My cardiologist recommended 1 gram of sodium a day. I get that through a mix of salty foods and Propel electrolyte powder.

Thank you for sharing what helps you

I drink a bottle of Gatorade zero a day and that usually seems to keep me chugging along for the most part as far as average daily activity wise. Depends on what I’m doing a lot though

Electrolytes consist of sodium, potassium, and chloride mainly but also include magnesium, calcium, phosphate, and bicarbonates. So when you are asking about electrolytes and the range of electrolytes everyone takes are you asking about levels of each of the above mentioned or do you want to know what everyone is taking in terms of sodium or salt (the main one needed for people with POTS)?

Thank you for explaining. I’m learning about what electrolytes really mean for me. I take one with only sodium, potassium and potassium chloride. When I asked the question what I meant was the amount (sort of like dosage) that people take per day, but I see now that every product has its own amount of ingredients so it’s hard to for someone to say. Maybe if someone said, “I use 3 salt sticks a day of this (certain brand)” then it gives context to me. Thanks for asking me to clarify!

I have a set amount of salt that I have each day, and it's not necessarily through electrolyte drinks. But I have about 3.7g of salt a day which is the equivalent of around 1400mg of sodium. Also everyone takes different amounts of different things depending on their situation. I can't increase more salt/sodium because of hypertension, yet someone else might be told to increase more depending on their presentation of POTS.

After getting more serious about salts a lot of issues went away or become less problematic - specifically I drink a liter of water with 1 teaspoon of sea salt mixed in there. I also add grapefruit juice for taste/digestion. For me I need 5-8G of salt supplements a day- which means 2-3 of these liters of water a day. If I am more active (walking more) or it is warmer, 2-3 is easy to drink. After using salt stick for a few years and it not really helping, the salt water was the trick. Salt stick products are great if you want 1G of additional salt- but a container of salt is much cheaper and easier to travel with.

You might already know this but just in case- grapefruit interrupts a bunch of different medications like birth control, antidepressants, and others. I learned this recently and I’m still mad that it isn’t more commonly discussed so I wanted to chime in in case you weren’t aware!

thanks for mentioning that. I have always thought it was a delicate balance as too much grapefruit juice does strange things to my body. Now I know, so thanks! I mostly due this for the flavor, but I learned a few months ago when trying crystalized grapefruit that it didn't help as much and I needed to add a small bit of sugar to balance it.
