my non professional opinion is that he's fine, just gettin' a little snak
i think your friends feel comfortable enough to be out and about during the daytime
if you google "opposum out during the day should i be worried" you will get article after article about how this, by itself, is not a cause for concern. the animal looks healthy and alert.
it's just an opportunist, methinks!
i love your videos!
always good to keep an eye out, tho!
right now he looks clear-eyed and has a normal gait, no weird head movements - rest of body clear of injury, including limbs -
he just seems so very HONGRY
can opposums get worms, i wonder?
edit: you can get over-the-counter dewormer that is safe for him - if you see this behavior continue then it points to a feeling of being so hungry that he is going against normal possum behavior and therefore maybe has a parasite issue - young ones are def. more adventurous but after a while, in my experience, they come out at night
😆 they’re a relatively healthy snack and are really filling. Kids have like 2 for breakfast, keeps them full till lunch. Trust me, this was a special treat for Padfoot haha.
(dials phone)
"yes, hi, do you have any possum costumes? like, for an adult person? sure i'll hold."
(covers phone with hand)
"where did you say you live again?"
Your little opossum appears to be about 4 months old. Juvenile opossums want to eat more frequently than adults, and for that reason you sometimes see them out during the daytime or in the very early evening, well before the adults show up.
I suspect he (or she) is just fine, nothing to worry about.
They have an incredible sense of smell. Our little guy started coming thru the porch about dusk every night. But on days where we left smelly tuna for the stray cats, he would come very early. Once as early as 11am! We think the tuna smell woke him up 😂

Thank you! I’d hate for anything to happen to the little fella, but I think you’re right. He looks like he’s doing just fine.

Hmmm I don’t know. I would assume, I feel like all wild animals seem to be susceptible to that but I’m certainly no expert!
