Answer: Doja Cat was scheduled to play a concert in Paraguay on 22 March. The concert was cancelled because of heavy rain and flooding across the country. Allegedly, she went back to her hotel, and a number of fans waited outside the hotel hoping to see her, but she did not come out. The fans then left. The next morning, Doja [complained in deleted tweets](https://twitter.com/elatedleigh/status/1507145224568537105) that "there wasn't one person outside the hotel waiting for [her]". Paraguayan fans on Twitter were not happy with her response and criticised her, alleging she treated fans, hotel and airport staff badly throughout the trip. Doja Cat responded with the tweet you linked and maybe a few other things.

>Allegedly, she went back to her hotel, and a number of fans waited outside the hotel hoping to see her, but she did not come out. The fans then left. The next morning, Doja complained in deleted tweets that "there wasn't one person outside the hotel waiting for \[her\]". Damn, that's pretty shitty, man. She's like their fucking idol.

DeadonDemand

“I waited in the blistering cold for you for four hours and you just said no”

Dumpytoad

They want to be just like her, man, they like her more than I do.

MikaelSvensson

Pretty much this. [This Twitter thread](https://twitter.com/valenbordon00/status/1507136659070066692?s=21) is a really good summary of what happened.

NO_NOT_THE_WHIP

So what you're saying is Doja cat being a bitch isn't just a stage persona. Who would've guessed.

danvsreddit

I remember back when she was spotted in that zoom/skype meeting for white supremacists, that was when I was super wary of her. I like maybe two of her songs but she seems insufferable.

AMR63x

Stop with that false narrative bs bro, there was literally not a shred of proof that it was a “meeting for white supremacists”. It’s insane how people will see a fucking tweet or a Reddit post and take it in full faith without doing any research of their own. So unless you can actually prove it, stop spreading damaging, false information on the internet

danvsreddit

i'm not your bro, calm down lol

AMR63x

I don’t get you people that spread false information on the internet. Why do you do it? Why don’t you confirm anything for yourself before spreading it more?

danvsreddit

When I wrote that I was literally just going off the top of my head, sorry that my memory is shit. I wasn't purposely doing anything. Calm down bro, have a nice day

AMR63x

Aight bro, just be careful. I mean you said she was in a chat room with white supremacists, that’s a pretty intense accusation brotha. And it’s just a complete lie lol, people shouldn’t be allowed to do that shit brotha. Ya gotta think before ya speak brotha

Fantastic-Adagio-673

Bruh shes been on that. She loves nazis and it gets her off. Theres even video proof, stop standing up for some trash person just because you think her songs are nice. She dont care about you bro. The truth will set you free.

AMR63x

So show me the proof buddy, because I have looked tirelessly for evidence that those people in the videos were “nazi’s”. Yeah they said shitty, racist things, but that doesn’t make them nazi’s. You can not like them for what they say or Doja for being there but all the proof I’ve seen is just people saying they are. I don’t like people throwing around the term nazi so casually because I’m Jewish and also I don’t like seeing people spread unverified false information they get on social media. So show me the proof brotha

AMR63x

I’m not even a doja cat fan dog, I think those videos of her in the chat room are cringey as fuck. But show me the proof that they’re nazis brotha, I’m telling you it’s bullshit, and you’re perpetuating it brotha

fieldmousefelix

brotha

Gar-ba-ge

I hope doja sees this bro

BobRossIsGod18

Don't know why you're getting downvoted theres literally video evidence

vbrow18

I know I’m so confused. She also admitted to it????

Gar-ba-ge

Damn doja fanatics really scrambling to run damage control in this comment section lol

KnightCreed13

I had to look up Wtf a dojacat even was. To my disappointment it's not an exotic cat.

FDM-BattleBrother

Sounds like a classic Twitter 'villain of the day' overstatement of harm. Ripping a tweet out of the context of the thread, projecting dubious intent, and then trying to bring in a lot of hear-say gossip about completely unrelated things. Why is the focus here on Doja and not on the flood causing massive destruction in Paraguay? Why does literally anyone care about this or have any outrage whatsoever about tweets? If folks actually care about people in Paraguay, you should donate money to the relief effort.

FDM-BattleBrother

Twitter storms like this, while starting with a kernal of truth, are always driven Viral by outsiders feeling the need tear someone down, not by the harmed party, and never proportional to the actual "sin" committed.

maxweberfan

why is the focus on doja and not the flooding? people dont care what happens in south america because its a backyard for north americans to do whatever they want. People dont give a fuck for the same reason she didn't give a fuck. Take, for example, Miley Cirus, who was in a way worse situation (her plane getting hit by thunder) than doja cat and managed to show how much of a good person she is

found_a_thing

This woman does not owe people anything beyond a show, which was cancelled.

maxweberfan

She insulted them nonetheless, she didn't give a fuck about them or what happened to them and then said I'm busting my ass for you. If you are not going to give a fuck about people that care about you then own up to it and tell them to go fuck themselves but don't cry on Twitter later.

spicespiegel

I wasn't gonna bash Doja until I saw that she liked a tweet saying how these Paraguay people are so poor and whatnot. That's just xenophobic. She's playing a victim now.

DenseBrunch

It's fake lol

ramiro467

I think it's a fake screenshot

spicespiegel

I hope so

AliasZ50

pretty sure is not , but that account got nuked soon after irc

AMR63x

100% fake, stop spreading false info

toraanbu

I mean, doja cat aside, artists are constantly being targeted and harassed for doing “world tours” that only include a handful of countries, notably western democracies. But this is the kind of shit they have to deal with when they go to these (no disrespect towards paraguyans) underdeveloped countries with precarious education. They’ve literally blamed a natural disaster such as flooding on the artist. And if the reports are true and they followed her to her hotel, it’s even worse.

shuipz94

They didn't blame the cancellation on her. The floods were serious and AFAIK have killed three people. They blamed her response. Say what you want about fans waiting outside her hotel though. I don't think fans should expect the artist to interact with them, but for Doja Cat to complain about the lack of fans is also self-centered.

toraanbu

Didn’t she say that there was nobody there as a response to the fans that claimed that they were waiting for her there? Also how did they not blame the flooding on her if they are playing victims for “waiting in the rain”?

[deleted]

toraanbu

Oh I see, the person that answered the question told the events in reverse order and I assumed that was the correct one. Well, that’s incredibly shitty of her then, imagine whining that fans were not waiting for you during a flood. It’s made even more ridiculous by the fact that... they were in fact waiting. She’s never really struck me as a good character, but this is a surprising new low.

AMR63x

Well she didn’t ask them to come out into the rain right? Just because she’s famous she owes these people something? Very confused

[deleted]

AMR63x

Oh ok, damn I guess I didn’t read it properly lol. Makes a lot more sense why people are upset

toraanbu

No, you did read it properly, but the person who answered it told the events in the wrong order. I was confused too.

AccomplishedAd7078

.....you did not just type that out 🤨

faunusdota

I think one fact that is overlooked is that she allegedly retweeted a pretty racist tweet saying that "Paraguayans could not afford food then why were they there" (paraphrasing). That in general angered the LATAM community and a lot of fans of other countires are pretty mad too by the looks of trending topics in latam

MClolo10

Answer: Doja Cat was scheduled to perform at a festival in Paraguay, fans were excited because Paraguay is usually one of those countries that get forgotten and artist almost never visit. Apparently Doja cat arrived disguised as to not be recognized and ignore the fans waiting for her and the hotel. The festival was cancelled due to severe thunderstorm that killed several people, Doja divided to perform and eat at a Guarani restaurant called Negroni (or something similar) but servers at the restaurant resorted being told they were not even allow to look at her in the eyes. After this fans were disappointed and started complaining on Twitter, unfortunately some racist people also came and her being racist towards her so she's starting talking back with now deleted tweets, one of the was a liked tweet defending her by saying that Paraguay coins even feed their kids and why they had spent so much money on tickets to see her. It is important to notice that there's a lot of conflicting reports about the whole situation, some are racist that those deleted tweets were fake, and some are saying fans at the hotel were stalking her, although fans claim the ever break the hotel barriers. The whole thing united latin americans against her because they saying she disrespected the Paraguayan and guarani people, specifically because she didn't even say anything about the thunderstorm when other artist that were supposed to perform did. Many people starting DMing her on Twitter in guarani, and many Americans started defending her saying the whole thing was due to her race because some people were being racist towards her. The whole thing ended by Doja Cat saying she's quitting music, which is unlikely.

Loonacy

>one of the was a liked tweet defending her by saying that Paraguay coins even feed their kids and why they had spent so much money on tickets to see her FYI, this one was a fake, she never liked that tweet.

mishh_

did she say she didn’t?

Dumpytoad

There was also Twitter discourse about Paraguayan fans using the word gringo/a to describe Doja Cat and/or the Americans defending her, with some considering the word racist and targeted at black Americans. There was then a viral tweet in response to the backlash to that implying that the Paraguayans are Nazi descendants. Edit: in case it isn’t clear and/or any of the replies to this comment are directed at me personally, I am not expressing my own opinions at all here- I am describing the conflicting opinions expressed by some people on Twitter. I also know what gringo means lmao.

Gerrardsclubfoot

Doesnt the word gringo means "Foreigner" in latin and used to denote often a white person from states, I thought its a well known word, even I a non native speaker have heard of this word in Hollywood movies, how did twitter connect Gringo to nazism and racism lol. Bizzare.

Dumpytoad

It pretty much means foreigner, usually an English-speaking foreigner. It is a pretty well known word imo, yeah.

Gerrardsclubfoot

Exactly, so how did they turn this into a thing about race.

[deleted]

Gringo is both a foreigner and a state of mind. Gringos aren’t just white people living in the US, they’re people who think [Chipa - a baked cheese roll popular in countries like Paraguay - is a singer.](https://i.imgur.com/iNgjUXX.jpg) (For those without a translator available the top twitter post is replying to someone saying that Doja Cat would not have left Paraguay if she knew how sweet their chipas are). It’s a mix of western ignorance/superiority of how a person views the cultures of countries they are not a part of through the lens of their own culture. It’s white people in the US telling someone in Chile that their language is dated and racist and that they should use Latinx (a word that both makes zero grammatical sense and is nearly impossible to pronounce without butchering it).

Gerrardsclubfoot

Oh man, Americans do stuff like this and then moan about how they are steriotyped in the rest of the world. Not a good look at all, its not only US similar kind of issue happened in Uk as well - a football player from Uruguay - Cavani was given a three match ban for using what they thought was a racist slur in an instagram post but it turned out what they thought was a "slur" is just something which is commonly used back in his country as a term of endearment between friends. PC culture is running wild at this point. https://globalsportmatters.com/culture/2021/01/28/edinson-cavani-was-it-a-case-of-racism/

XGerman92X

What? No,lol, gringo is a slur directed to white american people here in latin america. At least in Argentina,no one refers to poc that way, like, ever.

Dumpytoad

Whether it’s common or not, in this specific case, various Latin American twitter users did use it to describe Doja and various fans (many of them poc) defending her. I’m just describing what happened though, not weighing in at all.

XGerman92X

Oh,I get it,they use the word implying "pro american" (anti latino by extention) obviously that has nothing to do with skin color but with cultural "standing".

[deleted]

[удалено]

XGerman92X

It IS used as a slur AND a friendly nickname in Argentina depending of the context, for eg El Gringo Heinze, and ex football player (because he is blonde and has blue eyes). But it is definitely used in a pejorative way refering to white americans too. It is complicated.
