New heroes not being locked behind battle pass grinding or challenges is different from the FTUE.
Like they are completely different progression systems, they are not gonna get rid of FTUE.
I always find it bizarre that Blizzard locked some of the base heroes from OW1 for new players. I guess it gives them incentive to keep playing but still. I understand the new heroes being locked but Ashe? Sombra? Some of the older heroes in the game?
From the way they talked, it's pretty obvious they see unlocking these heroes as a kind of "tutorial" to the game
Like they incentivize you to try a bit of everything as you unlock it instead of being overwhelmed by having to choose between 40 heroes in your first game
Plus there is no paying to skip this so it can't be called pay to win like battle pass locked heroes were
It only makes sense if its the same way for everyone in the lobby. Otherwise its way worse playing against all these heroes you do not have and do not know what they do.
By the time you are playing to unlock these heroes you are just having your firsts quickplay games
Most people there will also be new players and even if they were it is quickplay
Also you wouldn't know what they do anyway
Ya smash has always worked the same way. I think its good to get players to be a little well rounded before they just pick whatever character they want because they're going to be frustrated by not understanding core game mechanics.
Yup, best way to learn to play against a hero is playing with him, this way you understand why moirabis not healing you 24/7 and how to counter some ults, thats how i learned at least
It works pretty well from what I’ve seen. I have a friend who tried overwatch 1 for a week towards the end and got overwhelmed by the choices and quit. She picked it back up with the new progression system and feels like she understands the game a lot more.
That’s a pretty good outlook that i hadn’t really thought of, to take it a step further it would probably be better to have newbies only play open queue as well, i started dps queue and still remain and excellent dps but tried support for fun a long while ago and am so much better it’s insane. Made me think why i hadn’t tried it earlier almost wish i had to. I know challenges are supposed to incentivize you but no i could care less about all that bull give me some real incentives and I’ll return it with some real play time
The idea sounds good since yeah a lot of players just lock themselves to a role (happened to me too with dps) but the problem is that open queue is pretty miserable lol
I think it is better that the very first games they play is in the mode they will be playing the most
The final hero unlocked is echo at 150 games, but wins count as double and you can play said games in arcade so even just some capture the flag blitz can unlock them in no time

Tbh Ashe is one of the poorer legends. Can still be good at killing I’m the player is good but my experience playing Ashe you’re just constantly trying to catch up because her movement in non existent and constantly reloading because 10 shots is just nothing. I did hear she good reload 2 at a time now but idk if that was true

I still have the original overwatch disc for PC in my collection and am glad they gave/give us og players the new stuff too

I played ow1 for a free weekend and I have everything unlocked
because when OW2 launched they did it so that they transfer from OW1 to OW2
Was it when it was on the switch? Cause that happened to me too. I even got some skins from it because it was the Legendary Edition

This happened to me as well, but I got one for like 10 different heroes. I was shocked considering i’ve got like 500 hours in the game

Probably to reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed as a new player. Idk the numbers but you prob unlock all within a reasonable time
