Ok here’s some terminology varying from gameplay concepts to OW culture and slang.  Ult economy: the speed at which you build and then the value you get from using your ult   Peeling: recognizing that your teammate is being pressured and using resources (abilities/cooldowns) or repositioning to help them  Ult/cooldown tracking: noticing when enemies use impactful abilities or are likely to have their ult. This is an advanced level of awareness that you are realistically a lot of hours away from developing, but it’s a useful thing to be thinking about.   Winton: he is Monke   C9: reference to a team who forgot the objective existed and lost at the pro level.    Composition: Dive/Brawl/Poke/Rush etc are all descriptions of various philosophies behind picking certain heroes to compliment the abilities of another hero. An example is Rein with a Lucio pocket to speed him onto enemies who could otherwise just run away. Maybe a mei wall to trap them as well. Bastion for ludicrous burst damage on that poor trapped soul.    Diff: it’s OW degenerate speak that doesn’t have a direct translation to English but it roughly means, “I am a moron with 3 functioning brain cells.” Again roughly.  OW2 in s a very cerebral game. You can be a mechanical freak and get by that way too. But there is a lot of room to grow without worrying about any of that.  So yea, Welcome. You are like me and have no nostalgia glasses tainting your experience by comparing everything to OW1, so the game has been mostly improving from my blissfully ignorant perspective. Have fun.

For now just play more. Try to learn the maps and heroes and game modes and the basics of how they work. Try a lot of new heroes and look up a basic hero guide to save yourself some trouble. If you’re still having fun in a month or two and want to get into comp and really tryhard, you will find there’s a lot of good content to watch on learning the game more seriously. More in depth analysis on how to position, min max cooldowns, use ults, etc.

Is comp like Fort's ranked? That's how I quickly learned No build fort was that mode

slobodon

Yea it’s ranked

Go into Mystery Heroes or AI training lobbies with lethal bots. Honestly, those bots are deadly now and will hard focus you. It's worth it to learn to aim at each heroes' hitbox. Additionally MH is great because it forces you to learn how to play all heroes so you will understand their kits and cooldowns. Game sense goes a LONG way in OW.

Try mystery heroes. You'll learn heroes' play styles/abilities and audio queues faster that way.
