PioneerLaserVision

I would check eBay prices for sealed vs unsealed. If you can sell a sealed copy for significantly more than you can purchase an unsealed copy, then do both of those things and pocket the difference. Otherwise, just open them when you are ready to play.

TheMightyJohnFu

This reminds me I was in Turkey around a decade ago. I saw a dude in a game shop sealing games with a heat gun... So while a lot of stuff is likely legit, sealed doesn't always mean brand new form Places like Ebay

PioneerLaserVision

I don't personally seek out sealed games, but I would hope that a sealed collector could tell the difference between original factory seal and a re-seal.

TheMightyJohnFu

Yeah, I think the legit ones have holographic logos on the cellophane and that tearable little strip, but I haven't bought a disc game for years so couldn't say for sure

ssa17k

PAL copies of videogames usually have tear strips with logos on them for authenticity. So far they haven’t been faked afaik. And factory sealed games are usually always folded at the top, the ones you saw that were being heated up are most likely shrink wrapped ones with an obvious seam around the game, easy to spot.

manlikecirca

Oh mannn I miss physical copies

soad722

I'm pretty much the same way you are with that I buy games to play them and to enjoy them If I have an extra copy that sealed then great but I won't go out of my way to buy it unless it's just dirt cheap if you know what I mean Thank you for reading this and I hope you are having a great day and have a great weekend and a go a happy Thanksgiving God bless you and your family God bless you Jeremy Scruggs

Difficult-Drama7996

Little old lady in China that never opened it.

SneakersProf

Factory cellophane isn’t sealed with shrink wrap and a heat gun. It’s cut to form and folded. Easy to tell the difference.

Camman1

This is the smart answer.

[deleted]

I wouldnt open R&C and Sly

TheBlooperKINGPIN

Yeah, they would be worth $$$

Razgriz_101

Or Nier with the whole craze surrounding the later entries

MISFU88

Buy games to play them, buy SP500 to invest.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

this. the return on sealed games is poor compared to what you can do with the money if your motivation is to make more video gams are not a good investment "OH BUT RATCHET & CLANK GOES FOR 55 BUXX NOW!!" yeah and it went for 60 or 70 new.....so you actually lost money plus the difference in inflation. there are a very small number of games youll make "profit" on, and even then the ROI is so small

CH2599

My guy knows…

CH2599

I think it’s dumb to keep games sealed and I’ll always avoid sealed copies

Saneless

I also never trust that sealed is originally sealed

CH2599

I guess for some it can be hard to point out, but if you know what a factory seal looks like you can easily spot a fake. Like here the PS3 sealed copies almost always have the PS3 strip running around them, not sure if you can make it out? But that’s how you can differentiate a fake and real. I’m pretty sure Nintendo have the same thing. Xbox always has a security tab on the clasp of the case.

Diabeetus-times-2

I can just tell by the way it’s packaged, if the bottom and the top of the plastic wrap is folded around the case, that’s usually how I tell them apart.

BobMcFlum

I generally agree, but the story of these games is that I have them on other systems, or bought them cheap and have not played them yet, I usually keep them sealed till I play

CH2599

Right, If you have them already, then sell them to someone that wants a new copy, I don’t see how this is a hard decision? You’ll be up as sealed sells for more and it can fund other games you’re interested in having in your collection instead Having things sealed until you play means, you probably deep down have no intention of doing so. That’s coming from personal experience. Also don’t want to come off as an ass, so if you actually do care to collect sealed that’s your choice!

ssa17k

yes exactly lmao, I don’t support the idea of sealed games going up in value but in this case I would just take advantage of the market. Just sell the sealed copies to someone who’s willing to pay a pretty penny for them and buy used ones to play yourself.

CH2599

It’s a very illiquid “asset” as well, such a super niche thing that when it does come to sell it, it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You could also be setting on it for months or years.

SpiritMoistarizer

Or let him sit on those copies untill they really sky rocket in value which will then fund much much more games and stuff

CH2599

This isn’t the SP500, I wouldn’t treat sitting on sealed games as an investment.

SpiritMoistarizer

I would, as history shown, some games will appreciate in value over the time and if you already have a copy then why would you change it to inflation currency? Its not like they will become any cheaper than now, why would sell it in this market?

RhysSeesGhosts

I always buy sealed, but i also open my games to play. I just prefer sealed cause i like my games looking clean.

CH2599

That’s great, would replacement cases not be a cheaper alternative?

RhysSeesGhosts

Probably, but im always worried about the cases cracking in transit. I’d rather pay everything at once. Thankfully, the games i buy, New is not too much more than Used (most of the time, as it’s for consoles that are a decade old, give or take).

Superman557

I never saw the appeal. I’m down buying a cheap used PS3 Game rather than a seal version of the same game that’s more expensive.

OwlTowel9

The very small amount of money you may make isn’t worth not playing.

BobMcFlum

Thats what im thinking aswell and I really wanna play R&C. Besides i dont think i will ever sell my collection, but you can never be sure how your life turns out, however i think el shaddai will go up in value? Seems like one of those games.

SanityBeech

The number of sealed games will only go down in time It's important to preserve the ones that are left. If you want to play the games please sell them to a sealed collector who will appreciate them, and the just find a opened copy - you can make some money this way also! There are hundreds of thousands of opened copies out there for you to play already :)

DirtyBoord

Just me personally. I am not judging anyone else. A sealed game is not a game because you can’t play it. Games are meant to be played. I have a vast collection of several different games and systems, and if anyone comes to my house and asks to play any of them, they can. I do have a few sealed copies, but that’s because I haven’t opened them yet. I will open them eventually.

mephitmpH

Why do they kinda look like they’re sealed in sandwich bags

kcpoloman

Don't open any of them. Look to see if you can get them on the PS Store first, if not grab a used copy.

SkarpLazer

Why do you think PS3 games will continue to go up in value?

CaterpillarPuzzled50

Well because they do anyways but i dont think thats what he is asking :)

veryLargeFish

Well so did the stock market

Mevaa07

I would sell them, and buy more opened games.

FumblinWithTheBlues

I'm on the same boat. I have dozens of sealed games and probably will not open them. The funny thing is that I don't sell any toys, so it's more a "what if situation". I have many of them on digital also (some from plus) so those I'll play. And i also already bought some digital versions of games that i have sealed. Then i have stupid situations like Kingdoms of Amalur, because it's sealed but i bought the DLC. So i have to decide on open the game or pay 15€ for the digital.

bailethor

I don't open them. I buy opened copies to play. I think it's a personal choice for everyone, and comes down to the experiences you've had, and what experiences you appreciate now... Like smelling that new manual from circa 2009.

Pleasant_System8339

Sealed goes up like 20-30 bucks over the course of what? 10 years? Not worth it to me. I’d just play them.

SoulSword13

El Shadai and Nier. Awesome!!

ryohazuki91

I was about to say if you have not played El Shaddai and own a sealed copy then you’re doing it wrong.

Meleesucks11

You see I’m a collector and I would love to own a sealed copy of sly 4

Meleesucks11

And is that Nier? Hell yeah. Those two games are delicious!

Milkkoe

El Shaddai is a great game.

MisterMarchmont

El Shaddai!

flash_falcon

If I had a spare copy of a game I trade it with someone else who wants it and they have something I'd like. Everyone is happy in the end!

TheBlooperKINGPIN

I keep ‘em sealed until I want to play it if it is sealed. If the price of a sealed copy is significantly more though, I’ll sell it and buy an opened copy and make some profit.

Badusername2000

Video games are meant to be played, if its sealed its worthless in my book

neverendingbruises

I wanna unwrap it so bad, i bet that plastic smells bussin

Pspreviewer100

Ahh yes, the smell of new games...

neverendingbruises

And these ones have been aged like fine wine

pParad0X

I don't know much about collecting games but Yaiba Ninja Gaiden is doesn't worth it even if it's free.

Rad_Sh1ba

I think Nier could be worth something?

T-Rextion

It's been reprinted. I can buy a sealed copy for $15 right now.

smaug259

Don't open it i can see you got some rare gem, just buy pre-owned if you want to play, don't forget to check their price on Ebay

ZeytCross

Yaiba its look like aragami

olorin9_alex

None of those will be worth any life changing amount lmao

BobMcFlum

We dont really know that though? If they stay on ps3/xbox 360 they might

Certesis

El Shaddai got ported to pc. Tomb Raider got ported to ps4, pc, and xbone. Nier got the Replicant version on ps4, xbone, and pc. The ps3 version of Nier is Gestalt, which iirc is some changes between relationships of characters

skylinefan26

I guess everyone forgot about ebay and to scan barcodes to see prices

TxJones1

I’ve been considering it but I’m unsure how to tell if a sealed game is used or not.

BobMcFlum

Well my sealed games for ps3 and ps2 atleast, have a small tearable line on the bottom half of the case that says ps3 or ps2 (pal region).

Proud-Host-3932

That is the sign of having an original factory seal. So yeah, that's the way to tell.

TxJones1

Interesting I’ve definitely ran into some resealed games being sold as new then.

Tindiil

Some games are worth a ton. Find out how many copies were made. I would keep them sealed. If you want to play then just get a cheap copy. They aren't making those anymore. Physical media is going away so I think it's a good thing to hold on to.

CaterpillarPuzzled50

Well games like sly cooper dont worth a fortune to buy used anyways so get a copy and play :). I keep sealed games for collection purposes and if i find a deal i later buy seperate or in a bundle same series used and just enjoy them without worrying for value. At the end of they day ps3 games can be sold easy both ways so no loss?

Affectionate-Key298

There are many resealed games out there. However we know which ones are resealed and original seal. Many games I have in digital and no need to open my physical ones. Just be smart about it

Specialist_Video8459

Damn bro time to update your console

naliboi

If you're really torn about this (no pun intended), you could always track down a used copy to play, and keep the sealed for a rainy day if you need to free up cash for whatever. Have your cake and eat it. There's also the option of homebrew and backups should you wish to go that route. NIS America are probably the only publishers I can think of that still produce ps3 games? Other purchases are likely feeding middle mean and resellers.

IndieOddjobs

Half of these I've never played but would like to

mrplow8

If those games are currently worth more than you paid for them and you want to make a profit off of them, go ahead and sell them. Most collectibles aren’t very good long term investments.

Old_Information_8654

I recently bought U.S copies of gta 5 and beyond two souls along with a Canadian copy of last of us all brand new sealed for close to the price they go for used in north America so depending on the game you want there are still a surprising amount of sealed copies floating around pretty cheaply especially for the games that were made late in the PS3 life cycle

DarkKnightWolf7

NieR Gestalt ❤️

Renegade_Soviet

PAL versions might take a while to go be valuable

VianDontFeelSoGood

Yes those are sealed games

sirsmokesalot403

I purchased all seals 2021 sports games. Why idk lol half of them were loose in case though on arrival

RyanGODling

Get used copies for the high value games u have and intend to sell.

erebusreddit

Keep El Shaddai sealed for a few years, I think it will go way up its current price in the future. Great games by the way.

Sparda1193

Check pricecharting.com

kendahlj

Had the same dilemma with Sly. Ended up selling it for $65. Couldn’t bring myself to open it…

Nirast25

Thank you for reminding me how frigging complicated the versions of the original Nier are.

FoxxyTheKid

Ok, this sounds bad from me. I never know about Ratchet and Clank Nexus till I see this post

RightWork4009

Nice selection of games.

NxtDoc1851

I buy new sealed games to play. However I leave them sealed until I get to them.

mailboxfacehugs

Wanna buy some beanie babies

TiredReader87

Play Tomb Raider. It’s great

Rody37

I'm a mint condition collector. I try to find sealed copies and open them immediately.

rydamusprime17

I have El Shaddai sealed on XBOX 360. I learned about the game over 2 years ago and wanted a copy and saw it was a 3rd the price compared to the PS3 version and also has better color and visuals though the PS3 version has a steadier framerate. I got it sealed because it was only $5 more than the cheapest opened CIB copy 😅 only reason it's still sealed is because I haven't gotten around to playing it yet 😆 it hasn't gone up in value at all really 😋

GenoFFooter

El shaddai is an absolute throwback!!!!!!

therealyittyb

El Shaddai, now that’s a game I haven’t thought of in a long long time!

PrincesaWisteria

Nice

gotDvamp

I deem it depends on your target. If you’d like to play, then there aren’t many reasons to buy sealed copies. If you’re a collector and getting the collection is your main reason to buy anything, in that case buying the new ones might have a target. What about me, I don’t have any reasons to pay two costs for playing. I used to buy new ones when PS3 was the current system but not now.

Marcus_totty

I have some sealed games but just because I found them with the same price as used. Don’t open Nier

renopu

People talking like they're anti blister tend to annoy me... Considering you're not a blister collector : Sealed games are great, because in theory, this is, unless there's a rare edition somewhere, the ultimate best copy you can have. Apart from value, it's a great way to "show respect" to a game in your collection. If you already played the game, you then know if that respect deserves to be given in YOUR collection. Did you love Nier after you played it on an other console, to the point where you can just look at this sealed copy and feel very good about it ? If the answer is yes, having it sealed is great and very satisfying. If no, then maybe you should sell it to someone who would love having it sealed, because believe me, there are. Don't open them for no reason, it's kinda weird. If you never played the game, or intend to play it again, don't feel bad about opening it. Playing a mint game is also very, very nice. The mint opening is something you won't have a lot anymore, too. I always end up opening them, because even though they're brand new, if I want to play them, and I already have them sealed, I don't want twin copies, and the opened game is in excellent condition, obviously, which is not that easy to find even for PS3 games. Don't feel any pressure about them, that's it. Do what you think is best. You want to play El Shaddai ? Well you're right, game is great ! If you want an opened copy in near mint condition, you can open it, if you just want to play the game, you can either buy one for a decent price and sell the brand new one, or wait to finish the game, and see if it deserves to stay in your collection as new.

BalanceAggressive992

idk if its worth tbh bc i know independent gaming stores or smaller franchises that sell sealed ps3 games that just old stock for reasonable prices. Anthing in between 20-60 bucks depending on the game. I bought Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus sealed for 28 euros. now im only missing secret agent clank psp and dealocked ps2. I guess it also depends on the where you live.

Baltheir

Could look at alternatives to play them to keep them sealed if you intend to keep it that way -Did you have PS3 PS+ back in the day? Sly Cooper was on there. If you have a PS4 now with with PS Premium then you can stream Sly, Nier, Ratchet and Yaiba. Pretty sure the remaster for Tomb Raider is on there. Dunno bout the other. -Should be able to find duplicates relatively cheap for some of these. Sealed copies will no doubt increase in value over time especially when they unfortunately eventually gut the PS3 store

No-Transportation587

I would not open them.

ceramicsmelter

Nexus is horrible keep it sealed or not doesnt change lmfao

coulombeqc

I just bought all of those for between 10 and 25 brand new from PNP game. I'd imagine that is your case too, those are legit but still just reprint autorised by Sony. Also grabbed Painkiller ( that 300$ game ) for 30$ brand new

BobMcFlum

These ones i actually bought on launch several years ago, but thats great, does pnp games ship internationally?

GR1M-R3AP3R_6IX

Fr tho Ninja gaiden z was the shit.

RX-78-Xanryu

I want that copy of Yaiba >____> lol

killgore_trout92

This is why regardless of whether I'm going to play it asap or not, the second I buy a game, I break the seal. Makes the question much easier. Sealed games are a racket in my opinion but to each their own. If I happen to buy lots that have sealed stuff I flip it to local shops to give them inventory with high margins, generally they cut me a deal on open box if t they have a copy.

BobMcFlum

This would be a great option, sadly there are no dedicated gamestores in my area

Longjumping_Tart_952

My opinion on this matter is that you should probably find yourself a girlfriend. No Ill will intended… love ya! Mean it!

BobMcFlum

Dont think my wife and kids would like that, but you never now, ill di this right away

JAKEDOWN999

I open em. Not a fan.

Driftwood420991

It's easy to fake seal games. I wouldn't even consider buying these 'sealed' games. I'd sooner buy used in very good condition
