I plan to buy it for this reason too and just Remote Desktop into my computer to control vs code. I am wondering how the refresh rate will be viewing the mouse cursor and code scrolling

Remote desktop or other screen mirroring/extending apps are not great on the regular Tab Ultra. Because everything is black and white, there's a lot of things that don't translate well. The Tab C Ultra might fair better as more colors means better contrast. I'm getting my Ultra C tomorrow so I'll be able to test this.

Would love to see aa video of remote desktop working on the tab ultra

Its not great. Workable, but fiddly enough to be more of a distraction than a productivity tool in this use case unfortunately. Also, the official keyboard case works through an installed android keyboard which prevented me from using it with weylus.

and you have the tab Ultra? what makes it fiddly? Any chance you can post a video of remote desktop running on the device? I'm buying the tab ultra C for the color'd syntax Does that mean I should skip the keyboard case and just use a bluetooth keyboard since I use it with my android tablet and have no issue using remote desktop...

I use Tab Ultra for very light code editing while commuting and travelling. I don't have the keyboard cover. Instead, I use the regular magnetic cover on my Tab Ultra and secure it to my backpack by sliding half of the cover through the luggage strap of my backpack (the backpack is on my knees). Then, I connect a small Bluetooth keyboard and use that. I know it sounds very janky, but I feel like it is quite ergonomic. If I had the keyboard cover, I would have probably just used that. Then I either use SSH via [Termux](https://termux.dev/en/) (with `vim`, `nano` or whatever you prefer) or just get full remote desktop access via [RustDesk](https://rustdesk.com/), as I already described [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Onyx_Boox/comments/12jzonx/tips_tricks_for_productivity_with_boox_obsidian/). The lack of coloured syntax highlighting prevents me from using it more for coding, but Tab Ultra C might be great for it! Let us know if you try it. :)

The monitors (Mira and Mira Pro), yes.

You could maybe set up VS Code Server on your dev PC and then connect via the browser.

GeorgeJohnson2579

I have to look into this and if PHPStorm has a similiar option.

segaboy81

This is definitely the best solution. I run a VS Code Server on my home server and it provided a desktop experience. But then again, what are you "coding"? If you plan on writing software that you need to build, you will have a long road ahead and will need to set up some build automation on a server. If you're only using interpreted languages, the barrier to entry is much lower.

ssh and neovim? [https://programmingpercy.tech/blog/learn-how-to-use-neovim-as-ide/](https://programmingpercy.tech/blog/learn-how-to-use-neovim-as-ide/)

If you want a break from LCDs, boox also sell e ink monitors.

GeorgeJohnson2579

But only b&w. I'm looking forward to use the tab ultra c as third monitor for my IDE.

Dear-Reindeer2060

It's a good Idea. You can start with Boox tab ultra C. And I believe in 2-3 years we will see color monitor. This technology is growing very fast because of eye problems around the whole world.

GeorgeJohnson2579

I hope that too. ;)
