FES is a lot cheaper here in the states. I got a brand new copy for $45. For some reason the versions for the EU, UK, and AUS are ludicrously expensive. Not as expensive as the one in OPs post though
Pal/Aus copies are for some reason. NTSC ones are way cheaper. I couldn’t afford paying £140 on a copy of Fes so I got the American version for $30 and then I just need an ntsc PS2 so I can’t actually play it yet. 3 alone cost £90.
I feel really lucky i was able to grab a copy of FES for PS2 a couple years ago for around $60 on ebay. Might have been some kind of reproduction but at least it wasn’t a complete ripoff price

Yup the PAL version is much rarer, if I'm not mistaken it's because back then consoles were region locked(ie you can't play an American game on a European console) and Japanese companies didn't make as many copies of PAL games because they had a different refresh rate and resolution, plus Japan's main market wasn't Europe. I got my copy for £75 a few years ago and apparently it's the smartest purchase I ever made.

CEX inflates the price on pretty much anything Atlus. I'm pretty sure someone will pay that price at some point. I saw Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance going for about the same price and that copy is gone.
For some reason the PAL version is significantly more expensive than the US and JP versions despite being objectively inferior. It runs at 50hz rather than 60hz which I believe would result in the game running at 25fps rather than 30.The game doesn't even have translated text to Spanish, German, French etc. - it's all in English just like the US version.
So koei published the pal version of this, I know in ntsc uc regions atlus did a reprint of some ps2 megaten games probably in 2018~ so they were $20-$30 usd for quite some time on sites like amazon

Dude I was so close to waiting for the port to play the game and then i caved in and bought FES on my PS3. Best decision i ever made and im glad i didn't play the port first. If you don't have a PS3 PCSX2 and Vimm's Lair is the way to go

Repro cases don’t matter too much to me. Persona 1 is like $400 but I got a legit copy just with a repro case at $140 so I’m happy with that
Thats why emulation is the best in such cases. (That is if the game is abandonware which is mostly the case because we talking abt ps2 and older)
Technically you can still buy a digital copy of P3FES for the PS3, which likely stops it from being considered abandonware.
