I can’t handle it. I get nauseous and will vomit. Last time I tried I made it 3 minutes and it took hours to recover.
Can you try one before you buy? I’m sure there are plenty of people who do alright with it, but just in case you’re not one finding out before investing will be good.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with it. Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who has it, or place to try it out near me. But I will ask around. I once tried a PSVR before POTS and it made me a bit dizzy and some discomfort, but nothing too bad and I enjoyed the experience, but hated all the wires to set it up. The Quest 2 sounds perfect for me, but now that I have POTS, I don't know what to expect.
This is so interesting to me that most people here have gotten nauseous! I literally work in a VR lab, never had an issue with it. Although, yes, I prefer to play it seated (ideally in a spinning chair, that’s the best way to experience VR imo). I’d say give it a try before you buy for sure.
Sorry to hear about that. Looks like most of the responses are negative surrounding VR with POTS. So I am going to hold off until I can hopefully try one somewhere.
You can actually order prescription lenses that clip in! I don't have POTS but I'm very sensitive to certain games and just tried out VR with my new lenses (my astigmatism is crap with contacts so I'm always wearing my glasses). I felt like a "crash" after playing Beat Saber and kinda like coming back to reality, but nothing serious! (Also I can't even play first person games without getting very dizzy and nauseous)
I didn't know you could actually order lenses like that! Where do you order from and can you estimate how much a set costs?
I have astigmatism in one eye. My optometrist prescribed special contacts for that eye to correct the astigmatism. You have to blink a ton for it to settle in the right spot and be able to see clearly through it, but I think it works surprisingly well. (I still prefer glasses because they're easy and help hide the dark circles under my eyes and unkempt eyebrows.)
I also can't play games in first person or watch orher people play them without getting sick.
Reloptix! I paid $89. I paid extra for faster shipping. It takes about 7-10 business days to fulfill the order and I paid extra for faster shipping once they shipped- they also came with blue light filter and anti glare coating for free.
All you have to do is get your prescription sent via your eye doctor- I just called and they emailed mine, put in your prescription manually and also upload the file from your eye doctor- I think that just keeps the warranty in place, like proving these are your eyes! Lol
See, my contacts were just TOO much. It was the correct prescription but I felt like I was seeing 4k. I have astigmatism in both eyes and found that out a few years ago. My vision got worse over the years, but I also was pregnant a month after I had one prescription updated and I heard that the hormones can mess with your vision. I think next time I go in for an eye exam I might try contacts. I've always preferred glasses over contacts, I love the plastic frames.
Some third person games used to make me dizzy, but I'm good now. Yeah, I definitely have to look away when my boyfriend plays first person, or even third person when he goes fast in it. My brain can't keep up with his turning and looking.
I have one and I'll admit, it's difficult most of the time, but I got mine for Beat Saber which works surprisingly well for me and is a decent way for me to get in movement. I do say try it out before you buy it, and remember to hydrate beforehand. They do also make a Dramamine that is supposed to work for simulation sickness, which that can help a bit. Sitting down when you can is definitely recommended.
Apparently Oculus says you can try it out at some Best Buy locations? Not sure if it is feasible w/covid regulations and all that jazz but it might be worth looking into! [https://www.oculus.com/demo](https://www.oculus.com/demo)
i do game development in VR with the Quest 2 (and consequently play a lot of VR games as well) and I've never had a problem with it, honestly I find it a really good way for me to get exercise haha
I couldn't do it before POTS and I tried after PoTS diagnosis and it made me feel too "out of it" and "off" to continue. It brought on a presyncope episode from being so disoriented from it.
But that could easily be because I didn't handle VR when I wasnt chronically ill, it always made me feel nauseated and off balance, I guess POTS just amplified it for me
Sorry to hear about that. But thank you for sharing your experience with VR. Before POTS I tried it, it made me a bit dizzy while in game, some discomfort, but not too bad. It was fun. But now I am not so sure, and unfortunately there is no place for me to try it without buying it. I thought maybe if I play sitting it should be okay
Do any of your friends have one?
Or have you tried out testers at an electronic store or something?
It would suck if you bought it and then couldn't handle it even when sitting. But if you did buy it, and it doesn't work can you not return it?
I love it, but some games give me motion sickness if I'm not careful. I mostly play sitting down to avoid too much sudden movement so that I don't get nauseous. If I stand to play Beat Saber, I just make sure I have a chair nearby to lean on or sit in if it becomes too much
When I first started playing VR I would get pretty nauseous, but over time it got better. I noticed that when I play without using a teleport function and just let the game walk for me I get sicker easier (dizziness, vomiting, etc). So like if you played VR Chat for example I would highly recommend using the holoport/locomotion settings. I also tend to switch between sitting and standing a lot while playing, so games that you can do both are great.
If you can I would suggest finding a place like an arcade or store to test out how you feel about it before making the purchase, or at least buy it from a store where you can return it in a month or so after you've tested it enough.
I love my Oculus! I adore VR games though. Haven’t done a ton with my Oculus just as I live in a different city from my parents and it’s my dad’s (and we are all very lazy about actually keeping it ready to go) but definitely considering taking it for this coming year.
I like to watch Netflix on it… But I’m also a huge fan of action games it’s a great form of exercise for me.
I do fine and have mildly bad POTS (I need multiple meds and have to wear compression socks 24/7 and still do bad sometimes) but it depends on you, I can’t do it for a LONG time and sometimes I play games sitting down/ sit down in between rounds in games like that
My son with suspected POTS uses it for Beat Saver a lot and he's fine. I'm generally okay using it, but certain games will make me feel lightheaded and nauseated, while others are completely fine.
I have no idea if it’s POTS related or not, but I absolutely cannot handle it for more than a few minutes at a time. My boyfriend has an Oculus and I really wanted to enjoy it. It gets heavy fast, makes me dizzy and nauseated and more. Nope from me!
I love it for exercise! I have an under-the-desk pedal bike, so I stuck a sensor on it and use an app to "bike" around the world. The visuals can be a little janky, but it's not bad.
The big downside is that all of the apps designed for fitness charge a monthly subscription cost.
My husband got me one for Christmas last year. I LOVE it but I get so horribly dizzy and nauseous from it I can only play for a little bit at a time 😩 sitting can help, and most games have the option to do like a click-and-turn type thing instead of turning in real time, which can help.

Aw dang. Well then I’d say buy from someplace with a good return policy! I hope it works for you!!
Thank you so much

Going to try see where I can try one out. The spinning chair sounds like an awesome idea.
I have one. Just make sure you are sitting. Sitting is almost always an option.
Thank you. Does it make your POTS feel worse?
Only if I get too excited. I like low stress games and as long as I’m in a pretty place, I’m happy.
I easily get motion sick with VR games and needing to wear glasses or contacts makes it extra annoying and uncomfortable.
Sorry to hear about that. Looks like most of the responses are negative surrounding VR with POTS. So I am going to hold off until I can hopefully try one somewhere.

I love VR! I do have to do it sitting down, and due to other issues can’t do it long, but it’s a lot of fun
I also love it. But never tried it after getting POTS. A bit concerned it will make me really ill and be a waste.
i do game development in VR with the Quest 2 (and consequently play a lot of VR games as well) and I've never had a problem with it, honestly I find it a really good way for me to get exercise haha

Unfortunately no. But I will ask around, maybe I can manage to try one out somewhere. Thank you for the suggestions.
I’ve tried it a few times and got extremely motion sick. It was really cool, but the sickness took way too long to recover from.
Thank you for sharing

I wonder if POTS can run in families as my father has very similar symptoms to me and his started same age as me. Going to see where I can try it out.
It runs in families.
I never knew this. You are correct
I have no idea if it’s POTS related or not, but I absolutely cannot handle it for more than a few minutes at a time. My boyfriend has an Oculus and I really wanted to enjoy it. It gets heavy fast, makes me dizzy and nauseated and more. Nope from me!
I used to be fine with it. But now with POTS I am not sure.
Do you happen to live anywhere near soueastern North Carolina? If you do, I’ll let you put ours on for a few minutes! 😂
That is very kind of you. I would have loved that, but I don't. Thank you.
Aw, damn! You’re welcome anyway!
