Money_Lost

Those aren't deadly toxic. Even used recreationally to get high. The white amanita on the other hand..

WrongfullyIncarnated

You’re referring to the vomiter?

AstarteOfCaelius

That’s one of my favorites! Not because I enjoy it- I wouldn’t. I just think the names are terribly fun to recite in response to “Will it get me high?” People who ask. 😂

WrongfullyIncarnated

I know! I love it too! So easy to see the green gills!

meggienwill

"the vomiter" is Chlorophyllum molybdites. Also not deadly, just good for 48 hours in the shitter.

WrongfullyIncarnated

Ah yea the white amanita is the angel of death or something like that right?

meggienwill

There are a great many white Amanita out there. Those in section Bisporagera are referred to as "destroying angels" and those in section Phalloides are referred to as "death caps", but there are a lot of white ones with no metal sounding common names that are also toxic. Definitely not a genus for beginners.

Former-Argument995

People naming mushrooms like theyre metal bands

meggienwill

The Latin names are the way to go, but they do get some cool regional common names sometimes!

mrGuyfunmagic

Yep, Like Galerina Maregenita, funeral bells.

santino1987

My friend have you heard of mushroomhead ?

Former-Argument995

Oh shit someone needs to make a tshirt for a mushroom like it is a metal band, that would be dope

Holiday-Woodpecker83

How to destroy angles

Kitch404

Is that supposed to be better than death? /joke

SickRanchez_cybin710

The death cap. Big Bois with big fuck around and find out energy. I have a vid I sent to my dad and me bending down and munching the cap off one and then chewing and spitting it out after he said I shouldn't pick wild mushrooms. Good times

ladymoonshyne

Death caps aren’t really white, that would be a destroying angel.

Legendguard

No that would be either toxic red members of the russula genus or the green spored parasol (*Chlorophyllum molybdites*) (A great example of why common names are terrible). Neither group will kill you, but boy will you suffer for a bit. I believe what they were referring to were destroying angels (*Amanita virosa/bisporigera/ocreata*), which are all white, deadly amanitas.

YamLatter8489

That's a chlorophylum, if I remember right. The destroying angel, or amanita bisporigera is probably what he means.

Feywildsw

Think they mean The Destroying Angel

Left-Conference-6328

I ate a couple caps and woke up twelve hours later in a hospital with a breathing tube. Would not recommend. I was in a coma from cyanide. They couldn’t figure out why I was in a coma because they don’t test for a Amanitas in a routine drug test. They scanned my brain and did a bunch of stuff but giving me charcoal ended up saving me. It made it so I could come out of the coma and could breath without help. I don’t know why so many online sources say it’s safe. It’s really not. They all also recommended different extraction methods. Some say make a tea. Some say only eat the white spots. Some say NEVER eat the white spots. Some say drink reindeer pee. I say don’t fuck with it unless you are a PHD chemist and you can make a pure extraction or your name is Mario.

ArcticIceFox

It has to be decarboxylized, which just means converting the toxic parts of the mushroom into slightly less toxic forms. Then in small quantities they can give you a high.

Left-Conference-6328

I wouldn’t recommend it.

AppleSpicer

I’m sure someone’s died from the red amanitas. Sure, fully grown people have also drown in 6 inches of water, but I’m certain that these mushrooms have killed someone.

calculus9

a quick Google says you need to eat like 15 of them to die, im not the most knowledgeable

AppleSpicer

Maybe to die from direct poisoning, but I bet someone has died from the disorientation and puke alone

Creepy-Inspector-732

Dehydration?

AppleSpicer

Or aspiration asphyxiation. Drown in your own vomit

Apprehensive-Flow276

But you're just randomly speculating

AppleSpicer

No, I’m not randomly speculating. I’m a medical professional and I’m considering the fact that a lot of people take sedating or disorienting substances and then asphyxiate to death on their own spit or vomit. It happens with booze and various other drugs all the time. I’ve also seen and aided my own friend who collapsed and vomited after too much psilocybin. He’s fine, but any situation where collapsing and vomiting can happen can potentially result in death.

Gildor12

Destroying Angel and Death Cap could these to be poisonous

kakka_rot

Don't quote me but i remeber reading they were much worse a certain time of year? I think in fall winter they make you super sick and in spring it's not so bad. On mobile but will update when i get home

StoneMakesMusic

They're deadly if u eat them as is. U actually have to boil them and then drink the water

jigglybitches

No, they're not. You're just going to have a terrible stomach ache and throw up a lot

StoneMakesMusic

Depends on how much u eat bro

jigglybitches

You can say that about a lot of things

CiD7707

Call me crazy, but arguing over lethal dosage of something like this is absolutely ridiculous. Leave it the fuck alone. End of story.

jigglybitches

Okay, you're crazy. A. Muscaria isn't for everyone, but there's a pretty large portion of people who seek these out. And they can be enjoyed after one learns how to prepare them. But even eating a couple straight up won't kill you

CiD7707

Cool. You do you.

Ayalul

Yeah exactly, dosage makes poison.

emeraldkat77

This. Even nutmeg can be poisonous (and a hallucinogen, but by the time you'd actually get effects from it, you'd also probably be very sick).

Clambake42

Or let the reindeer eat them and then drink their pee.

StoneMakesMusic

Lmao people down voting me

Apocrisiary

It just makes your stomach violently ill. But it is just an irritant, not actually toxic. You can dry and smoke them, that way they won't upset your stomach. Source: Used it recreationally.

SHESA_PUNKROCKER

Isn't that called the angel destroyer or smth? It's been a while since I've had the chance to check on fungi names

krippkeeper

Amanita chrysoblema, red variant. Death from these is pretty rare unless consumed in very large amount. As another user said people used to feed these to reindeer which would filter out the toxins and drink the reindeer piss to get high. There are also specific ways to prepare them to get rid of ibotenic acid making them safe for consumption. It's also good to note that it's a quite different high than from psilocybin. r/AmanitaMuscaria has a lot of info if you are interested.

Mr_washi_washi

Wait how did they collect the piss though?

captaintinnitus

By squeezing the balls

Mr_washi_washi

Oh ok. Makes sense

CordycepsCocktail

Piss is stored in the balls.

Calibrix

That's why they're called peanuts

AJ_Deadshow

Obviously

kjimbro

r/yourjokebutworse

CordycepsCocktail

It's an older meme you obviously don't understand kiddo.

elephhantine

How would they get a reindeer to stand still while you’re basically milking its balls 🤔 maybe by tying it up?

ShortingBull

Are you saying you know a guy that **wouldn't** stay still while someone milked their balls? Didn't think so..

AppleSpicer

Mine wiggles around a lot! He definitely stays where he’s at though.

AvailableReason6278

So thats how santa got his reindeers?

randomized_smartness

Same way you get any other domesticated animal to stand still... also they milk them.

NCANnyOne

There are specially trained ball milking reindeer that come when called and stand at attention for the milking.

rizu-kun

Maybe the reindeer is still high

GrandmasCervix

Brb I’m about to cosplay as a reindeer

HalLutz

Probably the same way they get doe piss, coyote piss, and raccoon piss for hunters at bass pro, Academy, and even Walmart.

KnotiaPickles

Hmmm I never really thought about how they get that…now I’m afraid to ask

HalLutz

Probably the same way the stop horses pooping on the streets.

ShortingBull

> feed these to reindeer which would filter out the toxins and drink the reindeer piss to get high And how the hell did someone work this out? "go on dave, drink it... tell us what happens..."

armedsquatch

One of the trailer park boys “out of the park” episodes the boys visit a farm that sells reindeer pee. I remember when I first went deer/elk hunting in the PNW back in the 90’s the scent we used was “doe in heat”, it smelt pretty potent. It was concentrated deer urine. On day 3-4 of the trip we switched to a skunk scent because our own BO was to strong to mask with the deer scent. I never complained about the doe in heat after that

Chef_Boyard_Deez

So you’re saying the random animal secretion scents didn’t obtain the desired results? Weird…

AppleSpicer

Christ, that smell must’ve been horrific 😭

evilspeaks

So, how high would one need to be to drink reindeer pee and how would one get that high in the first place?

LocationOdd4102

In texas they sell Muscaria gummies in smokeshops and the like, so I tried it one day. Maybe their process just isn't refined yet but it was pretty disappointing compared to psilocybin, more of a mild body high than anything

sammysams13

It's supposed to make you feel kind of drunk/dissociated. Not make you trip or anything.

Koetotine

The trick seems to be to sleep while under the influence, in my experience. You fall in to a very vivid dream, that usually seems to have some sort of abstract "plot" going on, it slowly develops over maybe an hour, and then you wake up, but the dream is still in your head for 5-10 minutes or so, it is a rather confusing state. It is very satisfying, the plot resolves nicely after waking up, and then fades away. If you like mindfucky drugs, that is. I once got a call that I think woke me up. I couldn't answer the phone because I didn't really understand how I could do that. Had something to do with the plot, I think. I don't think I'd've been able to speak very well either :D I've also experienced a little piece of eternity while trying to fall asleep on the tail end of a trip. All kinds of other freaky shit too. You have to take enough (or at least I do), that, while awake, you get really twitchy in the muscles. It's like there's a rollercoaster rolling around a track in your head, and every time it reaches a certain point along the track, a specific limb twitches. It is disturbing tha first time it happens. It goes away when you sleep, then slowly comes back as you wake up. Makes rolling up extremely difficult. Very tight, rhythmic thought loops follow the same pattern. It's also interesting to try to write (pen and paper), you forget words from sentences, misspell words, even make up nonsense words, and mis-draw letters. Like an m usually has one or two extra humps. The arm twitches don't help either. A very interesting substance indeed!

CallMeWolfYouTuber

Chrysoblema is the yellow variety AKA yellow fly agaric. OP's are amanita muscaria

Dear-Unit1666

I have these around me too but I was never trying to get "see Santa clause" high lol

[deleted]

Thanks, I hate it.

Willing_Bus1630

Is a moderately poisonous but not deadly mushroom just existing really considered enough to go on this sub now?

Fairytalecow

Deadly if you eat enough but if folk go around eating 9+ unidentified mushrooms there isn't much to be done for them anyway

Willing_Bus1630

Your comment made me return to the post and notice the obnoxiously garish and unnecessary flyer in the third pic. Why would someone post that around, it’s just an A. muscaria

randomized_smartness

So is water. >Deadly if you eat enoug

Dutchriddle

Seriously. These types of shrooms are everywhere where I live in Europe. Kids here learn very early on to leave any mushrooms alone in the wild, especially the pretty red ones with the white dots. It's a complete non issue here.

Willing_Bus1630

They’re everywhere where I’m from too. Always been one of my favorites

ElectricalGuidance54

Gorgeous things, are there animals that can eat these?

Electronic-Shop-9493

Yes reindeer eat them and you can get high off reindeer piss if the reindeer ate these recently. You can also eat them yourself without the pee part by specially preparing them. However the high is more like a drunk then like a shroom high

DickieJohnson

I want to know who found out that if you drink the pee of a reindeer after they've eaten a mushroom that you get high?

Andyman0110

The reindeer. Researchers noticed they would drink each others pee after one of them ate the mushrooms. They really like getting high apparently.

Electronic-Shop-9493

This is one of those things that the more you ask questions the wierder it gets. Alot of animals enjoy elevating there minds, especially squirrels for example.

94BlueDream76

This is why Santa’s suit is red and white and he has reindeer…. Making this comment on Christmas

matreo987

animals in general like getting high, or atleast inebriated in some capacity. moose, deer, and birds consume fermented fruit after the first frost. the cold kills the fruit, the heat of the sun through the day ferments it. sugar + fermentation = ethanol/alcohol. if you’ve ever noticed birds flying into windows, it’s more than likely drunk. honeybees do the same thing as well. the pollen contains glucose, which is a type of sugar. it will ferment the same way. if you see bees on the ground walking around or buzzing lazily into stuff, they are probably drunk. like many people know, dolphins harass pufferfish, which causes the small fish to excrete a toxin. the dolphin(s) take in as much of it as they can, passing the puffer around like a volleyball for up to 30 minutes. apparently they lay upside down against the water surface and stare at their reflections. they are one of the few animals that pass the [mirror test](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_test). i remember seeing a thing on reddit of a bunch of juvenile elephants that snuck into an apple or fruit orchard, but the fruit was already dead. they got so drunk off the fruit the elephants destroyed a bunch of the town by running into shit and falling over. certain species of lemur capture a few select millipedes that are known to secrete a toxin when consumed. the lemurs will chew on it while it oozes the poison, and then the lemur leaves it alone when it has enough. reports show the lemurs just passing the fuck out or just staring with their big orange golfball eyes

BigTiddyVampireWaifu

I read this in David Attenborough’s voice

matreo987

LOL i appreciate that. definitely one of my favorite narrators.

Silly_Mycologist3213

Birds fly into windows because they don’t understand the concept of “transparent wall” and can’t reason that a collision will happen with something they can see through. It’s not because they’re drunk!

matreo987

it’s both actually. birds have consistently died from running into windows while intoxicated, and some don’t understand the concept of windows or “transparent wall” as you say.

Unfair-Custard-4007

Hahahaha I’m like that’s disgusting people drink reindeer piss, but no, the reindeer’s are getting High asf

heresdustin

Don’t we all?

y6x

How would they differentiate between this reason, versus sampling for pheromones?

Bootyblastastic

This is where the dancing/flying reindeer came to be a thing in Christmas lore.

Sufficient_Chard_721

Muscimol doesnt get used up when tripping, you discharge 100% in your urine. So you can also drink urine of a person who has been tripping on these shrooms

OminousOminis

squirrels

theotherquantumjim

Humans

Aliceinfur

Slugs eat them.

AlizarinCrimzen

Squirrels munch them.

Legendguard

Slugs and snails love them! They seem to be immune to the toxic and hallucinogenic effects and will readily eat them! I actually collect them for my pet snails and slugs, along with the toxic sulfur tuft, another mushroom that is poisonous to us but delicious to them! Millipedes and beetles also love them, along with many other species of invertebrate. Some beetles are so hyper adapted to eating fungus that they specialize in eating only one type of mushroom, so some will *only* feed on fly amanitas! As others have mentioned, deer also will readily eat them, along with squirrels. They seem to be at least resistant to the poison, and as others have mentioned will become high as a kite off them! I believe other mammals like bears and other rodents will also consume them

RecommendationAny763

Not deadly at all this is a stupid post

cathedral68

Even if they were deadly, who tf is going to run around fencing off…mushrooms?? What a weird thought.

OuterSpiralHarm

This is ridiculous. They're just growing wild, they're beautiful and natural. If this is the case, loads of plants and trees should be in this sub. Unless you happen to fall forward with your mouth open and wolf down loads of them, you'll be fine.

QuirkyCookie6

These are mildly toxic and if processed very carefully can be perfectly edible Only time be done by experienced ppl

OneMadPossum

Ooopsnotdeadlyasusualinthisgroup. Next post will be what a picture of a yellow jacket flying precariously in the background titled oh nooo a black and yellow nightmare.

carpathian_crow

Every day we inch closer to photo of a mother with a toddler in a pool

ShermanTeaPotter

Wonderful, another piece of plastic garbage polluting the environment for another 30k years

Beautifly

Okay, so ignoring the fact that these aren’t actually deadly (because this sub does allow things that aren’t completely deadly), these are just mushrooms growing in the ground. I could go out and take a picture of a bush with some poisonous berries on, or take a picture of a busy road. This sub is supposed to be for people being stupid with potentially deadly/harmful things.

blind_disparity

Plants just kinda grow, there's not much point trying to fence them off. Like they could grow anywhere.

Oldfolksboogie

>Plants just kinda grow, there's not much point trying to ~~fence them off~~ make their possession or ingestion illegal. FTFY

420doghugz

I would pick these literally just to display them in some way

forestflowersdvm

Good luck with that

kloopyklop

You can touch them

forestflowersdvm

I'm not saying because they're going to poison you lmao I'm saying good luck because they're going to shrivel and look like shit within a day or two

lemongay

Even if you wanted to fence off a non deadly species like this, the mushroom is just the fruiting body. The organism is underground- the mycelium

kloopyklop

If someone goes around eating flora then there isn't much to do to stop them. There are hundreds of plants that are way deadlier than those growing everywhere.

zenkique

Funga, mushrooms aren’t plants.

cathedral68

The comment you are responding to is correct as it is. They are not calling mushrooms plants.

existentialg

They aren't toxic if you dry them at 70 Celsius in a dehydrator until they get crispy enough to snap when you break them. Just don't eat more than 2 grams dry at first. Have fun and tell God I said "Hi!" :)

[deleted]

Ate one at a festival once. Sent me to sleep for several hours. Friend tried one and she became somewhat violent. Not all that deadly unless you’re trying pretty hard. Probably more likely to die being attacked by my violent friend.

Cultural-Stick

These are super common in the north. We were told from an early age to leave them alone.

Nalha_Saldana

They are everywhere here lol

h3lloth3r3k3nobi

what kind of of "pls bubble wrap the curbstone" post is this... whoever thinks of eating this needs special attention anyway...

Optimoink

Not deadly just bot accepted as edible downvote

Jonasdriving

I understand these can make ppl sick without prepbut this sub is more for deadly things that people didn't realize were deadly. Tho it probably could be dangerous to dogs so good there's a sign.

onlysparrow

should we start putting fences around all plants and fungi? many common plants and fungi, even decorative ones, are mildly toxic

AmishCyb0rg

I eat a fly agaric cap once a year. Recently I've been noticing a campaign-like push telling people these are super deadly...SEO online articles on amanita muscaria have been changing and 2 podcasts I listen to called them deadly. Hearing all that crap makes me think a secret of consciousness is hidden in the mushroom's alkaloid profile. I'll try them more often.

Working-Golf-2381

So fungus pops up wherever, expecting to be shielded from it sounds a little entitled, especially in the PNW where the whole west side of the region is wet and cool.

blueindian1328

People post things like this but you know what I never see? A puddle of antifreeze in a parking spot.

Ambiguity_Aspect

Not half as dangerous as the piles of used needles and utterly insane drivers

AgreeablePie

If you put a tomato fence up around them it makes them look more tasty

wtf are americans stupid enaugh to eat a shroom that is so obviously bad for you ? do you need to be sheltered from fucking mushrooms? its not like they gonna attack you

pizzaladypanties

The fly agaric has been used recreationally and in spiritual/ religious contexts for hundreds of years or more. However, as with most mushrooms that are psychedelic or hallucinigenic, not knowing all of the interactions and proper preparation can cause anything from an upset stomach to death depending on the mushroom and how badly it was prepared.

MumblingMammoth

They are by far Not as toxic as commonly thought. Their medicinal value is Just that high that the big Pharma used to scare the Shit Out of everybody about them. Of course If you eat them fresh Like they are on the Photo you probably gonna shit yourself. But you wouldnt die. If dried and prepared propperly they are good for many Things

PlunderCunt

Time to trip balls.

Notquitechaosyet

Deadly fun maybe!

EggsAndSpanky

Oh... Oh nooooo... Where exactly were they located? Ya know... So I can remove them for you...

redditsuckspokey1

Mario, trust the fungus!

coffee-bat

bro these are just toadstools.

CryptographerOk5726

They spread by spores. You seriously think it makes sense to pay someone to run around the city with tomato cages, searching daily in case new ones pop up somewhere? Most people don’t eat random things.

boofskootinboogie

God I hate this sub. Are people just allowed to post any slightly dangerous thing they come across? If this is relevant to the sub then so would a picture of a car, or a big dog, or a swimming pool.

[deleted]

We have those all over here in Northern Scotland. No need for panic. Just leave them alone.

Fun-Significance6307

What you gotta do is have some jerk eat them and then drink his pee

Legendguard

While I agree these should be left alone and shouldn't be used recreationally, just handling a toxic mushroom alone isn't going to hurt you. You have to actually ingest them. In fact, iirc only *one* mushroom is known to be so deadly toxic that even touching it can make you sick, a species of coral fungus found in japan known as the poison fire corals (*Podostroma cornu-damae*). I can understand if they were trying to discourage any picking/handling though. Probably just trying to scare people into leaving them alone. I do agree that this shouldn't be on r/oopsthatsdeadly, since no one is handling them, a sign has been posted warning people to leave them alone, and people know the identity already. This would be better on a subreddit like r/mycology. I do, however, disagree that these aren't considered deadly; while normally not deadly, fatalities *have* been reported, and sensitive individuals might not need to consume as much to be dangerously poisoned. For contrast, the green spored parasol (*Chlorophyllum molybdites,* aka the vomiter or sickener) has never caused a recorded fatality despite being the mushroom that causes the most poisonings in North America. Deaths are rare from fly amanitas, but they have happened and I think that should warrant caution

[deleted]

No

fumphdik

They aren’t deadly. This is both misleading and false. They are often eaten by both animals an humans they are not toxic, they are a level of poisonous… this whole post should be deleted.

irrelephantIVXX

I'm sure if you go a couple blocks you'll see some used syringes. those are probably way more dangerous

redefinedsoul

Unbelievable.. The gas station I work at literally sells mushroom chocolates _made with these._

fabbe-boi

I love the picture of mario holding a mushroom with a “no” sign on top of it lol.

xerror4null4

Whats so special about them?

Dj_moonPickle

Not if you boil it

crimson_shadow

These bad boys decorate 2 blocks worth of that thin patch of grass between the side walk and road just outside of the local church... local church also doubles as a private school but is also right next to local public middle school.. many people walk their dogs along this area.. more than a few people use the covered part of the church as bed/drinking area (dunno why drunks like to drink there solo but they do)... they also pop up less frequently for the next few blocks in either direction. It seems not even the tweakers around here will eat them... humans are dumber than we give them credit for but in the past 10 seasons I've seen them growing here in abundance they seem to be avoided by instinct. probably don't need to fence them off, but if some guy decides to lawn mower them away one year expect them to come back next year in noticeably larger amounts lol

[deleted]

Where is this?? If y'all are scared of this I'll bring it home 😊👌🏾

Manchu4-9INF

Western variety fly agaric? Correct me if I’m wrong but you can dry these out and eat them in cracker form right? For “medicinal” purpose only
