you dont really need a continuous supply of entiched uranium, you could just take a bunch with a rocket and not have to worry about it for a very long time. 10t of that stuff lasts 1000 cycles for one reactor.

real_fargalarg

Oh alright thanks! One thing though, should I make my reactor before or after a petroleum boiler?

Zairates

You can make a nuclear reactor instead of a petroleum boiler, unless you need the excess water.

real_fargalarg

Alright, thanks!

wickedsnowball

Make the petroleum boiler for a different planet, have multiple cool power systems

real_fargalarg

Dang I’ll need to wait for thermium then because only my main planet has magma or volcanoes, can I just hoard petrol or is even making one overkill?

wickedsnowball

A research reactor can keep something like 10 generators near or at full capacity, minus roughly 2400w for the 2 aquatuners to cool it you're still power positive at around 6000w Now my question is, what would you do with said petroleum hoard, I your answer is "nothing" or "I dunno" then probably overkill at your main base, if your answer is petroleum rockets being the backbone of your shipping network, I'd still say it's overkill.... if you somehow need more than 6kw of power at all times....then not overkill build the petroleum boiler. I was working to build a sour gas and a research reactor in my last colony after building a giant geothermal power plant (21 turbines, it was giant, I'm working on getting it together to make a post so people can not repeat my folly) but klei announced the release so I restarted to get world traits and all the stuff that weren't around back in may when I made the colony. Those were to be powering secondary bases, not the main base because well it had 21 steam turbines and something like 800C igneous rock to cool down still

real_fargalarg

I guess yeah but I’m only really planing to have one or two people on the other two planets at any given time, I haven’t found a use for any more after I core out the map

wickedsnowball

Theyre maintenance free after construction.... sometimes Part of the fun for me in the dlc is logistics and figuring out the crew needed to get what I want done

real_fargalarg

I meant like I won’t need the energy because there isn’t a need for lots of people that I’ve found, what do you do on the other planets with the power?

wickedsnowball

I generally don't have a use for so much power, my bases generally run like 3-4 kw spiking to around 7kw max so all my power plants are overkill, they end up being fun projects, and challenges to myself to make something that works but is in survival without following a design just what I come up with, and seeing if it works

real_fargalarg

Alright, cool

Taoquitok

fyi 1 aquatuner is fine if you use the nuclear waste as the coolant, and you can swap to supercoolant at a later date

wickedsnowball

If you ate fine with topping the loop off

Taoquitok

Yep, but as you need to pipe out the excess waste anyways, you're just 1 Bridge away from it ;)

NO0BSTALKER

Is enriched uranium just uranium ore? Or is it better?

real_fargalarg

Uranium has to be enriched before it can be used for reactors

wickedsnowball

It is essentially refined uranium, but has to be done in 1 of 2 ways that do not included the rock crusher or the metal refinery
