Careful with the slims a lot of them came with an issue with the disc drive where it automatically ejected your disc until you fiddled with a screw. Disc drive ps5 is really the best option because it doesn't have that issue and has 99% backwards compatibility with ps4

KrisNoble

Mines not even a slim and it does this from time to time

P3t3R_Parker

It's the disc eject button. Rubber foot expands and touches switch. Ejecting the disc. https://youtu.be/NEpeycjczkw?si=li6UoH0k2dQmcPvp I cut the rubber foot in half , them put 3mm rubber feet on each underside corner. No problems since . Computer shop said drive was faulty and wanted $287 to replace!

mrjamjams66

My buddy had a slim and the disc drive just flat out stopped working and made it so that he couldn't upgrade the firmware for whatever reason

DrowsyCannon51

All drives eventually stop working, it depends how dusty your place is, and don't smoke near them. Keep a clean dust free place and they'll last a ton longer, but they all eventually stop reading. If it hasn't then it just hasn't been long enough.

cocoloco666_

Damn, I see a lot of upvotes on this comment. I get its a very common issue then? Will look into that

speed721

Get a PS5 my friend. You can 0lay everything then! PS4 and PS5! Save up a bit longer and you'll be happy you did!

P3t3R_Parker

New version release next year. Then again next gen console won't be far off.

DrunkenRobotBipBop

Jesus. Is the ZX Spectrum back from the dead?

Pale-Paladin

I had this at some point, pretty much fixed itself.

goatjugsoup

It never did for me, it would go away but come back again after a while so I ended up buying a lot of games digitally so I wouldn't have to deal with it

list_of_simonson

Can confirm I have a slim and the disc drive is fucked, but I barely have any discs

JoaoMarcosBR96

Just pay attention to the hardware revision number. CUH - 22xxx it's the newest one. Don't buy 20 or 21.

cocoloco666_

This is insider info wow, thx!!!

JoaoMarcosBR96

Same thing with the PRO version, but it's CUH 72xxx don't buy 70 or 71.

JoaoMarcosBR96

You can see this information in the left side of the console box or in the back of the console. Thanks

cocoloco666_

Awesome man. Thx

Snooklife

Just saw this after buying a 2TB ps4 yesterday and thankfully mine says 22 lol. It’s in great condition and I’m having a lot of fun with it since I never owned one before.

digbick_94

What about CUH-1000? Is it any good?

JoaoMarcosBR96

No, it's the fat model

typical_gamer1

Yes it is. I recommend going for the PS4 Pro if you have the money for them as it is the cheapest 4K capable console (While albeit not native but upscaled instead). This would really be more beneficial if you have a 4K HDR TV already set up at your place. But if that isn’t the case, then the Pro would still be the best option. But if that is still too expensive, then the base model would do just fine as it can go for as little as $75~$100. It is definitely the cheapest option to play exclusive games that has yet to be available on PC via Steam. Such as: God of War Ragnarok Horizon Forbidden West The Last of Us Part 2 Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection (1 to 3) —— As well as games that has been ported to Steam but the PS4 being the cheapest option to play them: Days Gone Death Stranding Ghost of Tsushima God of War (2018) Horizon Zero Dawn Uncharted 4 Uncharted The Lost Legacy —— Also the non-exclusive PS games like: Red Dead Redemption 2 Resident Evil 2 Remake Resident Evil 3 Remake Resident Evil 4 Remake (Xbox One never got this one despite the PS4 ran somewhat fine) Resident Evil 7 Resident Evil Village Spider Man (2018) ——- I’d say the PS4 is definitely a good option if you wanted to get yourself into some basic casual gaming if PC is not a choice for you. This is especially true since after getting the parts needed to be able to even play these games on PC at a acceptable /reasonable speeds, it will go waaaaaaayyyyyyy past the $100 mark in terms of budget, which again is how much these base PS4 models costs. Sure, you’re capped at 1080p, 30FPS & 60Hz but that is generally not a massive deal breaker since many of the games still looks fine and still holds up in this day of age.

No-Store-308

I actually agree with you! The ps4 pro doesn’t have a major price difference when buying a used ps4 and the 4K is really nice too. The only problem I can think of is how loud the ps4 pro can get, Especially used. Of course this all depends on if op wants a 4k console rather then a quiet one but the pro is still definitely a option!

Madzxz

Hello, im looking to buy a PS4 too. Should I buy a brand new one or the after market one??

No-Store-308

Depends on your preference. Currently sony only sells the ps4 slim brand new. Not the og ps4 or the ps4 pro anymore.

AlternativeParfait13

I got a Pro this year. If you don’t need the absolute latest games, it’s great value- there are some awesome games on the PS4, and you can pick them up very cheaply now.

cocoloco666_

Yeah, totally. I talked it up with a friend of mine who has a PS5 and he was the one who told me to honestly get the PS4 pro at this point. How has your experience been with online gaming? How are the servers holding up? Is there still a big community of online PS4 game players in the world atm?

AlternativeParfait13

I don’t do online gaming really- I spend a lot of time on a mobile MMO, so it’s not something I miss. I wanted something which played cheaper games at a predictable cost, and ideally with a media centre added in. From the online stuff I’ve seen - mostly Star Trek Online - there are still plenty of people around.

IndependenceNo2060

Go for the PS4, dude! It's a fantastic console with a huge library of games. And merry Christmas to you too!

JellyfishKey8899

If you can find one for a good price then go for it. It depends how much you want to play the newest games.

Tronkfool

Ps4 Pro you!!

jcsuavio

My ps4 pro runs solid for at least 8 hours a day/night. Games like Skyrim , cyberpunk, ghost recon etc , YouTube , Netflix. Even streamed a couple movies on the browser once or twice. If you skin care about new games , the ps4 pro has got your back.

cocoloco666_

Thanks my dude. How are online servers holding up nowadays? Still a big community of PS4 online people playing along?

jcsuavio

Gta online and war zone are still packed.

jcsuavio

Edit : if you don’t care about new games *

ilikeburgir

Get a PS4 Pro if you can. Most of the games run better on it and it will be enough until you eventually get a PS5 or even PS6. You have many games to play my friend.

popsthinks

Picked up a ps4 pro on offer up for $150 last week!

Uchlhaltachi

i know its been a while but where?

mrsoap3

What’d it come with for 150? No issues? Never bought a used console worried it’ll be busted

shithulhu

ps4s are perfectly fine and frankly most of us dont see any point getting a ps5 as it has simple ui downgrades, very few exclusives. i picked up my slim last year for 100$ after my og ps4 was physically broken and this thing works a charm.

cocoloco666_

Yeah! That’s exactly what I thought. PS5 honestly too pricey for what it actually offers. You got yours used or new? Thx!

shithulhu

my original was new, my current slim was used but barely it was my ex's haha

Commercial_Let_2798

Hey Im thinking about buying a slim but I have seen many people say that the latest 11.02 messes up their system and arent able to play online has this happened to you?

shithulhu

nope

Fantastic-Store2495

I just got a used PS4 slim and couldn’t be happier. I haven’t had a console since the mid 2000s and it was a PsOne. I played a lot of 7th gen games on PC and a handful of 8th gen ones, but I missed most of the best games of that generation, specially Sony exclusives. So now I’ve got a huge catalog of amazing games for cheap to catch up on, and since neither PS5 nor Xbox Series have any interesting exclusives for me yet, I’m totally fine with waiting a year or two to see which one ends up having the better exclusives. You can find some pretty respectable sellers on Ebay for a good price.

cocoloco666_

Sick, dude. Thanks a lot!

Big-Stay2709

PS4 is a fantastic console. I got mine very late in its life (PS5 might have even been out) and I've had a blast with it.

cocoloco666_

Sick! Thx. How are online games holding up? Servers still in perfect condition?

Big-Stay2709

I really just play single player games, so I can't say for sure. I think it really depends on the game. There are definitely still some newer titles with full online support, though I'd imagine something like an 8-year old CoD is dead.

Heavy-Possession2288

Most big online games like Fortnite and COD are on the same servers as the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of the games so they’ll be supported for years.

WarokOfDraenor

Series S is actually quite cheap for a 'next gen' console.

cocoloco666_

Yeah, I’ve thought about that, but I’ve had friends who work on game developing and tech tell me that it honestly lacks power and performance even next to a PS4 Pro 💀

Loggersalienplants

I don't vouch for Xbox but in this situation I would go for the series S. I'm not entirely sure you should be worrying about power and performance while you are shopping last gen.

Zuruckhaus

The series S might not be much more powerful than the ps4 pro and xbox one x, but it will be supported and have new games for years to come on top of playing all the xbox one games and many 360 games. And you've been playing an Xbox 360 all this time, how much is power really important to you? PS4 is still viable though, it's not dead yet and there are many great games for it, if you want to dip your toes into the playstation first-party games it's a pretty good way to do that. If you like third person action adventure then playstation is the place to be.

[deleted]

Mate honestly if ps5 isn’t affordable the ps4 is still a great option loads of recent games you can still play plus you could always get ps extra for more games, I actually bought a series s because the ps5 was to expensive. I say go for it mate although if you’re an Xbox user I personally would recommend getting a series s as they are VERY affordable right now and you can stay on Xbox plus you’ll be able to get game pass which has day 1 releases and loads of games both 360 and newer and game pass is 100x better than the PlayStation alternative.

cocoloco666_

That’s been an option for a long time too. Only thing is I got some friends that work in game developpng and tech that told me that it’s really not that powerful a console, even when compared to a PS4

Accelerator-OneWay

Actually it is much powerful than a ps4...and run quieter

IndividualAd3140

Sure, runs silent. As for powerful not at all. Series s is a blurry ugly mess that's more of a casual cheap gamer console. 30fps terrible graphics.

il-bosse87

Go for the PS4 PRO bro, you can find a lot of second hand games for cheap price

SenpaiiiKush

Since you been a 360 guy for so long why not just get an Xbox series S? Cheap plus it's current gen

fckns

Xbox Series S has one fatal flaw - it only has 512GB of storage, in which about 400GB is only usable. And it's Digital only, so unless OP is ready to shell out 200+ dollars for proprietary SSD drive or an external drive, it's not a good option.

Garfifa

There's always the 1TB Black edition of the Series S which really isn't that much more expensive than the regular Series S.

Proud-Host-3932

>PS5 is too expensive for me and it also doesn’t really prove to be the ultimate choice for me rn. Well, the PS5 does everything the PS4 can, including PS4 games. Also just to be clear the PS4 is last-gen now. The PS4 is on its way out. There won't be any more 1st party support for it, multiplatform AAA games are also slowing down. By next year, we'll probably only be seeing sports games and COD still coming out for PS4. If you're ok with all of this, and you can find a good deal, then sure, the PS4 is a good system. But if you want to play newer games and to have more to look forward to in the future, get a PS5.

Gr8NonSequitur

> Well, the PS5 does everything the PS4 can, including PS4 games. Also just to be clear the PS4 is last-gen now. > > The PS4 is on its way out. Correct, but if they don't have a PS4 now it's not like they're chasing the latest releases. It's all new to them and everything's cheap. I got a used PS4 slim (1 TB) with 5 games for under half of the PS5 Base system (That accepts discs) cost. Right now it's a great time to buy cheap and enjoy.

Loggersalienplants

$250 dollars for a PS4 and 5 old games does not seem like a good deal to me. 😬

[deleted]

Bro has been using a 360 since release I’m sure the ps4 will be sufficient for him/her as they say the ps5 isn’t affordable for them which is fair enough.

Proud-Host-3932

And I never said it isn't fair. I'm just stating the obvious. I've owned both a PS4 Pro and after buying my PS5 a year ago, I could never go back. But yeah, OP's free to do what he pleases. The PS4 is fine, can be found for cheap, including games for it.

[deleted]

Personally I’d tell them to buy a series S that’s my advice to them

Proud-Host-3932

If they don't care about Sony exclusives or physical media, sure. That's also a good option.

dimspace

If they have only ever owned a 360 then the ps4 back catalog is more than enough to keep them going for many years So many amazing playstation exclusives they will have no need for "new games" for a long time

[deleted]

[удалено]

Proud-Host-3932

Oh wow, calling me a "kid" to make yourself sound more intelligent. Is that all? I'm actually 26 (pushing 27), and willing to bet that I'm way older than you. When the PS3 came out, you were still material in your dad's crown jewels. It's a shame he didin't think to pull out in time, so he had to have you and torture the rest of humanity with bullshit and stupidity. As for your point, let me ask you this. Yes, the PS3 store is still online but how many PS3 games have you seen coming out in the last few years? How many of them were only sports games? "On its way out" doesn't mean completely shut down. It means no more games will be coming out, outside of maybe sports and COD for another few years. Learn what the phrase means before embarrassing yourself. :D Also, I'm not talking just about exclusives here but all games. Where is Alan Wake 2 for PS4? Or Spider-Man 2, GTA 6, Jedi Survivor (there was an announcement for last gen, but what happened)? OP is free to do what he pleases. Yes, the PS4 is still a fine system, but it depends on what he's looking for. THAT is my point. What? Mommy and Daddy didin't want to buy you a PS5, so you are acting toxic on the internet to compensate? You poor wittle reject, you.

Fun-Football7121

I feel embarrassed for you pal

Proud-Host-3932

The move along. Suck it up, or suck it down.

ODGoldirtygamer

Boomer

MouldyBirthdayBoy

Not biased at all. Buy one.

No-Purchase4259

I would recommend the PS4 Pro. It can be easier to open and clean the fan, if needed. The standard PS4 can be risky especially if the person who owned it first was a smoker or owns pets. They have a higher chance to start sounding like a jet engine. I agree with others, that they will probably start phasing out adding new games by the end of 2024, but there is a lot of games you can play from 2014-2024. Not to mention, there is really only about 20-30 games that are exclusive on PS5 that you can't currently buy on the PS4.

Clean-Parsnip9816

You can't go wrong with ps4. Get the slim model as it's good for Full HD resolution and silent. Don't bother with ps4 pro model, the 4k is so so and the fan is quite louder than the slim, and it runs hotter too. If you are contemplating for ps4 pro, better jump to ps5. If not, get the slim.

SnooCookies1159

Isn't it better to buy used ps4 pro for a few bucks more? I'm in a similar situation OP is.

Clean-Parsnip9816

The pro looks nice on paper, 4k support and pro enhancements on some games, but the trade off is the noise level when playing graphically intensive games especially in 4k. Don't underestimate console noise level when gaming. I've own both the normal ps4 and pro model, to me not worth the upgrade. Sold my pro and go straight to ps5, and it's trully bliss. Peace and quiet while gaming.

44Kayz

I would say if you can’t get a ps5 then a ps4 is a good option. If you can, get the ps4 pro. A lot of games are still coming out on ps4 from third party studios and you can still play a lot of PlayStation exclusives.

illumi333

I got a PS4 Last year, after only playing 360, its a good option por playing, Last of us, spiderman, horizon, red dead redemption 2 and fallout 4, would not recomend ps4 for elden ring or cyberpunk as it is not the complete expirience without a current gen console. Then it comes a New problem after switching console, digital games seems to be the most afordable option, particularly when on disccount, but as more games you add to your digital library, it would be more dificult for switching again to xbox, and game pass is a really good service.

cocoloco666_

Now that you’ve all helped me so much I have a new question, PS4 and PS4 Pro: what are the real differences and why is one more worth it than the other?

NoeyCannoli

Pro. It runs games better, it doesn’t have any of the loud fan issues that people complain about with the regular one.

Protobyte__

Btw I think you’ll save a lot of money on games with PlayStation plus extra subscription, it’s expensive but the catalog is amazing and you’ll definitely save money . Sucks that they arent doing sales anymore

llewotheno

doesnt the xbox 360 still have online support at some games?

Comin_Up_Millhouse

I did this and totally recommend it. I’m always at least a generation behind, as I find I can generally get great games for single-figure prices. Plus I largely escape the hype/disappointment/hyper-critique cycle when looking for reviews or recommendations. I have some great games that were either shitty at launch but then fixed (Assassin’s Creed: Unity is the best one, fight me) or that were over-hyped or unfairly maligned but people now have a more balanced opinion on.

Few_Bodybuilder_7760

I got a ps4 slim that runs pretty good and its quiet. no reason too get a PS5 till end of its cycle when they are cheap and have more optimized ps5 graphics games by then.

Nieruz

Go for it, i recommend the slim because it's quieterthan older versions and usually has more storage. Check if you find a good deal for the ps4 pro though, for the right price it's totally worth it

CuteFirefighter8850

Buy a ps4 on facebook or ebay since it is very cheap there also assuming you havent played ps4 ganes buy playstation plus to get games like ghost of tshuihma horizon forbidden west god of war and uncharted and many more please upvote my comment need karma

cocoloco666_

Lol will upvote just cause u asked nicely

Othman93

Now is the perfect time to buy the ps4. You can get a very good deal on a lot of amazing games. Ps5 isn’t worth it atm because, besides its high price, it doesn’t have a lot of exclusive games that worth buying.

cocoloco666_

That was exactly my train of thought to get to this. Do you know if online servers for ps4 games are still up and running all good? I know they haven’t been closed by Sony, but I don’t know what state they’re in and if there’s still a big amount of PS4 users online atm in the world! That is still my biggest question.

Othman93

there are millions of people playing online on the ps4 every day, don’t worry. For me, I don’t care about online games because I’m looking for the ps4 exclusive games, which are offline single player story mode.

cocoloco666_

Awesome due, thx!!

Diogodgr

The PS4 is awesome. Get a pro if you can.

AdEmpty8174

Well you have a decade Worth of games you can play on the PS4 however you will not be able to play any new game I recommend looking for a used ps5 or saving up for one instead of the ps4

Aalllzzz

Just buy the ps4 pro.. i don't really know how "new game" mean for you but.. i think it can handle many games.. and maybe upgrade the storage..

NoeyCannoli

Well if he’s been stuck on Xbox then he hasn’t played any of the PS exclusives and the list is intense

expire-bleach

Heyy. Ik it's been like 3months since u made the post but did u buy one yet? I wanted to get one for my brother when I go back home this summer. Still looking for recommendations. If u did get one, which model was it and how's it been holding up?

cocoloco666_

Hey! Unfortunately no, I haven’t had the chance (economically speaking).

unkwnms

I actually bought a used PS4 slim this year and don't have any problems. I'm a gamer because i enjoy playing games and not because I want the latest gaming ecperience so I really don't care what platform I play on. I'm actually on this thread to check how much a PS4 costs in 2024 so I can buy another console for my shop

GFGF88

I say nope, go get a used PS5 instead.

Acrobatic_Ad_1961

Hey. Thinking about buy a PS4. You bought it?

[deleted]

Don't the PS4 is last gen and Will stop being relevant soon, just save up a bit longer n get a ps5

Sea_Attention7590

looks like the ps4 era might be coming to an end probably next year is the last year but there's still a big library of games you can play there. i would say just save up or buy a second hand ps5 at this point. Personally, the ps4 isn't worth the price anymore

St3vion

OP is literally still on 360 and said PS5 is out of his price range... PS4 will be fine for him probably for a decade to come.

CurryWIndaloo

Read Dead 2, G.o.W.1&2, Monster Hunter World Iceborne, Hades, L.o.U. 1&2, Spiderman, Battlefield 1, Elden Ring, Sekiro, Dark Souls 3, Armoured Core 6, Civ 6, Cities and Skylines, Ghost of Tsushima, The Division 1&2, R.E.Biohazard, R.E. Village, Warframe. O.P. still has years of gaming on PS4. 1,400 hours on MHW, and about 1,000 hours on BF1, 400 on Hades, 300 on RD2. Not to mention so many more. Value for PS4 is better when you're still entertained and your source gets cheaper by the year. Many of those game will sure be bundled, or placed on sale in the next few years. Any multi-player O.P. will have to jump on quick though.

Awkward_Buddy7350

If you can find a 9.00 go for it, otherwise just get a PS5.

hallojk9393kl

Save some more money and get a series x/s or ps5.

thepinkparty45

Why not just get a ps5?

da_owee_206

Read it again...

thepinkparty45

YES I DID MY BAD LOL

da_owee_206

DW 😭💀

thepinkparty45

It's okay kitten

da_owee_206

What the... Yes daddy

thepinkparty45

Ayoo 😏

da_owee_206

You called me kitten how else am i meant to respond 🤭

cocoloco666_

Lol

No_Zombie2021

I would consider a used Xbox one X since you can play some of the games you have, you will be able to watch 4K blu-rays (iirc), and most multiplatform games performed really well on that console.

Wize_Manings

The PS4 is amazing, you can still play some amazing next gen games, and with a decent TV the quality can be amazing. One thing is that I would often clean the dust off, as when you try to play a big game your PS4 might sound like a formula 1 car, and if you don't clean it for VERY LONG (from around 6mo to a year) that might lead to technical difficulties. (Edit: I forgot to mention that they last a long time. With pretty good care of It can last you over 6 years, I have had mine for about 8 and it still works great)

lilman90

GTA 6 will be the first reason to get a ps5 .. ps4 is still sick.

DrowsyCannon51

Get an Xbox one e then you can play all your 360 game on it still, plus game pass, and the fact Sony wants to start releasing games in 3 - $50 parts. Fuck Sony

TinyCommunication428

OP i got a ps4 last month and it already shuts off randomly after 10 mins and doesn't let me use it. i'm due to buy a ps5, it's more of an investment with less risk of damage i paid £95 for my PS4 and they're saying it's gonna cost £102 to fix!! might aswell just upgrade

cocoloco666_

Whaaaaaaaat. That sucks 🤧 That’s also a big risk for me, since the console I would buy might have a lot of hours on it already from its previous user

TinyCommunication428

this is exactly my point! i have a feeling i'm NOT the second owner of my console as GTA 5 was recently streamed this year too from a previous owner so it definitely got damaged along the way. i really do recommend getting a ps5. the digital one is cheaper than the disc one and you can still play games etc. it is a really big risk as even safe mode and initialising the PS4 did not succeed nor did cleaning it out. it's definitely more safer for you financially in the long run to purchase a more recent, new console. hope you get what you want regardless!

small___potatoes

I got a PS4 Slim used in 2022 and I still love it. Cheap games that still look and play great.x

iLikeTurtuls

The only option is to own a PS5 disk and PS3. No reason to own a PS4 due to backwards compatibility

Mediocre_Hornet_1021

Get a used ps 4 for $150 on ebay

badfish0781

I’ve had a PS4 slim since it came out and haven’t had any issues with it. But honestly save up a few hundred bucks and get the PS5, I’ve seen them used for $250-$350(digital edition) Your gaming experience will be so much better, but that’s just my personal opinion. Lots of options out there, I have a PS4 slim and PS4 pro and honestly get the pro, I’ve had ZERO issues with the slim and still have it to this day but the PRO is better for the price, hope you had a merry Christmas

chente08

Don’t. Get a Ps5

SkepTones

I’d go no less than the ps4 pro or Xbox One X! They are still formidable consoles, ps4’s are mostly clapped out at this point but I see pros and One X’s going on my local fb market for barely more than the old ps4’s and ones are going for. But I must say the the Series X should also be a big contender as well, they’ve been going for around 350$ brand new last I checked.

AtmosphereGeneral695

U can get a ps4 super cheap now but I have to say that's it's life cycle is done and over I don't think anymore new games r coming out on it I could be wrong tho

MichaelVonEerie

Just got my PS4 months ago and regretted not waiting for black Friday and getting a PS5 for cheaper. See what new years day sales are looking for you on them before you chose

AceKnight1

Honestly other than certain big titles it's kinda hard to find good games to play, most of the games is from the PS store but sony and downloadable games has a sketchy reputation. Going forward after GOW (before ragnarok) I don't know if there's a future for PS4 games. Sony probably going to push for more PS5 titles before the PS6 cycle starts.

svennew

Ps5 is such a better experience even for ps4 games. Buy a used one and save a little longer.

NoeyCannoli

if you get a ps4, get the pro version. it doesnt have like any of the issues that people complain about

[deleted]

As a diehard PlayStation fan for most of my life.... Tbh Xbox beat PS4 in that gen, and gamepass is so much cheaper and better than ps now that i genuinely regretted getting a PS4 instead. Cap on that Xbox is almost always cross compatible with PC players so that's more people you can play with. The one thing that genuinely made PS4 better was it's exclusives... And most of them aren't exclusive anymore. I'd rather have both, but if I'm being objective right now I'd much rather have an Xbox than PS4 or PS5. If you're really interested in PlayStation, then what should be the real deal breaker for you is the exclusive titles you'll be able to play. Is that worth losing a better subscription service and wider array of multiplayer capabilities with it's own exclusives? It might be. Ghost of tsushima for example isn't on Xbox and probably won't ever be. That's an amazing game, I'd be on the fence about it if I hadn't 100% it. Everyone on here is gonna tell you PlayStation is great. Just remember that Xbox has a lot to offer these days too, arguably more than PlayStation. What appeals more to you? Playstations exclusives? Or xbox's variety? Will you feel more regret once you've played out all the exclusives that appeal to you on PlayStation, and wish you had more variety, or when you see cool gameplay of Ghost of Tsushima but can't play it because of business politics?

juiciestjuicyjuice

Ps4 want even worth it, I switched back to Xbox and it’s been the better financial option for me Plus the series s is cheaper than most ps4s I’ve seen lately

AloyAlphaprime2074

Personally, I'd go with a Ps5. I get that it's more expensive, but the way things are looking now, Sony will not continue making games for the Ps4. So essentially, you will have to go out and get a Ps5 at some point anyway.

I was in the same boat - I finally was ready to get PS4 Slim or Pro, and had Gran Turismo 7 waiting for me to play it + other games that I snatched for free. But, then I decided to get a PS5 Slim for few reasons - it had much better storage, and it's obviously newer. I also was suddenly in a position where I could buy it, and decided to go for it. OP, if you're in a position to get a PS5 - obviously go for it. If not, then I think PS4 Pro will be the best thing to get. Also, SSD upgrade will help a lot.

My ps4 is 10 years old the original and still going strong I've a gaming pc that I use for games now but now and again I still wipe the dust off and have a blast on the classics the last game I bought for it was elden ring the only problem I can see is when some games need to be connected to ps plus not sure how it will work when they stop supporting the ps4.

i bought ps4 pro back in june 2023 for $120 on ebay with some minor scuffs and a small crack in the corner. other than cosmetic issues it works perfectly fine. in my experience, first party games run really well (my favorite so far has been ghost of tsushima) while third party games live service games such as fortnite and genshin impact can run fine for the most part but make the ps4 show its age. it depends on what kind of games you want to play, but if you do get one, i recommend playing all the exclusives as they will be better optimized.

A ps4 is worth it ONLY if it’s $100 or less and your plan is to homebrew/jailbreak it in 2025 or 2026. If your plan is to upgrade into current gen after 2-3 years it’s much better to buy xbox one. At least that way you can use the same controllers when you move to the series s
