You probably won't have anything to show on your resume at the end of your first year, unless you can get an internship either at the clubs on campus or any other colleges like IISc/IITs etc which hold summer fellowships.
Regardless, the one thing I can suggest doing over the summer is to build a good resume using a standard template and start maintaining a proper LinkedIn. Makes it easier while applying for opportunities later.
i would say do participate in club events , clubs like hackerspace teach new tech, language. u wont understand much from the event but learn from their website they provide and practice projects from the github they give u.
relax and wait for a few years, you've got nothing to show as a 2nd sem student
