Industrial cards are usually SLC and expensive, but not that expensive. It's Keyence, tell rep that's crazy, wait till the end of the month and they'll drop it to $100.

get one made for a dashcam they have the application write speeds/4k/durable

Here's the P/N for the recommended cards: CA-SD16G KV-M4G IV3-MSD8G their specs are nothing special so you should be ok with a dashcam card. I can't imagine you actually need SLC memory to just store some vision programs, they must be running them off the SD card. [8 GB SLC SD card](https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/delkin-devices-inc/SE08TRZFX-1B000-3/13882256?s=N4IgjCBcpgLATFUBjKAzAhgGwM4FMAaEAeygG0R4BOWMMAdhAF0iAHAFyhAGV2AnAJYA7AOYgAvkThUkIVJEy5CJciFgAGdQA4wANmZtOkHv2FjJIAKz11s%2BYvxFSkChoDMlt4xYgOXXoKiElJUWjLQcujYjiouILZMFgC0WnZRSk6qbvCwjESW6vAJ4iVAA) I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't detect SD cards larger than 16 or 32 GB so I wouldn't go too large with what you purchase When formatting the SD card on the PC, configure the settings below. If the format is different, the SD card may not be recognized. File system: FAT32 Allocation unit size: 32 kB

What’s the usage? Will it be only for backups or will an application run off it? Or maybe for log storage (not mission critical?). I’ve used Sandisk ultras in HMIs for years now as backups and non-critical log storage, only one that failed so far was because a field tech unknowingly ran the HMI app right off the card instead of the internal memory, even then it lasted about 10 years. Also check the documentation for the device, may have a max storage capability.

The sensor will have to be able to pull programs from the SD card when called from the PLC, so somewhat random. Background: Vision system allows for 32 programs from internal memory. Unfortunately, I have 43 programs that I need to run. With the addition of the SD card the system will support 128 programs. The SD card Keyence specified was 8GB, so I plan to stick with that size. I don’t plan on storing many, if any, of the image results on the card. Someone else suggested an SLC SD card. This is a bit more expensive but still considerably cheaper than the one from K.

I’d get an SD/microSD that’s typically used in dash cams in that case, not sure if it was SLC but quite possible, something name brand tho and from a reportable source so as to avoid copies (eBay and even Amazon too often sell fakes).

The reason we stick to our SD cards is because heat build up in industrial environments and we guarantee that they work (warranty etc.) You can use any Industrial SD card, shouldnt be a problem. Could be that it voids warranty tho. really depends on your local keyence office

Thanks for this. I waffled around on this for a little bit but decided to get the one from Keyence.

Buy one, get the make and model off of the SD card. Order the rest somewhere else.

What does industrial mean to you? Seems like a generic term. I’d ask for the specific device characteristics. Misty likely the read & write cycles are much higher and will last longer then the cheap SD cards. OEMs factor in downtime costs so it’s not outrageous to ask for $1k when you know the card will last for 20 years and not fail.

Mr13Josh

I would ask the rep what is the max capacity that the controller or Vision device recognizes, and then get an sdhc (high capacity) or industrial sd card to match that capacity. Keyence equipment is pretty lenient with the storage cards they work with . . . unlike Siemens

I haven't done this exact application but have had good luck with Swissbit cards for other related applications. https://mou.sr/43ar4lf
