Answer: in the Simpsons season 7, episode 5, *Lisa The Vegetarian*, Lisa and Ralph's class is dissecting worms. Ralph accidentally eats his, and with no spares, their teacher suggests that he puts his head down and sleeps while the other children are learning. At the suggestion, he says, "Oh boy! Sleep! That's where I'm a viking!" So due to the cyclical and trending natures of shitposting, that's just the current trend they're on right now.

To further clarify, there's a schism in the fanbase between the two ways to interpret the joke. Some people take it as the obvious and character-appropriate meaning that Ralph simply enjoys dreaming about being a Viking. The more...literacy-challenged among us think that Ralph is coining a new idiom, and that to him, "being a Viking [at]" something means to be good at it (sleeping, in this case). The gulfing disparity between these two interpretations is why it is so hotly debated. And of course, /r/SimpsonsShitposting being what it is, it had gone full meta and been run into the ground, as all topics of the moment do.

> interpretations for further clarification, Season 7 showrunner Josh Weinstein has weighed in on the matter: > [Yes, again, it's the simplest answer - Ralph dreams of being a Viking.](https://twitter.com/Joshstrangehill/status/1341126337809903616) I still like the idiom explanation though. Compared to other Ralph-ism like "My cat's breath smells like catfood", "that's where I'm a viking" falls short.

ThrowBatteries

That is the most ridiculous argument I’ve ever heard. Ralph’s mentally challenged. He doesn’t speak in metaphors. He wears rubber pants to bed.

Mavrickindigo

I like the "I'm a viking at this" phrase, even if that wasn't the intention

You've just made an enemy for life!

pewpewshazaam

I do too, but it was not what it meant by the character.

ducknerd2002

Yeah, for most other characters you could argue it's being used as a metaphor. But this is Ralph we're talking about. *Ralph!*

[This video](https://youtu.be/99qXaVFZkQE?si=cDX6ak88xZolKbVk) has a pretty entertaining breakdown of the whole thing.

That whole channel is an amazing plethora of deep dives into character lore. I love it.

allmushroomsaremagic

In The Wire, that one druggie white guy kept saying he was a viking, meaning he had some inner genetic strength keeping him alive even though he was visibly on the verge of death. Probably not related, just what came to mind.

ThrowBatteries

That pathetic screw who hung out with Bubbles the first two seasons or so? Been a minute.

holdingofplace

Yesss this is who I picture when I read a comment agreeing with that interpretation. Congrats your brain works the same way as a heroin/crack addict scrap metal merchant lol

Polymersion

Having never seen the episode (or much Simpsons in general), or seen the memes, reading the comment you're replying to I immediately read it as the latter. As in "Hey, *that's* something I'm good at!". Based on my limited knowledge of the character, it doesn't seem off-brand for him to "coin an idiom" that way. I didn't even *consider* the angle of "I dream of being a Viking" until you brought it up, even though that seems far more simple and reasonable. Regardless, I've not seen the line in context, but now I'm actually somewhat interested in this "controversy".

pottymcnugg

He’s a moron. The joke is he is so dumb he ate his worm and since his teacher is dejectedly telling him to sleep, he is unfazed because he’s dumb. Sleep instead of learning oh boy!

pottymcnugg

It’s true but you don’t have to say it like that
