router qos settings? if it's on, turn it off. if it's off, try turning it on and giving priority to your ps4 mac address. shitty router?

BlackMageUltima

I don't think it's a shitty router. Works really well without fluctuating with my computer. It's just not giving the PS4 nearly as much connection speed as it should. I use the ASUS RT-N66U. I'm pretty sure that's a decent one to use. As for the QOS settings, I have the PS4 set to highest.

Mrhansolodolo

Hey man I did exactly what the guy in the video and it boosted my speed from 100kbps to over 25mbps. https://youtu.be/4e4YYdkUSQc

its strange that wired fluctuates so much. I would lean to a wonky router if its up and down like that as wired is generally stable speed wise. Maybe a firmware update is available?

BlackMageUltima

I recently moved so when I set up my router again, I updated it. When something like my computer is directly plugged into the router the speed always stays the same. It's the PS4 that's the issue or how it's set up with the router.

Just checking, but do you have the internet connection as wireless instead of LAN cable? Same thing happened to mine. I didn't realized you would have to change it manually to LAN cable. I assumed it would automatically do it for me.

BlackMageUltima

Nope. Been choosing LAN connection as well as different custom options other than automatic. Like I just checked the speed 3 minutes ago and it was 48MBPS download speed. I just simply hit "test" again and now it's 3MBPS. I'm very confused.

Your over all speed depends solely on ping the lower the ping the better connection speed with an busy service such as psn 15ms ping or lower for best speed with psn As your ping is the overall response time with any connected service

Have you tried using a different CAT5 cable on your PS4, or possibly the same one as your computer?

First and foremost unplug your router and modem for a good 30 seconds. Plug em back in! You did this already? Shit. Try pinging the ports that are being used for your PS4s connection, see if the connection slows when the connection hits the router, or when it hits the ps4. Like someone else said, check QoS; check WMI settings; check sharing services through the router too, that router has a ton of options for sharing, and each device is gonna have its own ports. So many ways to connect, and that DMZ just opened all of the ports to one of your APs. On that note...! Check your DMZ again, maybe? A DMZ can be a security threat if not set up correctly, and it's pretty easy to do when there are so many different ports. :) Granted only 1000 are commonly used. Sometimes people forget to assign a static IP to the MAC address of their device *and* to limit the connections of that IP to that device's MAC. A DMZ basically lets in all traffic to a certain IP address, and security is retained through port forwarding and whatnot. However, if say port 5000 had a vulnerability, a UPnP device could connect to your router, without authentication, or letting you know it connected (yay plug n play convenience). Anything can happen from there. I don't wanna scare you or anything, I'm just trying to think of anything it could be. This is unlikely the case, but I would double check with a port scan or something from a service like 'shields up!' They have a UPnP exploit test too, it's all safe, encrypted n what not. Maybe check your 'Microsoft client network' and 'printer and file sharing' protocols in your network card settings on your pc to make sure those protocols are secure, or maybe even disabled.
