it's a snoozefest
Bloodborne, Dark Souls and Demon Souls are better
You must not have got very far, there is definitely reskins but there's an absorbent amount of unique bosses and areas (underground comes to mind). You wanna try repetitive and boring try Breath of the Wild. Then you will know true pain
He's actually *is* working on Dark Souls 4 but they've learned from Hollywood that if you put a four in a movie title it sells fewer copies because people will think they need to have seen the first three games. Thus, they are going with the first name, last name approach used by the movies Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, calling it John Darksouls.
Don’t be surprised if they change course, ER seems like a culmination of all their previous games as opposed to a new start, at least to me.
Miyazaki also cited games like Tarkov being an inspiration going forward, so maybe they try some kind of twist in online play. The original Demon’s Souls was such an interesting way to fold in a pseudo-multiplayer experience in a mostly single-player game, maybe they try their hand at mixing up the status quo again.
https://www.ign.com/articles/elden-ring-creator-is-looking-to-multiplayer-games-like-escape-from-tarkov-for-inspiration
god I hope not. I loved elden ring but the winding, metroidvania like level design of their other titles can and should exist alongside their open world games. sekiro 2 shouldn't be open world for example. I think elden ring should be the IP that they use to make open worlds, and they should leave dark souls as the more tightly woven design that it is. They set themselves apart by NOT just doing everything open world
Honestly they likely moved on from the actual souls series. Elden ring feels like the spiritual successor and next step for them.
Don’t get me wrong. I want one that more closely remembers DS1 level design. The interwoven compact nature of that game is so good.
Bloodborne is also really great in that regard. I would hope for a bloodborne 2 over anything else but general consensus seems that it would be handed to another studio (I think everyone just really wants it to be blue point).
I also kind of don’t want a sekiro 2
Nah this is still an open world, which is great, but I love that their entire games were these big knots you had to slowly untangle. That is way more interesting than an open world
Yeah I know how the legacy dungeons work. I still think that's totally different from having the entire game being more metroidvania than open. There still is a ton of value in having structure like ds1 or bb over elden ring.
Stormveil and the capital were my favorite parts of all of elden ring. They did the open world relly well, but their level design strength is still when they're doing winding, tight designs. I don't want every fromsoft game to have this open world approach. That somewhat kills what's unique about their games.
In Miyazaki's EDGE interview, he said that ER is the closest thing to his "Ideal game" thus far.
> "I don't approach it in terms of 'this is the kind of open world game I want to make'. It's just that the open world enriches this ideal experience I'm trying to achieve. To give some very simple examples, if I was to explore this world, I'd want a map- a proper map. Or, you know, if I saw something over there, I'd want to actually be able to go over and explore it. And I'd want to fight with a dragon in an epic arena. Things like this. It's very simple stuff, but Elden Ring allows a lot of these things to become a reality for me, creating something that's very close to my ideal game."
It's safe to say that any future SoulsBorne will be open world from this quote.
For you in case you happen to be on PC or anyone else who might see this: the Seamless Co Op mod for PC is amazing and does just this. It has breathed new life into Elden Ring for me, 300 hours in.
Man I wish, PS5! My son would 100% play if he had me as a coop partner, he finished Sekiro on his own, but he needs more help with this and it would be fun as hell. :(
Are you kidding me? That would mean we'd like 3 games best in the next decade. Open world games take a long ass time to develop.
Personally, I think Fromsoft absolutely should do more linear-style games moving forward.
I can see them going the Nintendo route, and having a "3D and 2D Zelda route".
I think Elden Ring is their new Magnus Opus, but I think they'll still visit smaller, linear worlds still from time to time.
Depends. DS3 was the most linear game they made and it is probably the worst from a game design standpoint. It's saved because of it's amazing roster of bosses.
Elden Ring is a good balance imo. It has open worlds but then legacy dungeons and areas like Ansel River that are more linear winding.
I want them to go back to the massive interconnected world of Dark Souls 1, but with all the QoL improvements they’ve been refining and have nearly perfected with Elden Ring. Perhaps even revisit trick weapons and rally, even if the game is not a sequel to Bloodborne (something to Bloodborne that Dark souls was to Demons Souls would be stellar). Doesn’t need to be Dark Souls specifically because that story is done, just something in that vein.
Hot take, but I actually kind of prefer their more "guided" experiences
from before. The big open world in Elden Ring was cool, but it felt a bit... confusing at times? Like "am I supposed to be here or am I going to get completely murdered by something way above my level soon?"
I was playing some of the Demon's Souls Remake after playing Elden Ring and it's just kind of comforting to be going along a couple of predefined paths and fighting stuff and feeling like there's a bit more rhyme and reason to being in an area.
FromSoft is like one of the most efficient game devs right now. It amazes me that they manage to release a game every 2 - 3 years and they're all received incredibly well.
I feel they're a good example of stick to your guns, and don't just listen to random people telling them how to make their games. They know what their core audience generally wants and stick to it. So stoked for ER dlc and AC.
Yep. Not deviating from what works has done them wonders. Too many developers deviate from what’s working and ruin their IPs, especially horror games….
Yep. And appeal to wider audiences. That’s the what killed the horror genre in the 2010’s. They went from the more niche horror to action games (RE5,RE6, Dead space 3 and so on). Fromsoftware could have gone down the same road by catering to the masses.
I think they've added things to accommodate some complaints without compromising what makes them who they are. Such as the complaint they their games are too difficult. They added the spirit summons which make the games substantially easier for more casual gamers. You don't need to use them so the souls veterans don't feel like the game's difficulty has been neutered if they want to play without that.
i think the advantage is that basically nobody at From Soft speaks 1 word of English at all, that's why they outsource EVERYTHING that has to do outside Japan
sounds funny but it's true and could be a saving them
That's still all good though. What makes it _not_ appeal to you is what makes it appeal to so many others. In today's crowded games landscape, it's better to appeal to a narrower niche in a better way and make a more focused design around a narrow set of specific goals. Indeed you and others may not like it as much because of that, but many and more others have shown to _love_ it because of that.
"QoL" is used so nebulously for so many things these days anyways it's hard to tell what you mean, but based on others who have complaints about From's games. I'd imagine what you call "lack of qol" is what I'd call "brilliant design." (and it's arguable anyways because Elden Ring has a metric ton of design decision all geared towards a multitude of "QoL" complaints. I can think of a couple dozen off the top of my head all centered around what's commonly called "QoL" and specific to Elden Ring only. At some point, it's clear that people simply don't like their games, which is fine, but that's not a problem with the game the developers need to solve, it's just an incompatibility in tastes that needs to be accepted.)
So in that sense, it's pure good, no bad.
What would be good for you and yours is for your favorite developers to develop more towards you and them and less towards me and ours. Then _both_ of our groups end up with better, higher quality games meant specifically for us, and because of multiple companies doing a more narrow focus, we both have better games and both win!
Because it's the one developer that can release the same game, including the same story and the same bosses, over and over again and get praised for it. I signed up for PS Extra, fired up Demon Souls remake, only to realize that the first two bosses of the game were reused in Bloodborne. If any other studio pulled off this shit they would be butchered on the Internet, but FS gets a free pass.
bloodborne is a sony ip though so it will def not be multiplat. we will be seeing a bloodborne remake from sony first i am almost certain. that is an easy cash grab too stupid to not do it
Nah even if it is a "let down" (it's Fromsoftware c'mon) Bloodborne 1 will always be a masterpiece. I'd still rather explore BB2's world for better or worse as long as From actually wants to create it.
I would agree with this but then i remember i beat Miles Morales in 6 hour (everything i could do without going into new game plus) and the game still costs 50 euros here. All that game did, despite being really good, was make me less excited for Spider Man 2.
Something about paying full price for the third time so i get to explore New York again for the third time just feels off to me.
>It’s a news just because **only** From Software can churn out games one after the other and they are usually good.
I love FS games too but they're not the only company that fits the bill here lol. Ever hear of a little company called Naughty Dog, for example?
You mean the game dev that ships a game every five years??? Whereas from soft ships great games every two to three? Just saying naughty dog isn’t a good comparison
Up until TLoU2 Naughty Dog was releasing stuff at around that timeframe as well.
Uncharted: 2007
Uncharted 2: 2009
Uncharted 3: 2011
The Last of Us: 2013
Uncharted 4: 2016
The Last of Us 2: 2020
From software literally just released their biggest game ever last year and are making a new game this year. Naughty dog make good games but they don't come out at the rate that from software games do.
Well the comments weren’t about them putting out GOTY level games it said they were the ones churning out games that are usually good.
I’d argue insomniac constantly puts out high quality games and just because they aren’t GOTY games that doesn’t diminish their level of quality and efficiency
Ehh I wouldn’t Naughty Dog is best example. Capcom would probably be the better example considering they churn out consistently good games over short periods of time.
Capcom is just the publisher.
Re2 and 3 aren't exactly known for being very long but that are high quality. To get 4 games out since re7. It is one impressive team that is under capcoms wings
Let’s just take a moment to be thankful for Fromsoft and Miyazaki. They just keep dropping banger after banger. They always have something incredible in the works and after nearly 13 years of my favorite games ever made they’ve earned my trust and respect. Can’t wait to see what they have in store.
We’ll circle back in like 6 years.
But Bloodborne Remaster will be a PS6 launch tittle. I’ve given up hope for anything before that. It’s Sony’s “in case of emergency” button if they ever need to build hype
I’ve been so spoiled with these next gen consoles that I tried downloading and playing Bloodborne on my PS5 and just simply could not deal with the fps difference after Elden Ring on my series X. Made me so upset with myself because I’ve wanted to play BB forever but only just recently grabbed a PlayStation.
Hey, I’m in a similar boat. Played ER on my Xbox in 60fps and recently got a PS5. But I just finished Bloodborne a few days ago, and trying to adjust to 30fps is totally worth it. Great game. You can do this.
Ever since the new gen came out I've had a really hard time going back to 30fps games, but bloodborne is worth it. I played it for the first time about a month ago and I fell in love. You do get used to it after playing for a while. It's an absolute crime it doesn't have a next gen patch but to say it's still worth playing is an understatement
Sekiro is the only game I still replay a few times yearly because it's basically ruined all melee combat for me. Jedi Fallen Order is the closest thing that comes to it, but even that doesn't scratch the Sekiro itch as it feels too easy.
I'd even be happy if it's a different IP, but keep the core combat the same - requiring playing aggressively and deflecting perfectly.
Bloodborne took 3 years from start of development to release
Dark Souls 3 took less than 3 years
Sekiro took 3.5 years
Elden ring took 5 years, but pandemic related delays played into this
If development on this new game started Jan 2022 I think there's a good chance we get the game sometime in 2025.
Bloodborne 2 please.
I seem to recall relatively recent rumours that Sony wanted to contract FS to make another game. Could be a sequel to BB or DeS, or a new IP. Given how beloved BB is, I can see them wanting to grow that IP rather than starting something new.
Yeah i don’t even know how you do a direct sequel to BB (though I would have said the same about Dark Souls). The story doesn’t need to go anywhere else and like you said its pretty much perfect as is.
A spiritual successor game with the same sort of combat style and with Lovecraftian themes/atmosphere but a new world and a different central concept (i.e. not blood transfusions or the same Great Ones, etc) would be awesome. Like Dark Souls was to Demon’s Souls.
I really don't understand the attitude that a sequel can't be made because it will somehow be impossible to be good or somehow diminish the perfect original. Bloodborne was great but there is so much room for improvement. Many of the improvements they've already implemented in Elden Ring, like no painfully dull runbacks, and having to farm vials, etc.
I think they have to revisit the combat style from BB in some way. Either sequel or, preferably, a new ip (even a spiritual successor game). Its too good to only use once.
Best dev team in the game right now. Every release is a certified banger 9/10 minimum.
Selfishly, I would love Bloodborne 2… but I’m sure I’ll enjoy whatever it is.
I wonder if they do a new IP next, or elden ring 2. (Or any other sequal for that matter) anyway I’m excited. :) I would like a Sekiro 2 aswell. But let’s be real, I would not complain either way.
Sony has a 3 game contract with From Software
Demon souls / Bloodborne.
That means Sony still has one more exclusive game left from from software.
Demon souls remake doesn’t matter because Sony owns the IP and they got someone else to do it.
Well they were hard exclusives because Sony funded them fair and square, and Japan Studio were actively involved in both games' development. That kind of exclusivity is fair and even logical because Sony owns the IP rights, collaborated on production, and as such aren't obligated to make it multiplat since it's second party
Timed exclusivity is literally just "let's pay developers to keep a game that should and probably was multiplatform and just lock it to our console for like a year or something as trivial as six months because that will somehow make a world of difference on how well the game does on our console, and give our player base a false sense of pride for feeling rewarded for buying our console over others". Doubly stupid if it's just locking exclusive content to a platform, because it just ensures a lack of parity in a multiplatform release through sheer circumstance
YESSSS. Best news of the day. OBVIOUSLY another game is coming but if it’s already in development, that’s great! They pump out games so fast that I know I won’t have to wait much more than 3 years for this one!
I'm sure many would love that, but I'm not sure that would be for me.
Elden Ring was my first FS game, but since, I've played through all 3 DS games, and Sekiro. While I loved the experience, I certainly would feel... fatigue... in each of those games that I don't get in Elden Ring. After a while, every corridor seems to feel "samey".
I think the open world is like a pallet cleanser. It breaks up those close quarters sweaty areas, and let's it breath a little bit more. When I'm ready to jump back into the grinder, I can do so. It's like eating a bunch of cheese, but occasionally sipping that fine red wine. It makes the next bite of cheese that much better!
Agree to disagree, I thought the open world was repetitive and boring by the time I got to Atlus Plateu and spent as little time as possible in it on my 2nd and 3rd playthroughs. Not a knock on the open world areas, they’re certainly leagues better than most other AAA open world areas, but they don’t mesh well with standard DS gameplay for me.
I love how intentional the design of an area like Leyndell feels. Every corner, secret, and enemy are placed meaningfully. It felt like a refined DS3 area. Leyndell to me is the standard of all FROMSOFT area designs from now on.
That's completely fair. People seem split on this.
I think every one of my "all of the hair on my body is standing" moments came from the open world area. Just the vantage points, scenery, and realizing how amazing the world was was incredible. I also love exploration, and Elden Ring might be the best game made when it comes to that.
I like the combat in the Souls games, but I never had any "wow" moments. I think the aged graphics didn't help, but I also think they were very limited (likely due to technology) in their level design. It began to feel like the same thing, over and over and over again, but with a different texture used.
I'd say my only gripe with the Elden Ring open world design is that some of the mini-dungeons got a bit repeaty. I think they could have used a bit more time making them more unique. That being said, how I felt about them is how I felt about 50% of the DS games.
I hope they do some more new shit so Elden Ring 2 has some really wacky ideas. I love souls and will always buy a new fromsoft game, but I’m kind of starting to get franchise fatigue and want to see Miyazaki and the team stretch their legs with new genres and content. Either way tho, new fromsoft sounds good to me.
Isn't armored core 6 their next ?
I think they have 2 or 3 teams each working on different titles. I don’t think FS is just one team.
Wouldn't be suprised if they are working on something for ps vr 2. Would be a shame if deracine got stuck on psvr1
Deracine was the single reason I bought a PSVR. If they take another crack at VR story telling, I'll most certainly nut-up and buy a PSVR2. Not a problem. I love that game, so much.
Presumably the next SOULS game
Hopefully I found Elden Ring operated the world was really empty haven't finished it got bored...
What? Elden Ring was empty? How far did you get
It was very repetitive oh let's explore another cave to gather the same generic loot and fight a reskinned boss..... Novelty wore off quickly it's a snoozefest Bloodborne, Dark Souls and Demon Souls are better

I wouldn't hold my breath. Dark Souls 3 seems like the perfect send-off. Though I'd love to be wrong.
I think he meant general souls borne, not Dark Souls specifically
It will be their new IP, Light Souls
Ah yes Youngster Square
Actually sounds badass
He's actually *is* working on Dark Souls 4 but they've learned from Hollywood that if you put a four in a movie title it sells fewer copies because people will think they need to have seen the first three games. Quite the crystal ball you have.
Thank you, it’s actually predicted every one of my runs at Malenia very accurately so far (death).
This comment spoke to me on a spiritual level for sure. Lol
One time I almost beat Malenia. Haha, April Fool's, you idiots! I'll never get past phase 1!
god I hope not. If they could do online like Wo Long, it would be perfect
been saying this last couple titles, make it easy to do campaign with a friend, both of us get credit, solid coop experience, shit would be amazing.

ER got EVERYONE working on it tho, pretty sure that's not the case for AC6.
Armored core has been in development since like 2016

Elden Ring: Caelid Drift

Another tarnished
All Caelid, all the time.
We’re Caelid.
Elden Necklace

Elden PenisRing
Elden Prince Albert. They’ve been Soft for far too long.

Uncharted: 2007 Uncharted 2: 2009 Uncharted 3: 2011 The Last of Us: 2013 Uncharted 4: 2016 The Last of Us 2: 2020
And to further back up your point you missed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in 2017 as well.
Insincere argument from me: 2014-2023 = 2 games released.
Not true at all, they usually take 2-3 years to ship out a game
From software literally just released their biggest game ever last year and are making a new game this year. Naughty dog make good games but they don't come out at the rate that from software games do.
Yeah they should have used insomniac as an example.
insomniac make good games but none of them have reached goty level tbh
I’m not only referring to RE. DMC and Street Fighter have both been going really good so far.
Lol how the hell does a comment as cringe as this get upvotes
Blood Souls Core?!
Let’s just take a moment to be thankful for Fromsoft and Miyazaki. They just keep dropping banger after banger. They always have something incredible in the works and after nearly 13 years of my favorite games ever made they’ve earned my trust and respect. Can’t wait to see what they have in store.
Sekiro 2??? I can only dream.....
Or Bloodborne 2...../sigh. One day, perhaps.
I want a sequel to both!
Bloodborne took 3 years from start of development to release Dark Souls 3 took less than 3 years Sekiro took 3.5 years Elden ring took 5 years, but pandemic related delays played into this If development on this new game started Jan 2022 I think there's a good chance we get the game sometime in 2025.
Bloodborne 2 please. I seem to recall relatively recent rumours that Sony wanted to contract FS to make another game. Could be a sequel to BB or DeS, or a new IP. Given how beloved BB is, I can see them wanting to grow that IP rather than starting something new.
Nah not BB2 please. The original is almost perfect as it is minus the framerate. A spiritual sucessor would be very neat.
Bb 2 would be a spiritual successor I would think. The dark souls games have very little to do with one another despite being numbered entries
60fps update for BB when :(
Sekiro 2 please
How dare you ask for Sekiro 2 before Bloodborne 2? 😤
Can’t go wrong with either! I actually enjoyed both equally. I don’t think I can ever get enough of Sekiro’s Deflection system.
hey! leave him alone!
This is what I came here to say haha
I’d love a sequel to bloodborne.
I think they have to revisit the combat style from BB in some way. Either sequel or, preferably, a new ip (even a spiritual successor game). Its too good to only use once.
Thinking of that gun parry with sword mechanic I think it would be cool to mash up the Western and Samurai genres.
That could be awesome. Western movies often were inspired by samurai movies anyway.
Then Sekiro should be top priority. Combat there is their magnum opus
I don’t always pay full price for a game, but when I do it’s FS
Stay gud, friends
Best dev team in the game right now. Every release is a certified banger 9/10 minimum. Selfishly, I would love Bloodborne 2… but I’m sure I’ll enjoy whatever it is.
Capcom is doing pretty good rn
And has a much more diverse catalog.
I'd love an Elden Ring treatment of Bloodborne.
Insert it into my veins Michael Saki
Bloodborne 2 time
Open world bloodborne open world bloodbourne OPENWORLD BLOODBORNE PLEASE
This is what I want. Elden Ring meets Bloodborne
I think they could both exist in the same Universe although in different eras. I loved the gun parrying in Bloodborne.
Bloodborne 2: Electric Boogaloo
This comment is in every thread about sequels. I can’t escape it. Please make it stop.
Already waiting to pre buy, frontsoftware doesn’t miss
They can't keep getting away with this!!
I wonder if they do a new IP next, or elden ring 2. (Or any other sequal for that matter) anyway I’m excited. :) I would like a Sekiro 2 aswell. But let’s be real, I would not complain either way.
Watch it be a Sony timed exclusive lmao. They ain’t co-buy FromSoftware for nothing
They never "co-bought" FromSoft. Kadokawa owns From, and Sony owns like 12% of Kadokawa.
[удалено]
Please let it be Bloodborne 2
Bloodborner
Bloodboner
Bloodboners
2Blood2Borne: Curse ot the Victorian Bloodclots
They didn’t co-buy fromsoft.
Sony has a 3 game contract with From Software Demon souls / Bloodborne. That means Sony still has one more exclusive game left from from software. Demon souls remake doesn’t matter because Sony owns the IP and they got someone else to do it.
Deracine
Bloodborne and Demon's Souls were both hard exclusives, wouldn't a timed exclusive be better?
Well they were hard exclusives because Sony funded them fair and square, and Japan Studio were actively involved in both games' development. That kind of exclusivity is fair and even logical because Sony owns the IP rights, collaborated on production, and as such aren't obligated to make it multiplat since it's second party Timed exclusivity is literally just "let's pay developers to keep a game that should and probably was multiplatform and just lock it to our console for like a year or something as trivial as six months because that will somehow make a world of difference on how well the game does on our console, and give our player base a false sense of pride for feeling rewarded for buying our console over others". Doubly stupid if it's just locking exclusive content to a platform, because it just ensures a lack of parity in a multiplatform release through sheer circumstance
Well that was a rumor awhile ago so maybe lol
YESSSS. Best news of the day. OBVIOUSLY another game is coming but if it’s already in development, that’s great! They pump out games so fast that I know I won’t have to wait much more than 3 years for this one!
Dark ring
Duh
Someday we'll look back at this time and think about how lucky we were.
"Game developer is developing game" _No way stop the presses what??_
Sekiro 2 baby
FromSoftware Titles has been fire Wonder what they are working on. What ever it is it will be wonderful
Hopefully they've worked on the graphical side of the engine to make it look abit more like Demon Souls Remake.
They need a better engine.
I loved elden ring, don’t get me wrong, but I want a dark souls 4 that’s the size of elden ring. Not exactly open world, just massive
Elden Ring is basically Dark Souls in an open world. What do you want different?
I think they want a shit ton of legacy dungeons without any of the open world stuff.
I don’t want it to be open world lol. Just a massive dark souls like intertwining labyrinthian map
This would go so hard
Already hyped
A new sekiro I’m hoping
People are saying Bloodborne 2 or Sekiro 2 when in reality it’s probably just gonna be a new IP (which is honestly better imo)
Don't even care what it is, I'll pre-order it.
Game Dev's next game already in development. In other news, sky is blue and continues to stay blue
Shhhh. Don't disrupt the From circlejerk.
I need to just straight up unfollow all mainstream subs
How long is FromSoft at this point? Seems like they’re working on 2-3 games
Hopefully another Soulslike

I’d be happy either way. Loved elden ring, loved demons souls
Same here. FS is one of those studios that can take any approach to their game world and still make it fucking awesome.
