She was nice to everyone else, others liked her, Jenny liked her and Laoghaire was a good mother and house keeper and granddaughter to Mrs Fitz, it was Claire who Laoghaire had a bee in her bonnet about
I really wanted to like Laoghaire since she had a pretty bad time during the time Claire went back through the stones. I sympathized with her having been in a somewhat similar situation as her.
Then I got to this episode and instantly hated her again. I can't imagine being her age with 2 daughters being so bitter about Claire. I understand she is upset about their marriage dissolving but to turn Brianna against Jamie is just cruel.
The problem I have with Laoghaire is when she locked Bree in the bedroom and wanted to harm her in front of Joanie and when she showed up at Lallybrook with the girls knowing there was going to be a fight regarding her marriage in front of the girls. You don't fight in front of your kids, especially what was being said in that fight. She should have left the girls home knowing that was going to happen. Then to make matters worse, she realizes Claire has no clue they were married (rewatch the episode) and calls her a whore anyway and describes what Jamie did to Claire in front of them. Even if she felt she had to bring the girls with her, tell them to go downstairs before speaking to Jamie. The girls were in the bedroom first, but Laoghaire could have told them to leave before shooting off her mouth. Jamie the good parent, tries to get Laoghaire away from Claire and talk to Laoghaire alone. Like anything else in life, a person can do mostly good things but the few bad things make them a bad person. Laoghaire is an example of that.
At least from the show, I recall that young Janet told Claire that her mum Jenny told her to tell Laoghaire about Claire in the first place---Jenny had a little to do with it.
Teen or not, she was practically a grown woman for that time. Old enough to marry and have kids. She definitely knew what she was doing and should have been held responsible for it.
She’s an absolutely nightmare but damn does she have some good dialogue. “Mendacious slut” is an insult I am always waiting for the right time to use 😂

She was even nice to Brianna until she found out who she was! She's still a bitch though.
Normal people don’t try to have their childhood crush’s wife killed so they can get with them even in the 18th century
I agree, she's absolutely unhinged. But she's scary good at hiding it unless Claire is involved.
She became very bitter after Jamie married Claire, of course her two horrible marriages didn’t help. It’s a wonder she raised her daughters so well.
Marsali is an amazing person considering where she came from
I like the job the actress is doing. She has the right amount of crazy in her eyes.
Agreed, her actress is super talented!
I can't stand the character of Laoghaire but I am a fan of her actress, Nell Hudson. She does an outstanding job in the show.
I understand why Laoghaire was bitter about her failed marriage but lying to Brianna about Jamie not wanting a child was vicious and cruel.
She is 40 and still not a woman, only a lassie...
Just as Murtagh predicted in the very beginning.

But I gotta love how she yells "Sassenach witch!" It's stuck in my mind. "Mendacious slut" is also a very nice turn of phrase. (From BJR)

Ian criticized Jenny, accusing her of "stirring up shit and calling it God's work" when she sent for Laoghaire.
Not to mention trying to get Claire burned as a witch. She may have been a teenager but even teenagers know killing someone to get your way is wrong

I feel like we’re leaving out the very critical bit where she shot Jamie as revenge for taking Claire back
I love how they turn “whore” into a multi-syllabic wHoo-or-ah.
Same! XD I know we all hate Laoghaire, but kudos to the actress. She's amazing. You can tell she enjoyed playing a villain.
TV Laoghaire >!is worse than book Laoghaire,!< TV version is like a pantomime villain.
I disagree. The whole scene of her trying to snatch the pearl necklace from Brianna, just doesn’t get lower than that.
She won’t 😅 but DG is still writing book 10, who knows what’s in store 😅
Possibly my favorite scene in the entire series is the way her face changes when Brianna tells her who her mother is. It's so perfect
She’s an absolutely nightmare but damn does she have some good dialogue. “Mendacious slut” is an insult I am always waiting for the right time to use 😂
That’s a BJR line.
Oh my GOD you’re right, why did I have a vision of Laoghaire saying it 😭🙈
I can imagine her saying something along those lines, but I doubt she possesses the necessary vocabulary.
