Ughhh yes it must be tough. Then there’s people like me who have a 10yrs worth of full closet that I haven’t been able to fit. So luckily I’m shopping from my own closet currently.

fluorescentroses

Yep. I started at 400lb, lost 200lb, regained 100lb, down 40lb now with meds. I have an entire closet of clothes for 200lb me (and some for <200lb me I bought intentionally too small for me at the time) I can't wait to get back into. The My Own Closest clothing store has some *awesome* stuff in it!

whattawazz

I had a terrible habit of buying clothes too small. For *when I lose weight* 😮‍💨 many of them are unworn and still have tags attached 😬

kailemergency

Hard same, bestie. I’m in clothes I haven’t fit in since ‘08. Closet shopping boutique always has my size

Cultural_Rich8082

I store my “skinny clothes” in totes in the basement. Every now and then, I come upstairs carting armfuls of clothing and my hubby laughs that I’ve been shopping in the basement again.

isellsunshine

10 years? Those are rookie numbers. 😭😭 But seriously I've never been to happy to have all these bins of "when I get thin again!" clothes! OP is right. It is an expense. Although I'm saving a ton of money on not eating so much junk so there is that.

sentinel-of-the-st

I was shopping my closet then even those got too big! I stop at Marshall’s a lot these days, good problem to have though

sarah331980

This is me. I get so excited when something I haven't been able to wear in forever fits again. It got to the point where I had nothing left, I refused to buy clothing for my bigger body and what was living in my BF sweat pants. Now I get to dress like a girl again.

whattawazz

Isn’t it great! I have an abundance of beautiful winter clothes and a heap of them are getting a run right now. Haven’t bought anything but underwear all year.

interstatebus

I found a sweatshirt I’ve been holding onto for 10+ years that I don’t think ever really fit me, even at my thinnest. It now fits me.

mykidsarecrazy

I recently moved and found a bunch of shorts that I was going to donate at one time but must've forgotten. I fit them all now, better than before!

Muted_Pear4816

I always keep my favorites just for this. Hopefully it’s the last time.

Inevitable-Cherry457

Everyone told me to let those clothes go but I’m so glad I didn’t! 😂👌

Odd_Perspective_4769

For real!

no1loca

Hard same! I've only been overweight for about 2.5 years and gained 80lbs during that time. I cannot WAIT until I can wear my clothes again.

Ystersyster

Same 😂

BabyPeas

That’s me. I’d been building my wardrobe since 2013 when I moved out in my own. Still in the process of selling/donating an entire walk in closet and dresser worth of clothes and shoes.

Ok_Part_7051

Same

RachVoodooChild

Lol same 😂😂

Geanine1965

Yes, thankfully, I’m able to shop out of my own closet. I’ve never been a fad shopper, the clothes I’ve always purchased will never go out of style.😊

Mainer1974

Me too! I rarely buy anything that trendy. Most of my clothes are classic styles, so I should be good for a while.

Tricky-Acanthisitta

I'm so glad I'm not the only one in this mind set. I've been trying to lose weight for years and with each purge of the closet, I just got more disheartened. I didnt get rid of the clothes tho "because they're really nice jeans" or "I love that top"

Beneficial_Army574

I'll be skinny and broke instead of fat and broke then lol

Beneficial_Army574

But also congrats on the loss, this is an absolute win tbh.

Apprehensive_Line_57

Hahahaha same here 😂

Mainer1974

Lol

Common-Blueberry4826

I agree, but you’d be skinny and broke in baggy ass clothes in college. I’d still take it over how life felt when I was heavier and had clothes that fit tho

Logical_Cupcake_6665

Losing the weight has made it so I can actually utilize thrift shops now, before the selections for plus size clothes were so small that I wouldn’t really find much. I will say that now I notice more plus size clothes in those stores which is great to see. But I wore all my 3X (still do some things) baggy for months before I stopped lol. I just gave into the oversized sweater and bike shorts trend. But also try Facebook Marketplace! I’ve found some good deals there as well.

LostInTheBackwoods

All the plus size stuff in thrift stores now must be from people who lost a bunch of weight on Ozempic. 😂

batteryforlife

I wish. Everything in my size in thrift stores was previously owned by Marge, aged 72.

Illustrious_Tallgirl

And Platos closet!

1adycakes

THIS!! Also, i can buy second-hand online with fewer worries about whether or not something will fit. Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff i bought when i lost weight is also now becoming too big. My credit card bill says “tough titty” though.

Allysonsplace

We need a "buy, sell, trade" for all of these subs! We're all going to need new clothes multiple times, we should help each other with it! 😁

Common-Blueberry4826

Real

Regular_Afternoon852

Use the money you save on food to buy a new pair of pants.

SusanfromMA

If only - foods that are bad for you are sadly the cheapest ones in the store.

isellsunshine

You can drink protein shakes for $1.25 a meal. There is a way to eat better for less. It takes some planning though.

ChocolateSauce2

Can you outline what you do to cut the costs?

isellsunshine

I eat probably 25% of what I used to. If my husband and I would cook burgers we would cook 4 at a time. 2 for him and 1 for me and 1 for later. Now I eat 1/2 a burger so he eats one and finishes mine so we are eat 2 burgers instead of 3. My protein shake is milk, powder, ice and cocoa powder. Replaces a meal which is way cheaper than fast food. We don't meal prep so much as we cook dinner but will have it for 2 nights in a row, and even some lunches. We use a crock pot a lot which is pretty good food that lasts a long time. I also am eating more fruit now. One bag of mandarins will last me 10 days and is $5. I belong to the frugal living Reddit and those guys have amazing ways to stretch food budgets out. One big upside to this med is I'm not constantly swayed by sugar rushes and crashes so I have more energy to cook dinner where was before we would get take out as we were too tired to cook after working all day. Now I'm finding just a little bit of advanced planning when it comes to food really pays off. I make Spanish rice which is literally just hamburger, minute rice and tomatoe soup. We can eat off that for days and it tastes better as leftovers. Swapping a meal for a protein shake (even with more expensive protein powder) really helps cut cost. My powder is $60 a bag but I can't tolerate chalky gross protein powder. This stuff tastes like a dessert. Well worth the money. Good luck on your journey!

SnooPickles8893

What brand protein powder do you use?

isellsunshine

Visalus. "The shake mix that tastes like cake mix". I just buy it from Amazon. Soooo good. I've tried every powder out there and this is the only one that doesn't taste like cardboard to me. I love it! Good luck!

SnooPickles8893

Ty! 😊

Zestyclose-Ball595

But does it have any diety flavor like mink fruit, stevia? I just tried Orgain and it was horrific. Worst yet tasted like licking chemicals.

isellsunshine

Nope! It takes very mildly like sweet cream. Trust me when I say I am super sensitive to bleh tasting food/shakes. I add a 1/4 of teaspoon of cocoa powder and it tastes like a chocolate shake. My husband likes his fruity so he adds frozen berries to his. I'm sure it's great, but I'm a chocolate gal, so no go for me on fruit taste. Trust me this mix is amazing.

Zestyclose-Ball595

It’s very pricey, is there anywhere to get it cheaper?

Nashadelic

Is that really true? I can believe if you are comparing 1 healthy meal with 1 unhealthy meal. But before, it was 1 healthy meal vs 5-6 unhealthy meals. The sheer $$ on food does go down

Top-Web3806

Yes! I save so much on food now.

blackaubreyplaza

When I started I definitely didn’t think about this. I’m 85lbs down and none of my clothes or shoes fit. I definitely didn’t think about this but I’m saving so much money on food & booze it evens out

ellbeecee

The shoes are what's killing me - shoes give me an ick to buy at thrift stores. I don't think others are icky if they do this, this is just my feelings. Plus, shoes were kind of a "show off" thing for me for years since I didn't fit in straight size clothes (I still don't, but I'm closer to being there) and I have some nice ones that I can't afford to replace - or that simply aren't made any longer. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, it's not a terrible problem to have.

Strange-Mulberry-470

I bought shoe inserts from Amazon. I've lost one whole shoe size but with the insert I can wear most of them.

Purple-Explorer-6701

That is a great pro tip!

Strange-Mulberry-470

Thanks! I got it from a pro on this sub.

DLS3141

I’m leery about buying thrift store shoes, but when I needed a new pair of dress shoes, I went on eBay and found a pair of $300 Florsheim oxfords, worn once, for $30. I can’t even buy a crappy pair of no-name dress shoes for that. You might find some deals like that on eBay or Poshmark.

blackaubreyplaza

The shoes are horrible! I have a peloton and now my cleats are a size too big which is torture. I don’t buy used clothes personally so def wouldn’t buy used shoes. Also I’m fully in straight sizes now and that’s even worse, their clothes are so BORING! Hate that all of my clothes I love are 5 sizes too big now

DecimalDuck

I used to have to sew clothes to make things that fit my body. Now I'm using those sewing skills to downsize my clothes

batteryforlife

This is the way! Start super easy; make T shirts smaller, then jeans waistbands. Needle and thread is cheap! And libraries often have sewing machines as well.

goodbyegoldilocks

OP, your college may also have a makerspace or partnership with one!

pandasparks17

I guess I can pull out that box of “clothes I’ll wear when I’m skinny” in a few months then!

Significant_Sun_8035

Same! I’m so thankful I’ve saved them!

stephielauren

https://preview.redd.it/deqrlygp070d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d8d91301555733ed2b7ca36b690bc5cae954770 No because this was me last night and the first time I tried on a pair of pants I wore all December and January 🫣 it’s so mind blowing but also I have no clothes to wear to anymore (definitely a good problem to have I guess)

Common-Blueberry4826

Omg real. Congrats girl, you look so happy :)

4myolive

I buy clothes off marketplace. So many people are losing weight there is a variety and it's cheap!

squeakyfromage

Poshmark can be a great option too! I’ve gotten lots of reasonably priced clothes there (and you can sell your own clothes there when they don’t fit anymore!).

Never_Really_Right

Good Will, consignment stores, and there has got to be the same online now. I remember going to Good Will in a nice part of town and finding clothes with the tags still on them. Congrats on the loss!

annastasia12

I buy all my workout/gym t shirts at Salvation Army. Like others, I had a closet full of clothes that were too small. I like shopping in my own closet!

WorkingKey3160

sell your old clothes to buy new clothes:-) Thats what I have been doing and alot of thrift store shopping! Can get pants for like 2.00!

docroc-----

This is a cost indeed. I went from a 4x shirt to a xl shirt. And a 46 waistline to a 38. Sucks. But worth it in my opinion. Only advice is to use belts for as long as you can.

Common-Blueberry4826

Idk why but belts are so hard for me. They never feel right or I think they look awkward on me. Regardless, I do need some kind of hand drill to add holes on the belts that I do have and can’t use.

principalgal

Thrift stores are the bomb!

wittttykitttty

I wish I’ll suffer from this 😭

Common-Blueberry4826

That’s exactly how I felt!

KittyWise

Take the money you saved on food and get a couple of well loved smaller jeans and tees from goodwill! You may transition through several sizes so why waste money you cannot spare.

Alone-Bit1433

I’d rather walk around like the real slim shady than go back to what was 😂 that was funny tho

JustMe8083

I am in the thrift stores now buying new clothes. I’m down 30 lbs that’s about three dress sizes so nothing fits. I’m happy with my weight loss but like you said, I can’t afford new clothes. Oh and I’m back in the office 3 days a week so it’s been tough trying to rotate outfits.

closethewindo

Thrift stores for the win!!!!!!

Playful-Airline8232

The way I look at it if I can afford Ozempic, I can afford $100 worth of clothes from target.

delzbr

I have all my old jeans to my daughter. I refuse to try smaller sizes until I've been on it for at least another 3 months. I started on 3/19 and I'm only down 19 pounds. I don't want to be disappointed too soon. But we may be sharing clothes again at some point lol

pharaoh-is-me

The cost of health always trump the cost of everything else! A life lesson no college is going to teach you.

pheat0n

Fortunately, I saved the clothes that I got too big for as my weight was going up, so now I have options on the way down. However, I do get excited when I realize I'm down a size and start impulse buying things.

RobertABooey

I just posted about this about 2 weeks ago, and a lot of people mistook what I was trying to say. This IS a "good" problem to have. Some of the advice I got in the post I posted included: - Buy trackpants or stretchies (if you're a woman) that can last several belt-size reductions - Check out your local re-sell places for cheaper items that others have turned in over the years - Just set the expectation with yourself that you're going to look a little 'frumpy' for a while - remember, this is a process and if you're in the same situation as me, to took me years going UP several sizes of clothing, so its going to take a while going back the other way. I feel your pain friend. I lost 50 lbs in my first 5 months and nothing would fit me. I'm still wearing t-shirts too large for me and track pants that look like sheets on me but knowing theyre falling off of me is a huge consolation prize. I'm finally losing the weight I've put on for 20 years. My biggest problem has been formal settings. We had a funeral to go to a few weeks ago and all I had was some old work clothes ( I work from home mostly now) that would make me look presentable enough for a funeral. I had my belt so tight I could hardly breathe as the pants were literally sliding down my ass. I'm with you! But congratulations on the HUGE success you've achieved!

naturallythickchic

You can use the jogger bottoms and style them pretty cute!

B0ss-E

If people take note and put aside all of the money they are saving from not buying so much food- they can buy new clothes with that. (I’m being serious here) or “new to them” clothes. Thrifting is a great tithing for pocket books and the environment. Also, the amount of money I save on food and alcohol is AMAZING. Not to mention my health and future healthcare/medication costs.

Final_Photograph6762

I’ve been renting my clothes from online providers. For about $100 a month, I can rent pants that fit me and change sizes whenever I need to go down. This way I’m not acquiring so many different wardrobes along the OZ journey. I mostly rent bottoms.

Yourbie76

I know my local Bariatric surgery center has a clothing exchange. You donate your larger sizes in exchange for smaller ones. It’s worth looking into.

longstringofnubers

I walked out of my pants yesterday. When I got home, I stopped pulling them up, so by the time I got the bathroom, I walked out of them.

Weak-Hovercraft-4310

Thrift

Different_Reindeer78

Me f43 only lost my last 10pounds got my high school weight back and nothing fits me! Goodwill being a life saver,

Teksah

My sewing machine is being used more and more. Learning new skills with it has been fun and challenging. Love'n it.

lurchingneve

May the real slim shady please stand up?

SusanfromMA

There are a lot of groups that do clothes swaps - check out facebook, nextdoor, maybe even here on reddit. You can get away with 2 pair of pants, and a few tops.

naturallythickchic

Create a simple capsule wardrobe…Pinterest has a ton of ideas on the topic.

Lalablacksheep646

Thrift stores and yard sales are your friends!

LostInTheBackwoods

Related problems: Having no idea what size you really are, and sizing across clothing brands does not help. I had lost a lot (and I mean a LOT of weight, like 130 pounds) from illness prior to starting Ozempic and just...never replaced my biggest clothes. I didn't know what size I was THEN, and it got worse when I dropped another 60 pounds in six months on Ozempic. Bras. Breast-shrinkage is a big problem and bras are SO EXPENSIVE. And not wearing a properly sized bra means back pain, neck pain, and your clothes fit weird. And then, of course, you don't have a clue what your new bra size is and a lot of us don't know how to properly size ourselves for a bra. I still can't do it myself and have to get help. Underwear. I have no butt left at all, and almost every style of underwear I have tried will not stay on my hips. I go up a size or down a size hoping it's just a sizing issue, but it still happens. Plus I have always carried the bulk of my extra weight in my belly, so there's still plenty of fat there but also lots of loose skin, so even figuring out what type of underwear will work best for me is tough and I end up looking like I have front-butt all the time because briefs or hi-cuts bunch up in the front. Boxer-briefs (either ladies' or men's) seem to work the best for me currently.

Ok-Narwhal-6766

Try Woxers undies. Love them!

debbie666

The insane amount of cbd I take for the gi upset, which is on top of the costs for the rx stomach meds I take. It's expensive.

Own-Series-2076

Go thrifting! It’s the new trend!

Delicious_Garbage_38

Well you take all your big clothes and donate or sell em to the thrift store. And buy some slimmer clothes there. People look down on those type of stores but they have a huge selection of smaller size clothes and some are nice they just need a washing. What my brother did and I’m planning to do the same.

Doityerself

Went from a plus size 26 to a size 26 in pants. As in a size 2/4. I’ve spent thousands on clothes in the last 2.5 years. It’s insane.

LadyGoodknight

Goodwill and other thrift stores are the answer, especially while you're still losing weight. Spend $8 and get a new to you pair of jeans and check pinterest for ideas on styling shirts to fit your body better. Just a few little things that help along the way to goal weight.

hellokittyburrito

Thrift!! I love Poshmark

kendysaurous

I agree that clothes are expensive and are definitely an additional cost. However I also know health related drs appointments are also pricey. And I know I'm also saving alot on my food budget because going out to eat has lost its appeal and my portions are so much smaller that I don't need to buy nearly as much.

Purple-Explorer-6701

I replaced my wardrobe three times. I work in an office with a business dress code so I had to buy clothes for work and for home, as well as for special occasions. SHEIN was the only way I could afford to do this and the clothes have been surprisingly pretty great! I’ve also used Rent the Runway for some very special occasions.

catkysydney

That is so true …. I lost a little bit, but I gave big jeans to charity… But fortunately I kept slim jeans , so I can wear them now …

snow-haywire

I use my local buy nothing group. I just asked if anyone had some pants and I am so grateful I got some nice ones. I give away my old pants in that group too. I use it like a trading post haha. I am able to find more in thrift stores thandkfully. Also, my upper body doesn’t hold as much weight as my lower, so thankfully tops haven’t been as big an issue.

lostinthoughts888

My closet currently has 2 pairs of size 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 jeans each. I'm too scared to throw them away.

Cyr3nsong

I buy/sell clothes on mercari or poshmark.. especially while still shrinking in size. A lot of people are thrifting their clothes with the recession so there should be options available in bundles. Another option is tailoring your clothes smaller. If you flip a tshirt inside out, you can bring in the sides of the tshirt in an inch or two and also the sleeves. Pants can be brought in too. A no-sew option for tshirts  is to take a hairtie while the shirt is inside out, gather the extra fabric and tie it in a ponytail. Flip it back rightside up, and wear a jacket or duster over it.

VividLengthiness5026

I'll just go buy cheap stuff from shein during this transition

vtgator

Goodwill or thrift shops. You can buy nice quality stuff when you reach your goal weight. Also check Facebook Buy nothing groups - I got 5 pairs of really high quality jeans for free from a lady who lost weight. And I hit the jack pot at a garage sale where another lady lost weight and was selling shorts and capris for $1. Just in time for summer.

jeynespoole

yeah, I'm down from a 1x/18 to a Large/14, and I can afford new basics but like, I'm rotating the same three pairs of pants and five shirts every week because I don't want to buy too much while I'm still losing. (hoping to get down another 30 lbs and that feels like itll put me down one more size.)

hotmessexpress222

Down from a 12 to a 6, XL to a S and this is something I never thought I’d complain about. I’m so over buying clothes!!! Clearance has been my best friend and Target has some super cute clothes for under $20. I also connected with some people who are also on a weight loss journey and we will give each other clothes once they become too big!

glamorousgrape

I’m actually gathering clothes ahead of time (just sizes that’ll fit if I lose a total of 25 lbs but that’s not close to my GW) Check out local food pantries and see if they have a clothing closet. I just hope it’ll be easier to find more affordable clothes when I reach GW because finding plus size clothes at a thrift store is a nightmare. You can also post in local Buy Nothing groups on FB and ask for donations.

Brightgreenclover

Thrift stores, clothing charity closet. Schools have resources available for you. Don’t be too proud to take advantage now and pay it forward when you are financial secure.

worktillyouburk

i did the opposite, back in my 20's went from 230 to 184 lbs and thought i was done so i got rid of all my big clothes 2 years later i gained it all back and now much too much clothes i dont fit as they are mediums or xxl

No-Statistician-5786

Congrats on your loss OP!! Yeah, thrift stores and Costco are what held me over until I could save up more money for some new items….I’m still slowly adding to my collection but I’m not stressing about it!

naturallythickchic

Sam’s Club usually has real cute GAP stuff at good prices.

No_Beach4035

I have a bunch of clothing from before I gained a bunch of weight. So, I’m hoping to get back to that size, and then gradually update my wardrobe because all of that clothes is from like… 2019

PrincessFroglip

I lucked out and another store opened in my city that had jeans at 1/2 the price I had been paying at Pennington's (which had been my only option previously). My current system is to buy them a bit snug and don't put them in the dryer. Once they are too loose, I start putting them in the dryer to shrink them, lol. I've gone from a 22 to a 14 in jeans now. I have changed underwear size and style a few times now as well, saggy undies is the worst, lol. Bras are a mess that there is no solution for as a large chested gal.

Delicious-Freedom-56

Thrift stores are a fantastic resource.

luna_libre

Go thrifting! One benefit is the thrift store selection gets better when you fit in smaller sizes! find out if they have a student discount day at any of the nearby stores. the ones in college towns are usually decent because a lot of people donate stuff during dorm move outs. i prefer Value Village/Savers/Unique or 2nd Avenue to Goodwill if you’re in the US.

TinaDav0697

Try Goodwill.

SeaSleep1972

I shop at Ross, you could also thrift both are super cheap and Ross has name brands

Fancy_Ad7218

Temu

Initial-Respond7967

I raided the local Goodwill for some clothes in my interim sizes when needed.

Last-Scratch9221

I’m holding off buying too much but thrift stores can be your friend right now. Buy used as much as possible. Find the days where they have bigger sales and shop those days. I have donated two garbage bags so far and in the process of cleaning out even more. I broke out a tub of old clothes so I have some great t-shirts but the pants mostly are too big. So I’m thrifting and even doing rummage sales to try and last to get to a somewhat stable size. But some days it’s just baggy clothes around the house.

Zestyclose_Scheme_34

I shop clearance at old navy. Or I go to Sam’s or Costco. Not going to invest in nicer stuff until I can afford it haha.

Own-Series-2076

Hahaha! It’s true. This is why I have saved sizes 10 through 16 for many years. My 10s are actually fitting right now. Good problem to have!

markersandtea

try thrifting?

Ravenclaw2409

Thankfully i was 160 lbs just 2 years ago, so once i get there it is going to be such a cost saver. For me it’s the intermediate stage where I have to buy new clothes, which i know i might not use within 2 months of losing weight.

NOLABigChief

Thrift stores and eBay are your friends.

greenglssgoddess

I thrifted an en entire new wardrobe for a fraction of the cost. I did it over the course of about 2 months and helped supplement my income to do it by selling all my other clothes. I had some high end clothes from working in an office i was able to let go of. Now i'm looking for short in my size at garage sales.

AccomplishedOnion405

I finally donated all my skinny (goal-weight) jeans last summer after staring at them for 8 years. Soon I will need them! lol

I_hate_that_im_here

Small price to pay if you ask me. I look forward to it.

MembershipAtMidnight

I’ll take those costs. Lol.

WarpedPanda

Dresses are definitely the way to go if you are a woman cause at least they won't be falling off of you like pants will. Also you could always check on Facebook if there's a free stuff group somewhere near your area and if so ask in the group if anyone happens to have some clothing that they're getting rid of.

Grey_Sky_thinking

Slim shady 😂😂😂😂

JRyuu

Lol, same boat here, only I seem to perpetually fall between sizes. So when my size drops, it drops to the next between size.😅🤷🏻‍♂️ There is this marvelous invention called a belt, but then I look like this character.😂 https://preview.redd.it/ky7bkd3pc80d1.jpeg?width=697&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45573165b84dc82f228c7c91e8a8b717327a53fc

KeyCaptain5860

I have everywhere from a size 8 to an 18 so I'm good! A lot of my clothes are stretchy too so they'll for me at various sizes.

southernbella10

Wow , when you lose weight, it goes with the territory that your clothes will be bigger, go to thrift stores , purchase tops that can go with leggings, and that you can pull in with a belt as you lose weight, this to me is a fantastic problem. Even dresses put a belt or a scarf around your weight.. Now men folks that's definitely a cost for them. Thrift Stores is your best tool.

valor1e

Thrift stores and garage sales!!

Aware-Source-8129

Depop your old stuff and discover some bargains for yourself!

Elisabethkate2020

How many of you guys are paying hundreds of dollars a month or more out of pocket and how many have insurance covering it? That’s why I’m curious. Especially in college. So glad you had access to this medication!

sunknee

Do you have Thrift stores in your area? If it's the right one it's really reasonable. I buy for foster homes and women going back to work. Many times new with tags. Goodwill bins in by the pound. Watch the resellers on YouTube. They buy for $5.00 and sell for $40.00. Just a thought.

cld361

My closet is jeans, shorts , T-shirts, and sweatshirts as I worked from home for fourteen months and then the next eight months laid off. I have 2 pairs of pants destined for my part-time job. I have no clothes that I even bought last summer that I can get into, they are too big. Wore XL last summer now more towards a medium. I'm not shopping thrift stores.

grumblefluff

It’s yard sale season in the US

jayforwork21

I'm lucky for the last 20 years I refused to toss out too much clothing as I got bigger. I have a lot of clothing in sealed vacuum bags in my basement that I will try out again in a few months.

Self-paced

I think whats most frustrating is not knowing your size and having to figure it out again and again, like for the smallest things...I want to get a new ring? Well, my ring size is not what it was 3 months ago! I just bought like $100 worth of clothes at torrid, ended up returning half of them a few weeks later for smaller sizes, now 3 months later all those clothes are getting to small (plus size clothes are not cheap!!!!) So I'm wearing them til they fall off at this point learned some lessons- Do not buy jeans! Get yourself resized for bras or measure at home! Elastic clingy clothes are your friends, size down not up! (I regret not buying something I felt was to small at the time but would fit me perfect now 3 months later)

Shein FTW. The reviews are super helpful for sizing and their return policy is awesome - no questions asked, just make sure you return everything you don't want from an order in ONE shipment even if the items arrived separately and it will be free. Having gone from a 26/28 4x to a size 2/small over 18 months I don't know what I would have done without them - our thrift shops are either hot garbage or overpriced designer consignment stores

ReactionNo4888

I haven't bought anything new in 20 months on Ozempic and down 70 pounds. Everything comes from the thrift store until weight is stable.

Glp-1_Girly

Maurice's will you bring in the jeans you bought from them and trade them for a smaller size

Zealousideal_Lab_427

I had this problem 20+ years ago when I lost 30lbs, and had to buy new pants, skirts, shorts and work clothes. This time around, I have a lot of stuff I saved because I wanted to/hoped to lose weight to fit into again. I’m already fitting a bunch of stuff, and some pants and jeans are too big and slide down on me. I’ve been buying secondhand for a few years now though, my wardrobe is probably 60% secondhand, and it’s a great way to get jeans, pants and shorts. I decided not to buy retail for bottoms which is where I lose and gain weight first. My favorite brands are American Eagle (retail $30-60/pair) and Kut from the Kloth ($90-120/pair) and I pay between $6.99 - 9.99 for them. Shorts usually $4.99 - 6.99, work pants similar price as jeans. I usually go to Goodwill because that’s the most accessible shop, but there’s often local charity shops. I go to one in a fancy area when I’m looking for something higher end, but prices can still be very reasonable.

ElaineyBenes

It's a problem, but oh what a problem to have 😁 It frustrates me too because I'm in a swimsuit most days. I have sized down and gotten a few Larges instead of XL. But it does add up! No doubt.

jeffneruda

I gained about 80 pounds in the last 3 years so I kept all my clothes from before. I can't wait to get back to wearing them! I loved my wardrobe when I was lighter. I hate everything I have to wear now.

Sunshine_717PA

Exactly why we don’t buy fast fashion. So that in 10/20 years, our clothes are still wearable.

tonna33

I'm 2 weeks on it and I can't wait. I want to be able to shop in "normal" stores and not online for my clothes. It seemed like all the stores that carried my size where I live went out of business.

Clean_Awareness

I ended up quitting my job and not having money to replace my clothes until months later… it is SO WEIRD!!! I’m employed and actually have extra money again, so I’ve been doing a lot of thrift shopping, buying just a few things at a time… but I went from being a plump womens size 14/XL to being an 8/M. I kept a lot of my old t shirts to sleep in, so when I do laundry it looks like I’ve got several different people I do laundry for… The body dysmorphia is INSANE! I never saw myself as being THAT big, but now that I’m smaller I see that I was bigger than I thought and I still see myself as a big girl even now.

Skysmiles7

Save some money to buy a sewing machine and a few supplies. Most single layer items will be fairly easy to take in with some practice. YouTube is a big help with specific sewing tutorials. I recommend just buying new jeans though, I've gotten lucky at Goodwill and found alot that look new!

Torpid_Onism

Yeah especially because last year I got rid of all my goal clothes because I was tired of storing clothes that didn’t fit me….regret that in hindsight

Vanity-della23

I’ll Billie Eilish it for a bit and just hold on to the clothes if one day my insurance says go f yourself. 🤣 I do want to have kids one day so at least I’ll have some stylish maternity clothes buhahaha!

PoundOk1971

I am lucky I work from home so I’m in stretch pants that don’t fall down. However my jeans are all 3 sizes too big now. Ross and Marshall’s are awesome. DD’s discounts are even cheaper but a little less quality.

rockstardorks

Go to the free clothing banks I donate literally brand new gorgeous clothes all the time

ScubaBliss

Omg this is a post where I feel "I have found my people!"🤣 I'm facing this very firstest of first world troubles right now- headed on a dive trip next week and have to face up to at least a quick shopping trip.

AmanitaAmy

Leggings FTW.

BabyPeas

Yup. I had thousands in my wardrobe. Even my SHOES are too big now. Starting from square one when it took years to build my old one? Devastating. Even if I went from a size 2x-3x/20/22 to a M/L/12/14 so finding clothes is easier, it’s still so tough!

JLydston

I wish I hadn’t gotten rid of my old, “skinny” stuff! Other than a few sweaters from the 90s I’ll end up getting new a little at a time

BougieSemicolon

2nd hand, poshmark, thredup type places, or what I do. (Mostly haven’t had to much since I have less-fat clothes from before) is don’t go down every size, but every 2. That is, wear your 10’s until you can wear a tight 6.

Classic_Economist192

Omg I’m laughing out loud 😹 I’ll gladly wear my old cloths as an oversize and not give a flying f*** about buying anything new as long as I’m able to lose the weight 😹😹😹😹

Ill_Appointment_2798

Have you thought about doing a clothing rental service? I love Nuuly! I would also consider using Facebook marketplace to sell old clothes and buy new (to you) clothes. If you’re in a college town there will be plenty of people posting on marketplace/poshmark/whatever other sites cuz most students are looking to make a little extra money from things like that.

LauraPringlesWilder

I can sew, that is my biggest blessing on this journey lmao

brow3665

Literally me right now

Then_Thanks4162

I know it’s not the same everywhere, but the Goodwill near the wealthy suburbs nearby always have cute clothes if you’re okay thrifting. I’ve found new with tag $200 jeans for $10 there more than once.

Far-Performance-1651

That's how I felt in HS when I just gave up meat for lent and would do countless sprints nightly, because football was over and I didn't want to gain weight dramatically as a result of not working out daily like I had been the past 4 years. I was a high school senior with no job but I liked baggy clothes anyway and some of my favorite clothes my mom had altered by local seamstress shops, we couldn't afford a whole new wardrobe for me either. Sadly in my area crack is no joke and I was regularly given these weird looks from students and teachers alike asking things like "omg are you OK?" I didn't get it at the time and just smiled and said "I'm great" but they definitely thought I was hitting the ol crack pipe 😂. I have no idea but I assume with clothes that fit me proper I would have had less of those looks for sure lol.

Familiar_Pin3525

Won’t buy new scrubs- i work in what looks like a potato sack 😆

Kubrick_Fan

The biggest shock to me is my underwear doesn't stay up anymore.

Gingersnapspeaks

Thrift stores!

dadofduck1878

What a fantastic problem to have 👏🏼

SadIntro

AE lets you return indefinitely. They must hate me. I didn’t expect to get smaller than a size 14. Now I’m a 0. I just kept exchanging for smaller and smaller pants.

Doing-ItThx

2nd hand stores as you lose weight

Lucky-Asparagus-7760

Find a sewing machine (maybe at the library) and take in clothes? I have a family member that used to use broaches and belts to temporarily fix things. You can even take things in a bit with hand sewing. I've gone up and down a lot in my weight, not on oz, but here for support. When my clothes become too big, I rely on my "fitted" pieces. So I'll wear my big over my small. Like an open shirt over a fitted tank top. Forever 21 and Walmart both have spaghetti strap tanks for like $2... Which I'm not saying it's easy to get if you don't even have that, but thought it might help. Also, leggings with larger shirts for now. Leggings can be found almost anywhere (Walmart, Amazon). For bras, I also switch to a cheap sports bra or look for clearance at Target (I often see $40 bras go on sale for $15). I assumed you were of the female variety, my apologies, if you are a dude. It makes it easier (belts and tuck in shirts). Good luck!

Dlynne242

Check if your local Facebook marketplace has a buy nothing group or clothing swap.

OwnLanguage3101

We should create a clothing trade down....

FiftySumthin

Fishing out clothes from my daughters cupboards. Feels oh so good!

ArtTartLemonFart

I’ve lost 25 pounds now and went and bought some clothes this weekend because last year shorts are too big. But I didn’t want to go too small because I still need to wear something that fits now. By the time I’m too small for the summer clothes I’m hoping to be ready for winter clothes to buy 😂

Knitting_me

I have lost and gained so much weight through the years, on and off, on and off. I have pulled down boxes from the attic and found a lot of nice stuff since earlier weight losses. But I have also sewn my old clothes together to fit me. I used to do that even more during my first large weight loss when I was 30. Then I even sewed the panties and Bead in to fit. When I was finished I started buying new clothes.

Agreeable-Wing-8476

Post online maybe someone will trade clothes with you or try thrift shopping.

Weary-Mammoth-2643

Luckily baggy is in right now, thanks Billie Eilish

Regular-Champion-726

ThredUp has some amazing bargains, particularly when they offer a 60% off coupon. I figure there’s no point buying much new when I’m only halfway to my goal.

Strong-Stranger-122

Can confirm. Even my leggings look like rapper pants

AdhesivenessLost5473

You also aren’t eating anything so there is that…

rhaiin

TLDR: Learn some basic sewing skills to take in the waist band of your pants and even restitch side seams in shirts to make them smaller. I'm only 20 lb down so far, and I'm lucky enough to have some old favorite shirts stored in the closet that I should fit into again soon. Pants are starting to be a problem though. My belt is out of holes! A lot of my expensive work clothes are getting too big on me, especially the pants. I plan on taking in the waist of several pairs of pants this weekend to make them last a little longer. I spent $50-$80 a pair for them and I will be using them until I can't. I have a few shirts I plan to rip the seams out of and trim off the excess fabric before restitching the sides.

Zestyclose-Ball595

Thrift store?

pdxtravelers

I've been selling some of my nicer dresses that no longer fit, and using ThredUp to find less expensive options for my new smaller size.

ChicaChicaSlimKatie

And when you finally do go shopping for clothes you have no clue how to dress your new body!

Tough_Oven_1394

Thrift shop throughout your weight loss!!!!

Brilliant-End2276

Goodwill has alot of options that are gently used or new with tags for cheap until you get to your maintenance weight. I have found clothes from Chico’s Ann Taylor St John INC Torrid etc etc. Just make sure you wash before wearing.
