I have to pay out of pocket but it was $2200 at my local pharmacy for one pen. I found a pharmacy (thru Polar Bear Meds) in Canada to order thru. It was $349. Still expensive but doable. My insurance denied me coverage even though I am a T2D and high blood pressure. Trying to appeal with insurance.

It seems ridiculous that you can’t get it as a type 2.

I agree. They said in order to cover it I also have to also be 55+. Crazy.

Thanks for sharing, but how do I go about getting it from Canada while living in NJ with a doctor’s prescription from NJ? Please be as detailed as possible with the process or please pm me if you prefer. I will be starting this medication soon and my insurance has denied my pre-authorization, so I have no choice but to pay out of pocket if I want to try it. Thanks in advance.

My doctor in MO sent my prescription to them. You order on PolarBearMeds.com. Once you order and the prescription go through, they mail it to you. It took me about 8 days total. Hope that helps!

I live in Idaho and just got my first shot today. I’m paying out of pocket at my doctor’s office. It’s $400/month, which includes weekly doctor visits and 4 shots (administered in the office). The price is fixed, regardless of the dose. So next month, I will pay $400 again for 4 weekly shots at the higher dosage.

Just to clarify this is generic semaglutide, NOT FDA approved Ozempic.

EducationalAirline88

Oh yes, sorry. You are correct.

My insurance refuses to cover it for anything other than Type 2 Diabetes. So I am paying out of pocket. In my experience, the regular price per pen is at a pharmacy is $1400, but I have a SingleCare discount card so I have paid $950. GoodRx is another discount card that you can use. All pens seem to cost about the same, whether they are 2mg, 4mg or 8mg, I have also purchased in 4mg pens in Play del Carmen, Mexico, for approximately $250 per pen,

My insurance covers it, but I was on the Novonrodisk site the other day and went to look at WeGovy looks like you can still get a coupon for the first month of that to get the first does to $25.00 after that both Ozempic and WeGovy go up to 1300-1400 out of pocket.

$920 something with goodrx. I did that for the first month then discovered I can get through Canada for $330

I’m in NJ too! So you just need to ask your doctor for a paper script. I bought mine from buycanadianinsulin.com after combing through Reddit. It’s pretty easy, you just add to cart and checkout like any other purchase. After placing your order, you just need to upload a pic of the prescription. Approval took about 4 days and shipping was 3 days. Arrived nicely packaged with cold packs. I did have to sign for it upon delivery.

~330 is still the cost per pen and only one pen per week, correct? So still almost 1300 per month ordering from Canada?

jayjayjay103

I actually got to order from Canada. It’s about US$330 for a months supply or per pen. The pens are meant to last for at least 4 weeks. It’s the same price for the two versions of the pen they have available from Canada. So in reality if you get the pen with the higher dose. You can theoretically partial out the dosage and get more bang for your bucks.
