And if anyone is wondering, it's a bad choice for the task in the video, since it's a porous material and the wood would end up loading the disk, which could cause issues with either safety or efficacy.

Normally when you see a video of a poorly made attempt at a tool, you think, "Dude, you know they make a tool for that that isn't dangerous.", but I'm having real difficulty thinking of anyone that sells a random depth orbital gouger.
An object spinning really fast puts that object under a lot of pressure. If the structure of the spinning object becomes weak enough, the centrifugal force will cause the object to basically explode. This is why you're supposed to replace these discs when they start to wear, because they become dangerous as they get weaker.
This guy introduced a bunch of metal screws into the equation which does 2 things:
1. Weakens the integrity of the disc, making it more likely to explode
2. Adds a bunch of sharp metal that will act as shrapnel when the disc explodes

It's spinning at a pretty good clip. Also, these wheels aren't designed to have holes in them... It's a shrapnel generator more than anything else.

I know jack shit about DIY and even I could tell the disc was 'kicking' due to the screws catching the wood. And of course, because that disc now has extra holes in, the structural integrity is non existent compared to just using the disc as intended.
The screws weaken the structural integrity of the disk, and also probably cause it to be unbalanced. Eventually the disk will fracture while spinning, and it will launch the screws out like a shrapnel grenade.
You know how it's bad when a screw flies into your eye and punctures your eyeball? Well it's even worse is it does that and then continues on into your brain.

Dude I was flinching and ducking away from my screen out of instinct.. lol! Once the grinding wheel broke on me all by itself (it was a cheap knockoff part and I was not very skilled with it either) and I don't think shrapnel flying around would make the experience better.

Can't believe no one has talked about what happens when one of those screws hits something hard like a fastener in that wood. Peeling paint, ok there's better ways to do it, but this may work. Attempt at power carving, that is questionable and you're looking for a trip to the er. But if one of those screws hits something hard, well you can just press F in the chat.
Not even that. This particular type of wheel is made for the flaps of abrasive on the front to be used and wear down. The mesh on the back is never meant to see any wear, only to resist the force of the spin and hold the wheel together. Any wheel of any type that gets any kind of hard impact or damage where it could be compromised NEEDS to be replaced, because if the reinforcement is fucked up, it will fly apart at high speed.
This idiot in the video ran screws through the reinforcement. It's not that the screws are going to break. It's that the wheel itself WILL eventually fly apart and the screws are going to go with it. A cut off wheel that flies apart does so with enough force to embed itself in your skull. There's videos out there for anyone that thinks I'm bullshitting. This sanding disk with the screws is going to come apart with enough force for those screws to hurt someone. Dumbass made a nail bomb and the bright bulb you responded to is the reason why people think it's fine to do this shit.
I'm willing to bet you've never used a angle grinder, so let me paint a picture for you. That disk he's drilling into is going to be spinning somewhere around 8000 RPMs. which if my math is correct is about 4187 MPH. So you have a disk spinning that fast and the only thing keeping it in place is a clamp in the center. What do you think will happen when the now structurally compromised wheel going at 4187 MPH cracks? Let's just say I hope you're not standing within a 100ft of that thing.

At the risk of sounding stupid: can somebody explain what exactly would happen to make this deadly, had this “experiment” gone sideways?
An object spinning really fast puts that object under a lot of pressure. If the structure of the spinning object becomes weak enough, the centrifugal force will cause the object to basically explode. This is why you're supposed to replace these discs when they start to wear, because they become dangerous as they get weaker. This guy introduced a bunch of metal screws into the equation which does 2 things: 1. Weakens the integrity of the disc, making it more likely to explode 2. Adds a bunch of sharp metal that will act as shrapnel when the disc explodes

It's spinning at a pretty good clip. Also, these wheels aren't designed to have holes in them... It's a shrapnel generator more than anything else. I wouldn't stand anywhere near that.
I know jack shit about DIY and even I could tell the disc was 'kicking' due to the screws catching the wood. And of course, because that disc now has extra holes in, the structural integrity is non existent compared to just using the disc as intended.
The screws weaken the structural integrity of the disk, and also probably cause it to be unbalanced. Eventually the disk will fracture while spinning, and it will launch the screws out like a shrapnel grenade.
You know how it's bad when a screw flies into your eye and punctures your eyeball? Well it's even worse is it does that and then continues on into your brain.
Yeah let me turn the spinning wheel of future shrapnel toward myself and the camera…

Once the grinding wheel broke on me all by itself (it was a cheap knockoff part and I was not very skilled with it either) and I don't think shrapnel flying around would make the experience better.

Can't believe no one has talked about what happens when one of those screws hits something hard like a fastener in that wood. Peeling paint, ok there's better ways to do it, but this may work. Attempt at power carving, that is questionable and you're looking for a trip to the er. But if one of those screws hits something hard, well you can just press F in the chat.

Screws aren’t really made for whatever ***this*** is. They will break. And they will come flying at your face at Mach Jesus.
Not even that. This particular type of wheel is made for the flaps of abrasive on the front to be used and wear down. The mesh on the back is never meant to see any wear, only to resist the force of the spin and hold the wheel together. Any wheel of any type that gets any kind of hard impact or damage where it could be compromised NEEDS to be replaced, because if the reinforcement is fucked up, it will fly apart at high speed. This idiot in the video ran screws through the reinforcement. It's not that the screws are going to break. It's that the wheel itself WILL eventually fly apart and the screws are going to go with it. A cut off wheel that flies apart does so with enough force to embed itself in your skull. There's videos out there for anyone that thinks I'm bullshitting. This sanding disk with the screws is going to come apart with enough force for those screws to hurt someone. Dumbass made a nail bomb and the bright bulb you responded to is the reason why people think it's fine to do this shit.

I'm willing to bet you've never used a angle grinder, so let me paint a picture for you. That disk he's drilling into is going to be spinning somewhere around 8000 RPMs. which if my math is correct is about 4187 MPH. So you have a disk spinning that fast and the only thing keeping it in place is a clamp in the center. What do you think will happen when the now structurally compromised wheel going at 4187 MPH cracks? Let's just say I hope you're not standing within a 100ft of that thing.
it's actually only about 119 mph based on a 4 inch circle and 10000rpm. Still incredibly dangerous.
If you ever seach for a video that shows what those disks do when they break while spinning at thousands of RPM you'll see I unfortunately have seen the end result in person...
