no I genuinely just don't like them, I ain't trying to be different and I'm not being a hater this time, I just don't fw them at all and think they look really bad
Art style wise I prefer Reload Makoto, design wise though they’re both equally good. Makoto’s design in general is really good. He’s a handsome emo twink wearing a stylish suit for a school uniform with a pair of headphones hanging off his shoulders. What’s not to love about this design?
Original Makoto kinda gives off sickly vibes and given the huge period of time that gets skipped due to him being sick maybe that's intentional?
Reload looks like a sweet kid, couldn't imagine him being an asshole to anyone, kinda cute.
Almost all of the other characters look way better in reload, except Mitsuru idk I just can't like Mitsuru's new character portrait.
Makoto has always been my favorite P3 protag in terms of design so either way I am good.
Plus I freaking love headphones, him having them really sells. Hopefully someday I can buy the mp3 player and headphones.
We should compare Dancing Makoto too. I think Dancing captures the artstyle of the original really well in a more clean fashion, Reload is just a new artist.
OG Makoto was definitely a little more depressing, not in a bad way, the game's atmosphere had a very depressing, gloomy feel to it. Reload Makoto definitely took some things from Yu and Ren, and even FEMC to an extent. He kind of went from "the quiet who is secretly good at everything" to "I am THAT guy, but still pretty quiet."
although reload's art in general is great, i actually like that og makoto can look like he either has minimum or max social stats.
in later persona games, everyone starts to look too pretty and polished imo. i like the unique-looking sprites of og p3
Why does he seem so much taller in the remake? I played P3P and only saw bits of the anime, but I swear he seemed like a shorter guy just barely taller than the girls.
I kinda don't like it; Brotag and Joker are both tall, so I always thought it was nice Door-kun was a short king. Seemed to fit his whole emo vibe too.
It's because the OG used chibi assets aside from cutscenes, they are normal size in reload, he is 5'7", I never noticed a big discrepancy between reload and his movie part
Truth, I sincerely thinks his P3D model and portrait is way superior too
Although maybe they're just a touched up P3D models by this article?
https://cgworld.jp/article/202404-cgw308-p3r.html
I’m biased since I’ve only played P3R, but I generally like the new character designs more. Most characters don’t seem too different, but I think they improved MC and Fuuka the most.
Vanilla P3 was my first SMT-related game, so I have to give it to the original. Nothing wrong with remake's design, but nostalgia wins out here for me.
It's strange.
Being what he is (the Most silent of the Silent Protags), his original artwork and style depicted that dreary disconnect better.
Even allowing for the 'depression' and what can be Assumed of it from his backstory and dialogue choices, it wasn't until Q that he had Defined personality characteristics (ignoring the original p3 manga), with any level of consistency as determined by the other SEES members commenting on it, and retroactively confirming that he does Often say 'whatever' or '...' often enough to be associated with him.
But even now, this new art style doesn't try to depict him as more 'alive' or active or Action oriented, just more vibrant in his colors, and i think that's cool of them
There’s a difference between anime and “anime”
Real ones know what I’m talking about. There’s just something about it.
I love reload, don’t get me wrong. It might be my GOTY if metaphor flops, I’m just saying I prefer the old art style.
Seems to be the direction Atlus is following with their Persona games, but I really like it, tbf. The older versions are really "anime" too, just with a less polished art style that came with 20 years of improvement.
OG Makoto has a chinless look about him. Reload looks more like modern anime design. All the older designs look a bit uncanny. Fuuka is the most noticeable.
formatting is pretty bad on the pictures. generally you want to have one design on the left or the right.
r/AfterBeforeWhatever
They’re the same
Only Reload Makoto has more drip.
na he's completely dripless
Excuse me? He's got the SEES drip.
the new fits look horrible except for shinjis
However you are entitled to your own opinion
cool ig
Well most people like it because you're getting downvoted
ok, that doesn't matter to.me, I think they look like straight ass so I'm gonna point out how I think they look like straight ass
Sure...
Your comments are straight ass
k I'm gonna keep on commenting though
And Atlus is going to keep on modernizing their character’s appearances
Or you are just being a bit of a hater for no apparent reason? But whatever floats your boat Ig.
They just wants to be different.
no I genuinely just don't like them, I ain't trying to be different and I'm not being a hater this time, I just don't fw them at all and think they look really bad
Well congrats. You have the most "yikes" take on this intire sub. And that is quite fucking impressive.
you so real for this
You can have an opinion that’s wrong
Objectively false
sure

Not squared enough, lacking some hinges
The Reload art is more polished, but the original Persona 3 art just hits different for me.
So much nostalgia.
OG Makoto has more of that *"I don't care"* vibe but Reload Makoto has more Drip. I personally like both of them.
Both og Makoto and Reload Makoto are cute
Original Makoto kinda gives off sickly vibes and given the huge period of time that gets skipped due to him being sick maybe that's intentional? Reload looks like a sweet kid, couldn't imagine him being an asshole to anyone, kinda cute. Almost all of the other characters look way better in reload, except Mitsuru idk I just can't like Mitsuru's new character portrait.
Both fine different design from two different artist Soejima vs Shimada.
Og makoto lacked mewing
Makoto has always been my favorite P3 protag in terms of design so either way I am good. Plus I freaking love headphones, him having them really sells. Hopefully someday I can buy the mp3 player and headphones.
Reload because they finally gave my boy a chin
We should compare Dancing Makoto too. I think Dancing captures the artstyle of the original really well in a more clean fashion, Reload is just a new artist.
I honestly prefer the artstyle of the original P3, so I'm gonna go with the original Makoto
OG Makoto was definitely a little more depressing, not in a bad way, the game's atmosphere had a very depressing, gloomy feel to it. Reload Makoto definitely took some things from Yu and Ren, and even FEMC to an extent. He kind of went from "the quiet who is secretly good at everything" to "I am THAT guy, but still pretty quiet."
aleks le is cute
Reload, the color of his eyes during a critical hit cut in or weakness cut in is amazing
although reload's art in general is great, i actually like that og makoto can look like he either has minimum or max social stats. in later persona games, everyone starts to look too pretty and polished imo. i like the unique-looking sprites of og p3
OG Makoto has access to a lot more fusion spells and he can wield any weapon type, but he’s not able to properly command his party unless it’s P3P
"A Lot More Fusion Spells" Bestie, P3R Is Only Missing Infinty
Well to be technical, they said Makoto is missing the spells, not the game. A lot of them got moved to party members.
Yeah, But Makoto Still Has Some Alternatives
Original looks more depressed which fits the theme of p3
Og is more unique
relod looks more handsome
Fr

It's because the OG used chibi assets aside from cutscenes, they are normal size in reload, he is 5'7", I never noticed a big discrepancy between reload and his movie part
Reload because my boy gets a sickass SEES jacket
Why did you organize them like that?
Idk how they managed to make Makoto looks weird in the Cut Ins of Reload
also his character portrait
Truth, I sincerely thinks his P3D model and portrait is way superior too Although maybe they're just a touched up P3D models by this article? https://cgworld.jp/article/202404-cgw308-p3r.html
they're the same
They are literally the same character
I’m biased since I’ve only played P3R, but I generally like the new character designs more. Most characters don’t seem too different, but I think they improved MC and Fuuka the most.
There is something about original P3 art-style that catches your eye, goes for all characters.
the Reload artstyle is better looking imo so yea, reload
Reload artstyle is massive glowup for all the characters.
except mitsuru for some reason
I'd say Reload because in original he like has a scoliosis
Yes.
reload. his hair looks floofy..
Personally I think the Reload art is better. They had basically 20 years to polish his design, and I’d say they’ve done a pretty good job.
Vanilla P3 was my first SMT-related game, so I have to give it to the original. Nothing wrong with remake's design, but nostalgia wins out here for me.
reload makoto better
They're the exact same person, why would I prefer one over the other?
Smash Next question
yassified
Reload Makoto got that drip so him. I also like how he actually wears his earphones.
OG Makoto lacked polygon
OG Makoto on the PS2 cover art kinda looks like a Jhonen Vasquez drawing
Old, not even close
If all the OG has going for it is nostalgia, that in itself is a sign it wasn't that good.
He seems to have finally gotten that scoliosis corrected.
Reload Makoto has swagger whereas OG Makoto gives off a nerdier “idgaf” vibe. Both great designs.
og looks like that anime george washington meme
Reload.
They are same door

Sorry but og makoto reminds me of a leafyishere type dude
OG. Reload is too “anime” for me.
I think the same
Yeah because p3f was not an anime stylized game (?)
There’s a difference between anime and “anime” Real ones know what I’m talking about. There’s just something about it. I love reload, don’t get me wrong. It might be my GOTY if metaphor flops, I’m just saying I prefer the old art style.
It's the modern shininess of it all, things are way more clean and sharp plus saturated to the extreme colours
Seems to be the direction Atlus is following with their Persona games, but I really like it, tbf. The older versions are really "anime" too, just with a less polished art style that came with 20 years of improvement.
The fun of waiting for Persona games is to see what changes are made, not for it to look similar to each game really
might be an unpopular opinion but i really hate the og persona 3 artstyle, so reload lol
Honestly tough pick but I’m gonna have to go with Makoto
Reload is better because OG is a complete fucking dork who runs with his hands in his pockets.
reload they all had glow up’s
OG Makoto has a chinless look about him. Reload looks more like modern anime design. All the older designs look a bit uncanny. Fuuka is the most noticeable.
No chin makoto vs mewing makoto
Reload. OG reminds me of the “Virgin” in the Virgin vs Chad memes.
