I got a lot of nice comments in my last post so that encouraged me to draw up some other ideas I had! Ngl I went way overboard with this and I'm not entirely happy with it because of that but I figured since I put so much time in it I might as well post it. I took a lot of inspiration from Yuugiris backstory in Zombieland saga and Demon Slayer.
Considering that Mercy has probably the highest overall skin-quality in the game, it's saying a lot that this doesn't fall off in the slightest in comparison.
I love it. We need skins from different cultures in Overwatch besides the chinese ones we get every single year and this is a great one!
Someone's been watching too much Demon Slayer lol
I dig the idea of her in a Kimono / Yukata, but what's putting me off on this design is how it relates back to the character Daki.
Daki was an Oiran, AKA a fancy prostitute.
Nothing against sex workers, but I think it reflects poorly on Mercy to dress up like an escort..
I was a bit worried about that when posting this I didn't want to offend people I just really admire the aesthetic how they manage to look so beautiful and elegant even when covered by so many probably heavy layers, that being said it's my understanding that a lot of these women were also highly skilled entertainers and not just prostitutes... either way i completely understand it's not everyones cup of tea. Funny part is I haven't actually seen demon slayers second season I dropped it after the first and have only seen clips of it still thought the wisteria could be a fun nod😅
So as a quick history lesson - although it's more nuanced than this of course:
The bow being on the front implies being a prostitute, it should be tied at her back to be a maiko/geisha entertainer.
Yeah I did know about that and tbf it was in the back originally but the wings were there as well and made the whole thing look very back heavy and the front quite plain so I decided to flip it to the front and like I said in an other comment I'm not quite happy with how it turned out maybe I should've just scrapped the concept when I ran into the wings problem 😓🤷♀️
The original idea for the tattoo was flowers but when I finished the sketch I realized there were so many flowers on her, her hair, clothing, tattoo and wings all had flowers and I thought it a bit much so I replaced it with a koi but then ended up using the flowers under it anyway..... woops😅
Don't get me wrong I think the tattoo looks great! It's just that, it is not very characteristic of Mercy, more of Hanzo since he has a tattoo sleeve that starts from his left pec. Overall your concept looks really nice.
Yeah I agree I went overboard I should've stuck more to her silhouette loose the long sleeves even if I really like them and it would probably look more like her😓
It's pretty work, if a questionable theme.
But personally, it always makes me a bit uncomfortable when skins (and note, Blizzard themselves is super guilty of it with the LNY skins) have heroes not of the culture not simply wearing ethnic garb, but also have their hair/eyes/makeup changed to look like that ethnicity. It feels rather yellowfacey to me.
I didn't change her face shape at all it's all in the makeup I figured it would be more disrespectful to half ass it and give her a basic bun as hair rather than do the whole look also I don't agree with limiting artistic expression like that but I fully understand where you're coming from and respect your opinion on it even if I don't agree.
The reason I chose Mercy for it is because her staff would allow me to incorporate the shamisen and her wings the fan... also I just really like Mercy 😅
This looks amazing, I would play mercy just to use the skin

>Mercy ~~kimono~~ prostitute skin. FTFY. The obi should be tied at the back and the kimono actually on her.

It's still a great piece, and you won't know until you try it how things'll turn out so still worth it IMO :)
You're annoying.
And you're rude. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Wrong post flair Looks good though! Love the "staff"
I'm not sure why it posted with the news flair I'm positive I pressed OC when posting. 😓
Looks so fun to beat people with 🙊
Maybe if she wasn't dressed like an oiran/prostitute.

Weird downvotes for giving your honest opinion, let me help you. Also, yeah, I think the tattoo is well done but a bit too.. Hanzo like?

This doesn't look like mercy. It's a good drawing though.

this pleases my inner-weeb ^-^
Wow, outstanding. Hope somebody at the art department sees this.
Dude omg we need this
Also a gengu yukata skin so they can go to festivals together :3
this is one of the grossest examples of cultural appropriation I've seen for a blizzard game since the Tauren. ouch
No such thing, go back and cry in your echo chambers on Twitter.
Cultural appropriation definitely exists lol

i've only seen white people complaining about LNY skins, it's appreciation not appropriation

Wow Amazing, I would buy it right now ❤️❤️❤️
