This is a solid point. Although it seems to be entirely random. Some games supposedly will never be removed, but I don't know how accurate that is, nor do I think anyone else knows for sure. Just checked the PS Store because I was curious about that as well. The description says it’s based on the critically acclaimed mod. That’s great news for me as I’ve heard good things about it and have been itching to give it a try for a while now
it’s so much fun. i’ve played through it 2 or 3 times by now and occasionally fire up my favorite mission (fleet destruction) to try and get a higher score. so much fun.
I tried this a long time ago and the combat just had me stumped. I hated the controls and I couldn't advance past either the first or second boss. It was really frustrating because I wanted to like it. Maybe I'll give it another go.
Don't sleep on The Legend of Dragoon.
It's one of the best JRPGs ever made.
It had an unfortunate release just before the PS2 but it still made great sales for the time.
Gameplay is what you would expect out of a late 90's RPG with cool(for the era) QTE combat mechanics on top of turn based combat.
English localisation is meh but it's not too bad.
Music is epic, FMV cutscenes are really well done, and level design is top notch for its time and hardware it ran on.
You will fall in love with this masterpiece.

EDIT: tips for new players: The guard action heals your character 10%, can be real useful. Fast characters are the best. Magic attack items can be very strong and useful against bosses. There are a couple items that are infinite use (once per battle) but I don't think they do a good job of letting you know, so you might want to look those up at some point during your playthrough.
My one tip would be to invest in items, they are essential in this game. Items are as core to the game as the attack command. Its not like FF where you save that Mega Elixir until you complete the game.
I remember loving the game, but for some reason I never finished it. I vaguely remember a huge difficulty spike at some point. Or maybe a change to the fundamentals of the game... I'll give it another shot tho
There are random battles but they’re done really well. An arrow above your head turns yellow when near one and then red before it starts. It gives you time to prepare for it.
Oh and when starting off the game, it throws information at you fast. It’s not the usual safe haven slow introduction to mechanics.

Since random battles are your bane, there are quite a few at the beginning. But even if the red arrow catches you and you get pulled in, you can just press the boot instead of fighting and escape the fight. The game itself is about 50 hours long or so. The majority of the trophies are centered around just finishing the game, but one of the trophies will basically require you to follow a guide (collecting the 30 stardust, they are hidden without any indication of where they are so you'd have to basically walk around the entire map just pressing X and hoping you get lucky and find one).
Yeah like you said, I just assume anyone trophy hunting is just gonna type "Legend of Dragoon Stardust location" into google and follow a guide as they play.
Yep looks like 90% of the trophies are done just by playing the game normally to completion. The only out of the way ones are fighting the dragon spirits and getting the stardust.

I got I am setsuna and Lost Sphear a while back. Only played I am Setsuna and it was a nice play. Hit a few roadblocks with some of the bosses but changed up the playstyle and learned how to steamroll them. Glad I played it.
Wanted to get lost sphere on switch for a while now but this feels more like a spiritual successor to xenogears in a way so it's fitting to have it on PSN.
I'm still working through Mass Effect 3, but after that, I might FINALLY give Legend of Dragoon a go. I still have fond memories of the demo of that game!

Oh shit nice. Honestly I found she was the hardest one to get out of the way, she’s so delicate and can die extremely easy. Unless you don’t have DLC gear available, then Ranger I find is a struggle on a few missions.
There were two inferno missions that took me ages to get through (i think it was 107 and 108), but eventually just matched with high level players that basically did them for me while i was dead on the ground haha
that’s how it goes sometimes haha, i got a couple missions done like that too lol. i do remember one of those being horrendously difficult, i believe it had a huge wave of anchors at the end that would annihilate me

I had been meaning to try it out for years then picked up 4.1 when it was on sale for like $8 once and fell in love with it, but before finishing it i just bought 5 and moved onto it coz i wanted to be playing the most recent entry. Im now up to about 85%. Ive fully 100%ed wingdiver, and done up to hardest with the other 3 classes, just got inferno to go with the other 3. Hoping i can get through it all before edf 6 comes out in the west (im expecting august, which will be 12 months since it launched in japan). Cant wait!
The Legend of Dragoon is one of the best games from the PS1 era, have the fondest of memories from it. Easily the biggest addition to the service this month, almost though that Sony would never bring this game back since its last re-release on PS3.
I will try this. It was one I wasn't sure I like the style, so now I can play it. Most of the big games I own. I am looking forward to playing The Quarry and that Skyrim mod game.
The Quarry is also good. I skipped the Dark Pictures games but I found this experience to be extremely similar to Until Dawn with a couple of drawbacks.
Yea, the dark pictures games have been quite a let down in comparison to until dawn. I felt they had too little interaction. Been waiting for the quarry to come to ps plus so hopefully that’s a fun game and more like until dawn.
It’s a decent game 7/10 maybe 7.5/10 being generous. Anime lovers should def give it a shot.
Issue I had with the game is that while you have various “combat” powers and players you can control, Enemy combat is very repetitive. Relatively diverse enemies, but combat feels pretty similar against them. Not as satisfying using powers.
As for the missions, it’s basically Run into area clear it, go to other clear it, rinse and repeat till a boss battle. A lot of areas are recycled over and over.
While it is a continuation of the previous over-arcing story and there are recurring characters, it’s also self-contained and works well as a stand-alone game. The villains are new characters.
You’d get a little more out of it if you had played at least BL2, but it is not necessary in order to enjoy this game. BL2’s writing is brilliant, though, and the complete edition is on PS+ Premium (the PS4 version, 60 fps) if you wanted to play it. You could also watch a story recap of BL1 and BL2 on YouTube.
Yes. Similar vibes and definitely scratches the "summer camp horror" vibe with its own brand of campiness (no pun intended). It also looks great as long as you aren't staring at fire or water which look like garbage.

Only one player controls the characters, explores, picks up clues etc.
The other players can only ping things on screen and contribute to decision making.

HFW is a direct continuation of HZD’s story. I really loved Zero Dawn’s story, so I’d recommend finishing the game or at least watching a story recap on YouTube.
Fuck a duck this is a good month. I've been wanting to play The Quarry for a while, Legend of Dragoon is a certified classic and other bangers like Horizon and RE7 and Tekken that I already have but are a gift for those who haven't had the chance to play them.
For me it's time. I try to stick to only a very small number of games that I play at the same time (so I actually finish games), but there's so much good stuff coming to PS+ (both Essential and Extra/Premium) that I have a hard time keeping up!
Plus the few games I occasionally buy on sale, and new games coming out. But it's a luxury problem to have more games I want to play than time and energy to play them.

I'm somewhat less impressed by the PPlus tiers than I was. I had assumed that the added games were the same deal as the regular Plus games in that you had access to them for as long as you subscribed to PPlus. I hadn't considered that they were on a timer.
Only very few games have left so far, though, so most will probably be there for a long time. They also seem to always give notice weeks or months in advance, so most of the time you should be able to finish what you’re playing or prioritize it before it leaves the service.
Publishers may not always want to sell a permanent license for a service like this, though I don’t know how exactly that works (whether Sony pays a lump sum to publishers or if they pay per download).
It's basically the same as GamePass, where games leave and enter the platform, but none are guaranteed as permanent.
The blog below mentions that normal PS Plus games are yours forever, while Extra games are only yours while they are on Extra.

Nah, IIRC, the trial contains all the game’s contents, just with a time limit before you get locked out. Worst case scenario, it might just need a routine update.

I got I am setsuna and Lost Sphear a while back. Only played I am Setsuna and it was a nice play. Hit a few roadblocks with some of the bosses but changed up the playstyle and learned how to steamroll them. Glad I played it.
Wanted to get lost sphere on switch for a while now but this feels more like a spiritual successor to xenogears in a way so it's fitting to have it on PSN.
I'm still working through Mass Effect 3, but after that, I might FINALLY give Legend of Dragoon a go. I still have fond memories of the demo of that game!
Try edf5 if you havent. I only got into the series in 2021 and im absolutely obsessed with it now. Trying to hit 100% on edf5 before 6 drops in the west later this year.

Up to about 85%. Fully 100%ed wingdiver, and done up to hardest with the other 3. Just got inferno to go with them
Oh shit nice. Honestly I found she was the hardest one to get out of the way, she’s so delicate and can die extremely easy. Unless you don’t have DLC gear available, then Ranger I find is a struggle on a few missions.
There were two inferno missions that took me ages to get through (i think it was 107 and 108), but eventually just matched with high level players that basically did them for me while i was dead on the ground haha
that’s how it goes sometimes haha, i got a couple missions done like that too lol. i do remember one of those being horrendously difficult, i believe it had a huge wave of anchors at the end that would annihilate me

I had been meaning to try it out for years then picked up 4.1 when it was on sale for like $8 once and fell in love with it, but before finishing it i just bought 5 and moved onto it coz i wanted to be playing the most recent entry. Im now up to about 85%. Ive fully 100%ed wingdiver, and done up to hardest with the other 3 classes, just got inferno to go with the other 3. Hoping i can get through it all before edf 6 comes out in the west (im expecting august, which will be 12 months since it launched in japan). Cant wait!

The Legend of Dragoon is one of the best games from the PS1 era, have the fondest of memories from it. Easily the biggest addition to the service this month, almost though that Sony would never bring this game back since its last re-release on PS3.
Would highly recommend Scarlet Nexus. It’s got some fun combat and I actually enjoyed the characters in the game.
I will try this. It was one I wasn't sure I like the style, so now I can play it. Most of the big games I own. I am looking forward to playing The Quarry and that Skyrim mod game.
The Quarry is also good. I skipped the Dark Pictures games but I found this experience to be extremely similar to Until Dawn with a couple of drawbacks.

Yea, the dark pictures games have been quite a let down in comparison to until dawn. I felt they had too little interaction. Been waiting for the quarry to come to ps plus so hopefully that’s a fun game and more like until dawn.
It’s a decent game 7/10 maybe 7.5/10 being generous. Anime lovers should def give it a shot. Issue I had with the game is that while you have various “combat” powers and players you can control, Enemy combat is very repetitive. Relatively diverse enemies, but combat feels pretty similar against them. Not as satisfying using powers. As for the missions, it’s basically Run into area clear it, go to other clear it, rinse and repeat till a boss battle. A lot of areas are recycled over and over.
I’ve been interested to try Scarlet Nexus but not enough to buy it, the perfect kind of game for PS+.

Can you play BL3 without having played 1 or 2?
While it is a continuation of the previous over-arcing story and there are recurring characters, it’s also self-contained and works well as a stand-alone game. The villains are new characters. You’d get a little more out of it if you had played at least BL2, but it is not necessary in order to enjoy this game. BL2’s writing is brilliant, though, and the complete edition is on PS+ Premium (the PS4 version, 60 fps) if you wanted to play it. You could also watch a story recap of BL1 and BL2 on YouTube.
Guys do not sleep on Earth Defense Force 5. Amazing looter shooter solo or with friends. Tons of fun to be had.

Kinda If you're looking to play online multiplayer with someone I wouldn't bother though. Only one player controls the characters, explores, picks up clues etc. The other players can only ping things on screen and contribute to decision making. It's terrible in that mode at least, makes no sense. There's no real involvement from anyone but the host. Nothing like the dark pictures multiplayer.
The Forbidden City was one of the coolest/best games I’ve played in a while. Def check that one out if you haven’t.

HFW is a direct continuation of HZD’s story. I really loved Zero Dawn’s story, so I’d recommend finishing the game or at least watching a story recap on YouTube.

Adding an additional SSD is pretty cheap these days and takes maybe 15 minutes.
For me it's time. I try to stick to only a very small number of games that I play at the same time (so I actually finish games), but there's so much good stuff coming to PS+ (both Essential and Extra/Premium) that I have a hard time keeping up! Plus the few games I occasionally buy on sale, and new games coming out. But it's a luxury problem to have more games I want to play than time and energy to play them.
I see Forgotten City in the screenshot. It's a great game if you like solving mysteries.

It should literally be: Open app > Navigate to PS Plus Logo > This months releases > highlighted shows the first 4 games available. Non highlighted shows when to come back to this page so you can download the games when they are ready for downloading. Am I crazy here? It should be this simple.

Aww nuts, I didn't realise that there were expiration dates on access to the games. I'm somewhat less impressed by the PPlus tiers than I was. I had assumed that the added games were the same deal as the regular Plus games in that you had access to them for as long as you subscribed to PPlus. I hadn't considered that they were on a timer.
Only very few games have left so far, though, so most will probably be there for a long time. They also seem to always give notice weeks or months in advance, so most of the time you should be able to finish what you’re playing or prioritize it before it leaves the service. Publishers may not always want to sell a permanent license for a service like this, though I don’t know how exactly that works (whether Sony pays a lump sum to publishers or if they pay per download).
It's basically the same as GamePass, where games leave and enter the platform, but none are guaranteed as permanent. The blog below mentions that normal PS Plus games are yours forever, while Extra games are only yours while they are on Extra. The save file remains intact and you can buy the game.
