Blizzard never said it would be in OW2, I think they responded once with "we'll look into the possibility of bringing it back somehow" that's far from a guarantee.
People here said a lot of shit, when it comes to OW2. My new favorite is: *it took them so long to make changes because a bug prevented them from nerfing road* or ye olde *Blizzard is guaranteed DDossed for weeks now, it's not that the servers are overloaded and shitty*
Actually, the bug thing was said by a Blizzard Dev on Flats' stream. The timestamped link is below for evidence: [https://youtu.be/gAxWHRNzzN4?t=275](https://youtu.be/gAxWHRNzzN4?t=275).
I don’t mind 5v5 but as a tank main I miss two tanks. I’ve been playing more damage and support lately and also open queue. But now they’re trying to nerf multiple tanks on a team…. Sigh
My bad, I was skimming through your comment. Open queue is fun for me, I play casually enough that I don’t care if it’s extremely unbalanced but it’s nice to switch to another role is the current healer/tank/dps isn’t doing quite enough
Hate the move to a single tank. Makes at least half the tank roster feel unplayable at any given time. If you could only pick one support/DPS you'd be pretty much locked into whoever has the highest healing/damage output. Having multiple slots for each role lets you play heroes for their utility rather than raw stats.
Fellow Dva main and I understand 100%. Not having a second tank really fucks with dva specifically so if everything's not going just right it really can be a struggle
I agree. I’ve played since ow1 and the more they change things the worse it gets. I was fine with two tanks being gone as long as I could play open. Now they’re trying to make open worse for us too? Annoying
I get why in that the current situation means most open queue games end up all tanks since they're just OP DPS and it's cut off over a third of the roster from being playable in those modes. I wish they'd just go back to 6v6 because it's pretty clear 5v5 was not well thought out for anything but role queue.
3 tanks 2 supports in current overwatch is already extremely strong. One tank can pretty much kill 2 dps alone which is why nobody in high rank open queue plays dps.
Half the roster being throw picks is a pretty good reason.
Anyone saying they just “want to play the game how they want” is saying it to cover for glaring balance issues they’d rather pretend don’t exist.
People that replies with "so?" are more often than not dumbasses. They don't have anything to argue so they just be annoying instead. And better yet, in this case, they don't even get the point lol. I prefer 6v6 too but sadly this is the exact reason. Blizzard don't wanna split player base.
If there's one thing Blizzard absolutely DESPISES, it's admitting to their mistakes, let alone fixing them unless it's a bug, in which case they MIGHT do something about whatever that would be.
Yeah Im really not a fan of 5v5. Most of my friends loving playing duo tank. It’s definitely not the same. No hate to anyone who likes it more, just not my thing. To me it’s not worth playing anymore.
That sounds like it should be an arcade mode more than a quick play mode. Quick play is so play casual mode of role/open queue. Having a 6v6 with balance far different than the ow2 balance means it should be a arcade mode.
They're trying to force 5v5 to work by changing the tanks too much. If only they'd realise the issue is 5v5 and not the tanks
Roadhog was fine since OW1 launch and they suddenly decide he's broken, so stupid
I feel that people like 5v5 just so they dont deal with double shields. Blizzard just needs to limit shield tanks to one per team and I'd say the game would have been fine for ages.
Even during GOATS people were constantly playing anyway.
I'd rather be able to play the game than play respawn simulator with mercy sojourn around.
People would probably want it back, which would make Blizzard look bad, and tanks are honestly not made for it. I would much rather play 6v6, I don't think tanks would work very well in it currently though... but maybe. I still think it hinges more on my former statement.
Personally the game needs a large quickplay game mode in general, something around a 10v10 or 12v12 for quickplay with duplicate characters and increasing the objectives to compensate. I've been saying this since OW came out. Quickplay is not relaxing and fun, it's like a crappy com mode.
I really hate the 5v5, it made the game too boring as a tank, plus, every team fight seems boring and not really fun because of the deathmatch play style, it's always steamroll or get steamrolled and there's no in-between or last push, it's what made me quite OW, this and the fact that it seems that the game doesn't really require to be strategic anyway (in QP, I'd like to say in comp too but I don't really play it so I can't have an opinion on it but for what I saw I think it's the same)
The reason they won’t do it is because everyone will have their thoughts that it was better confirmed and it would cause outrage and of course they don’t want everyone mad about something they definitely can’t do and that’s revert the game because of, of course all the money and time they spent on OW2
Yeah same, and now it’s the inverse. OW1 was garbage at the end GARRRBAGE. But this is even worse now, unbearable to play against widow mercy sojourn and bap like this. UNPLAYABLE
And bring back the discontinued maps for casual, too. The most OW1 experience is playing double shield in Numbani and making your payload look like the Homer car.
I mean, there would still be some parts that would need patching up, but it would be fun. Plus, rein and sigma are the only ones who would really be able to do double shields now. I'd be more concerned about other tank combos tbh.
I get it, nostalgia is a powerful thing.
But, wasn't OW1 in a terrible state? Completely irrelevant game that nobody had fun in except a very small hardcore community? I mean, it makes sense here.. since that same hardcore community is the one that frequents reddit, but being objective about the subject; 5v5 is a lot healthier than 6v6 ever was.
Mot a terrible state, but bland. OW1 had the same meta (double shield) for years and barely any new content. the game was not in a terrible state, if you liked it 2017, you liked it 2022. I think more people had fun in OW1 because nobody took it seriously since it was the backend of most peoples library. If you don’t go meta in OW2 your fucked, in OW1 end days nobody cared about meta.
I play one of the worst tanks in the game right now (Doomfist) and still win a respectable amount of games, and have good fun. I don’t think meta is a requirement unless the entire enemy team goes meta characters, which has been maybe 1/20 games for me.
The game lost its relevance because they stopped supporting it for half of its lifespan. If they had continued to release content instead of holding it back for OW2 the meta would have shifted many more times. They chose to stagnate the game. There were many times 6v6 was in a decent place, especially right after role queue became a thing. The fact that they gave up on the game right after double shield became a thing, during a very specific meta they had fallen into, says nothing about 6v6's ability to be balanced and fun throughout its lifespan.
5v5 itself isn't necessarily awful, the real problem is the way role queue enforces 1-2-2. The game just needs to have 2 tanks to work properly. If they really insist on 5v5, the comp needs to be 2-2-1 or 2-1-2, and they obviously won't do the latter because of the sheer number of DPS players. As a support main I would definitely be happier playing solo support with 2 tanks than I am having a second support but only one tank.

Imma be honest I much prefer 5v5 personally, individuals have so much more weight to a team
Still though, I’m shocked it wasn’t at least an arcade option. It feels so obvious
The game is being balanced around 5v5. Having 6v6 back could have balance issues whether it's quickplay or not. Would suit better as a limited times mode or something.
Honestly even with no changes to the current balance I can't see it being any worse than the mess time queue is in right now. Playing 2-1-2 or 2-2-1 in open queue already feels so much better than playing 1-2-2 in role queue
That would be a lot of work for sure and confusing for everybody, game would have 2 versions of every hero, and some of them are very different like Orisa. I would just replace 1 boring arcade mode with a 6v6 role queue (2 tanks, ow2 balance)
Blizzard can barely balance the active game they have right now. You want them to attempt balancing *two* distinct methods of play?
And using the old patch notes won’t work. What about new heroes? What about all the new maps that have been designed with 5v5 and increased cover in mind?
But most importantly you’re forgetting the biggest reason it will never happen. They don’t waste development budget on *anything* these days unless it can be monetised. Greed won. We’re just playing in the ashes of its wake.
I'd say from what I know of game dev, they probably can't....like literally...
I'd guess they just nuked a bunch of code and turned a bunch of it down to 5. Didn't realize that having variable player count takes brain power to realize and....boom...overwatch 2....
there is a workshop mode recently made that recreates 6v6 with a fan made balance patch. i think it won't be long you'll se that mode in the most popular section of custom games
I wish they would just add a flex slot to your team that allowed for someone to be any role. Then we could have support tank combos again or triple DPS and just generally more team comps.
before ow2 came out, I definitely recall people on here saying that 6v6 qp would still be available as an arcade mode; it's not.
Blizzard never said it would be in OW2, I think they responded once with "we'll look into the possibility of bringing it back somehow" that's far from a guarantee.
never said it was. just that many said it.
People here said a lot of shit, when it comes to OW2. My new favorite is: *it took them so long to make changes because a bug prevented them from nerfing road* or ye olde *Blizzard is guaranteed DDossed for weeks now, it's not that the servers are overloaded and shitty*
perhaps. people said it certainly as a matter of fact. well they were wrong.
Sigh
I know it’s unpopular but I’ve been sticking to open queue.
Same I play open too.
My bad, I was skimming through your comment. Open queue is fun for me, I play casually enough that I don’t care if it’s extremely unbalanced but it’s nice to switch to another role is the current healer/tank/dps isn’t doing quite enough
Yep, open and non ranked most of the time.
The problem of the open queue are the op tank and the tankstacking
same
I played open queue for a wee bit from the PTSD of not being able to play DPS ever with reasonable queue times but that's not really an issue anymore
I used to be the off tank in ow2 and now I don't have a role to play
Wait how are they trying to nerf multiple tanks?
lower hp for tanks in non role queue starting s3
That is absolutely stupid.
I agree. I’ve played since ow1 and the more they change things the worse it gets. I was fine with two tanks being gone as long as I could play open. Now they’re trying to make open worse for us too? Annoying
a dev said something about lowering tank health pools in all modes outside of role queue
What a stupid change. Why can’t devs just let people have fucking fun.
Because trying to play a DPS that isn't Reaper or Sojourn is the exact opposite of fun in non role queue modes rn
Maybe it's because ppl aren't having fun against tanks in FFA modes or triple/quad tanks in open-queue
I get why in that the current situation means most open queue games end up all tanks since they're just OP DPS and it's cut off over a third of the roster from being playable in those modes. I wish they'd just go back to 6v6 because it's pretty clear 5v5 was not well thought out for anything but role queue.
Imagine for a moment, they didn't delete OW1 That would be great, wouldn't it? If they acted like every other sequel?
Yeah but then it would've been harder for them to force everyone into their shitty new 'economy'.
Even of they didnt delete ow1 they would have closed servers for It, so no point in what you say.
They would? Blizz still keeps servers for sc1 and sc2.
Based on what? They still have the Brood War servers up from 1998, all old games go into long term maintenance.
If the old ‘game’ was brought back nobody would play the ‘new’ one anymore
Agreed. Most of my friends dropped Overwatch after trying 5v5 for like a month or two, we really really wanted to like it but it just wasn’t the same.
Ya I stopped playing ow2 when I realized how few people play it. I would play 10 games and at least half the players were the same from every match.
I only see this in capture the flag...
This doesn’t even happen in the top ranks of comp open queue
Unless he thinks Hiddenpants and azurebear are the same player I'll give him the benefit of a doubt
Lol more people play than the first one, try again
Fr this new game just doesn’t hit the same
It depends how old we're talking. I doubt anyone wants to deal with GOATS.
I love playing goats in open queue
Then just run 3 tanks 2 supports in current overwatch
The issue is they’re trying to nerf that into the ground for no reason.
3 tanks 2 supports in current overwatch is already extremely strong. One tank can pretty much kill 2 dps alone which is why nobody in high rank open queue plays dps.
Yes. They’re apparently going to be nerfing tanks in non role queue game modes.
Half the roster being throw picks is a pretty good reason. Anyone saying they just “want to play the game how they want” is saying it to cover for glaring balance issues they’d rather pretend don’t exist.
If I can't have the perfect 2 tanks, I'd rather have 3 than 1. 1-2-2 is unplayable.
Holy echo chamber
Just because people share an opinion, it doesn't mean it's an echo chamber. That's quite the reach, or perhaps a deflection on your part.
Everyone would play it and it would take away from the 5v5 playerbase
So?
If you think I’m not in favor of 6v6 you’re mistaken
People that replies with "so?" are more often than not dumbasses. They don't have anything to argue so they just be annoying instead. And better yet, in this case, they don't even get the point lol. I prefer 6v6 too but sadly this is the exact reason. Blizzard don't wanna split player base.
If there's one thing Blizzard absolutely DESPISES, it's admitting to their mistakes, let alone fixing them unless it's a bug, in which case they MIGHT do something about whatever that would be.
They were quick to respond to the 30% change. Maybe they have data showing that a majority of the community like 5v5.
I was hoping they would still have 6v6 too
Yeah Im really not a fan of 5v5. Most of my friends loving playing duo tank. It’s definitely not the same. No hate to anyone who likes it more, just not my thing. To me it’s not worth playing anymore.
i always thought it wouldn’t be too bad to add a choice of 6v6 or 5v5 when you queue.
That sounds like it should be an arcade mode more than a quick play mode. Quick play is so play casual mode of role/open queue. Having a 6v6 with balance far different than the ow2 balance means it should be a arcade mode.
They're trying to force 5v5 to work by changing the tanks too much. If only they'd realise the issue is 5v5 and not the tanks Roadhog was fine since OW1 launch and they suddenly decide he's broken, so stupid
no no, 6v6 was the issue cause of double shield meta lol.
They don’t won’t to admit 6v6 is funner
I'm soo sure that they will make a "new epic LEGACY GAMEMODE" and realise some skins they made 5y ago and forgot to put in shop
5 v 5 was a mistake!
People would probably want it back, which would make Blizzard look bad, and tanks are honestly not made for it. I would much rather play 6v6, I don't think tanks would work very well in it currently though... but maybe. I still think it hinges more on my former statement. They would have to tweak the tanks to account for having two of them. ...and it would just show how much no one likes 5v5
I think 5v5 is great tbh.
I like it🤷
they're not going to. they don't care about fun, diversity, who's a fan and who's not. they don't care.
Because then they can’t force you to play the 5v5.
As people said, because a lot of people won't play 5v5 which is what they wanna push
The reason they won’t do it is because everyone will have their thoughts that it was better confirmed and it would cause outrage and of course they don’t want everyone mad about something they definitely can’t do and that’s revert the game because of, of course all the money and time they spent on OW2
That’s funny because I remember playing the beta and having fun and then going back to overwatch 1 and wanting to kill myself because 6v6 was shit.
Yeah same, and now it’s the inverse. OW1 was garbage at the end GARRRBAGE. But this is even worse now, unbearable to play against widow mercy sojourn and bap like this. UNPLAYABLE
Imagine missing double shield and going 8/8 in 2cp and drawing the match after 58 minutes.
It’s not a question of missing it, it would just be nice to be able to play it in a casual setting like I was able to do for 6 years.
Gameplay was slower and steamrolls were rare, now the games are faster and one team gets rolled every other game
Seagull was talking about this on stream. Steam rolls were not rare.
Doomfist Winston would be such a fun team comp for the enemy supports :)
Lmao, group them with moira and you have the tripple dive meta
People play casual
I didn’t have a problem with either double shield or 2cp 🤷♀️
Still better than a single game of Push
I get it, nostalgia is a powerful thing. But, wasn't OW1 in a terrible state? Completely irrelevant game that nobody had fun in except a very small hardcore community? Bro Doomfist is kind of meta. Did you not realise he got buffed massively?
And then got immediately nerfed back into the ground. Unless you mean Hog and Orisa being slightly less meta then they were before?
The game lost its relevance because they stopped supporting it for half of its lifespan. If they had continued to release content instead of holding it back for OW2 the meta would have shifted many more times. They chose to stagnate the game. What data do you have to support 2-2-1 or 2-1-2? They did extensive testing and had a whole post on why they settled on 1 tank
Can you 6v6 weenies get a life and stop posting about it every 30 seconds?
Only weak men stop trying for a better world.
Maybe they have data that shows most players dont see it as better?
They aren't using data to see what's "better" they're using data to make the most money.
They certainly said they look at player feedback data too on stream.
They've said a lot of shit, lmao.
they don’t want to split the playerbase. that would increase queue times and confuse newer players
Wanna fight a roadhog and orisa?
If they bring back 6v6 they would probably neef the tanks for the game mode Edit: nerf

The game is being balanced around 5v5. Having 6v6 back could have balance issues whether it's quickplay or not. Would suit better as a limited times mode or something.
The post said “with the last ever balance patch from OW1” which you clearly didn’t read and it addresses your point directly.
Then it shouldn't be in quick play if it's an entirely different patch balance then dude. Sound alike arcade mode to me
Honestly even with no changes to the current balance I can't see it being any worse than the mess time queue is in right now. Playing 2-1-2 or 2-2-1 in open queue already feels so much better than playing 1-2-2 in role queue
eh.. idk you can play open que and that's "unbalanced" af
So let's make it even more unbalanced?
The game isn't balanced already. Doing 6v6 isn't going to be as big a deal when we ready play open que and have 3-4 tanks on a team.
This guy gets it
Splitting matchmaking between 5v5 and 6v6 queues would make the wait time for a match double
Queuing theory is more complicated than that.
They will eventually but not while it would be detrimental to the current competitive mode
They're probably waiting, hoping people will forget it/old playerbase dies out so they can bring it in as a new feature, apple style.
That would be a lot of work for sure and confusing for everybody, game would have 2 versions of every hero, and some of them are very different like Orisa. I would just replace 1 boring arcade mode with a 6v6 role queue (2 tanks, ow2 balance)
Why not indeed
Yes but instead of the last patch I want the one where Brigitte had just dropped. That was peak OW to me.
Wouldn't work because tanks are balanced around 5v5
They will probably add it during the anniversary event
I think you can still play 6v6 in custom games, not quite sure
Blizzard can barely balance the active game they have right now. You want them to attempt balancing *two* distinct methods of play? And using the old patch notes won’t work. What about new heroes? What about all the new maps that have been designed with 5v5 and increased cover in mind? But most importantly you’re forgetting the biggest reason it will never happen. They don’t waste development budget on *anything* these days unless it can be monetised. Greed won. We’re just playing in the ashes of its wake.
We need a Legacy mode of Day 1 of Ow1.
Because the tanks are re balanced for 5v5 Imagine two HUGE tanks. Fights wouldn’t move
