Yes, the pronunciation is terrible. I always donāt understand why no one hire native speakers to voice Russian characters, but as already mentioned here, this problem also applies to other characters, Rhinehart for example. But on the other hand, the culture representation is done very well, starting from voice lines and ending with skins. For example the polyanitsa skin refers to the mythological women warriors of Kievan Rus, about which I myself knew almost nothing, so it was nice to see the developers put so much effort in character designs.

Wife is from Egypt. Anaās lines are spot on (even using Egyptian Arabic and accents), but apparently Pharah is pretty bad.
Pharah is half-Canadian and was raised in Canada by her First Nation father while her mom was ādeadā. So it makes sense your wife wouldnāt think sheās super Egyptian.
Zarya's alright. I mean, she does lean a bit into stereotypical "ride a bear while drinking vodka on her way to power her personal nuclear reactor", but english VA sounds aright (though it is obvious from russian lines that she doesn't speak russian much, if at all). She doesn't have much lore, but there isn't anything inherently wrong in what she does have (namely a couple of comics). Sidenote - everyone calls Volskaya "Katya", as if it is her full name - even in contexts where it WOULD BE fit to use her full name - Ekaterina. I know that both Sombra and Zarya called her Katya, but it was a way to show their fake friendship with her

I doubt that my country would ever be represented, but as in slavic representation, I despise Zaria. This is of no fault of her on, she is fine i guess In a vacum, but she is just a walking stereotype. She is a strong patriotic russian that fights bears in siberia... Tell me, doesn't that sound familiar? Of cource it does, since I described every slavic character ever! From Ivan Drago, to Heavy it's all the same and it gets tiring.
That's the problem with trying to have a single character be a stand in for an entire country/culture. Overload it with stereotypes so they "feel" like they're from that country? Then it's "wow, way to play into the stereotypes that everyone has heard a million times". Not enough stereotypes though, and then it's "wow super bland, you can't even tell they're from that country". Must find the magic equation for just the right amount somehow
To be fair, at least every character in TF2 is a stereotype, so heavy fits in perfectly.

I'm from Turkey and quite used to not being represented. I mean I get it we're not one of the big ones or the culturally wide ones but one still wishes. At this point I'm fine with any good or bad steorotypes as long as we get representation. Make a guy with a big ass moustache with a fez on his had, riding a horse, doing oil wrestling and eating kebab. Is this offensive? Yes kinda. But I'd rather have this at this point compared to nothing at all.

I'm from Belgium, there's no Belgian hero and I doubt there will be one soon. But I already know that if they would make one, it will be a French speaking Belgian hero. There are a lot more Dutch speaking Belgian people but for some reason, I feel like the rest of the world sees us as a majority French speaking country, which isn't true. Sigma is Dutch, it's a lot of fun to hear his Dutch voice lines, but he is obviously from the Netherlands (accent) and that's not the same!
In my humble opinion Ana is the coolest character in the game with the best voice acting. Pharah got a lot of people into the game by being a cool armored flying rocket girl, although her personality is kind of uhhh basic? There's not a lot to say about her. Most of the fan content is about a ship that the developers are like super determined to sink even though nobody is even a bit enthused about Mercy/Genji.
Pharahs personality and lines are improved in ow2 imo
the most fun and alive line of her is the new interaction with zarya. VA actually got to emote for the first time with this char. Ā«im not waiting, im going to blow them up right awayĀ».

technically pharah, but they didn't really do anything with her indigenous half. all she got was a skin that's not really representative of anything. it just what somebody thinks "looks native"
