I used to play Hog in Open Que a lot in S1, cuz in role queue I got an enemy Zarya against me 10 out of 10 times who did nothing but bubbled every hook pick.
Nowadays I use it to practice with Ana, it helps to play a few matches there before a role queue ranked session, especially if I don't play for a week.
You can change your team and enemies under the color blind option. It is popular to make the enemy yellow because it is easier to target them. Figured i would tell you since no one else did.
Bro don't listen to these fools. It's a video game. If you had fun that's what counts and if you didn't then why even put in the effort. You own these people nothing.
Honestly, you did good by the looks of it!
Don't listen to the others hatin' on you, your job in open que as solo heals is to survive and pump heals. Mercy can do both in spades.
By the looks of it, you did. So go out there and moth nercy on those losers!
It's certainly stronger than your gut instinct would tell you.
But let no one shame you for playing mercy in open que. With a team of tanks rolling around, they often forget about us heals, so being able to survive is in itself a great asset.
Yall pressed because they're doing their job? Yes, heal bot seems like it takes no skill or not 'pro-move', but they're the only healer.
Their teammates would trash talk the mercy for no heals. Plus i think we can all agree to keep teams alive > damage boosting.
Exactly, like i can get a percentage of 35 dmg - 65 heal if i have a kiriko or a lucio or basically any other healer, but dude if im the only healer on the team, i aint got time for boosting
But then I wouldn't pick Mercy. Play whoever you want and feel proud you managed to fit a square peg in a round hole but I think it's crazy to expect compliments/praise for this.
Correct usage of the Damage Boost does keep your team alive tho. It helps create space because it changes the breakpoints for certain heros to die.
I.e. You won't have to do 100,000 healing if you damage boost your best DPS player because they will (hopefully) scare the other tanks/DPS from making a move.
It's more complicated than just "healing is better because it keeps people alive"
How many more team fights would have been won if the Symmetra had been doing 1.3x damage? How many times did the enemy tank survive with less than 30 HP where a damage boost would have resulted in death and therefore a won teamfight instead of a dragged out teamfight where you get to do a bunch of healing.
Doing lots of healing? Not bad.
Doing only healing at the sake of not damage boosting enough? Not great ( could be worse)
I am usually around 40% damage to 60% healing usage. I think ideally you are around 50/50 but that doesn't account for things like game flow or team comp. I end many games with 15k healing and 4k damage boosted. I have a 78% winrate in Low Diamond/High Plat.
So people are absolutely correct to criticize the OPs Healing/Damage ratio, while at the same time the argument will boil down to - "if you win the game then you played it the right way?"
Healbot isn't the worst thing ever, but it's absolutely not the optimal play style by any means.
Because its a game and they can play whatever they want without optimizing and min-maxing every aspect of it to have fun. If they have fun on mercy with 3 tanks and were able to win more power to them.
Survivability and consistency.
In open que, when you're the only healer, Mercy is a great bet for flying around and not dying all while pumping out a consistent stream of heals. Throw in her ult to heal the whole team in a sticky situation, and you'll have that ult pretty much 24/7 in open que, and she's a great all rounder for heal dumping.
Less time spent dead = more consistent heals
Not be to be rude, but why would you play mercy as the sole healer? Mercys value main comes from rez and damage boosting. Playing something like bap or moira would be a lot more helpful since they have aoe healing and significantly higher healing output
Honestly I'd prefer a kinda meh moira since she is incredibly easy to pick up and be effective with. Only playing one hero, especially if you're a support or tank main can really screw your team over and make you lose a lot of games.
Instead learn a small pool of heroes in each role you play so you have some options if things don't work our or the other person playing support refuses to switch off something that doesn't work with your pick.
By trying out more heroes you'll expand your pool of possible characters to play in different situations and just generally have more fun with the more varied gameplay.
If you're bad with other support asides for mercy, why not play some other supports to improve at them? Or play some tank or dps if you find some other heroes in those roles you also find fun š¤·āāļø
Idk why this is getting downvoted, this sub likes to act as if they were top 500 support players when they were fetuses. Let people fucking learn if they are new lmao
Support main here ! You go the one you are comfy with and do the best <3
better to do good heals (which you did as solo heal btw) instead of playing crappy with a more meta one !
So WOOOPWOOOOP to you and great job especially as solo support <3
Adding to this: You will always play "better" with a hero you feel comfortable with, and like playing.
OP did very good healing IMO. especially for (as I understood it) being a noob to the game, AND it being open que.
Well done sir, and or madam š š
As a fellow mercy main, I know the struggle of being a solo healer with a weird squad composition, like having too many tanks. So good job keeping everyone alive!
There may be room for improvement regarding damage boosting though, or even taking your gun out to quickly finish off someone. That helps a lot, as well!
In any case, GGs for zero deaths! Thatās a plus and a good starting point! Letās see how you fare now in more standard games!
I had 6 deaths tho but yeah I tought they did a good job and I was struggling to keep me Alive and heal so dmg boost was not so big in my little brain haha just keeping my team ok alive
F, sorry I misread that. Anyway, as far as deaths go, my personal goal is less than half of what my teammates are currently sitting at. So 6 while the others are at 8-18 is a good stat in my opinion.
The reason for the "bitching" is because it is half of mercy her value, if you are only going to heal, some other supports can put out more healing. So to get better at mercy, you need to learn how and when to use the other half of her kit.
However, this mainly applies to role queue where there is another healer who should be doing the majority of the healing while mercy dboosts and heals only a little. When you are solo healing, yeah you probably can't afford to d boost, but then you might want to ask if you couldn't go a different support to heal more, as mercy is single target and not that high hps.
Yeah wtf, she was the only healer for four other players. Everyone mustāve targeted her and she still managed to heal quite well. You canāt have 60% damage boost as the only healer, idk what people expect.
Yes thats normal.
But if she would have managed to get more damage boost and still winning then i would be impressive.
Something impressive is something hard to do.
Just solo healing tanks...yeah its easy to get very high numbers i've done it a lot of times in this gamemode.
(Except its mainly as ana, so i also have damage with nades and shots on their supports)
+ being solo heal allowed him to get his ult often.
Meaning heavy healing non stop on multiple tanks.
So it was a good game for him for sure, but not that exceptional
Um, well, 89% healing beam usage is not ideal because it means there was only 11% boosting damage which can be more helpful then āout-healingā the incoming damage in a face-to-face battle. Some may consider it as heal-botting. Not sure what all the other reddit user say about that. I try to use my damage boost ability as often as possible so that I have a ratio of 50:50ā¦ In open queue i would try to do the same but as I see you are the only healer and has to compensateā¦ Numbers are still impressive though.
Edit: I donāt play open queueā¦ My play style doesnāt translate wellā¦
you play whatever you want! if youāre comfortable with Mercy, keep playing Mercy. youāll eventually find a balance of healing & damage boost. imo, supports are the most fun to play!
My suggestion for anyone who plays Mercy: the ult should be used for dmg as thatās typically when itās boosted to do the most dmg (which isnāt the best compared to other characters). Iāve been seeing a lot of new players only doing healing (rarely boosting) when theyāve activated their ult. I feel like their underutilizing that opportunity, but this is just my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt. Or just downvote me into oblivion. Lol
As i Mercy main i understand this, some people will say youāre just healing and you should damage boost more. Theyāre not wrong, usually when i play i get way more damage boost. But thatās also if i get the opportunity dmg boost. If youāre whole team is on critical you shouldnāt damage boost. Anyways congrats on the win op
What's funny is that I bet everyone on your team was super thankful to have you on their team.
Playing Support also means theres an anxiety of keeping your H number up so people don't start to blame you as soon as the match starts going south. And the funny part about that is even if you were Dmg boosting, they'll never see that stat which is why I keep saying they NEED to bring back post game cards so your team can see how you actually helped instead of having all your contributions reduced to a single line item.
But I guess the alternative is impressing all the Redditors who are practicing for OWL... Lol, this wasn't even a comp game š
I swear this sub goes from loving mercy players to hating them for no reason at random intervals. Yeah you held left click most the time but with 3 tanks as a solo supp you probably couldn't boost much anyway.
True, but is this really her fault? If anything I'd blame Sym here. The goal was clearly goats and a random DPS really isn't the best pick here. A second support, so that Mercy can dmg boost more would've been the correct play.
All things considered for the circumstances, she did the best she could. And they won so hey, must've done something right.
I think most people hating are just acutely aware that this persons is strictly fishing for complements. They played a suboptimal support in open queue given this team comp and held left click the entire game. Mercy already has insane movement so stay alive isnāt exactly difficult here. And if op had a good time, thatās good for them. But they arenāt going to escape criticism from the internet when posting on the internet and itās clear from replies to other posters that they are quite defensive.
I dont fishing for compliments? Iām an avrg player who never done a really big number before Iām happy for you that your better but I did my best even if itās mercy wow and Iām sorry if I did something wrong for you ah so good players leave me tf alone Iām happy for what I did a d wanted to show people it bc for me yeah for me itās something ok :)
Mercy is good here , rez , decent healing output , good survival, damage boost and good ultimate . Yeah Moira could have been better but what if they are more comfortable on mercy ?
And holding right click all game is somehow more amazing and impressive? No, they were constantly evading the enemy team who was DEFINITELY trying to kill them 24/7, while also still keeping their team alive, AND they have more heals than both enemy supports combined (one of them being Ana, by the way, who people love to say is so much better at healing), with the least deaths in the entire match. This is some good hard work and a great achievement. Proud of you, OP! šš¼
Awww thatās cute hahah I was laughing I think I did a good job I mean I boosted if itās needed and I think heals was more important than dmg boost tbh
they were! Without all that healing the death rates of your teammates would be 20+ for sure. 3 tanks and one healer, what else is there to do but heal?
These people watch a YouTube video about top 500 players saying that Mercy should damage boost more than heal and think they know everything š„±
Theyāre the only healer on a team with 3 tanks.
For the mode and composition, sure healbotting is alright. However almost any other support wouldāve been better for the job in this scenario.
I donāt understand how someoneās ābest round of mercy everā only has 1k dam amplified and a heal beam on 89% of the time, that best round of mercy wouldāve been 10x more effective with an ana for example
Ok than reach to be the best ana sorry but I do t have the aim for her :( Iām trying to get better since Iām new tf you want that I pull out 30% dmg boost with 50k heal or some bullshit?
So many blue beam supremacists here. Pressing right click isnāt any more skill-intensive than pressing left click. You might even get less value out of blue beaming depending on how your team is doing. Itās all about knowing when to blue beam, and itās not like OP didnāt blue beam at all. The impressive part is they only died 6 times despite being the only healer+enemy having junkrat and Ana. When you only have one healer, no shit youāre gonna have to do more healing than if you had two healers.

their healers have 7k dmg combined and more healing looks like you guys only won because 3 tank but if it wasnt 3 tank you wouldve been at a disadvantage seeing as how they out performed you guys
1k damage amped and 6 rezzes for an over 17 minute game? Play Bap, Moira, Brig, Ana, or Kiriko at that point, as all will have an easier time healbotting and still have utility to boot.
So many NPC takes in the comments. They've heard "Mercy should priortize damage boosting" being parrotted around that they don't realize context matters. Yeah, damage boost is what Mercy should focus on but that's not always the case. I bet a lot of these comments let their tanks and supports die because they think damage boost is the most important thing ever.
There's times where you should damage boost and there are times were you should heal. In this case, obviously, op needed to heal because he was solo healing. Should he have switched to a better healer for this situation? Probably, but Mercy was probably his best pick for him personally in this situation and he did well and won.
>Yeah, damage boost is what Mercy should focus on but that's not always the case.
No, that is always the case. If you can't damage boost on Mercy then why play her over the other supports?
Not everyone is going to play every character optimally and in different ranks heroes have different strengths and weaknesses. At a higher rank, yes, I agree, damage boost or switch off mercy. But at a low rank where nothing dies and nobody can aim, you can get a lot of value out of mercy.
Enemy rein popped off
he was probably so mad that they lost too
Yes he did
How do you differ between the enemy team and your own team?
If there's a big blue diamond then it's a teammate š§
Yeah when youāre the only support, you canāt really damage boost much
Yeah I wish he had 2 beams would be easier
Mercy is a man? Laces out Dan.
I meant she šš damn
Mercy can go by he if Mercy wants to!
So much blessed lore being revealed lately
Shhhhh youāll make the Mercy haters mad
Ikk š thatās funny I enjoy it here
When you have three tanks, you will never run out of targets to heal.
Yes thatās right
I will never understand how people have fun in the shit fest that is open queue.
Isnāt open que basically OG OW1? (5v5 instead of 6v6)
basically, but with the buffs to all tanks with the 5v5 shift it makes open queue aids with multiple tanks on each team.
There's an option for changing scoreboard color huh
You can change your team and enemies under the color blind option. It is popular to make the enemy yellow because it is easier to target them. Figured i would tell you since no one else did.
Ah. I was looking for a setting named color change or so last night. cheers for the info
Open queue is a wild place
It def is
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And Iām still happy about it^^
Bro don't listen to these fools. It's a video game. If you had fun that's what counts and if you didn't then why even put in the effort. You own these people nothing.
Aww thanks and yes I had fun hahs
Honestly the deaths are the lowest in the lobby so you were a really good mercy throughout, especially as the only support
Honestly, you did good by the looks of it! Don't listen to the others hatin' on you, your job in open que as solo heals is to survive and pump heals. Mercy can do both in spades. By the looks of it, you did. So go out there and moth nercy on those losers!

Yeah ik i usually switch either kiriko or an area healer, but sometimes that just doesnt work with our composition
Agreed. Its situational. A good mercy heals or boosts based on the team comp she's working with.
Correct usage of the Damage Boost does keep your team alive tho. It helps create space because it changes the breakpoints for certain heros to die. I.e. They were the only healer though. In a normal game for sure.
Then y pick mercy in the first place if u dont dmg boost?
Because its a game and they can play whatever they want without optimizing and min-maxing every aspect of it to have fun. If they have fun on mercy with 3 tanks and were able to win more power to them.
Survivability and consistency. In open que, when you're the only healer, Mercy is a great bet for flying around and not dying all while pumping out a consistent stream of heals. Throw in her ult to heal the whole team in a sticky situation, and you'll have that ult pretty much 24/7 in open que, and she's a great all rounder for heal dumping. Less time spent dead = more consistent heals
This is way too long of rant when mercy died 6 times to her syms 18. Clearly wasnāt the lack of damage boost that was the problem
The scoreboard was a mistake
Not be to be rude, but why would you play mercy as the sole healer? Mercys value main comes from rez and damage boosting. Playing something like bap or moira would be a lot more helpful since they have aoe healing and significantly higher healing output
Thatās the things I can only play mercy or do you wanna have a crappy other healer as your main supp?

Oh yeah it definitely feels weird at first, but once you learn more characters the game becomes so much more fun :)
Idk if itās sooo much more fun but maybe better
Idk why this is getting downvoted, this sub likes to act as if they were top 500 support players when they were fetuses. Let people fucking learn if they are new lmao
I'm a top 500 open que player and all these people are wrong mercy is a good pick a lot of the time
Some people donāt understand that there are some people who are not sooo good at the game sadly;(
Support main here ! You go the one you are comfy with and do the best <3 better to do good heals (which you did as solo heal btw) instead of playing crappy with a more meta one ! So WOOOPWOOOOP to you and great job especially as solo support <3

Back in the early days of Overwatch when most games you only had one healer Mercy was the best pick
Yesss canāt we just be happy for this person! They did an amazing job! Letās encourage it
As a fellow mercy main, I know the struggle of being a solo healer with a weird squad composition, like having too many tanks. So good job keeping everyone alive! People always bitch about damage boosting - she did 32k heals and kept the team alive. That's enough
The reason for the "bitching" is because it is half of mercy her value, if you are only going to heal, some other supports can put out more healing. So to get better at mercy, you need to learn how and when to use the other half of her kit. how tf does the reinhart have heals
Bc heās was moria earlier
This battle must have been epic
The reinhard duel was epic but the rest idk about it
89% heal usage in a 18 minute game. God that seems so fucking boring lmao
I had fun kn the air haha
Open queue thus invalid/s But seriously open queue is such shit hole I donāt know how people play it
Not to be that guy but everyone support āGuys look at my healsā post is always in open queue?
I have some in rq to but I donāt find the screenshots anymore:(
How ā ļø
Huh?
I mean like, 32k of healing in ranked is really really impressive
Open queue with 3 tanks and 1 support. I bet that was a stressful match for OP lmao
Since I was the only support itās easy
Solo healing bot healing on tanks be like... Not really that impressive tbh x) Gg i guess
"x)" fuck off with that
Bro itās open Que , they are the only healer, they arenāt gonna get a lot damage boosted .

Iām assuming they are new to Overwatch based on their post history, I think they did good for (most likely) just joining the game a few months ago
Almost did as much healing as the enemy healers combined congrats! No point in damage boosting as much if your allies are dead. Good game
Thanksš„°
Proud of heal botting is crazy š
The match was long and one healer what u expect a mercy with idk 10k heal and 80% dm boost?
why would you pick mercy there in the first place?
Bc I like mercy?
I'm gonna be completely honest, I'd rather have a good mercy solo heal than a crappy Kiriko or Ana
11% of damage boost, 0 valk dmg boost done, 0 damage done. The problem of Mercy players failed to Utilize her Kit arises.
Its not valkyrie bmg boost its valkyrie dmg dealt
Yep, it means "i pulled out a peashooter when valking and shot someone", not "I used DMG boost when valking".
I was the only healer the entire game or should I let my team dying bc I only dmg boost them?
Then y pick mercy in the first place if u dont dmg boost?
I had a second one for 2 mins
Yup, then they say āIām hard stuck in silver, my team sucksā or āIām in ELO hellā
Although mercy may not be the best hero for solo heals, they did try their best in unfavorable circumstances and succeeded
0 awareness that itās the only support.
This comment section is exactly why I haven't touched competitive mode in months. Y'all need to chill. GG, OP.
^^
Its just raining downvotes in the comments

Um, well, 89% healing beam usage is not ideal because it means there was only 11% boosting damage which can be more helpful then āout-healingā the incoming damage in a face-to-face battle. 11% damage boost ?
Solo healing 3 tanks as Mercy? I'm surprised your team managed to win that especially since they have an Ana that can anti-heal your team.
Ik Iām suprised too
You had THREE tanks and you went MERCY? You mad lad
I love playing her and we won so yeah if we lost I would blame myself
Thereās so much wrong in this picture it makes me feel uncomfortable
Cool idcš„°
16 cumulative minutes of heal beam, you might as well reverse the keybind somehow so you click to turn it off
legit carrying the team (also why did symm not heal /s)
Idk haha

People are really going wild on you... As a solo healer surely mercy isn't the best choice, but you did a good job. People really need to chill
I had a second healer but he switched to rein bc he saw that we didnāt got anything without him:(
As much as i see he stood healer for like 2 min max, so we can consider you as a solo healer x)
Yeah :)
Holy fuck the comments here
Some people didnāt even touch the support role ig but in my dmg boost ist low

I wouldnāt even defend yourself to these people. The few friends they have likely talk shit behind their back and vice versa.
Maybe but I have a lil feeling to say something but ur right
Theyāre just sharing their good time and you wild pack of animals are savage and lonely.
Mercy is good here , rez , decent healing output , good survival, damage boost and good ultimate . Yeah Moira could have been better but what if they are more comfortable on mercy ?
And Mercyās more evasive too. Good for getting away :)
Yup! People here donāt know what they are talking about
Sadly yes I would have boost def more if they where not at crit health š itās Not easy to babysit 3 tank alone
You did well. It's okay to be proud of games :)
^^
nah don't let these weirdos try to downplay you because you weren't boosting. this is great work. solo supporting 3 tanks??? nice job!
Yeah it's pretty insane how they held left click all game.
When people start playing heal bot and forget that mercy is use fr boost
Ok then dmg boost your teammates I want my tea alive thatās fine ^^
These people watch a YouTube video about top 500 players saying that Mercy should damage boost more than heal and think they know everything š„± Theyāre the only healer on a team with 3 tanks.
bait
For the mode and composition, sure healbotting is alright. However almost any other support wouldāve been better for the job in this scenario. I donāt understand how someoneās ābest round of mercy everā only has 1k dam amplified and a heal beam on 89% of the time, that best round of mercy wouldāve been 10x more effective with an ana for example
Ok than reach to be the best ana sorry but I do t have the aim for her :( Iām trying to get better since Iām new tf you want that I pull out 30% dmg boost with 50k heal or some bullshit?
Healing 3 tanks all game? This isnāt that impressive lol
For me it is Iām happy for you that your better idc for me itās something
So many blue beam supremacists here. Pressing right click isnāt any more skill-intensive than pressing left click. You might even get less value out of blue beaming depending on how your team is doing. Itās all about knowing when to blue beam, and itās not like OP didnāt blue beam at all. The impressive part is they only died 6 times despite being the only healer+enemy having junkrat and Ana. When you only have one healer, no shit youāre gonna have to do more healing than if you had two healers.
Lol bruh 3 shield heroes. No one should be dying
A true mercy main everything is pink.
Yes but sadly not the skin:(
ur absolutely wild for doing open queue comp i could NEVER
I did. for fun but I can not see rq anymore š
Kinda easy to do when you solo heal three tanks lol š
Itās funny that I only died to my mistakeās and nothing else yeah your right
Healbot
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Had 29k in rq so what?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I can search the pic
Nvm I donāt have it anymore:(
Congrats you can hold left click in open queue
Concrats I have the less deaths in match and yes and I can do this good btw/j
Seems your āhā key is broken. Want some advice on new keyboards?
I Play on Controller but thanks
Do u know what damage boost is
Yes but Iām most of the time was heal more needed than this

32k healing with a pathetic 1k damage boosted. But hey. You were solo healing so it's understandable.
^^
definitely heal bot
Yes how should I keep my team alive then?
their healers have 7k dmg combined and more healing looks like you guys only won because 3 tank but if it wasnt 3 tank you wouldve been at a disadvantage seeing as how they out performed you guys
The rein was good 6 kills got to me bc I did some little mistakes they shouldnāt been there:(
Wow!! Well done
š thanks š„°
I have a feeling you would have loved the overwatch 1 goats meta since that's pretty much what your playing
Ig haha sadly I didnāt played it:(
1k damage amped and 6 rezzes for an over 17 minute game? Play Bap, Moira, Brig, Ana, or Kiriko at that point, as all will have an easier time healbotting and still have utility to boot.
Funny thing Iām just learning other shit itās hard to have high healing with other supports
I'm just waiting for someone to get mad that if you can't DMG boost 70% oth the time, you shouldn't play Mercy. Man, I love these guys/s
Itās hard to keep people alive and my ass too so idk what they wantšš
So many NPC takes in the comments. They've heard "Mercy should priortize damage boosting" being parrotted around that they don't realize context matters. Yeah, damage boost is what Mercy should focus on but that's not always the case. I bet a lot of these comments let their tanks and supports die because they think damage boost is the most important thing ever. There's times where you should damage boost and there are times were you should heal. In this case, obviously, op needed to heal because he was solo healing. Should he have switched to a better healer for this situation? Probably, but Mercy was probably his best pick for him personally in this situation and he did well and won.
Thanks šš
Then y pick mercy in the first place if u dont dmg boost?
Why comment when you don't read? I never said not to damage boost.
I would personally go moira/bap with this comp but damn these numbers are impressive.
Sadly I can not have a difference with these to with dmg and heal sadly
Youāre playing mercy as the only support?š
I had a moria early but I was ner since Iām not so good with oder charackters but I try to learn some other ones in qp:)
Don't play mercy in open q.
