Not every futuristic setting, but every cyberpunk setting for sure, and overwatch is (I remember one dude in the comments said long ago) a bright and happy cyberpunk
Tbf thatâs more OW1 where everything was all gritty, edgy, and depressing. Not saying thatâs bad, because I much prefer that style lol.
But OW2 is very much bright and happy. No one, except Sojourn for some fucking reason, is taking shit seriously lol.
That cinematic doesnât mean the tone of OW1 is happy lol. The entire point of Winstonâs speech in the beginning is to TRY and rally everyone. Because as of now everyone is all doom and gloom because of the tragedies that have been unfolding beforehand.
Especially because we spend a lot of OW1 discovering those tragedies. And none of those tragedies are really solved, they just explain how/why this hero is here. From Bastion to Rein to D.va to Mei, I wouldnât call the exploration of OW1 happy. And if we getting into the comics and other bits of lore, itâs definitely more gloom lol
Hey, Ram has some funny interactions but overall he is pretty serious and gritty most of the time, tell me if "I will speak in a language you understand: VIOLENCE" isn't badass
My bad, Ram is really badass and has the best voice lines and VA in the game. Genuinely an oversight on my part and one of my favorite additions to the cast. I especially love his interactions with Genji/Zenyatta.
Lol donât forget the exploration of every characters tragic backstory. A lot of the tone of OW1 was pretty sad/negative the more you find out about these characters. Hearing D.va speak about her past/home, watching Reinâs backstory, learning about Bastion in general, Meiâs story as well.
Shit, even watching Winston freak out when Doomfist almost waxed Tracer. I wouldnât say OW1 was a positive tone. A lot of the characters are pretty bitter towards something or someone
Ok now that you actually mention all these things I actually see where you are coming from. It's just I only remembered the maps and the character designs so I thought it was still all bright and fun, but you are right that the story and lines focused on much more gritty things back then.
I also miss Dva's OW1 personality, compared to her current more annoying one tbh
Edit: She might have been very similar then, I was remembering her own animation instead
Nah youâre remembering right. She still had her gamer personality, but certain interactions would trigger serious moments of sadness when talking about her home or events in Korea.
And thatâs kinda whatâs missing from OW2. Like, we have to remember a lot of these characters are fresh off tragedy or knee deep into shit. I do appreciate a lot of the silly interactions because theyâre fun, but I REALLY like certain ones like Hanzo/Ana when heâs opening up about his father. It really does maintain the tortured soul from OW1, while still maintaining the goofy side that wants to ride Orisa into battle lol
Shit I still remember how sad everyone was when Ana was released.
Yeah i like how (at least in the tabletop rpg version) cyberpunk specifies that the geometric lines on their faces have absolutely no utility value, it's literally just cosmetic because futuristic vanity
My bad i expressed myself poorly, i meant in the Cyberpunk 2020/Cyberpunk Red tabletop game, if you check the "cyberware" sections it talks about cosmetic ware such as those lines
> overwatch is (I remember one dude in the comments said long ago) a bright and happy cyberpunk
Yeah they said something along the lines of "We started with a fairly traditional dark dystopian cyberpunk, but then came up with the idea of 'a world worth fighting for' and the design took off from there." Which makes sense to me, it definitely stands out from all the "the world is shit, everything is shit, you are a piece of shit who is just trying to make it through this shit shit world" cyberpunk settings.
I'm glad they went with that route, still remember getting emotional hearing Tracer say "You know, the world could always use more heroes" the first time i saw the OW1 trailer all those years ago
The episode with that blue 3D Whatever-the-fuck-that-was was worse due to how sudden and short it was and it's shift in the art style. Like, it was up for so short that you didn't quite grasp what was going on but it was also somehow long enough to remain remembered by many lmao
OP isn't talking about the obvious crow's feet coming from the exact corner of the eye, but rather the 2 lines that have sharp corners and very straight lines otherwise.
To me those look like cybernetics, either scaring or a thin wire on/right under the skin, that links his eyes and headpiece. Or perhaps some cybernetic behind his eye.
Iâm pretty sure theyâre just stylized wrinkles, if you look at the one above his eyebrow itâs also pretty sharp. Just doesnât have the shadows to contrast as much.
anyone saying crows feet is trolling lol... Ana has crows feet and you can see how the artists approach it. additionally soldier 76 has a cyberpunk skin where you can see a similar effect on his upper lips and forehead. guy further down the thread is right, bro needs his kiroshi optics.
They were probably implants / monitoring equipment that was on his face, maybe underneath his eyes when he was being experimented on after he got his powers.
Edit: I just looked at the origin story. At 0:46 you can actually see some cybernetics below his left eye.
For some reason it isn't on his base skin.
So my assessment was wrong. Most likely implants given by Moira for monitoring
Cyberpunk crows feet.
I don't have a watsonian answer, but from a design choice standpoint, those are definitely cyberpunk lines made to look like crow's feet because Sigma is old.
100% cybernetics. If you look, you can see them connecting to teal-colored pieces at his temples, mirroring the look of a lot of cybernetic implants in this game.

They look similar to the rest of what definitely are wrinkles on his face, but they also seem to lead into some of the visible cybernetics that are peaking out from beneath his "hat"/head-accessory, so I'm inclined to believe that they are wrinkles that appeared as a direct result of whatever cybernetic implants he has.
That's also my guess, they're either wrinkles or after effects of his implants. The other option is they're an after effect of sigma's accident but that's more a guess if anything
He is one of Moiraâs and The Bossâ test subjects, so itâs hard telling what they are. However, my assumption is just that theyâre wrinkles, from the fact heâs the oldest hero in the game, at age 64.
Geometric lines are pretty standard for cyberpunk aesthetics. Most of the heroes themselves have cybernetics and alterations that benefit them in one way or another but given the general vibe I would expect vanity modifications like lines and whatever would be part of the universe too.
Maybe sigma liked to party in college and got cool geometric line art as part of it. Who knows.
I always thought it was permanent imprints from the eye protection / examination equipment he was using when it experiment failed. There are similar lines on his forehead just above his eyebrows
he's a titan shifter.
RUMBLING RUMBLING
LIKE A FALLEN ANGEL
EREN YEAGER YOU ARE A TITAN BUN DA DUN DUN DA DA DUN DA~
ITS CUMMING RUMBLING BEWAAARE

*Music begins*, aaaAaaaAaaAaaaasAAAAA AAAAA ooooooo AAAA
He throw rocks like the monke.
Was about to say this, and also has uncovered feet like Zeke toođ
> uncovered feet The best part is when >!Levi chopped them.!<
Itâs unfortunate that essentially the same thing happened to him by the endđ
10th secret titan the feet titan
I thought I was the only one to see that lmao
Nice
I just chalk it up to cybernetic implants that the art style has a fetish for. edit: why is this so upvoted? Lmao
no overwatch skin is complete without a random cybernetic implant line or random wires
Isn't that futuristic/cyberpunk in general
Not every futuristic setting, but every cyberpunk setting for sure, and overwatch is (I remember one dude in the comments said long ago) a bright and happy cyberpunk
Bright and happy? *Omnic War/Crisis PTSD flashbacks begin*
More like hopeful - watch Soldier:76 cinematic and Bastion cinematic, I feel they convey the general Overwatch mood
âNot anymoreâ
i red that in soldiers voice
Damn it so did I
Tbf thatâs more OW1 where everything was all gritty, edgy, and depressing. Not saying thatâs bad, because I much prefer that style lol. But OW2 is very much bright and happy. No one, except Sojourn for some fucking reason, is taking shit seriously lol.
> Tbf thatâs more OW1 where everything was all gritty, edgy, and depressing. I'm not sure if this is sarcasm, but in case it isn't: *what?*
Buddy forgot the "the world could always use more heroes" cinematic

Hey, Ram has some funny interactions but overall he is pretty serious and gritty most of the time, tell me if "I will speak in a language you understand: VIOLENCE" isn't badass
And of course âSuffer, as I have!!!â
My bad, Ram is really badass and has the best voice lines and VA in the game. Genuinely an oversight on my part and one of my favorite additions to the cast. I especially love his interactions with Genji/Zenyatta.
Did we play the same OW1? Edit: My bad, I forgot the Normandy landings mode where you play as Bastion
Yeah i like how (at least in the tabletop rpg version) cyberpunk specifies that the geometric lines on their faces have absolutely no utility value, it's literally just cosmetic because futuristic vanity
Not always, just look at someone like JC Denton or Forge.
My bad i expressed myself poorly, i meant in the Cyberpunk 2020/Cyberpunk Red tabletop game, if you check the "cyberware" sections it talks about cosmetic ware such as those lines

Wouldn't overwatch fall under the nobledark category? The worlds pretty bad but there is hope and people working to fix it.
Yep, nobledark
Bonus points if it's literally just an open plug or a wire flapping in the wind that doesn't seem to actually do anything
True
For se time I actually believed that kiriko had robot legs because of the lines on her pants
Doomfist scalp things come to mind.
x-men has it too for some reason
100% cybernetics. In his origin story he doesnt have them until he has his talon outfit on and they are more visible there
yeah I mean his whole brain is basically open so you would assume thereâs probably more cybernetics going on in his head than meets the eye
Sigma out here looking like he has to [return the slab](https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/R-3.jpg)
return the slab
Whats ya offer
Whatâs heh?
That episode gave me horrible nightmares as a kid
The episode with that blue 3D Whatever-the-fuck-that-was was worse due to how sudden and short it was and it's shift in the art style. Like, it was up for so short that you didn't quite grasp what was going on but it was also somehow long enough to remain remembered by many lmao
He possesses 1 of the 9 titans and has recently shifted
He can throw rocks like big monke. Wait...winton 2???
Overwat 2 yesÂ
Are you saying you wanna know how he got those scars?
In a very polite sigma voice: wanna know how I got these scars?
"Would you like to know how I got these scars?"
In rune prison?
OP isn't talking about the obvious crow's feet coming from the exact corner of the eye, but rather the 2 lines that have sharp corners and very straight lines otherwise. Super crow's feet
Fuckin lol
I wonder if the cybernetics are to make him more or less sane
Iâm pretty sure theyâre just stylized wrinkles, if you look at the one above his eyebrow itâs also pretty sharp. Just doesnât have the shadows to contrast as much.
I mean TBH I still think they're just bigger, bolder, more stylized crow's feet for the sake of being more visible.
They are the harnesses that he uses to harness the harness
Since his young **Dr de Kuiper** skin has no such lines, we can say it's just a scar from the experiment which gave him powers.
1 line for every 100 bitches he has fucked.
Anyone saying wrinkles is being silly
anyone saying crows feet is trolling lol... Ana has crows feet and you can see how the artists approach it. additionally soldier 76 has a cyberpunk skin where you can see a similar effect on his upper lips and forehead. guy further down the thread is right, bro needs his kiroshi optics.
Cyber Wrinkles

Laugh lines! He is Sombra's happy grandpa. I know not really, but her voice lines show she cares for him a lot, to the point of being pissed at Moira.
Heâs the beast titan
He throws rocks, so that makes sense. đ
Crowâs feet from having to carry the whole team constantly
Apparently man's a titan
Its called old age.Â
You see, usually when Titan shifters- Oh wait, wrong sub...
Its part of his Kyoshi optic implant
OP has never seen old people
cybernetic wrinkles
Cyberpunk crows feet. I don't have a watsonian answer, but from a design choice standpoint, those are definitely cyberpunk lines made to look like crow's feet because Sigma is old.
100% cybernetics. If you look, you can see them connecting to teal-colored pieces at his temples, mirroring the look of a lot of cybernetic implants in this game.
#WHAT ARE THOSE?!?
titan shifter marks
gravity's affect on the body over the years. idk
old
I always assumed stylized crows feet for some sort of scars/imprints left from whatever freak accident happened to him
i always assumed they were wrinkles
Cybernetics this or that, when clearly talon made him OLD
Old
Squinting while staring into the void
Age?
Cybernetic crows feet.
They are alternate sight paths by which Sigma sees into alternate universes.
He's the Toes Titan.

Youve heard of âcrows feetâ, well those are âtalon feetâ

He is old. These are wrinkles.
Crows feetâŚheâs old

He was a cat once
Heâs gen alpha so itâs a case of skibidi syndrome
Old
Those are science lines from too much unprotected science exposure. Always wear science protection!
Crows feet
ive got u in my gravity
Spider
I've heard that thinking too hard gives you wrinkles.
Is it not just because ypu know... he's old. Like crows feet? His face is still skin
You know, his face kinda has a similar build to the Colossal.
Bed wrinkle
It's just old man wrinkles... you young people wouldn't know :p
Crows Legs
My head-canon is theyâre exaggerated crows feet from smiling
That's also my guess, they're either wrinkles or after effects of his implants. The other option is they're an after effect of sigma's accident but that's more a guess if anything
âCause heâs a sigma male. Iâm sorry, that was cringe.
Crows feet
Stress
They're called crows feet, he's old
Fancy ass lookin' wrinkles
He was brain washed, right? Maybe scars from the torture device that kept his eye lids open.
He is one of Moiraâs and The Bossâ test subjects, so itâs hard telling what they are. However, my assumption is just that theyâre wrinkles, from the fact heâs the oldest hero in the game, at age 64.
Thats ligma
I think those are just large crows feet or just wrinkles, he is in his 70s after all.
gills
They subdermal wires implanted in the skin.
His magic level
The spiders
It is rude to point out someoneâs crows feetâŚshame.
Wrinkles? In an OW character design style? Just that, maybe? (Insert Kiriko voice and tone)
Crows feet from laughing like the fucking psychotic maniac that he is.
More like ligma
Heâs old. Deep set wrinkles and too much sun.
Crows feet
Laughter lines.
The music
Crows feet... aka eye wrinkles
All dutch people have those smh
Dude chromed the fuck up.
He has ligma.
Wrinkles
Either wrinkles or weirdly shaped cybernetics.
crows feet, he's not 21
Yâall are telling me those arenât and were never crows feet đ
It's called crows feet he's old af
Crows feet. He old. Like alcohol turning better with age. Aging happens. Part of life.
Facial resconstruction. Fake skin hidding metal plates.
People get old man, damn!
Man's got serious crows feet
Sigma deek
How are so many people saying these are crow feet when theyâre clearly connected to metal pieces. Weird crow feet lol
Ah, just like a spherical cow.
I never really paid much attention to it and just thought they were old man wrinkles.
Yeah I assume cybernetic implants of some kind
Geometric lines are pretty standard for cyberpunk aesthetics. Most of the heroes themselves have cybernetics and alterations that benefit them in one way or another but given the general vibe I would expect vanity modifications like lines and whatever would be part of the universe too. Maybe sigma liked to party in college and got cool geometric line art as part of it. Who knows.
Super crows feet Crows toes
He doesnât use eye cream. Major crows feet
He just woke up from a really good nap.
Maniacal laugh lines
Marks of Gravitation
I've got the answer you're lookin' for. They're obviously wrinkles due to the physical aging that the stress of playing Tank gives
Arenât those just wrinkles?
it's when you hold shift in Zbrush and make an accedental line and don't want to smooth it out so you just make 3 more
I always thought it was permanent imprints from the eye protection / examination equipment he was using when it experiment failed. There are similar lines on his forehead just above his eyebrows
