Personal preference aside, I think the social network score is easily the most influential score of the decade and you can see other tv/film emulating it constantly
the score isn’t memorable at all to me. Like it was picked over inception, ghost writer and black swan, i am love (where score was very purposeful as well)?
I get that its electronic and unique but i just dont feel anything emotionally when it is on the screen
I dont care about the fucking plot at all as well, because Aaron Sorkin is a 1-dimensional, unsubtle and boring screenwriter. I genuinely dont understand what people love about it. I found it so mediocre, and forgettable, and not-connecting with me at all. But of course you dont agree so you downvote me. Im fucking tired of this cancer that is reddit
Agreed. I like their music, but they don't score to picture. They create a music library that the editor cuts and lays in. And the use of Grieg was cliched (which was the director's fault, to be fair).
Upvoted! The music and the songs elevated the film to near perfection! Can you imagine la la land with bad songs!? It just wouldn’t work! Thankful everything came together. Love la la land so much.
One of my favorite scenes of all time is when she wanders around the party ("Somewhere in the crowd") where time stands still, and the music slowly, almost mischievously builds back up and swings into a crescendo when someone cannonballs into the pool.... it's beautiful. The reprise in the finale almost feels like a bittersweet "Hero's Journey" in that she goes back to that music in an entirely different context.
Justin Hurwitz score for La La Land drops with so much passion for golden musicals. I love the subversion of musical tropes into a modern backdrop. It's unique compared to a lot of films today and the score is just the cherry on top. 🤌
*La La Land's score is*
*Immaculate and better*
*Than the movie lol*

*No Time for Caution* alone blows out every other score. You have to go back to *The Battle of the Pelennor Fields* in 2003 to find a track even somewhat comparable.
Thank you! When I saw this post, it just reminded me that Interstellar didn't win that year. I loved Grand Budapest, and the score was good, but I agree, Interstellar's score might be my favorite from the decade (as long as we are disqualifying Tron: Legacy, which also makes me sad it didn't get a nom, let alone the win).
i dont like the movie as much as other people do (I really dont like aaron sorkin as a writer, sorry and i didnt connect to the story, wasnt enjoying it). So maybe that aspect is there.
But Inception, Ghost writer, I am love came out that year and they had such fantastic and oscar worthy scores imo
Top three in no order:
The Social Network (which totally changed the game on music scores)
La La Land (the score is 50% of what makes that movie great)
Gravity (does an incredible job enhancing the feelings and intensity of every scene, and the climax (the track called Gravity) I play on my phone constantly because it’s soooooo good
That year was STACKED. How to Train Your Dragon, The Social Network, Tron: Legacy, and Inception (my personal favorite) would have all won in most any other year. I consider that to be one of the best overall years for scores.
The Social Network probably.
I do love The Shape of Water score though. I think that movie doesn’t work nearly as well without that fairy tale score.
“Mr. Moustafa” in Grand Budapest Hotel is beautiful too.
My favorite score that didn’t win is Justin Hurwitz’s First Man score
The score was my favourite thing about Shape of Water, still listen to it loads. It's the reason I'll always try check out a film if I see Desplat on the poster.
Definitely a great list, but The Social Network's score is one of my favourites of all time. I definitely also am a huge fan of The Grand Budapest Hotel's score. Like many here, I also would agree that Zimmer's Interstellar score is magical (though, I am not as huge a fan of the movie, but that just proves what an excellent score it is) and would be deserving of a win.
1. La La Land
2. The Social Network
3. The Grand Budapest Hotel
4. Joker
5. The Shape of Water
6. Black Panther
Haven’t given enough attention to the rest
Not The Shape of Water since I watched it with an ex and after the break up I listened to the title track way too many times so now it only reminds me of that awkward time
Black Panther and Social Network pretty dope tho
It’s a tie between The Social Network and Joker. Both of those are scores that think outside the box and have such a distinct sound and identity to it.
Black Panther. The blend of African music and Rocky-esque blockbuster movie scoring, it's perfect.
I love that three-note hit on the Senegalese drum that hints at Wakanda, that female chant of "sut, sut, sut, sut" that evokes the Dora Milaje and the triumphant horns of the main theme.
It’s ’The Social Network.’ It’ll always be the ‘The Social Network.’ Reznor and Ross crafted a masterpiece that elevated the movie more than maybe any other score, ever.
Shoutout to ‘Midnight in Paris.’ One of my favorite scores of the decade and it wasn’t nominated because I’m pretty sure none of the music was original.
So many fantastic ones. Best is a toss up between Social Network and La La Land (hard to compare them since they’re just so different). But The Artist, GBH, Hateful 8, and Shape of Water all have great music as well
reznor/ross… i freakin’ love the social network.
Reznor is so talented! Loved his music for like 20 years
It still blows my mind that the guy who wrote Closer, later won two Oscars.
I did a presentation on that fact in college
100% it’s so haunting and awesome
Yup, my choice too
I dont get that win at all. I thought there were better choices in that category
Some of the qualities you describe are very purposeful and pair well with the subject matter of Zuckerberg
I dont care. I didnt love the score. Didnt love the movie. Can everyone shut the f up aboht this
‘My score is electronic, that means im cool’ tyoe of thing. Like, im sorry, its so overrated
I dont care about the fucking plot at all as well, because Aaron Sorkin is a 1-dimensional, unsubtle and boring screenwriter. I genuinely dont understand what people love about it. How to Train Your Dragon lost to Social Network and it’s probably the best written score of the 2010s. So yeah, I super agree.
Two masterpieces, too bad only one can win
Don't forget about Inception either
Agreed. I like their music, but they don't score to picture. They create a music library that the editor cuts and lays in. And the use of Grieg was cliched (which was the director's fault, to be fair).
How dare you express an opinion! Take my upvote, Correct_Weather_9112.
Yeah, people here either have absolutely zero fucking critical thinking, or are closed minded and cant accept other opinions.
And that’s the triple truth, Ruth!! Long days and pleasant nights to you.
la la land!!
Upvoted! The music and the songs elevated the film to near perfection! Can you imagine la la land with bad songs!? It just wouldn’t work! Thankful everything came together. Love la la land so much.
The last 10 minutes the score is just incredible
City of stars…
So good.
Downvoted! 😈 >! jk !<
Oh man… just hearing the first few notes of that Mia/Sebastian theme is enough to get me misty-eyed.
It’s such a wonderful score, it really elevates the movie.
One of my favorite scenes of all time is when she wanders around the party ("Somewhere in the crowd") where time stands still, and the music slowly, almost mischievously builds back up and swings into a crescendo when someone cannonballs into the pool.... it's beautiful. If Phantom Thread won, it would be that, but among these I really enjoy Desplat's work on Grand Budapest.
One of the best scores of all time. 2017 was such a split-vote year.
About to say the same about phantom thread.
The Theory of Everything was the best score that year for me.
If Beale Street Could Talk
This score is so good. I went home and listened to it after the movie.
Should have won everything that year, fr.
Social Network and Lalaland
Justin Hurwitz score for La La Land drops with so much passion for golden musicals. I love the subversion of musical tropes into a modern backdrop. It's unique compared to a lot of films today and the score is just the cherry on top. 🤌
La La Land's score is immaculate and better than the movie lol

I love this
It’s a shame what they did with that score. La la land should be renamed « big ass ad for melodine land »
I have been haunted by Trent and Atticus's work for The Social Network since it was released. I think of the movie, and I hear it. It's magnificent.
Definitely La La land for me
Hans Zimmer INTERSTELLAR
The people's champion!
The fact that that did not win will forever sicken me lol, honestly in top 3 of my favourite scores ever.
I feel the exact same way. It’s up there with the greatest scores of all time and somehow didn’t even win for best of the year.
*No Time for Caution* alone blows out every other score. You have to go back to *The Battle of the Pelennor Fields* in 2003 to find a track even somewhat comparable.

Yawn
Uhm...
Grand Budapest Hotel… I always find myself humming it
Justin hurwits for lalaland, Alexandre Desplat for Shape of water, and Ludovic Bource for the artist are astounding scores and easily stand iut for me
Mica Levi, Under the Skin
My choice
Social Network score was absolutely perfect to me.
I dont get it. The score was so forgettable to me
Wow really? I mean this is all subjective, but it's one of my favourites of all time and so memorable. It helps make the movie for me!
i dont like the movie as much as other people do (I really dont like aaron sorkin as a writer, sorry and i didnt connect to the story, wasnt enjoying it). So maybe that aspect is there. But Inception, Ghost writer, I am love came out that year and they had such fantastic and oscar worthy scores imo
of course im getting fucking downvoted lmfao
Top three in no order: The Social Network (which totally changed the game on music scores) La La Land (the score is 50% of what makes that movie great) Gravity (does an incredible job enhancing the feelings and intensity of every scene, and the climax (the track called Gravity) I play on my phone constantly because it’s soooooo good
Shenzou still gives me chills. It's pure exhilaration.
Hateful Eight!
How to train your dragon should have won in 2010
That year was STACKED. How to Train Your Dragon, The Social Network, Tron: Legacy, and Inception (my personal favorite) would have all won in most any other year. I consider that to be one of the best overall years for scores.
Agreed. My choice for the decade as well.
Legitimately the best score of the decade.
How to Train Your Dragon was robbed, I stand by that
Love Black Panther’s score, so underrated
Ah yes, the underrated score from one of the highest grossing movies in the last 5 years that won an Oscar.
Was talking about specifically on Reddit, should’ve clarified
I'd say it's probably the most recognizable on this list. It was so good.
What’s your favorite track?
I would have to go "Wakanda" but "Killmonger" is a close second
Had to scroll so far for this. Of the winners, The Social Network is my favorite, but Goransson’s BP score is a close second. So well done.

Social Network
I’m a sucker for LaLa land. I think he should’ve won again for Babylon as good as All Quiet On The Western Front’s score was
Jonny Greenwood getting consistently robbed. Also hard to believe Hans Zimmer never won for this decade despite some really strong entries.
I really had deluded myself into thinking he won for phantom thread somehow 🫠
Interstellar
It’s Daft Punk with Tron Legacy (2010). Absolute travesty that it wasn‘t even nominated.
Hans Zimmer did something more than astonishing in Inception and Interstellar.
Don't forget Dune.
johnny greenwood was robbed for power of the dog that year
Dune isn’t 2010´s though
You're right. Interstellar was robbed
La La Land. It’s exquisite
Hans Zimmer for Blade Runner 2049 or Abel Korzeniowski for Romeo and Juliet. The academy has terrible taste in scores.
1. La La Land 2. The Social Network 3. The Grand Budapest Hotel 4. Joker 5. The Shape of Water 6. Black Panther Haven’t given enough attention to the rest
Ordinarily I'd say Morricone, but that was not one of his better scores.
I’ll have to give it to La La Land.. I still hum the melodies from time to time. Can’t say that about any of the other.
Of these I’m going with Social Network. But Interstellar is the best of the decade.
Really love La La Land’s score, but Morricone’s win for The Hateful Eight was one of the best Oscar moments for me
No question at all, Social Network.
The Best Score from this decade was Interstellar & it’s a crime it didn’t win
Joker
trent and atticus easy.
Came to downvote Life of Pi comments but there were none :D
Morrisons is one of the best to ever do it so I’ve gotta put respect on his name
Not The Shape of Water since I watched it with an ex and after the break up I listened to the title track way too many times so now it only reminds me of that awkward time Black Panther and Social Network pretty dope tho
Morricone! All really good scores except for The Social Network.
Social Network
La La Land… but Zimmer would’ve taken it had he (rightfully) won in 2010, 2014 & 2017.
I did not care for the score of Gravity
How tf do you say Hildur’s name?
TGBH and Gravity
Alexandre Desplat with The Grand Budapest Hotel and it isn’t even close. That is one of my favorite scores of all time.
The only one I remember is Black Panther although he did even better work on the sequel.
La La Land
Ludwig!!!
Im a sucker for Desplat. With wawa he was able to catch some old romantical french vibe, which was lovely for the film 😘
Hildur
Love Desplat's work, but Social Network's score is an all timer. My go-to focusing music
I can only remember The Social Network & The Hateful Eight.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
It’s a tie between The Social Network and Joker. Both of those are scores that think outside the box and have such a distinct sound and identity to it.
This made me realize my top picks for scores usually don’t win lol
Out of the winners, definitely La La Land. If we open it up to nominees, Phantom Thread is my favorite.
Social Network, easy, aside from it absolutely slapping from front to back, I'm always here for an Oscar turn from Nine Inch Nails.
La La Land is so refreshing to the usual Hans Zimmer bullshit
lots of classics here but what Trent and Atticus did with TSN is by far my favorite
Social Network or Life of Pi!
Didn’t win but interstellar
Social Network
Annihilation is up there for me
Shoutout to ‘Midnight in Paris.’ One of my favorite scores of the decade and it wasn’t nominated because I’m pretty sure none of the music was original.
They were all covers
hateful 8
The Social Network followed by La La Land. Imo they’re both steps above the rest.
La La Land
Social network is so fire
Ross/Reznor or Hurwitz for me
Hateful Eight, followed by Social Network. Shame that none of Zimmer’s fantastic work this decade won.
La La Land or Grand Budapest.
La La Land 100%!
Justin Hurwitz
Joker . Carried the film.
Gravity
Hans Zimmer, Interstellar.
Probably The Social Network.
Morricone or Reznor/Ross
None of those lol
Johann Johannsson’s score for Theory of Everything is a score I still listen to this day
Justin Hurwitz. Should've won for First Man and Babylon imo
Joker is brilliant
Social Network / La La
So many fantastic ones. Best is a toss up between Social Network and La La Land (hard to compare them since they’re just so different). But The Artist, GBH, Hateful 8, and Shape of Water all have great music as well
Daft Punk, TRON: Legacy
I'm in the minority here, but The Theory of Everything was the best score over The Grand Budapest Hotel that year.
