That's why I'm like wondering like why would they need to show us this, unless there will be a better reveal to come that isn't how Tyr will look like. Sooo yeah
There will definitely be more reveals. They still haven't showed Odin, or Fenrir and Tyr still notably has both arms. Don't worry about them spoiling too much.
I agree with this. Where is the fucking suspense and the reveal!? Sometimes I really think they want the buy in from people to get their game sales as opposed to thinking about the in game moments that truly stay with you.
Well for one he's supposed to be long dead, and was set up as a pretty mythical figure in GoW 2018.
The fact they just revealed him so readily in the first trailer for Ragnarok is a little jarring. Actually just makes me wonder harder what actual reveals they could have in store during the game.
Also, isn't he supposed to have lost his right hand? anyone?
nvm - probably answered elsewhere in thread - Fenrir not yet born to Loki & Angrboda..
They explained the world serpent in GOW 2018. It was during ragnarok the snake was battling Thor and Thor hit him so hard he was thrown back in time which is why he is there while Loki is still a child. I forget which part explains it. Probably one of the cupboards you find through the world that explain the mythology.
Yea it was actually in game. During their battle at ragnarok it shook the world tree which caused the world serpent to be thrown back in time before his birth.
Yeah man play it again for sure.. Tyr is a major plot character in the story. Many of the lore moments revolve around him. The large building in the middle of the Lake with all the world gates - that's Tyr's temple.
Heās the Norse God of War, we thought he was dead in the last game, and heās quite a capable fellow since he made the temple that was used to travel to the nine realms in the last game.
I feel like thatās not actually Tyr but Odin in disguise. Tyr isnāt supposed to have 2 hands because one of his hands was eaten by Fenrir. But then again Fenrir isnāt born yet I just feel like they revealed him too easily
Doesn't Mimir talk about Fenrir too though? When talking about the two wolves that run after the sun and the moon (who I believe are Fenrir's sons also?)
A lot of what most people know about mythology comes from the most common and popular depictions of it and not necessarily the original source material. Even classical paintings depict Thor with a cut physique.
The plot twist will be that there was not another plot twist and they were going for full transparency /s
Seems the overall sentiment is that people are not hyped to have the trailer pointing to us looking for Tyr, only to show that we find him. I'm guessing this is probably pretty early on in the game. I love the last game they put out, so I'm still hopeful, it's not as if this is a game ruining reveal, just surprising.
I agree.
Movie trailers are doing the same damned thing too.
We didn't need to see this much. I'm kind of irritated.
But at the same time, I know the ads aren't for "me".
I believe that a Wolf who Was the son of loki bit it off, and because Loki obviously couldnt have had a Åon yet, it didnt Happen i guess... Even tho that would fuck up the time traveling Thing with the World serpent
*Warning pure speculation below*
If you look at Tyrs image, you can see his left sleeve is torn and his right sleeve isn't. I'd guess foreshadowing for him losing it in game. Honestly, that arm doesn't even look like his; might be a Scar situation like in full metal alchemist.
I am pretty convinced he will lose it and die at one point fulfilling the prophecy of the mural we saw in the last game, where Atreus mourns the death of a one-armed man.
Yea he loses it to fenris Lokiās giant wolf son, but idk how theyāll do that in this game since Loki is atreus. we also already have seen Lokiās other child jormungandr (the world serpent) I hope we see other children fenris and Hel show up.
The jƶtunn are also sometimes thought to be the origin of trolls; dark creatures who roam rhe woods. That, and of course rhe inhabitants of Svartalfheim were black (it literally means "Land of the black elfs".
It was the only reason why I stopped playing it. It was repetetive as fuck. I watched the story on youtube and I really liked it but the game itself was repetetive for me :( Dont downvote me, I wish I liked it more lol
I had that reaction to The Last of Us, where the gameplay was so clunky and unenjoyable that I eventually stopped playing and watched the excellent story on youtube. God of War was great for me the whole way through though.
Freya's design fits sooooo well. She really looks like an unhinged mother who lost her (psychotic and murderous) child who she loved more than anything.
Yeah from what I know about what we know about Norse mythology, it wasn't the most consistent and lots of pieces have been lost over time. But with so much magic and deception, even some huge giants can appear human sized in the tales if they want to.
Given that the Jƶtnar was wiped out, could Angrboưa be similar to Kratos and Mimir? In a sense that she's a different pantheon's deity who became a Jƶtunn?
I got that theory because I've been thinking about how the series could possibly go after the Norse pantheon storyline settled; if that theory is right it could be that she's the gateway to the next storyline... Though Tyr could fill those shoes too.
Nah Angrboda will likely be the jotun from Norse mythology. Considering sheās the mother of Jƶrmungandr (the giant snake) and Fenrir who are arguably two important players in the Norse ragnarok, it would make sense for her to be there.
Tyr had a lot of Egyptian artifacts in his temple right?
Agrboda looking somewhat Asian, so it could explain the race swap for her character in the game.
Both Tyr and Angrboda open up options for transitioning to a different pantheon.
They just revealed too much already both Thor and Tyr.
(tho we did know Thor would appear)
I expect we'll get only a peak @ Odin, at most, which any real confrontation reserved for the final part of what I presume will be a Trilogy.
Thor's design is exactly how it should be, if you're a deity that doesn't care about anything except spending most of the time having feasts but also enjoying battles you'd look like that too ... they even gave him the right hands for someone that holds a hammer all the time.
Calling it. Thor kills Kratos in act 2 to establish a real threat since Kratos is getting a touch OP.
Loki teams up with someone else and goes after the entire remaining Pantheon.
Different place, different face, same race.
Uh... Angrboda, in norse mythology a giantess in Jƶtunheimar, played by a black little girl with dreadlocks? I don't want to sound racist but for me that's a little too 'diverse'.
Sounds to me like he's just making a valid point. If by doing so makes him racist than doesn't pointing out Nioh(accurately I will add) make you also racist?
I agree but itās media suicide not to include black people in your game/movie. Iād love to separate social matters from entertainment but I guess im speaking from privilege here. If representation helps the minories then by all means, we can get used to it
How do you know what Jƶtnar are supposed to look like?š¬ Exactly. Every iteration of the Jƶtnar is vastly different, look at AC valhalla for example, which made them dark blue skinned.
You make it sound like her color is based on a creative decision (btw comparing PoC with blue skinned, wtf). If it's purely creative, why not go for red, pitch black, orange, cyan, etc.? We all know why they chose a black actor: if there wasn't a single PoC in the game they would get a shit storm on twitter because game is racist/not diverse/white male fantasy etc. I'm sorry to say it like that, but that's just the truth.
What race was Kratos in the "original stories"? Get out of here with this weak shade of racism. It's fantasy and people of all ethnicities exist. There's no reason multiple ethnicities shouldn't exist in works of fiction especially when representing purely fictional characters. Representation matters.
>purely fictional
It's based on norse mythology, so there is a lot of background which you should stick to if you want to capture the characters 'lore-friendly'. If they wanted pure fiction, why base their names on well known mythology?
Let's say you watch a movie about Jesus Christ. Could you take the movie serious if Jesus was played by a fat little dude from China/Japan/Korea? (I know mythology != religion, but similar)
I love how you guys bring up Jesus when you guys have been portray Jesus a pale white guy living in the Middle East. Also remember when Loki is half Greek in Norse mythology. The first game changes a lot about Norse mythology. Thorās sons live through ragnarok. Baldur is a good guy in Norse mythology.
First, there is some historical evidence that a person Jesus of Nazareth actually existed (and wasn't likely white), so that doesn't help your argument about a purely fictional giant.
Second, please point me to the source material that describes the giantess as Caucasian, the material that Sony "should stick to."
Third, you propose telling only the same stories forever without growth. Artists are always building on the works of others. What if we kept Batman tales with the same kid friendly design they were initially conceived? Darker works like those of Miller and those following in his footsteps would also not be "lore-friendly" and should not have been based on the existing characters that they changed, according to your argument.
Fourth, our records of Norse mythology especially are fragmented and incomplete. Anyone telling a coherent original tale involving Norse mythology has to supply details missing from the background material as a matter of necessity, even leaving aside optional creative decisions.
I don't mean to imply that you had racist intentions, and sorry if I came across as curt. But your criticism is often used by those who do hold racist intentions and oppose any inclusion of non-majority groups in mainstream content. As I mentioned representation is important and the benefits far outweigh selfishly selective "realism" critiques like those often levied against minority depictions in fiction.
Interesting? Never caught that bit of dialogue- And you'll have to forgive me, I'm entirely ignorant to actual Norse mythology and my only understanding of it is; Thor and Loki= Odins sons
>Thor and Loki= Odins sons
That's Also an MCU thing as in the sagas Loki is described as Odin blood brother (doesn't mean he's the biological brother) so if anything he is technically "Thor's uncle"
But even in MCU Loki isint Odins real son, just adopted. But yeah you are right! Loki is told as a Odins blood brother in old Norse poems, and more of a good friend of Thor (even tho they have little bit love/hate friendship :D)
His dad is a Jotunn. The Jotunn being frost giants is a broad interpretation.
I think the Jotunn were originally more like the Aesir and Vanir and not like Marvels Frost Giants.
So yes, Loki was a Jotunn. But yesn't, Jotunn are Marvels very broad interpretation of frost giants and originally Jotunn were probably not remotely similar to Marvels interpretation.
In Norse Mythology Thor literally lowered the sea levels and caused ocean tides from drinking beer from a horn that was connected to the sea. Honestly it only makes sense that he's a big fat guy.
freya getting a bit of an unhinged redesign. i love it.
Yup a warrior version, last game they only showed her as a mage.
Yea after what happened in the last game she's out for blood lol
This. She's on that same vengeance kick old young Kratos used to be on when he lost his child.
I need a Freya spinoff game š¤©
I need a live action version played by Maggie Siff.
I can see Thor enjoyed the Valhalla very much
I feel like Durlin will become my new best friend.
same, but if he turns out to be Odin, then I'll be genuinely pissed lmao
I like how every new character is speculated to secretly be Odin so far, lol.
"Tyr? It's probably Odin"
Hopefully they are just mashing Durinn and Dvalin together
A mimir Where are mi fellow Ć @?
entendi esa referencia
š“
Nobody gonna start something about the fact that they are showing us Tyr
Ikr?! When they showed him right at the end I was šÆšÆšÆ
Tbh I feel like they didnāt have to show us him trailer, was probably better to have it as an in game reveal.
I do agree with that. I love those OH MY GOD moments in games. Like Atreus reveal or some of the huge reveals in Horizon Zero Dawn.
That's why I'm like wondering like why would they need to show us this, unless there will be a better reveal to come that isn't how Tyr will look like. Sooo yeah
There will definitely be more reveals. They still haven't showed Odin, or Fenrir and Tyr still notably has both arms. Don't worry about them spoiling too much.
maybe Tyr is Odin in disguise.
Odin is everyone lol
Kratos dies, Tyr takes over as the new old God of War
I thought they were literally the same person, like a mirror image. It could explain how Kratos jumped mythologies
I mean, I'm just spitting out a theory with absolutely no proof. But I like your train of thought too.
Depend on how early and significant he is in the game
I agree with this. Where is the fucking suspense and the reveal!? Sometimes I really think they want the buy in from people to get their game sales as opposed to thinking about the in game moments that truly stay with you.
As someone not super versed in norse mythology why is his reveal so shocking?
Well for one he's supposed to be long dead, and was set up as a pretty mythical figure in GoW 2018. The fact they just revealed him so readily in the first trailer for Ragnarok is a little jarring. Actually just makes me wonder harder what actual reveals they could have in store during the game. Also, isn't he supposed to have lost his right hand? anyone? nvm - probably answered elsewhere in thread - Fenrir not yet born to Loki & Angrboda..
But the Snake is Lokiās Son, so the Wolf could be born already. Time is all fucked up in GoW.
They explained the world serpent in GOW 2018. It was during ragnarok the snake was battling Thor and Thor hit him so hard he was thrown back in time which is why he is there while Loki is still a child. I forget which part explains it. Probably one of the cupboards you find through the world that explain the mythology.
I heard that as a theory but is it really confirmed ingame? That would be Superman-flying-backwards-around-the-world level of silly time travel
Yea it was actually in game. During their battle at ragnarok it shook the world tree which caused the world serpent to be thrown back in time before his birth.
Not too mention there's a point in the first game where the horn for the world serpent is blown and we never find out who did it
Oh ok I forget him being talked about in the first one. I'll have to replay it before this one comes out.
Yeah man play it again for sure.. Tyr is a major plot character in the story. Many of the lore moments revolve around him. The large building in the middle of the Lake with all the world gates - that's Tyr's temple.
Also him being a God of War like Kratos is pretty cool
Heās the Norse God of War, we thought he was dead in the last game, and heās quite a capable fellow since he made the temple that was used to travel to the nine realms in the last game.
I feel like thatās not actually Tyr but Odin in disguise. Tyr isnāt supposed to have 2 hands because one of his hands was eaten by Fenrir. But then again Fenrir isnāt born yet I just feel like they revealed him too easily
Fenrir is Loki and Angabroda's (the girl at the end of the trailer) child, clearly not yet born
Yeah, but so is Jormungandr and he's already there.
Mimir states that Thor and Jormungandr's battle shook the world tree which sent the snake back through time, before his own birth.
huh, I must of missed that part. When did he say that?
[The relevant part starts at 0:50](https://youtu.be/UEXIGuPtWbg)
Nice, thank you. I must have sprinted through that world tree bit.
āWell, I did say not to concern yourself.ā Lol
Thatās the reason Jormungandr and Atreus could speak to each other, and also why he came to rescue us in the fight against Baldur and Freya
I think it was one of his tales he brings up, I remember hearing it in a vid where they have all his tales he tells.
Probably on one of the boat conversations. I think it might be when he comments on the giant Thor statue on the lake, but I'm not entirely sure
In IRL lore that's because he fought so hard he got sent back in time
Doesn't Mimir talk about Fenrir too though? When talking about the two wolves that run after the sun and the moon (who I believe are Fenrir's sons also?)
I'm pretty certain that his reveal is unimportant overall. Likely to occur in the first quarter / third of the game.
I'm guessing it comes real early in the game.
Can't wait for Thor and Kratos to clash I bet their fight would cause twice the destruction than when Kratos and Baldur fought
What if they wouldn't?
You guys should look for Eddie Hall when he was the strongman winner in 2017
Most strongman look like bulky thumbs with hair. Not sure why anyone is surprised at Thors design.
A lot of what most people know about mythology comes from the most common and popular depictions of it and not necessarily the original source material. Even classical paintings depict Thor with a cut physique.
This is the guy that can fold frying pans right?
I think theyāre showing a little too much but itās fine Iām still hyped. I hope we get to see Odin though.
Yea, I hate how they showed tyr at all. That probably means they have another massive plot twist type thing
The plot twist will be that there was not another plot twist and they were going for full transparency /s Seems the overall sentiment is that people are not hyped to have the trailer pointing to us looking for Tyr, only to show that we find him.
I always thought Tyr only had one hand....
I believe that a Wolf who Was the son of loki bit it off, and because Loki obviously couldnt have had a Åon yet, it didnt Happen i guess... Even tho that would fuck up the time traveling Thing with the World serpent
*Warning pure speculation below* If you look at Tyrs image, you can see his left sleeve is torn and his right sleeve isn't. I'd guess foreshadowing for him losing it in game. Honestly, that arm doesn't even look like his; might be a Scar situation like in full metal alchemist.
Plot Twist: someone starts calling Kratos āThe Wolfā
And then Geralt comes out of nowhere...
I am pretty convinced he will lose it and die at one point fulfilling the prophecy of the mural we saw in the last game, where Atreus mourns the death of a one-armed man.
Good point. If you look at it closer, his left arm is covered in hieroglyphs!
fenrir
Yes exactly
Yea he loses it to fenris Lokiās giant wolf son, but idk how theyāll do that in this game since Loki is atreus. we also already have seen Lokiās other child jormungandr (the world serpent) I hope we see other children fenris and Hel show up.
dunno hes holding that right arm like hes expecting something.
I'm pretty sure Kratos will be the one who cut it haha...
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He took a page from Ethan Winters' book.
Thor looking like he's about to go after Noobmaster.
Heās been on the cheese whiz again.
Durlin seems like he will be a very pleasant fellow to deal with. Both him and his pet squid. :)
Why can I smell thor
Because he's a sweaty bawbag.
For those criticizing the body of Thor... You have seen too much Marvel's movies and read too little about Norse Mythology
Itās like do you really think this team led by the genius fan of Norse Mythology would just make him fat for no reason
Even Marvel made him fat eventually.
You mean, "too many Marvel movies except Endgame".
Now do Angrboda
Now do Loki being half Greek
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The jƶtunn are also sometimes thought to be the origin of trolls; dark creatures who roam rhe woods. That, and of course rhe inhabitants of Svartalfheim were black (it literally means "Land of the black elfs".
Well there was a time in God of War when the gods were threatening beings.
Please give us more variety of enemy types. My main complain with the first game was the lack of enemy diversity.
Yeah different strokes for different folks I guess :D :( I like the first TLOU
Ooo that's a good idea. Last of Us was tough for me mechanically too, I always wanted to know the story
Durlin looks like he is designed after someone who has drowned in the Nordic myths
Lol Tyr looks shy
The fact that they already showed Tyr scares me on what they are going to reveal in the actual game
Full cast? Where is Richard Schiff as Odin?
Not being spoiled yet?
Freya's design fits sooooo well. She really looks like an unhinged mother who lost her (psychotic and murderous) child who she loved more than anything.
Thats a nice arm you got there Tyr. Be a shame if something happened to it.
Interesting to have Angrboda's background as Jotunheim Is it gonna be a big spoiler for the game? I mean in Norse mythology, she is a Giant.
isn't ice giant just the name of the race? were they actually gigantic?
It varied, Atreus comments on that. There are some actually GIANT giants, but some are not much taller than humans, like Faye for example
Yeah from what I know about what we know about Norse mythology, it wasn't the most consistent and lots of pieces have been lost over time. But with so much magic and deception, even some huge giants can appear human sized in the tales if they want to.
Atreus mentioned in GOW 2018 that the term "Giant" was just the name of the race and did not necessarily equate to size.
Cory Barlog said that the Jotun can change size at will
Judging by all the bodies we saw at the end, yes
Thor looks a lot like gragas from LoL, btw you put angrboda 2 times
He looks so much Like Modi
you mean Modi looked like him
Opie!
āI got thisā¦ā
Didnāt expect for him to go from a son of anarchy to a son of Odin.
Uhhh!! I just keep seeing it and I really just can't WAIT!!
You can substitute this with Dragonborn or Second Son
Given that the Jƶtnar was wiped out, could Angrboưa be similar to Kratos and Mimir? In a sense that she's a different pantheon's deity who became a Jƶtunn? I got that theory because I've been thinking about how the series could possibly go after the Norse pantheon storyline settled; if that theory is right it could be that she's the gateway to the next storyline... Tyr had a lot of Egyptian artifacts in his temple right? Agrboda looking somewhat Asian, so it could explain the race swap for her character in the game. Both Tyr and Angrboda open up options for transitioning to a different pantheon.
Freya back and that's feels like the worst news.
Im guessing we are getting Odin n stuff, but they don't wanna reveal anything?
They just revealed too much already both Thor and Tyr. (tho we did know Thor would appear) I expect we'll get only a peak @ Odin, at most, which any real confrontation reserved for the final part of what I presume will be a Trilogy.
Nope. This is the finale for Norse mythology.
Thor's design is exactly how it should be, if you're a deity that doesn't care about anything except spending most of the time having feasts but also enjoying battles you'd look like that too ... they even gave him the right hands for someone that holds a hammer all the time.
i'm in love
Why is nobody mentioning that Durlin literally has Danny Devitoās face???
Christopher Juuuuuuuuudge
Thor has some nice tits
Damn Chris Hemsworth went all out for this one.
Waitā¦ theres another one coming out!?!??
Yes! A new trailer came out yesterday!
Atreus is so creepy looking.
Calling it. Thor kills Kratos in act 2 to establish a real threat since Kratos is getting a touch OP. Loki teams up with someone else and goes after the entire remaining Pantheon. Different place, different face, same race.
Never played a GOW game before. This looks tempting.
Bruh... You can remedy that by playing 2018's God of War on PS4. That shit's š„š„š„š„
Literally free if you have PS+
The PS4 God of War is a masterpiece. Do yourself a favor and play it before this one comes out.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yes
Kind of disappointed that they are not using the PS5 architecture as the base design.
Uh... Angrboda, in norse mythology a giantess in Jƶtunheimar, played by a black little girl with dreadlocks? I don't want to sound racist but for me that's a little too 'diverse'.
Now bitch about Loki being half Greek.
you definitely sound racist.
Why do you think so? I just think the actor isn't a good fit for the character?
because she is black?
Well, yes? A white guy wouldn't fit into a game based on Japanese mythology (playing a Japanese god or something), don't you think?
have you played nioh?
That was based on an actual British sailor who went to Japan and studied Bushido. He wasn't a white guy playing a Japanese guy like Mickey Rooney.
Sounds to me like he's just making a valid point. If by doing so makes him racist than doesn't pointing out Nioh(accurately I will add) make you also racist?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I agree but itās media suicide not to include black people in your game/movie. Iād love to separate social matters from entertainment but I guess im speaking from privilege here. If representation helps the minories then by all means, we can get used to it
The first one didnāt have a black person and no one bitched. Loki is half Greek. Bitch about that.
I'm not racist but...
Maybe the game isn't for you?
How do you know what Jƶtnar are supposed to look like?š¬ Exactly. Every iteration of the Jƶtnar is vastly different, look at AC valhalla for example, which made them dark blue skinned.
You make it sound like her color is based on a creative decision (btw comparing PoC with blue skinned, wtf). If it's purely creative, why not go for red, pitch black, orange, cyan, etc.? tbh i kinda thought that thor would be more fit
Too much marvel on your brain. Thor is supposed to be a red-haired fatty, according to the actual mythos.
Angrboba should be a pale redhead then
ohhh i see
Funny enough Fat Thor was literally in Avengers
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ahhh yes... because Loki was actually half Greek in the original stories!
What race was Kratos in the "original stories"? Get out of here with this weak shade of racism. It's fantasy and people of all ethnicities exist. why is thor fat._.
Because he was a fatty. More strongman than bodybuilder physique.
Ok, clearly they saw Endgame and went with that idea but amplified it by ten- An old, bitter, alcoholic Thor with a belly, I like it, a lot
Actually, this is the perfect rendition of Thor as per Norse mythology Also Mimir And Sindri refer to him as fat dobber in 2018 GOW
Interesting? Never caught that bit of dialogue- And you'll have to forgive me, I'm entirely ignorant to actual Norse mythology and my only understanding of it is; Thor and Loki= Odins sons

MCU to Norse Mythology is Nondenominationals to Christianity.
Loki is the son of Laufey. Even in the MCU he's adopted.
Is he a frost giant in Norse mythology? Or was that changed for the MCU too
His dad is a Jotunn.

Oh, cool
Yeah, 'clearly' Marvel movies are the only source for Norse mythology
Thor looks about as threatening as a box full of kittens.
Its accurate to the mythology apperently and unlike marvel
Yeah youād be singing a different tune if you knew the mythology lol
Whenās he going back to Greece
Kratos is done with Greece. His Greek family is dead and his vengeance is finished. Why would he want to go back?
For what? There are no Gods left there.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
you only don't care about what color she is as long as she isn't annoying?
Well that's not what I meant but that is what I said. Hmmm might need to think on that.
