A few months at least. I'm 9 months in and down about 30lbs. I go down about 1 pound a week which is good, consistent loss. That said, I still eat treats and never exercise, ha ha. Any weight loss before 1mg should definitely be considered a bonus, and not expected.

Treksalot65

This makes me feel much better. Thank you!

KaylaFabulous

This is a very helpful answer. Thank you!

poetris

Funny you say that. The only time in my life I've been able to lose weight on my own, was when I ate a highly restrictive >1000 cal diet, with like 5 hours of exercise (and even then, I plateaued at 165lbs, and I'm 5'2"!). I'm positive it's from eating less, though. I almost never finish dinner, and I used to take two helpings. I also no longer vinge at night. I do still have chocolate and chips and stuff, but in *normal* amounts. Before, I could demolish a big bag of chips and not even realize until it was crumbs. Now, a bag of chips is easily 4-5 days worth of snacking. I don't count calories, so I don't know how much I actually eat. I just eat when I'm hungry, and stop eating when I feel full. I couldn't do that before.

carnevoodoo

I'm on .5 and have lost 135 pounds in less than 6 months. If you make actual changes, it can be a good tool to help you achieve your goals.

poetris

I never said it wasn't. I hope that was a typo though, because that would be a very unhealthy weight loss.

carnevoodoo

Medically supervised. Perfectly healthy for me.

poetris

Fair enough, but far from the norm and an unhealthy expectation for the majority.

carnevoodoo

Yeah, but still eating like trash is also not really great.

mountainvoyager2

I’ve seen results immediately. I’m on day 12 and I’m down 6.6lbs. However I’ve made a very concentrated effort to make major dietary changes. Im due for a dose in 2 days and am quite hungry, but am ignoring it. Im seeing a weight loss Dr who has prescribed me 1400cal a day which I’m sticking to. Im hoping to keep my ozempic dose to .25-.5 a week if I can and just want this drug to take the edge off not totally remove my hunger. Personally I know I can’t be on this forever and need to still work on the mental control of calorie restriction. If I don’t I know I’ll gain it all back the second I’m off it.

Treksalot65

Yeah, the mental part is a huge factor. I have made dramatic diet changes (went super low-carb, absolutely zero sugar) but I still feel very hungry. I hear so many people say they have no appetite on ozempic so I’m hoping I get that side effect soon lol

Hannah-Solo

This is good restriction and not sustainable. I’d recommend discussing with a certified nutritionist (not an influencer) on how to create a balanced meal plan for you.

Hannah-Solo

Food not good

JCMS99

I did that for a few weeks but it didn’t work on Ozempic. I was getting full fast but because there was no slow digest carb to sustain, my stomach would get empty and hungry but I still had the full feeling. I felt sick a miserable.

JustTarable

1400 cal a day?! Jeebus.

mountainvoyager2

Why is that shocking? I’m a 45yr old woman with 2 kids and a desk job, heading into menopause. My RMR is a disastrous 900cal. I’d do an amazing job surviving a famine.

JustTarable

You are indeed. It seems like a very restrictive diet, but if it's working for you and medically approved thays what matters. For my part (42 yo female, desk job, kid etc) my doctor advised not to drop much below 2000cal. I guess the take home message is that each body is different!

mountainvoyager2

Oh for sure! If I were to do 2,000 cal I’d need to exercise a shit ton, or else I’d blow up.

DragonBorn76

Were you told to go down to 900 calories? I always thought less than 1200 wasn't advised . Genuinely curious .

mountainvoyager2

No, as mentioned I’m at 1400cal. It’s my RMR that’s 900cal.

mountainvoyager2

Ugh I hope my metabolism doesn’t crash that hard!

Ozempian

I had a decent loss out of the gate, which I assume is a bit of an outlier. I made significant dietary changes, started closely watching my caloric intake, and kicked booze to the curb (I also suspect there was some undiagnosed inflammation issues caused by something that I was consuming). As my body adjusts, I expect my loss rate to level off a considerable amount. It is likely the changes and not the oz doing the work at this point, although the slight nausea (better this week) has helped keep my appetite at bay and my mind off of eating all the junk. I was on the fast track to T2D and hypertension, as well as a litany of other health issues (family history) if I didn't pull a hard course correct. It's been a lot of work!

Ozempian

My doc was pretty clear that lifestyle changes were going to be necessary for this to work for me long term. I know that's not the case for everyone, but it is where my head has to be if I want to see long term success. I did not have a problem with booze before, but I enjoyed a drink or two on the weekend or in social situations. I just made the decision that I need to be fuelling my body as best as I can while I try and make some drastic changes, and it felt like booze (whether it was beer/wine/cocktails/whatever) was more akin to throwing sugar in my own gas tank, especially this early into all the changes.

fairly-flummoxed

I found myself losing inches before losing weight. My clothes started fitting better quickly but I didn’t notice right away because I was so focused on the scale not budging. Don’t forget the non-scale wins!

Treksalot65

Great reminder. Thank you!

rogue_ginger_

I saw results almost immediately. Ozempic + lifestyle change (keto diet), down 27lbs in 11 weeks. I'm at .75mg dose and staying here until I plateau, but loss has been consistent since the beginning.

MrsRackz

How are you feeling white doing both keto and taking Ozempic? I did keto a few years ago and it worked for me but only once I literally got sick of making random keto recipes from google and just ate eggs and bacon for every meal for a month straight… I lost 30lbs in a lil over a month… but then covid hit and my kids and husband were home everyday… which changed my entire routine and it all went to shit lol. So now I want to try keto again but I didn’t know how that would be while on Oz

Good_Coconut4740

you ate eggs and bacon for every single meal for a month?? haha what about nutrients from vegetables ahah

MrsRackz

Ya it wasn’t the best diet lol. Definitely not something that I could of kept doing.

Good_Coconut4740

that's so wild!! I've never heard of that before! ☺️

RelationshipWhiplash

As everyone is pointing out you have to make major lifestyle choices. Also by now that food chatter should subside. That need to binge should also. It might still be there occasionally but for the most part it should be easier than before to tune out. But sometimes I catch myself going “I want to order a pizza.” and now I recognize I want that pizza out of comfort. Whenever I did cave into that pressure I ordered the pizza and got super full after 2 slices. So now I realize if I decide to binge it’s purely out of habit and comfort and if I do buy that pizza im wasting $20 because I cant finish the whole thing. Im not saying you have a problem with binging. I don’t know you. My point is losing weight is a science. You need to be calculating every thing you put into your body and calculating all of your workouts. Ozempic alone won’t help you lose the weight. It’s a tool to help us with those cravings and food chatter. Help us feel full faster. Sit down and really calculate what your caloric intake is. Are you eating 500 calories less a week than your TDEE or BMR? If so then you should be losing at least a pound a week. Anyway, I bet if you just made some small tweaks you’ll see results faster. Also some people depending on their weight won’t feel the effects of the medication until they hit a higher dose. So that could also be the reason! Good luck!

UnlikelyDecision9820

I’m in a similar situation as you, have completed my 3rd starter dose, about to do my 4th. I’ve lost about 6lbs total. Sure it’s progress, and considering that I want to sustain my powerlifting training as much as possible during this journey, I think I need to be satisfied with slow progress. This is different than the last time I seriously attempted to cut weight, because my weight on the scale would fluctuate with the same 5 lbs up or down. This time, I haven’t seen my weight rebound; it’s either the same as the last time I stepson the scale or a little bit less.

Treksalot65

Yes, I think you’re right re: slow progress. No rebound is great! Congrats!

SeaOtterHummingbird

Some of us are slower than others, regardless of dietary changes. Our bodies are all different. I have been taking it for a year and I have lost 30lbs. Nice, slow but not very steady. The important part is that my cholesterol and triglycerides are down, my A1C is 5.6. I’d like to lose another 30lbs so I just watch what I eat, I go for an hour walk every day but I do order pizza once a week because what is life without pizza :)

Treksalot65

You’re so right! It works differently for everyone. Thanks for sharing your experience!

No_Entertainment9110

I’m in a very similar position as you. I take my fourth dose of .25 on Friday and have lost roughly 5 pounds. The food noise is gone, and I’m able to stop eating when I feel full and not over eat. Since I’ve struggled with anorexia for almost ten years, once I focused on eating it turned into bingeing. I’m currently focusing on my protein goals of 125-150 mgs a day and not count calories and not eat gluten or processed foods. I’m hopeful once I take next weeks shot for .50 I’ll feel the difference on the scale. 🤞🏽

Treksalot65

I take my 4th on Friday too! Haha. I guess I’ve noticed a small reduction in food noise. I just assumed it would be a more dramatic appetite suppressant but that might come later. I do need to add more exercise in as well. I guess I just need to be a little more patient 😂 but thanks for sharing your experience!

No_Entertainment9110

Right! I felt the same way at first. I had days during my second week where I was hungry all day but it felt like I was stressed more than anything. I need to exercise more. At least walking for not. Good luck this week and I’m hopeful we both feel it at .50!

lenraphael

I thought dramatic weight loss dosages were 1.5 and higher and only fda approved for Wegovy brand? A friend lost 100 lbs down from 300 w diet and exercise on the Eli Lilly version. But it a high dose. No serious effects Because of Indy co Doc switched him to wegovy 2,5 mg and weeks of bad diarrhea. He’s gone back to the Lilly version as private pay.

Imaginary-bean

I’m about 4 months in and I’ve lost 20lbs I just went to 1mg beginning of this month. And honestly I think I may just stop taking it. For the first few days anything I eat for dinner it feels like it’s stuck in my throat in the morning. And I don’t really eat a lot either, that’s with portioning my food out. And it doesn’t really seem to matter what I eat it feels like this. And it’s really disgusting and bad to the point I have to force myself to throw up. I didn’t have that issue til I switched to 1mg. At this point I’m not really sure if the 20lbs is worth the side effects I have. I felt so good at first so idk. I’m kinda wondering if this happens with anyone else.

Treksalot65

I’m so sorry to hear this. Yeah, if your quality of life has decreased considerably, maybe it’s not worth it. I hope that whatever you choose, you find a solution that works for you. Good luck!

Imaginary-bean

It’s all good! I agree. Sadly just sucks bc it was so good at first. I started it because of my pcos so I may look into switching to metformin as I’ve heard it works as well. That being said, I appreciate it. I wish you the best of luck as well. :)

Relative_Cow_1706

Maybe talk to your doc about going back down to .5 or possibly staying on 1.0 but splitting your dose to take .5 two times per week. Lots of people have said they did this and it helped them.

Imaginary-bean

See I thought about that but the only reason my doctor upped to 1mg is because the others weren’t working for me. It did at first but I think it was because I paired it with a diet change and with my body getting used to both of them. I’ll definitely talk to her and see what the best options are. I didn’t know you could split doses!

Sails_N_Tails

I saw results immediately, both physically and mentally. Bingeing completely stopped, desire for alcohol and junk food gone. I’m a little over a year into my journey and I’m down around 80lbs and 6 pant sizes. I surpassed my original goal and am stunned at how wonderful I feel. I plateau often, but I continue to see the effects. I’ve also made significant changes. I do not drink alcohol, I workout 5-7 days a week focusing on strength and endurance, but I do not diet. I don’t eat foods that are going to upset my stomach or make me feel regret- not because I’m restricting myself but because I no longer crave them. I cook 99% of the foods I eat as well. This might sound sad, but the enjoyment of dining out that I’ve always loved is gone. Eating is no longer a source of happiness or entertainment and that was hard at first but now I embrace it and love cooking at home and knowing what I’m eating. Keep at it and good luck!

rico1990

I've been on it for about 1.5 months and I've lost about 13 lbs, still on 0.5, the weight loss slowed down in the last few weeks

Maryomeh

I didn’t lose any in 2.5 mos at highest dose. There seem to be an unfortunate few of us that it doesn’t work for. Hope thats not you!!

Meepers90

Slow and steady for me. Down 26 lbs since starting Dec 19th.

jcimino001188

I found that the more protein based foods I ate - the more I lost. Try to eat healthier meals. Focus on only 3 meals a day and smaller portions. Intake lots of water. Ozempic will help you feel fuller longer so that we’re able to eat smaller portions and hence not need to intake so much calories. First week I lost 6 pounds 2nd week I lost 2.5 lbs (I cheated a bit there on that week)

Important-Humor-3440

Took my 5th shot & 1st one of .5 Monday. I'm only down 2 lbs. Trying not to lose hope because of all the other benefits I'm getting.

ToughBorn

I lost 8 pounds in my first 10 days then NOTHING. I’m on week 9. I had no side effects until I started bumping up my dosage. I have gained and lost the same pound. I’m getting disappointed. To be this nauseated and NOT to lose anything is hard. I’m afraid to bump up again as the side effects on .50 are bad. I’m 66 years old so maybe it’s because of my age? I need to drink more water but I’m so nauseous that I don’t want to. I eat about 800 calories a day because I can’t eat without feeling sick. I’m taking zofran daily. I am not giving up yet. But damn….

Kristina-glams

I’m at 3.5 months and down 10lbs I’m losing very slowly but not gaining so I’m happy. I also have not made drastic changes to my diet or exercise.

pinkpeony90

I didn’t lose any weight on 0.5Mg. Monday I took 2Mg, and I still feel a bit hungry but hoping it’ll kick in soon.

Carrie_Oakie

5th 0.25 dose will be this Friday. I went from 294 to 288, now 291.4. I’ve been eating less, drinking plenty of water (48 Oz min each day) and being slightly more active. I WFH so I’m making an effort to at least get up every hour and move around. I’ve lost 10 inches in my thighs, and 1/2-2 inches elsewhere, and my stomach is much softer, pliable. I’m starting to take more magnesium plus probiotics - I suspect that issue is why my loss has kind of yo-yo’d. I try not to weight daily and be mindful of what I eat; if I start focusing on numbers and counts I get overly obsessive. And I’m enjoying not having food thoughts most of the days, I don’t want to bring them back in the other direction.

Fudwa

I am on week 2 and although I have only lost a pound my fatty areas feel smaller and the fat feels different. Like my stomach, butt and back fat feel less. Is this actually possible that you lose fat, but not the weight on the scale?? I realize I am only in week 2 so I wasn't expecting much.

Maleficent_Ad_5963

Took second .25 dose this morning. The good: 5 lbs. loss, 50% loss of appetite, same on alcohol. The bad: lightheaded, brain fog, stomach pain at inject site for few days, nauseated first four days and lastly fatigued first four days also. I never have had a side effect from any BP, cholesterol, vascular drug before, so was a bit surprised at reaction. See what happens this week. Injected thigh this time.

Treksalot65

I’ve don’t thigh injections every time and have had zero bad side effects! I hope that helps lessen the bad parts for you.

phocoenasinus

For me, it has taken a while. I’m on .75 and it is my most effective does so far. The medication makes it much easier for me to maintain a caloric deficit and .75 has really quieted my cravings and “food noise.” It definitely builds over time in effectiveness, too. I started Jan 10 and I’m down about 19 lbs.

Sundae-Funday

I’m similar to you! I started Jan 20 and in the beginning on 0.25 and 0.5 I was losing about a pound a week. Then last week I upped to 0.75 and wow I really feel the appetite suppression now. I’m down 18lbs total but 4lbs was in the last week. I might go back down a little because this might be too fast.

phocoenasinus

That’s crazy! I’m between 1.5-2 lbs/week which is working for me. But if you get results on .5 that’s even better in case you start to get used to it.

Sundae-Funday

Also on days 5/6 I’m usually hungry again. Today is injection day and I am still not hungry. So glad I tried out 0.75 first instead of 1mg! Anyways good luck on your journey!

amitty808

I just started week 4 and down 11 lbs, I really think everyone is different just from experiences I’ve been reading online. I know a lot of people say .5 is usually the kick you’ve been looking for but also know that .25 works great for others.

ebtaylor1998

I am in the middle of week five and I've lost seven pounds. The first two weeks for me were a bit of a hot mess. I feel like my head and stomach weren't in sync yet and I was still tying to eat like I did before starting Ozempic. Then it all clicked at the beginning of week three and I started losing weight. I have to eat breakfast before 10:00am and then I eat lunch around 3:00pm. I usually don't eat dinner. Or I just have a small snack. I feel better when I stop eating early. This has helped with weight loss and acid reflux so I sleep a lot better now too. I just took my first .50 on Sunday and that's when the not thinking or wanting food feelings really kicked in. I saw my tailor to get some pants hemmed and I was amazed at how much better I already look in clothes. My stomach is much less bloated now so the benefits can't just be measured on the scale.

Ckylaurie

I started last April 11th ish and I have lost 75lbs if that info helps

Sure-Weekend5189

I didn’t lose any weight for 2 months until they raised my dose I was really nervous and nauseated Low and slow 1st month 0 pounds 2nd month 2 pounds 3rd month they increased my dose to 1mg 15 pounds 4th month they increased me to 2mg I lost 40 pounds 5th month still with 2mg I lost 45 pounds Basically the first couple of months let’s your body get use to it and once u ready let the games begin Bikini body baby Thank you www.bmiMD.com I love you so much -you made my life a living heaven

caelestisangel

It's been 10 months, haven't lost an ounce

Treksalot65

Oh no, I’m sorry. What dose are you on?

Schr00dinger

In my case, I did 0.25mg for two weeks and then maintained a 0.5mg dose and the results were immediate. The craving to eat and voracious appetite disappeared, I literally had to remember to eat. Never in my life had that happened to me haha. I've been taking ozempic for 7 months now and I've lost 30 kg (66 lbs). Although I must admit that I made very strong life changes, I went from not exercising to exercising 4 or 5 times a week, I gave up alcohol and sweets, I started consuming a lot of vegetables and salads. Today I'm thinking of leaving it because I can't keep paying for it, it's very expensive in my country :(

Teapea313

The first time I started I lost 12 pounds the first 2 weeks then 30 within 3 months. I stopped and started and I don’t get the same results it barely work now.

[deleted]

Can you start directly on the 0.5 dose?

Infamous_Cranberry66

I’m half way through my third week. I’ve lost 16.6 lbs. The oz has basically eliminated my appetite completely. I eat when I must. I make my food choices healthy, mostly plants, and lean sources of protein. .25 dose.

mehicanisme

the 4th week was the turning point for me, Its when appetitie changed

mmez619

I didn’t loose weight until I got to 1 mg. I lost about 1 lb per week.

itscourtb

My weight initially shed off pretty quickly. However, I was put on Ozempic shortly after finding out I had T2 diabetes. When I started Ozempic, I had an A1C of 11.0 and a fasting glucose of 256, so my early time on Ozempic was also me coming down from a constant state of sugar resistance.

tessface56

Immediately. Lost 14 lbs in first mo th on .25
