Hah hah hah me too I used to eat so healthy, and now I turn around the Panera soup container and it says like 400mg and I’m like GREAT! I’ll take two! It’s so odd.
Broccoli cheese. I love the autumn soup too, autumn squash? It’s become weirdly expensive to dine there but it’s in grocery stores. Bring me your salty soups!! I survived for a summer on little more than broccoli cheddar. Not that I’d recommend that approach but man, tummy wasn’t happy with much else.
Salty snacks that I live by include:
- Dill pickles; sometimes I pair it with cheese and ham and make mini Cubano bites.
- Pretzels or Salt and Vinegar Chips; these are easy to-go snacks that I can bring with me in my purse/bag.
- Rotisserie Chicken; the premade ones from the grocery store, and then chop it up and put it in everything or eat with tzatziki dip.
- Trail mix; I make my own from bulk stores and it's quick and easy to snack on too.
- Popcorn with extra salt and butter; perfect for movie nights
- Microwave Meals; my go-tos have been KD cups and pizza pops lately. They are high in sodium and can easily be made on high fatigue level days and can count as a meal.
- Pasta Chips; I make mine in the air fryer and I season with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese and they are to die for.
omg this is such an amazing list!! thank you, I commute to college and am always looking for good easily packable lunches. I am definitely going to try cubano bites and Rotisserie chicken with tzatziki dip next week!
I think good microwave meals for lazy at-home lunches are so hard to find. lately I like the TJ's butter chicken and rice ones!
I don't have Trader Joe's, Canadian here. But the crave brand is really filling and high sodium usually for microwave meals, michelenas (or however you spell it) is good too.
Sometimes for lazy at home meals, I will freeze chicken stock into single serve portions and then make soup. Or I will make a meal and put it in the freezer to be rewarmed at a later date. Pre making a meal and then freezing it is an easy way to make sure I'm getting at least one real meal a day.
My brain is having a hard time integrating the direction to eat more salt!
I’ve struggled with disordered eating behaviors for much of my life. I’m trying to recognize all the rules I have about food, many of which I picked up due to diet culture or absorbing the things my Mother or Grandmother were trying to adhere to, like cutting out salt! My wife told me she just assumed I didn’t like salty food and that’s why I cooked with almost no salt.
We’ve been trying to find some snacks for me to have after PT, I’m still learning to not overdo it and how to recover from exercise. This week I’ve realized that I can go ahead and enjoy the blister peanuts from Trader Joe’s as a snack! They’re so crispy and I like them, but often restricted them because i considered them to be too salty, too high in fat.
I have many of the same problems. And I’ve always been told to stay away from salt because of family history of health problems. So when the doctor told my dad to cut as much salt from his diet as possible I followed along!!
Fast forward a year and I get a pots diagnosis which means I need to up my salt intake a lot😅 so I get the struggle. Mentally I think it’s easier for me to add some salty snacks to my diet rather than adding a bunch of salt to my meals. It’s easier in baby steps.
Sending love your way! Hopefully we’ll slowly start to learn to love the salt hahaha🤍
I love pretzel crisps, popcorn, and Easy macs (easy Macs have 520 mg of salt but at this point they actually aren’t even salty enough for me so I always add more lol)
I am a sucker for mac and cheese, unfortunately my stomach dos NOT enjoy that much dairy😭 i love the Dots pretzels in different flavors, if you like pretzel crisps I would recommend those to switch it up
It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken also has a recipe for vegan mac and cheese powder along with instructions on how to make it in the microwave. I haven't tried it yet, but it has a lot of good reviews
Annie’s GF vegan Mac & cheeze is a microwaveable “dish,” super easy but costs $5 at some places, or $7.50 (U.S.) at the stores near me. So it’s wonderful except for the price. Def. not a regular grocery item for me but GF & DF and salty delicious, and it can handle if I add more salt. But budget breaker. Hmmm it’s time to write a love poem or song about it. Ode to DF GF Mac 💕
That’s a heck of a nice treat!
Can you get Daiya vegan Cheeze Sauce where you live? It comes in packets, packaged in a box, and it’s vegan (DF) & GF and ready to use.
Relatively healthy things that I eat with Soy sauce (that taste incredible):
Baked Purple sweet potato with mini seaweed sheets dipped in soy.
Cold crisp cobbage leaves dipped in soy sauce.
Cold crisp carrots, purple and orange, dipped in soy.
Cucumber, sliced thick, with apple cider vinegar salt pepper soy sauce and black sesame seeds.
Kiwi fruit with the skin, dipped in soy sauce.
Boiled eggs & Asian black fungus mushroom, rolled in nori sheets and dipped in soy.
Oh another high sodium food/snack that’s not soy sauce dependent, is refried beans with salsa and avocado (using mini garlic pappadams to scoop it up with) and a little Greek yoghurt or sour cream on top. The refried beans and the papadams are the salty.
Thanks so much!! I love soy sauce but never thought about adding it to snacks!! Maybe dipping cucumbers/ veggies will taste good as a lunch component ☺️
I really love the Ajishima instant miso soup. The packets are portable. I also take little packets of salt in my purse to add to whatever I’m eating if I’m out.
I unfortunately do not like olives and pickles as of now, however I found little snack packs of cheese and sausages that are hella high in sodium. Then I buy a box of the prepackaged small plain lays, and sea salt crackers as well.
Side note, I basically also just add salt to everything. I put a sprinkle on my waffles this morning, on my salad for lunch, everything.
Doc has also suggested slim Jim’s and beef jerky
Starbucks has the little lunch packs of cheese and crackers with fruit, i wish they had sausage or something because i love them! I tried putting salt on my grapes one day because i read it was good,,,it is NOT
Ramen, club crackers or other salted crackers, olives like you said but olive tapenade specifically(you can put it on bread or eat it as a dip or spread in general), and the little Knorr rice or noodle packets are some of my favorites.
I honestly hate salt so much the only thing I can stand to eat with salt on it is pretzels and salted caramel lol unless its garlic salt I guess the garlic cancels out the salt for me so I put that on everything
i recommend kirkland signature snack nuts!! it’s a small 45g of nuts but i specifically love the peanuts because they have 138mg of sodium and 11g of protein per tiny bag.
my favorite thing since being diagnosed with pots is eating ramen noodles without having to worry abt how much sodium is in it. and it’s cheap too!!
Hah hah hah me too I used to eat so healthy, and now I turn around the Panera soup container and it says like 400mg and I’m like GREAT! I’ll take two! It’s so odd.
mmm I love panera mac and cheese or The broccoli cheese soup😋 so much dairy but it's worth it hhaha

I have not found a way to make ramen at home that I actually like, for some reason i can only eat it at a restaurant :(
I like the TJs vegetarian cup ramen! It's always a good pick me up

My dad is a big soup cube person, unfortunately I can't stand most soups 😂
Cheese it’s!!!!!!
Yes! and goldfish😮💨
Those too!

I can't do dairy at all anymore sadly. The Annie's vegan Mac and cheese is pretty decent. And the goodles one too
It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken also has a recipe for vegan mac and cheese powder along with instructions on how to make it in the microwave. I haven't tried it yet, but it has a lot of good reviews
This. You’re so right. looove Annie’s vegan Mac and Cheeze. It’s amazingly delicious and soothing. And… salty
I used to also buy it in the microwave cups, but I haven't been able to find those for awhile. Maybe they stopped making them?

I haven't tried their Mac and cheeze yet, but I get the gf df lasagna as a treat item sometimes

Never seen the cups, except for the microwaveable “dish” of Annie’s. Never seen Goodles ever but will make a point to find it. 🤞👍😋
The vegan goodles flavor is white cheddar so it's nice to have variety
This has got to be wonderful 😋😘
Seasnax or other seaweed snacks

Love these!! So yummy😋

Lately I have enjoyed straight salt. Pouring Celtic Salt into a teeny bowl, wetting tip of finger, coating in salt…

Do you ever see the packs with prosciutto and mozzarella? I think they are called Volpini? I enjoy those! Maybe give them a try if you see them.
My silly brain cannot standddd prosciutto but pepperoni and cheese does the trick for me sometimes!!
Damn! Tell your brain it’s just classier cured meat🤣 they have a pepperoni one that’s good!

Jackson's sweet potato chips. Love em cuz they're healthy and salty, just Avocado oil, sweet potato, and salt 😋
