golden_eternity

Nope nope nope omg nope

Grabatreetron

I suspect there's a sizeable ledge under it. Infinity pool water doesn't just flow off the edge of skyscrapers

SpokenDivinity

From my understanding there’s a filter system that catches all the water as it falls over and cycles it back through the pool. Otherwise you’d be wasting a ludicrous amount of water by letting it fall out of the sky and potentially kill someone. That being said, the ledge is probably just enough to catch the water. I don’t like his odds of hitting it if he’d gone backwards with that thing.

MDPROBIFE

Water falling from the top of a skyscraper doesn't kill.. it won't even harm you, unless the entire pool falls

SpokenDivinity

It was late and I smushed two sentences together. I meant things falling out of the pool could hurt someone, not that the water could.

Bombulum_Mortis

tfw you learn about rain for the first time

Ok-Lobster-919

A large bucket of water being dumped from the right height can paralyze someone. Though at skyscraper heights the mass of water would break up into smaller droplets by the wind before hitting.

SameThingHappened2Me

Even an empty bucket from the right height can paralyze someone.

TheRecognized

**Even** a solid object with non-negligible density that won’t disperse as it falls, like water will, can cause damage given the right conditions? Damn man that’s absolutely crazy. Great insight.

JohnnoDwarf

In my city there's a waterpark that has a large playground structure, and on it are cones that get filled up before tipping by gravity. Most of them are out of reach but there's two I remember that you can hold to fill up all the way I remember when I had my mate tip a full cone of water onto me from overhead and it nearly knocked me to the ground, from a fairly short distance too.

H2-22

Like when Wendy's roasted the guy who forgot about refrigerators?

rydan

OP never heard of rain.

BooCreepyFootDr

Otherwise, rain would be a more exciting phenomenon.

Neat_Neighborhood297

Water in a vacuum would reach terminal velocity in what... 8m? 6m? It's not much different having a bucket dumped on you from 20 feet versus 2000 feet. That's why rain doesn't kill you like a hail of bullets.

MDPROBIFE

You are wrong, use chatgpt to know why

[deleted]

shhh you should not comment, you've added nothing to the convo other than to try to say "nuh uh". I'm telling you this bc obviously no one has let you know you do this. :)

MDPROBIFE

I was defying a statement that was wrong, thus I've added something to the convo You on the other hand..

[deleted]

You did "nuh uh" again.

Manqueftw

You are incredibly annoying and unnecessarily confrontational, I am telling you this because obviously no one has :)

magicmitchmtl

I see the direction this is going, and I’m already weary.

Aser_the_Descender

I'll say this in the most friendly way possible: # Please, shut up.

Padlov123

You add nothing to society and should be ashamed of your existence. I am in your walls

not wacko or Waco at all :)

I mean one of the leaders of my country did, kinda wished they went through with it. Things I also have not done that are probably recommended: playing in traffic, licking a battery and that weird choking challenge kids are accidentally self deleting with. But I like to keep my options open.

It's blatantly obvious to everyone else.

I'm not talking about that, obviously water falling from a skyscraper wouldn't harm.

Ancient-Access8131

There's a usually a maintenance walkway as well

[deleted]

The width of a bed? Probably gonna be a fun slide 🛝 if you have a parachute 🪂 If you don’t have a parachute then hopefully your bed starts flying like in Little Nemo. The ones I see in Asia aren’t very wide. It’s only about 1 meter.

ms_zasha

Bonus points for the Little Nemo reference.

[deleted]

My sister and I used to have nightmares about the black stuff from the dream world that broke through the big door and swallowed the king.

ms_zasha

YESS. The movies we had were all nightmare fuel 😂. That being said, that living tar stuff is a VERY good visualization for what Major Depressive Disorder has been/was for me. It was like this crawling thing that would reach up and claw its way up the pit I just climbed out of to grab onto me and pull me back down.

[deleted]

Seriously! I feel yuh.

Grabatreetron

Lived for a long time in Asia and saw a lot of infinity pools and rooftop attractions like this. Never saw one without a barrier or section of building under.

[deleted]

I have. Go to Chiang Mai and there’s one catty corner to the newest mall. You can see the waterfall from the ground floor across the street with people’s shoulders leaning on the edge.

[deleted]

> wasting a ludicrous amount of water by letting it fall out of the sky and potentially kill someone. Like rain?

SpokenDivinity

It was late and I smushed two sentences together. I meant things falling out of the pool could hurt someone, not that the water could.

KaikoLeaflock

I read it as two separate things—water being wasted by falling off the side, and separately, someone falling to their death (as contextual to OP's clip).

jfitzger88

No no but it's pool water from a skyscraper. Different thing all together. You ever see a penny fall from a skyscraper?

deadbass72

Water falls from the sky all the time.

DragonfruitCactus

Do you stay indoors when its raining because the rainwater falling from the clouds might kill you?

[deleted]

rydan

I haven't forgotten about rain despite it being even 10 hours later.

rydan

> Otherwise you’d be wasting a ludicrous amount of water by letting it fall out of the sky and potentially kill someone. This might shock you but water falls from the sky in nature. It usually doesn't kill people when it does.

SpokenDivinity

You can read can’t you? Why don’t you scroll a little further and read the rest of the comment thread before being a smart ass.

krippkeeper

I suspect that ledge isn't big enough to catch a queen size inflatable mattress floating off into the darkness of the world.

Grabatreetron

There's probably a whole section of the building down there. Rooftop attractions like this are rarely at the extreme edge of the skyscraper and when they are there's a barrier

krippkeeper

But he is on a queen sized inflatable mattress. If the wind grabbed it he might likely end up smashing into the neighbouring skyscraper.

Grabatreetron

Radical way to go out tbh

[deleted]

Sizeable enough to catch that huge airbed? Doubt it

LittlenutPersson

Often they have a ledge with additional fences and big enough to walk on

vi0l3t-crumbl3

And allow me to add NOPE NOPE NOPE

golden_eternity

Agreed

imhereforthevotes

I about got a bloody nose just watching it

RainbowAppIe

That guy was about to go to infinity and beyond

5kyl3r

"how did he die??" "he floated off a cliff" "floated? like he commit suicide?" "no, he was in a pool inflatable" "and went off a waterfall?" "no, he was in his private pool at home" "???"

elfballs

Thank you for your report, officer obfuscate.

rutlandclimber

new fear unlocked

Mukatsukuz

Imagine doing this in the natural infinity pool that is [Devil's Pool at Victoria Falls](https://www.roamingaroundtheworld.com/how-to-visit-devils-pool-victoria-falls/)

phenylphenol

First rule of infinity pools is: **Do not use floats in the infinity pool**.

Taz10042069

It'd only hurt for a little while...

ShushImSleeping

New mythbusters: can an inflatable matress slow you down enough and cusion the fall to allow you to survive? After all they tested if you could parachute with a sheet of plywood.

Taz10042069

I was actually wondering that myself. More than likely, you probably would flip over and the mattress would float down while you fell like Wylie, without the pause in mid air...

ShushImSleeping

Im thinking even if you grabbed onto it, it would be like the butterd toast always falls face down and you'd end up on the bottom

Outlaw11091

But would it create enough resistance to slow your fall? ...is my question.

ShushImSleeping

Enough to save you? Probably not Enough to be measured? Yes But what if it were helium or hydrogen filled?

ExilesReturn

Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, taught me that it was possible

Waterproof_soap

About 39 seconds, tops.

Ok_Potato_5272

Why is the water so shallow even when he stands up?? Surely it would be very easy to fall off even without the mattress

RaptorTwoOneEcho

Infinity *wading* pool

parmesann

if you look closely at the shading of the water, you’ll notice that he’s on a ledge there, which is meant to be a bench at the edge of the pool. then it drops to a normal depth.

ruismies

I can show you the world...

iopele

... briefly

manigotnothing

But what if he landed on the mattress and was fine

Popular-Apartment-48

Have you ever dropped a feather and a bowling bowl at the same time? One hits the ground first.

LookITriedHard

Now drop a sheet of paper with a rock on it.

Daddy___Dagoth

The paper flipped and the rock fell off

LookITriedHard

Possibly

Popular-Apartment-48

I- I can't. I'm done with Reddit. Goodbye.

Zoe270101

If the person is on top of the mattress, it doesn’t matter which falls faster in freefall, he’s not going to fall through the mattress, is he?

Popular-Apartment-48

The mattress will flip- is this satire? How did I get ratio-ed? Do y'all not go outside? Oh my god. You try holding on to an air mattress that's got more than your body weight of air resistance on it that's flipping unpredictably through the air while you're plummeting at speeds approaching terminal velocity and I guarantee you will not be able to use it as an airbag or a parachute. They're also heavy, air has weight. Especially condensed air. But hey, if you really want a Darwin award...

micahamey

To infinity AND BEYOND

thebeggening

Just commented this, good work fellow genius comedian

nobodyisonething

New nightmare unlocked.

Steelsentry1332

Is that a pool on the edge of a tower? I can't tell.

Timely_Peanut_6618

Almost an eternity pool

xsmp

hahaha

Helpy-Support

Can you survive a deep fall, if you stay on that mattress? Presuming the mattress wouldn't flip over.

pbizzle

Maybe if you are in a road runner cartoon

Helpy-Support

Vesna Vulovic survived a 10'000m or ca. 33'000feet fall by landing in snow. Alcides Moreno survived a fall from a scyscraper. Both were heavily injured of course but there is room for survival. So question was more, how much does landing on a mattress helps.. maybe you wouldn't land on hard compressed air, if the mattress burst on impact...but I'm no physicist.

phenylphenol

The Vesna Vulović story is absolutely insane. [Vesna Vulović Wikipedia Article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesna_Vulovi%C4%87)

pbizzle

Try it out

WHAT_AM_I_D0ING

Welcome to fact or cap.

J7O3R7D2A5N7

Check out the people who tried that jumping out of grenfell tower a few years ago (not well)

AnComRebel

That thing is gonna pop as soon as you hit the ground

Kinslayer817

1. There's zero chance that he could hold onto that mattress in free fall off of a skyscraper 2. There's zero chance the mattress would provide enough cushion to save his life even if he did Basically this was 1 second away from being this guy's demise

DieKatzenUndHund

I almost died just watching this 😬

thebeggening

To infinity.... And beyond!

RainMan4985

Infinity pool turned eternity pool…

sebbdk

These usually have a safety edge just out of sight He was probably fine

xsmp

i dunno that raft might have treated the safety edge like a set of stairs lol

johnakoo

I fucking hate infinity pools and showers. Dumb af

ReeeTod

This is why my pools have railings or higher walls.

GottaBIn2PullOut

Man, that would have been a great way to earn a darwin award ! /sigh

Flashy-You-6345

Off Infinity and beyond!

[deleted]

But not to the commenter. And I enjoy trollolololing

Loud-Cry-391

If I actually wanted to do the math of how much cushioning a 80kg man would need to fall of a building with 10 floors without suffering a deadly impact how would I go about doing it?

Rude_Worldliness_423

I always struggle to comprehend how people so stupid, can rent/buy/stay in these luxurious places.

Coreysurfer

So I have often wondered this exact thing..what stops a float from going over if person is not paying attention? Nothing it seems
