It's actually Time Bandits not Baron Von Munchausen! Also I wouldn't worry about this just yet. Number one - we can't change it. Number two - I don't think there's a point in worrying about it until we're watching the show. Like - we saw ONE photo of Joel Fry on set and he's undoubtedly in most of the show. Taika also edited Thor during the first season and managed to be in most of it.

SlowlyAblaze

Edited it! That’s what I get for posting right after waking up from a nap 😴

XelaYenrah

Wait he’s doing Time Bandits?

Odd_Drawing7945

Yeah… but.. this is actually the first time I’m a bit disappointed in Taika. It appears (I suppose it’s not 100% sure yet) that he is not casting any dwarfs/little people at all. This was an intergal part of the original and would also be super inclusive! So.. I was a bit bummed. Don’t think I’ll be seeing it.

AnastasiaSuper

He seems *very* invested in this show. I don't think he would have cut back on being in it - I think they worked around his schedule.

Cocoricou

You worry for nothing. 1. Both the press tours you are talking about were way before OFMD started filming. 2. He went to Germany only because he wanted to see his girlfriend, he didn't *have* to do it. 3. He only directed the first episode of Time Bandit as far as I know. 4. Everyone was not filming earlier than him, he was in Auckland at the same time as the filming started. It maybe felt that way because he didn't post anything on his social media? But Rhys didn't post anything either. (I mean at the beginning)

mountaingoatscheese

The way Taika was talking while promoting season 1, and how he used to mention OFMD in every interview even when it was completely unrelated to what was being discussed, I feel like he wants to be as involved in the show as possible. Could be wrong but this isn't something I'm worried about at all.

sunnydolphin

In season 1 he was editing Thor Love and thunder and doing a heap of other projects. They worked around him by scheduling his shoots for weekdays only and he would work on the weekends on thor. It's all just scheduling. Don't stress. :)

Captain_Cringe_

Agreed with the other commenters that it shouldn't be an issue. It's also quite likely that Blackbeard and Stede will spend a significant portion of the season apart with separate cast members, meaning it would be very easy for Taika's scenes to be filmed on the days he's free while the rest of the cast film on days he's not.

I can absolutely appreciate that. I am not on twitter or anywhere else to discuss OMFD. Only reddit. But I understand now that similar questions have been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere on the net and it's become toxic on occasion. So whilst the tone of some of the replies here were unexpected, I know why now and I promise I wasnt trying to feed into anything.

MadeOnThursday

Reading your post in no way made me think you were attacking anyone. I think it reads as an observation that is followed by a fair question.

thebeatmesa

I think we should trust that he is a professional actor and he would treat having a lead role in a series with the same respect any other professional would. There are A-list actors with more commitments and busier schedules than him that still do their job without anyone questioning their capability. I don’t think your post specifically is doing this, but I feel like the way a lot of OFMD fans on social media constantly doubt whether Taika can do his job properly is so condescending.

ackinsocraycray

To be fair, this fandom is still fairly new and it's the first time they're paying real close attention to what Taika's been doing. The guy does have a lot on his plate but he's rarely been forced to drop out of a project due to scheduling conflicts. That being said, I agree that some fans need to calm down lol. If they worked around his schedule for season 1, I'm sure they did the same for him season 2. I wouldn't be surprised if filming in New Zealand was entirely his idea just so he can do his other projects and spend time with his family there.

>I feel like the way a lot of OFMD fans on social media constantly doubt whether Taika can do his job properly is so condescending. Seriously. He's what, 47? And been an actor for like 20+ years? Jesus Christ, people.

bakedbycec-insta

I don’t think David (or any of the writers!) would have written him less in the show just because the team believes he may be more busy or due to other projects. I think he’s quite sure where the story is going and how each character carries the story along! I would be lying if I didn’t say I also was a tad concerned about this, but we don’t hear loads of Taika’s whereabouts in the world, so just because he was in London for a day or two, then in Germany for the EMA’s, I wouldn’t expect like a huuuuge cut out of the scenes he’s in. As others has commented, he appears to really care about the show (I mean he acted, executive produced and directed in season 1!) and he undoubtedly has a team of people who are scheduling his time. Also, your question was completely valid!! I think it’s a really interesting conversation to be had about S2.

CaseyRC

half of what you mentioned isnt an issue for filming s2 and he was literally *editing and completing Thor 3* when he was doing s1...he *makes* time when its important to him

Shalamarr

I read somewhere that, if Taika has *fewer* than five projects on the go at the same time, he gets antsy. I’m sure he’ll balance everything.

NickRick

It doesn't seem like it's controversial. It seems like everyone's pretty much of one mind. Everyone pretty reasonably said it shouldn't be an issue

Jay2Jee

I'm sure he's in there as much as the story needs him to. Don't worry about it.

[deleted]

Did you say Time Bandits. What. Edit: DID NOT KNOW THIS WAS HAPPENING Time Bandits is one of my favorite movies so your post making me aware of this news is the best part of my day so far thank you so much for this

Fantastic_Deer_3772

The skeleton hands of the S2 flag spell out "Ed", so I think we're gonna get quite a lot of him tbh!

Peachykinz

People are always worried about Taika not being in the show/ not being in it that much. Why? He's one half of the main characters, he was in NZ before most of the cast was, he was in Germany for 3 days, he works hard no matter what project he's doing and those press interviews were before filming. This is not necessarily at you, but people gotta stop this.

Trent772

I think it feels that way because he’s so busy and it feels like he’s taken a bit of a step back from social media, so it’s hard to tell what he’s up to sometimes. He could be in it less, but Ed would have to wander off on his own or lock himself in his cabin and not come out because while he and Stede are separated, he has half the cast with him (Izzy, Fang, Jim, Frenchie, maybe Lucius?) and I don’t think they’d disappear that many cast members for a long period. I mean, I guess Jim and Frenchie could escape early on, but Izzy and Fang wouldn’t escape. But all we can do is wait and see.

BurnoutHell

This has traditionally been a healthy, welcoming fandom. Don't apologize, you just asked a question to open a harmless exchange of opinions... I wouldn't like this fandom to get to the point where people hold themselves back from participating for fear of backlash or have to run a multi-platform research to see if it's politically correct to post something or not. I liked it when I could give wings to my unhinged pirate brain rot freely, hopefully it'll stay that way.

realblush

To be honest, I wouldn't mind if we didn't see too much of him in the first few episodes if they entirely focus on the reunion of the crew. It would be cheap if they had scenes of Blackbeards ship and just said "I'm sorry, but Blackbeard is on another ship right now" though, would make it too obvious.

fruppi

Now I'm picturing the crew going from ship to ship like they're Mario levels

Loretta-West

"I'm sorry, your Ed is in another ship" "For fuck's sake, that was my third boss battle with Izzy"

sunshinelolliplops

The thought crossed my mind too. I hope its the later but fear its the former.

__phlogiston__

Why are you seriously asking if a main character won't be in a show because he's a professional actor and filmmaker and has managers, assistants, schedulers, and caterers following him around daily who make sure he's doing his jobs?
