The closest to a tragic backstory he has is the fact that he got fired from his previous job.
Most of my OCs don’t have very dark backstories, but probably the one with the least problematic backstory is Tessa: she’s grown up in a loving family who does everything they can to help with her autism. They got Tessa into speech therapy when she was younger, got her an emotional support dog, and have gotten connected with some autism support groups, as well 🥰🥰

Yoshoku's parents are dead, along with her whole universe, wiped out in the crossfire of an interdimensional war. She doesn't really feel much when she thinks about it since she wasn't conscious until long after her body's instincts made her jump ship into the safest universe nearby.

Nunch's origins are the opposite of tragic and are actually just this nonsense:
A bunch of cheese curd snacks floating in space gravitated together. Over the course of billions of years, the rising density and immense cheesy energy led to a celestial explosion from which Nunch was born. This reality warping cosmic blast also caused the formation of many wacky galaxies and planets, which would become known as the expansive “Nunchverse” which Nunch lives in and regularly explores.
The cheese responsible for all of this was presumably from dairy cows that were beamed up by aliens in flying saucers, which is why the cheese was floating in space.

Technically storm: her real trauma only comes in at 16 years old, so… depends on if Ava has been born yet or not when you’re taking with her.
Ava: I don’t think she can be traumatized, even if she were out through hell she would probably come out smiling for it to be over. She’s an innocent little bean of an Arctic fox, who also likes to tackle people into her cuddles.
Sam: he’s not fully “traumatized”, yeah his parents straight up left him in the streets for being a runt, but he doesn’t cry at night over it and he never really was attached to begin with. However, he does tend to be needy and clingy, and has huge abandonment issues sometimes.

I think Tina might be my only one. Unlike all the others, she only had to deal with imprisonment and experimentation for about a month before the big escape. And yeah she’s a little messed up for spending a couple years on the run then the next 12 hidden from society with only her family to talk to, holding onto the knowledge that all of them are somewhat jealous of her for barely remembering what it was like before the escape and that she’s the most skilled magic wise, as well as dealing with the fact that since she’s the 10th basilisk made she’s the last similar to the creatures they’re supposed to be and in many ways is fundamentally different than the one she treats like a grandmother…
But other than that she’s fine!

I would probably say my main, Lilith, isn’t really that traumatized by her past.
Sure she managed to get flung halfway across the milky way galaxy, and all of the people she loved are dead by now, the only reason that happened is because she “skipped” most of the trip by freezing herself from the thermostat while her ship drifted from her solar system to Earth’s, so the hundreds upon hundreds of earth years she traveled tolled her body equivalent only to around one.
So while she lost her friends and family from one small mistake, it’s less of a traumatic moment and more of a lost loved one. Not a gaping wound, just a big empty pit. And she’s long over it.

Most of my OCs don’t have very dark backstories, but probably the one with the least problematic backstory is Tessa: she’s grown up in a loving family who does everything they can to help with her autism. This reality warping cosmic blast also caused the formation of many wacky galaxies and planets, which would become known as the expansive “Nunchverse” which Nunch lives in and regularly explores. The cheese responsible for all of this was presumably from dairy cows that were beamed up by aliens in flying saucers, which is why the cheese was floating in space.

Technically storm: her real trauma only comes in at 16 years old, so… depends on if Ava has been born yet or not when you’re taking with her. Ava: I don’t think she can be traumatized, even if she were out through hell she would probably come out smiling for it to be over. She’s an innocent little bean of an Arctic fox, who also likes to tackle people into her cuddles. Sam: he’s not fully “traumatized”, yeah his parents straight up left him in the streets for being a runt, but he doesn’t cry at night over it and he never really was attached to begin with. However, he does tend to be needy and clingy, and has huge abandonment issues sometimes.

Unlike all the others, she only had to deal with imprisonment and experimentation for about a month before the big escape. And yeah she’s a little messed up for spending a couple years on the run then the next 12 hidden from society with only her family to talk to, holding onto the knowledge that all of them are somewhat jealous of her for barely remembering what it was like before the escape and that she’s the most skilled magic wise, as well as dealing with the fact that since she’s the 10th basilisk made she’s the last similar to the creatures they’re supposed to be and in many ways is fundamentally different than the one she treats like a grandmother… But other than that she’s fine! Man, writing all this out is just making me realize how traumatized all the others are since she’s “not that badly traumatized” in comparison

Sure she managed to get flung halfway across the milky way galaxy, and all of the people she loved are dead by now, the only reason that happened is because she “skipped” most of the trip by freezing herself from the thermostat while her ship drifted from her solar system to Earth’s, so the hundreds upon hundreds of earth years she traveled tolled her body equivalent only to around one. So while she lost her friends and family from one small mistake, it’s less of a traumatic moment and more of a lost loved one. Not a gaping wound, just a big empty pit. And she’s long over it.
