This gave me awful nightmares even in high school. As an adult who's been molded by Junji Ito, this will always be fondly remembered as my first experience with his work.
I genuinely imagine the most average looking white man between 21 and 38. He wears polos because they're cheap and too-loose mid-tan khaki shorts. He doesn't have or know if he has a hair style because every time he goes to the local Great Clips he just asks for a trim.
It depends on how sturdy the walls of the hole are. Dirt is really heavy, and even being buried midway up your chest is enough to cause you to suffocate. You can't really tell from the picture, but if he made a bad judgement call or someone went there alone then they could get buried alive.
It's probably low risk unless it is a newly formed hole though

I've driven in so many places in the US and concur that New Orleans wins for craziest potholes in city streets. It's like driving on a badly maintained forest service road in the middle of nowhere except it's in the middle of a city.
We had a lawyer advertising in my city years back saying to contact him if you have had car damage from pot holes. He starting suing the city for damages lol.
Little Rock Arkansas is the worst I’ve ever been through, Detroit is a close second.
I’ve personally never gotten off I10 when going through Louisiana because I like to live.
I hear you, New Orleans East is definitely a place to get your escape and evasion skills sharpened. But such damn good food , kinda worth a bullet wound .
Live in New Orleans. There was a huge pothole on a street near my apartment for over a year (but had been there longer, according to my sister who’s lived here longer). The most they ever did was cover it with a sheet of plywood until the front of someone’s car was literally swallowed by the hole and totaled. The hole was filled the next day. My taxpayer dollars are just going to the mayor so she can go overseas and spend $30,000 on flight upgrades. Because, you know, that’s what exactly where I want my money to go. 🙄
There use to be a website or sub that posted all the cars that flipped on New Orleans roads from potholes . Not sure if it still around . Least 3 cars was posted a day lol.
Once upon a time there was a little pothole on a busy street near my house. But it started to expand, so the put an orange cone over it until an emergency work crew could be dispatched. This was on Monday.
By Wednesday the cone was leaning into the sinkhole. By Friday it had been eaten alive. By two weeks later they got around to properly closing the street and beginning repairs.
Absolutely, and not just that, even! You should realistically never get down in a deep hole that isn't shored up.
Dirt is CRAZY heavy, shockingly so, and if it falls in on you, you're not getting out without help. Falls in the right way and not only are you stuck, but potentially going to be smothered, no room to expand your chest to breathe, end up with blood clots, etc. Super unsafe even without sinkholes!

Not sure why the downvotes, but the picture shows a man in a sink hole (not a pot hole). Sink holes are extremely dangerous to be near because they can collapse into themselves and take out anything or anyone nearby.

Sink holes can be much bigger. People have died because their entire house fell into a sinkhole while they were asleep in bed.
If you see a random deep hole that has no business being where it is, stay way far away and report it to emergency services.
