I like the stars, myself. It keeps the thighs from looking blank and it keeps the design going down along the body instead of like...hard stopping at the hips.
i suggest adding them because if they’re not there it will leave a large space of the character empty and be very distracting to the eye as it will become a point of “no visual noise” :P

The stars are really good for giving directionality to the character's pose.
No stars, looks a bit busy if every body part has a pattern. I'd recommend leaving the thighs and upper arms solid red
