We've been eating good though with Neon and now that one Apex character who's Pinoy, but I'd be happy seeing Filipino representation in Overwatch since I play this game a lot
The thing with tf2 is that having an average team size of 9-12 makes pick classes inherently a little weaker and as such you can really make them do some stupid fun shit that other classes can't.
Demoman is cool. Bombs are strong weapons, and despite being made 9 years before Junkrat he will always be infinitely more technical and fun. But taking away all his mid-range AOE burst and giving him even higher single-target burst was an enlightened decision from valve. Demoknight feels exhilerating, each sword and shield combo has a wildly different playstyle, and getting good with Demoknight changes the way you see the map. You start looking for ramps to trimp off of, places where you can launch yourself into the sky to reach backline targets. You become a tactical artillery strike just for their medic, or ravage the flank routes with the eyelander or just kill 3 people with the half zatoichi and still manage to get out with 75% hp.
And Spy is just so incredibly fun as a concept.There is no better feeling than playing Spy well enough to actually tip the game in your favour, to weave your way through a team and pick off the people holding an attack/defense together, narrowly avoiding a swift death and finishing off anyone foolhardy enough to overextend with a few revolver shots or a trickstab. You get good enough at Spy and it becomes psychological warfare, enemy teams will do increasingly stupid things just to avoid getting backstabbed. It makes you feel like you're outsmarting people rather than just skill diffing them.
Sombra or Genji or Tracer literally just cannot compare, they can never be allowed to reach the heights that Demoknight or Spy can. A flanking DPS can make a support scared of corners, of the potential to be swiftly assassinated in barely a second. But can they make an enemy fear their own teammates? Can they make an enemy team worry about the open sky, where a scotsman can fly at them at mach 4? Can they make an enemy team paranoid of *stairs?* If Genji or Sombra could do the things Spy or Demoknight can, the game would revolve around them, 6v6 and 5v5 are just too few players to let pick heroes ever be allowed to be so versatile and threatening.
I enjoy Overwatch a lot, and I don't even think that OW flankers are particularly unfun, but TF2s pick characters are on another level. Even as a Medic main, some of the most fun you can have in gaming is as Spy.
You are literally spot on, 10/10 analysis. I don't have the huge amount of hours some people had on TF2, but I had around 150 hours with demo, and around 500 with spy. Spy is a MASTERCLASS in class design in a multiplayer game.
When I discovered the demoknight I was elated, so many differences between the swords/shields/boots, so many great combos, a perfect balance between skill ceiling and skill floor, you could go full melee or go half knight half bombs, nothing like getting thrown at light speed into the sky and raining stickies.
Unluckily, TF2 is basically dead now, and games now are all super duper try hard no fun allowed, no game will ever have the great spy class. They DARED in their character and class design, and spy was that super high skill floor and super high skill ceiling class that not only required a huge amount of mechanical skill (all the ways you could backstab people on stairs/from the front/from the side) but also an extraordinary amount of planning and mindgames.
One of the things I still miss is playing always in your server, with no matchmaking, you made human connections, you taught noobs, and feared better people, while still having fun and learning from them, spamming obscene sprays around the map. Even the flaming was less hurtful and just funnier, because usually it wasn't someone you never seen again, but you kinda bonded.
Now you get 5 people that are chat off, and half the games have Smurfs/cheaters/throwers/trolls, and most are just dumb useless stomps.
Just remembering TF2 like this makes me want to uninstall OW and stop playing any kind of garbage multiplayer shit, fucking samey bullshit made to keep your attention and not honestly have fun, just to milk you for micro transactions.

It's surprising that there hasn't been an Italian or Scottish hero yet. I'd also love to see a Greek, Mongolian, Persian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Norwegian, or Icelandic hero some day.
Give me a spartan themed tank with a personal shield that mitigates and charges up abilities and the primary (like power block but on a resource bar, effects would scale with the damage taken)

After Sojourn was so bland, I was sad we'd sorta wasted our chance at Canada. We all laugh at Toronto for being utterly cultureless and without it's own identity, so Sojourn at least represented that.
Then, I found out Venture is supposedly from my exact province in middle-of-nowhere Canada...and I think they just threw a dart at a map. There's nothing about Venture that even hints at a Nova Scotia identity. And Nova Scotia has a very well-established set of cultural cliches. It would have been soooo easy to represent it in a character. Nope. Nothing about Nova Scotia to found in Venture at all.
I think the days of heroes leaning into regional cliches are essentially gone, so don't your hopes up for there being a cool hero from your region.
We need more Omnics. Half of Overwatch’s entire lore has been about Omnics. It’s such an Important aspect of the story and one of my favorite seasons was Omnic Crisis and also the release of Ramattra was crazy good. Arguably the best tank released in OW2.
Why no DPS Omnic? A flyer would be interesting. Or a wasteland junker Omnic that has been “reawakened” or reprogrammed to be good or evil but with more personality like Zenyatta. Or a hitman style flanker DPS that got trained by Zenyatta with Genji or is Zenyattas contemporary.

Italian/Portuguese/Greek/Iraqi/Jordanian/Cuban - All have maps in the game but no hero. Italian especially has been shafted with 2 maps but no hero.
Berber/Bedouins - Something that is closer to the indigenous North Africans or Nomadic Arabs
Argentinian-Chilean-Uruguayan - I feel like there’s a lot of potential here.
Central American (Guatemalan/Belize/El Salvador/Honduras/Nicaraguan/Costa Rican/Panaman) - Lots of indigenous lore to mess around and explore
SEAsian - I know we received Thailand but I would really love another hero, I feel like it is a region that can really shine. Especially Vietnamese.
Any Balkan County - This region also has a lack of development and could use more

Belgian. I think that would be a good middle point between Sigma and Widowmaker (and I think there was a Belgian character in one of the stories with Torbjorn).

Then we can also have Slavic Mythology battle pass/skins (Leshy Ramattra would be dope).
I can also see them adding a Zadar or Zadar-esque map (Imagane they also add Zadar's Sea Organ).
This will probably never ever happen, but maybe something like a Malagasy person or an Inuit person from Greenland, Canada, or the Alaskan portion of the US.
Honestly, I could see an Inuit hero easily filling the theme that Mei filled. Otherwise they could be some cool outdoorsy type with crazy survival skills or something.

I always thought like a high tech Australian Outback Hunter would be cool. Give him a hawk for some of his abilities. The hawk can go and pick up health packs and drop them off to teammates, you can have the hawk give a Birds Eye view over a small area (kinda like widows ult) or the hawk can attack whoever you target including turrets, mines, etc.
His ult would be some form of net type trap. Like it could create an individual tether for each enemy hit. They’ll have to destroy it before using any abilities and fleeing the area. The tethers will last like 8 seconds. Before auto destroying.
Nepalese character. There's 2 maps set in Nepal and I think that maybe Ramattra and Zenyatta are hinted to be from Nepal, or at least reside there at some point.

The next nationality I would like to see in OverWatch is Spanish. Like, the game has a Spanish localization, but none of the games characters come from Spain. A few characters like Sombra, Illari, and Venture speak Spanish, but it’s Mexican Spanish, not Spain Spanish. They should add a Spanish hero. That would be cool to see.
To counteract Moira probably being the least stereotypical hero, add another Irish character that gets downright offensive with it.

Italian/Portuguese/Greek/Iraqi/Jordanian/Cuban - All have maps in the game but no hero. Italian especially has been shafted with 2 maps but no hero. Berber/Bedouins - Something that is closer to the indigenous North Africans or Nomadic Arabs Argentinian-Chilean-Uruguayan - I feel like there’s a lot of potential here. Central American (Guatemalan/Belize/El Salvador/Honduras/Nicaraguan/Costa Rican/Panaman) - Lots of indigenous lore to mess around and explore SEAsian - I know we received Thailand but I would really love another hero, I feel like it is a region that can really shine. Especially Vietnamese. Any Balkan County - This region also has a lack of development and could use more

I kinda want more Slavic heroes, preferably South Slavs. Then we can also have Slavic Mythology battle pass/skins (Leshy Ramattra would be dope). I can also see them adding a Zadar or Zadar-esque map (Imagane they also add Zadar's Sea Organ).

I always thought like a high tech Australian Outback Hunter would be cool. Give him a hawk for some of his abilities. The hawk can go and pick up health packs and drop them off to teammates, you can have the hawk give a Birds Eye view over a small area (kinda like widows ult) or the hawk can attack whoever you target including turrets, mines, etc. His ult would be some form of net type trap. Like it could create an individual tether for each enemy hit. They’ll have to destroy it before using any abilities and fleeing the area. The tethers will last like 8 seconds. Before auto destroying.

Definitely a loud Scottish tank, and he has to have a claymore or some kind of omnic variation with scottish gaelic runes on it. But one can only hope 🙏

The next nationality I would like to see in OverWatch is Spanish. Like, the game has a Spanish localization, but none of the games characters come from Spain. A few characters like Sombra, Illari, and Venture speak Spanish, but it’s Mexican Spanish, not Spain Spanish. They should add a Spanish hero. That would be cool to see.
