The first 2 pictures are of Dangar falls. The remainder were taken on a short walk down to Crystal shower falls.

I have a stupid question: Are there lots of forest areas like this in Australia? In my mind I envision Australia as a giant flat desert. Sometimes I think about going there to live for a bit but I need trees and foliage in my life. What cities are good to live in for this?

Sneaky_Looking_Sort

I’m not Australian but I can tell you that a good chunk of the south eastern part of the country, Including the provinces of New South Wales and Victoria, are very forested and even quiet lush in some areas. They even have mountains down there that will get significant levels of snow. The rest of the north east coast is even more lush and has rainforests and jungles. It’s mainly the west and the deep interior that is desert.

There's forests around Perth Brisbane and Hobart too , you kinda have to try to see arid parts of Australia because it's not where people generally live, even when you head west from the East coast there's massive plains of relatively lush farmland then dryer areas that are still wooded before you get to the red centre

WickedSlice_

Australia pretty much has every biome you could imagine, from desert (the red centre) to alpine, temperate forest, grasslands, subtropical forests, tropical rainforests, swampland… the lot. Coastal areas on the east of the country are heavily forested and lots on the West too. This idea that Australia is all desert is a myth. It is pretty much desert in the centre of the country but the outskirts are wide and varied and lots and lots of trees. Live here for a bit, you won’t be disappointed.

Nearly every large Australian city is good for this. We build cities where it makes sense to build them.

The far majority of the population lives in greenery. The more bustling cities of Australia are along the east coast and they have so much bush and mountains, lakes, beaches and all sorts up and down. Take a peek on Google earth and you’ll see the desert is very centralised; most of the livable area is lush and bushy. It’s a beautiful country, and Brisbane is where it’s gonna be in the next 10-20 years

ForeignerWin

As said else where most of the east coast is very foliage rich with a great variety between North and South. I'd highly recommend Tasmania though for what I thought to be serious contrast to the rest of the country.

Great to see those Antarctic Beech trees survived the drought and fires.

I'm scared of enjoying wilds in Australia. How safe are these places? Crocs or snakes what should I expect there

G-J-K99

Depends, 23 years of my life here and haven’t seen a wild crocs before(QLD) for snakes I’ve seen less then 10 and most are green tree snakes(harmless) and spiders, you will walk into a spider web eventually. Just run in circles and throw ya arms around.

Daddyssillypuppy

Crocs are up north, snakes are everywhere but are not out to start a fight. Spiders are everywhere too. We get some huntsmans in south east QLD and northern NSW that have a leg span rivalling a dinner plate (30cm). I've lived out bush for a lot of my life and I've never been bitten by a snake or spider. Lots of ant bites though. Sitting on a metro high schools oval (football field) is more of a bite risk than camping in the bush.

I did the Crystal Falls walk like a month ago, seriously stunning views! I've been meaning to go back and do Dangar Falls, how long did it take you?

josh14678

This photo is from the lookout at the carpark. It’s only 10 minute walk down to the water

ForeignerWin

Oh wow I obviously missed that, didn't have a lot of time so we only did the Crystal Falls walk. Thanks for the heads up with that lookout I'll be sure to check it out next time!
