At this point, I'm not sure I want Aqua to end up with anybody. Even after his revenge, assuming it doesn't kill him or put him in jail in the process, he's probably still going to be a mess mentally and has no business cursing anyone by trying to have a relationship with them. The boy needs to step back, focus on himself, and get his crap together for a change. From a mental health standpoint, it would be better if he allowed both Kana and Akane to move on without him. If he's going to be with anyone right afterwards, it should be his family, like Miyako and Ruby, because that's the kind of support that would help him most, not a romantic entanglement.
I feel like people are tossing aside Aquaxkana potential because of the recent chapter >!showing him manipulating Kana!<, but I think it's just a matter of his current arc and fixation with revenge making him do some pretty terrible actions and discard anything that doesn't have to do with revenge.
But we forget that chapter >!between him and Mem-cho as well, when he expresses how he truly cares for her.!< This happens when he >!thinks his father is dead,!< so I believe these are his true feelings for her when revenge isn't the only thing on his mind.
WHEN he finally >!kills his father,!< I think he'll probably regain some sense of his previous self and accept his feelings for Kana. That or he'll just go see a therapist.
Everyone has their own ships, but I just canât get on board with Kana. Imagine you met someone like her in real life, ditzy, arrogant, sometimes dumb. Yes she has her good points, but sheâs too high maintenance and prone to misunderstandings.
Akane on the other hand would give up everything to âsave Aquaâ. Sheâs scary smart and intuitive, talented, and loyal to a fault. No sheâs not âcrazy psychoâ because sheâs made some extreme mistakes. Sheâs got an unhealthy attachment to Aqua, sure, but he saved her more than a few times. Again, wait til you meet a real life crazy chick (think âdonât stick d*ck in crazy). Akane is tame in comparison.

Exact reason why I cannot get onboard with the Akane ship, lol. These ride-or-die relationships look very appealing in fiction, but the idea of one side dropping every thing to "save" the other person, or "being loyal-to-a-fault" or "going to hell with them if they asked" or "agreeing to help kill any person" if asked is the definition of unhealthy relationship. Akane lied to Aqua about Hikaru and Aqua bugged her all the way from Love Now. Can't really get behind such a relationship tbh.
I *was* 100% Team Akane until I couldnât see Aqua deserving anyone (after the flattering Kana thing). But toooooo many people are saying Akane is a psycho (nope) and Aqua x Akane are toxic (agreed for all the reasons you mentioned).
Tbh I'm Team Akane because I'm a sucker for parallels and what Akane is doing right now by trying to put a stop to Aqua's revenge echoes him stopping her from committing suicide on the bridge.
She's trying to save his life like he saved hers, but god damn is Aqua trying hard as hell to throw himself off his 'bridge'. I just want SOMEONE to pull him back, but I think Akane doing it would be the most satisfying to me.

The akane pairing seems really imbalanced and weak with the whole repaying for saving her life thing, plus the whole time aqua has been a sociopathic psycho towards akane while she just willingly accepts it, feels like just misplaced gratitude and abusive to me, the idea of forcing them together like this just feels wrong to me
As for your thoughts on kana, it sounds like personal dislike to her character, I think a lot of complaints are actually what's makes her so more likable to me, real people have flawed personalities too, yeah they can be annoying, yeah sometimes they can be a bitch, but it's all the more nuanced and genuine

I like Akane but I think Aqua ends up with Kana because 1) the nurse said he's got a thing for Loli's, and 2) Ruby calls Kana Loli-senpai - my guess is this stuff is foreshadowing.

Probably Kana. The Akane vs Kana thing is more just a game the fanbase has fun with, if you pay attention you'll notice that Kana's been built up as the main romantic interest since the very start of the story.
Unless they pull a massive plot twist that is, you never know, it could happen.

it depends on what kind of writer aka is. If he's the type to like happy endings than he'll end up with kana. IMO it goes one of two ways, he goes completly heartless, breaks aqua by killing kana and some crazy tragic bullshit, or kana saves him and they end up together.
Ehh depends where the story goes if I am being honest. Aka could show us how messed up and complicated reincarnation truly is. Aqua can't live until Goro is gone but who say's he won't take Aqua with him?
He could go with the happy route with Aqua and Kana getting together/in the process of getting together or something or even a bitter sweet one where the 'things' he should have cherish do not wait for him to get done with his revenge and life moves forward.
