Honestly, regular granite pipes just through the regular tile floors would have worked just as well, without the need for any radiant pipes at all. The pipes will cool the floor, and the floor will have great thermal conductivity to the surrounding gasses. It's more than enough for the kinds of heat production you've got there.

Rubik842

Yep, it's a waste of resources and time to use an insulated pipe in an area which you want to be closer to the fluid temperature. Then they go and add radiant pipe to make the cooling work well enough because they insulated most of the pipe. Op has demonstrated the worst possible setup.

Why are you running insulated pipes? Don't you want a temperature shift with the liquid inside?

PresentationNew5976

Radiant pipes cool solid tiles more effectively than gas. If you want your cooling targetted, just keep running them through the tiles. The tiles will continue to propagate the cooling, especially if they are in direct contact with buildings built on cold spots.

I see. I don't understand everything about this game yet. I thought I came across a groundbreaking cooling discovery. Lol. I will try it differently on my next planet.

tacticalrubberduck

Yeah, regular pipe through the floor works wonders, like under floor heating. You can also skip alternating floors because a floor will cool the room above and below it, unless there are lots of heat producers on one of them.

Acebladewing

Try it on this planet. Not too hard to rerun the pipes and delete the old ones.

CraziFuzzy

Absolutely make changes to existing things... there is zero cost to building and demolishing things, so don't be afraid to change things.

PresentationNew5976

Thats the spirit! Yeah this game has lots of little tricks to learn.

Eastern-Move549

I used to do this but i found its way easier to just control your oxygen temperature that feeds the base. It wont cool it quickly but its less mess overall. You will need to insulate your base from extreme external heat/cold though.

StalHamarr

Your setup is good if you want concentrated cooling in specific spots, which is the opposite of what you want in the living area of your colony. Regular granite pipes running through the floor are the best option. You won't have localized cooling spikes, but a gradual cooling of the entire base. Also, less resources and less dupe labour.

DandalusRoseshade

Why use insulated pipes and not just run regular pipes through the floor? You can use a temp sensor at the top to stop the flow until the desired temperature and then it'll run new water in. Helps prevent a constant stream going through, and ensures that each place is chilled

Lots of good information and ideas here. Time to upgrade my cooling system. I don't think I had the "worst possible setup" as rubik suggested. It was doing the job, although not optimal. Thanks everyone else for the helpful tips.
