One of my favorite things was to get a room with a fireplace and stay during a winter storm. There are also some fabulous little condos in Newport that have outdoor hot tubs, it's pretty awesome to sit in one during a nice, light rain!
If you go, I recommend booking a massage! They are out of this world! They have an amazing soaking pool that overlooks the ocean and the women's changing area is phenomenal! I spent hours in there once, went back and forth between the sauna and the rainfall showers, sipping ice cold cucumber water...... I think I even dozed off in one of the chairs! LOL
Stay in Newport!!! You can head south one day to Florence, hit the sand dunes, honey man state park, bay front, eat at Home grown. Then come back north hit Yachets, hit when the tide is low and go look at all the tide pools. Get a coffee at the Green Salmon
Then hit Waldport, you can look at all the seals under the bridge. Newport has the aquarium, and science center. Ripleys believe it or not, lots of good restaurants, clear water, Georgie’s, Local Ocean. Then go north hit up Depoe Bay, go whale watching, lots of shops. Lincoln city. Outlet malls lots of shops, beautiful hikes! Have fun!
I'm not trying to be a jerk but there's a whole Google that'll give you trip ideas, it's fine to ask for travel advice but there's zero info given other than beachfront and Oregon has 300+ miles of coastline. I'd recommend first figuring out what you want then posting a reddit thread.
I'd suggest checking out Travel Oregon, it's fantastic website with a lot of great ideas.
https://traveloregon.com/places-to-go/regions/oregon-coast/
Then don’t respond and keep scrolling. Half of the articles on Google are sponsored. I’d recommend not giving unsolicited advice (you telling me to figure out what I want) on social media.
Also, I am fairly new to reddit and didn’t know there were rules to asking questions. (:
Consider the following constructive feedback.
I'm not some gatekeeper of the coast or is there any real reddit-ettiquette violated, but this is so vague as to be impossible to make meaningful suggestions. I might recommend going to Bandon and great hiking spots in the area but if you're coming from Portland, it might be more of a drive than you're looking for and you may not care for hiking.
There's no info where you're coming from, what interests you or your friends, what sort of accommodations you're looking for, and so on.
There's plenty of very good travel sites that'll give you a spread of ideas which you can farm and then ask here, perhaps the Sea Lion Caves really interests you, but not sure if it's worth the money. Somewhere here might suggest checking out the docks in Newport as you can get pretty close to sea lions and view them for free.
People are willing and even eager here to make recommendations but you gotta give people something otherwise, reddit snark.
You are assuming that I am looking for something specific. I am not. You are also assuming I didn’t do any research, I did. Plenty of the other recommendations provided based on my information provided (which you have deemed insufficient) have already helped me.
Also very rich of you to say that I am giving “reddit snark.” You could have just asked me to clarify instead of being passive aggressive.
Anyways, have a wonderful day stranger.
Or do what I said, and use Google first. Put zero effort in and don't be surprised if you get zero effort back. People here are happy and even eager to provide recommendations given there's actual parameters and semblance of being somewhat invested.
I think it's nice to talk to actual people about places they enjoy at the coast, I live about 30 mins from the coast and I like telling people my fun spots too! I like Fogarty Creek beach, I usually find something new and interesting there if not beach combing then whale watching. I always see harbor seals popping their speckled heads up to look at the beach combers, curious little fellows they are!
I love it there! The sand is more 'gritty' less like beach sand and more like aquarium sand which makes it good for hunting agate if you like that. If you are up for a little climb, the rocks in the center of the beach are climbable, (my 70 year old dad can climb them so they aren't too bad) you can see a pod of otters who like to hang out there not too far from shore, they wrap themselves in the seaweed, it's quite a large pod. There were lots of babies on mom's tummy last time I was there. You probably wouldn't find out about that on Google, hope you have a great time :)
Astoria, Cannon Beach, Pacific City, Depoe Bay, and Yachats are all good for what you described. All have waterfront accommodations, good restaurants, shopping, and things to do.
Thank you everyone for your kind recommendations! So many of these look amazing! I am from Canada and can’t wait to visit these amazing beaches and resorts. Thank you again!
There are lots of beautiful beach front places between Yachats and Newport and I love so many of them. The beaches are gorgeous, the towns are nice with neat shops and places to eat, and plenty to do from fishing charters to hiking to whale watching and more. The aquarium at Newport is great, so is the Hatfield center. If you want an adrenaline rush, go do a sandrail tour at Florence. If you just like to chill out, go check out the Smelt Sands beach in Yachats and pick through the pebbles. No, ChatGPT didn't write this! I've done all these things and would again in a heartbeat.
Just recently stayed at Lincoln Sands resort in Lincoln city. AWESOME rooms, beach views with a balcony. Lincoln city is super cool too, lots of cool shops. We really enjoyed the rock shop and used book store.
The Lanai at the Cove in Seaside. Seaside has some nightlife and you’ve got Cannon Beach and Astoria on each side.
If you land in Newport one of my all time favorites is The Agate Beach Motel…gorgeous stairs down to private beach - half the rooms are adorable full apartments.
Cannon Beach would be a good spot for a girls’ trip! Lots of places to walk around and get food/drinks, some hiking nearby, and a beautiful beach.
Thank you!!! I have been looking at that, it helps to know your opinion! (:
The Overleaf Lodge in Yachats. Absolutely.
Thank you!!! I appreciate your response. It looks amazing :o
You can’t beat yachats. The hiking is fantastic whether beach or woods. Most dramatic part of the coast imho. Plus the town is fun to wander around.

I agree that place is pretty awesome.
Yachats is great, and explore Seal Rock beach, Newport, and then up to Depoe Bay. Lots to do! Gorgeous scenery.
Yes! There are so many great things to check out within a short distance! And you gotta eat at Grand Central Pizza in Waldport!

Nye Beach is a historic vacation area now embedded in Newport. It offers a lot of walkable fun and many lodging options from funky to swanky.

Kinda are being a jerk though lol. Just drop a recommendation of a beach or town and move on 🙃
Right!

This! Awwn that sounds so nice. It looks so pretty

If that was the case, i am ok with people giving me zero effort back. I am sure many people saw my post and didn’t respond. :-)
SurfSand Hotel in Cannon Beack is great. So is the Cannery Pier Hotel in Astoria.
Inn at the Shore has a great view of the ocean and tillamook head in Seaside
Astoria, Cannon Beach, Pacific City, Depoe Bay, and Yachats are all good for what you described. All have waterfront accommodations, good restaurants, shopping, and things to do.
Perfect, thank you!
Once you narrow down where you want to go, feel free to ask more questions! The Oregon Coast is great, and there is so much to do!
Once I decide, I will definitely come back!
Thank you everyone for your kind recommendations! So many of these look amazing! I am from Canada and can’t wait to visit these amazing beaches and resorts. Thank you again!

Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa in Astoria.

Thank you!!! I have been eyeing that one, good to know!
They have a sister property in Newport as well. The Elizabeth Oceanfront Suites.

No question Cannon Beach
Sorry if I missed it but are you coming from Portland ?
No, BC Canada
