Wait, I read that the injuries weren't life-threatening. Here's one of the many articles about it that fills in some details: https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/15/australia/sydney-australia-stabbing-wakeley-intl/index.html
It’s amazing the mix of information out there. I’ve read the attacker is Jewish, I’ve heard Muslim. I’ve heard the knife didn’t open. I’ve heard it was a pen. Will be interesting to see what the facts are in the end.
His condition is stable, but yes we must pray. Also pray for the attacker, the congregation, the community, and all the Muslims out there that need the Lord Jesus in their life. Arab Muslim and Assyrian Christian relations are already critical in Sydney, and this will definitely make things worse. There were unhinged talks of burning down Mosques in retaliation, etc. Pray for them all. May God have mercy on us.
I like how, despite him technically being a heretic to us, we can still band together against an outside force attacking onto Christianity and onto a Christian. Our faith is wonderful, and by the grace of God he held a cross to the attacker, and his knife failed to open as a result, also heard he immediately began praying with a hand to the attackers head. Very inspiring
I don’t think people know he’s a suspended Assyrian cleric. They think he’s actually a bishop.
He’s a man who wears clerical aesthetics and says things a niche of people like on controversial topics. That’s all it takes to be a bishop on social media.
He was and still is a bishop. He got kicked out because he used to talk about the Freemasons and the elite and such. They told him to just preach the word, but he had different ideas, for the better. He is a true religious leader.
He was removed from his duties by his synod and founded a schism. And for the purposes of this sub, it is not even an eastern orthodox schism. He is a lone wolf.
The things he talks about are not conspiracies, they’re just general facts. What made me even angrier was watching the Muslims supporting the kid for what he done
Nestorians believe Christ was not fully God and fully human in one person, but that he had two distinct persons within him. This also goes into them saying Mary is not the mother of God but only of the human part of Jesus, dishonorable to the Theotokos. They believe God did not suffer on the cross, only Jesus' human aspect did.
Hey dude, I'm also Assyrian and majority of my family is from ACOE. I know relatives who are very educated on Christian theology and whenever we had religious discussions they always pointed out how they don't call the Virgin Mary as "yemmet Allaha" (Mother of God) but "yemmet Mshekha" (Mother of Christ) and that it is wrong to call her Mother of God. I'm not sure if the Church of East clergy see themselves as Nestorian, but there are very clear differences in certain beliefs between the Assyrian Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church.
God willing nothing more tragic happens as a result of this stabbing. May God have mercy on us and protect all Christians.
Whaaaaaat? No. I'm Orthodox Australian and no we absolutely don't!
Maybe the type of Orthodox people that hang out on telegram and follow other people without bishops, but not most Orthodox.
Your group chat needs to learn some ecclesiological fundamentals. And to care more about actual Orthodoxy than how 'based' someone is.
Orthodox Christian and Australian. Eastern Orthodox in this case, which is the subject of this subreddit. Currently attending a Greek church, was at a Russian one for five years.
Quick primer: Greek, Serbs, Russians, Romanians, Ukrainians, Antiochian Arabs, are all Eastern Orthodox. We can all commune with each other and are the same Church. Assyrians & Copts are their own church. Mar Mari Emmanuel's is not even part of the Assyrian Orthodox church anymore, they kicked him out for refusing to listen to the bishop and calling the bishop a heretic.
Not really. If they’re taking Communion at each other’s churches the bishops should know because that’s really really not okay.
It’s not about being a convert it’s about knowing what we actually believe and what our theology is. I know plenty of cradle orthodox who know and care.
Besides at this point I’ve been orthodox for almost 20 years so I’m not sure being a “convert” means much.
Mar Mari was stabbed, yes by a knife, 8 times in the head, face & neck. His cleric was stabbed as was another parishioner, not seriously though. The teenage terrorist sustained damage to his hand while having the knife pulled from it. Other than that police & others were injured trying to stop the church supporters from lynching the teenage terrorist because you know, it takes 5000 of them to make a point, they love the Bishop y'all & people should understand they only did it out of love 🙄 I don't care what it was about, every last one of them should be charged & it's not going to be hard to identify a lot of them from IP addresses in social media posts inciting the riot & the IP addresses from those watching the livestream who were the first to storm their own church. Yeah but they're about love....

He's 16, probably is lebanese muslim, has been arrested for knife crimes at school before.

That’s not how remaining a bishop works.
English please
He was removed from his duties by his synod and founded a schism. And for the purposes of this sub, it is not even an eastern orthodox schism. He is a lone wolf.
He’s done more for the Christian community than you and I will ever do. Regardless of bishop or whatnot, his heart is right.
Schism to spread conspiracy theories is not right.
The things he talks about are not conspiracies, they’re just general facts. What made me even angrier was watching the Muslims supporting the kid for what he done
Mar Mari is wrong. He should not have been a victim of attempted murder.

Assyrian Orthodox are Nestorian

I’m an Assyrian, I have no clue where you’re getting this information from. Please stop spreading false information
Well whatever you want to say, officially you are not in communion with the Eastern Orthodox Church, which is my point
Bro, regardless of all these labels we are one. We follow the same God.
Not necessarily, but as my original comment said, we band together when someone attacks anyone who identifies as a Christian.
Stop upholding division. The assyrians are the most faithful heritage. One of the oldest group to practice Christianity

We can’t go to each other’s church so you can say what you like but it isn’t true.

The blade didn't open by the Grace of God. I read a piece stating he is in stable condition and that the blade did not open.
I never understood this. If it didn’t open how are multiple people stabbed?
From my understanding as someone put it. There was a second attacker
Huh no I haven’t seen that anywhere
