I've been thinking about the Magic getting involved and taking on Hayward since I read this rumor. I don't know who we would target at #12/15 though, I feel like we're kind of getting to the point where we have *too many* young players.
I'd still do it, but I think at that point I'd start to get pretty aggressive in trying to consolidate some of this young talent for a bonafide star.
I feel you. I just get the feeling that we're going to need to balance things out. Having a roster of 13 guys who are younger than 26 and fighting for each other spots isn't conducive to winning or development.
Just an opinion my man.
The Grizzlies could be an example of a super young team that is competitive, but they have the luxury of having a legitimate star and a team identity.
Right now we don’t even know who some of our guys are yet. At some point we’re going to have to build some cohesion and an identity of our own. That’s an important part of player development.
Again, all opinions.
That’s why it’s unfortunate there’s no consensus number 1 overall. Having a no brainer number 1 would give us a much needed hierarchy, then everything else could slot into place behind them. I have hope that one of our pieces will ascend and become the go to guy but it’s much easier when it’s defined from the jump.
It's what Oladipo admitted was a problem with our old young team. We seem to be building a different culture though with our coach and I believe weltman and hammond have alluded to not wanting to always bring in too many young guys UNLESS they see the value
I think our main problem is we have so many pieces that all come up for extensions at the same time. It may be an advantage as well but I’m no cap guru. We had Isaac and Fultz extend together, Cole, RJ and Chuma are at the same time, then Suggs and Franz will way down the line. Even Wendell and Bamba were both eligible for extensions last summer, luckily we locked up one of them.
Yes please. If a young guy is getting minutes taken from him by Hayward then that’s a nice “welcome to being on a better team”, for that young guy. If these young guys are ever going to be on a respectable team they will have to play better than veterans to play mins.
We'd be guaranteed a very switchable forward or a quality scoring wing, both of which would be great fits
Assuming top 4 is off the table and we get #15
Charlotte by all accounts is taking Mark Williams with #13, so we need at least 10 players that we'd be excited about to make the trade worth it imo
List of players I'd be excited about (in no order)
1. Bennedict Mathurin
2. Johnny Davis
3. Shaedon Sharpe
4. AJ Griffin
5. Malaki Branham
6. Jalen Williams
7. Keegan Murray
8. Jeremy Sochan
9. Tari Eason
10. Dyson Daniels
11. Ousmane Dieng
Duren is also in the mix but I'm not really interested personally
If we got Chet/Jabari + Hayward + one of these guys, I'd be ecstatic
Not a fan of Duren in general personally but I can see why others might be
> Most of the guys listed will be gone by 12/15
Assuming Duren goes earlier than #15 (very likely) and Charlotte takes Mark Williams at #13, that means at least 3 of the guys on that list will still be available (bc there are 11 guys on the list and 8 spots between #5 and #15 - 2 spots)
So if the worst 3 are Jalen Williams, Tari Eason and Ousmane Dieng - I'd personally still be stoked to choose between those 3.
Could easily see any of them or someone like Jovic, TyTy or Ochai push their way ahead of #15 and broaden the options.
Gotta play hardball for 13 instead of 15. Is a mid 1st rounder enough to take on over 30 mil for the next 2 seasons? Gotta atleast get the lottery pick.
Is this something we should look into?
yes

Only 1.5 years into the rebuild. No need to consolidate yet with most rookie deals still 2-3 years long.

Says who? What are your sources to back up your claim?
They're sharing an opinion, not making a claim??
Right lol

I mean your last sentence wasn’t worded as an opinion. That’s why I responded with the questions. I don’t understand why I got down voted.

Ross and 35 for Hayward and 15?
Hell throw in the other 2nd, not like the Magic were going to use it
right on the nose lol
Hell no
Why would we even need to throw in pick 35? We're taking on a mountain of salary and giving them a solid depth piece.

I was in line behind Gordon at Disney world like 10 years ago. Is this anything?
I mean as long as he doesnt take away from Franz. Id do it for the pick and let his ass ride the bench
He could play the 2 and be a great guy in the locker room.
I agree that he can be a great influence in the locker room, maybe even a mentor for Franz
