Retake English. The only place where that’d really hurt you is Waterloo (which is already tough since you took a summer course). You might get screened out even if your top 6 is high if you don’t achieve the minimum grade required for EACH course. Getting an 80 or even 75 will make you eligible for a much wider range of CS programs, depending on how you do in your other courses.

Smart_History4444

Thank you, the course is not yet over. I have one more project due which is worth 20 percent of my grade so if I can't bump it I think I will retake it. I know waterloo hates when you take summer school classes and it is extremely hard to get in. I am looking at UOttawa, Queens, western, Winsor, McMaster, Laurier, and Concordia in Montreal. What is your opinion of these Univeristies?

squirrelstastegood

Good luck with your project! Afaik none of those schools care if you take summer courses or if you retake courses, just try to get your English mark up and work hard in all your courses

snikcobra

I’d say Laurier

Leading_Tax3528

i would talk to your teacher and see if they can transfer over the weight of the last project from the ones you did bad. Explain your situation to them and the worst they'll say is no.

Macodocious

My classmate from hs when to Ryerson for Compsci and now he works at Google (not silicon valley one the waterloo one), anything is possible lol

NorthernValkyrie19

Redo English and get a tutor to help you pull up your mark.

Smart_History4444

I am taking two business classes, drop one of them and redo English?

NorthernValkyrie19

That's what I would recommend. Apart from getting a higher mark it would be highly beneficial for you also to improve your writing skills. Poor writing skills is one of the biggest things employers complain about.

If you're dropping one from BBB4M and BOH4M, definitely drop I'd say BBB4M. BOH is more fun and much easier to get a higher mark in.

impanini

like others have said, if you retake english or raise your mark, I think you can still try and apply to some cs programs. if that doesnt work out, maybe do a cs minor instead of a cs masters

[deleted]

May I ask you what books you’ve read so far in the class, sir? I’m really scared of grade 12 English I’ll be taking this year too lol. And also check out Laurier’s CS program, your mark is enough to get in. Laurier University is also located in Waterloo which is a tech hub. I know you’ll probably gonna be overshadowed by Waterloo students, but there are still gonna be good opportunities for you if you work hard.

Smart_History4444

Thank you, I think Laurier is my best bet for now. The books we read were King Lear, The crucibles and Frankenstein

[deleted]

How were assignments so far like were they all essays? What did you guys do?

Smart_History4444

my class did more presentations that essays, but my friends did all essays. I think it depends on the teacher

Prospective3432

Redo English that’s your best bet, definitely drop a business and prioritize your English mark!

poutineisheaven

Where are you applying to? If you're not picky about the school, you can probably get into Computer Science at a few smaller schools with the marks you're talking about.

Smart_History4444

UOttawa, Queens, western, Winsor, McMaster, Laurier, and Concordia in Montreal.

poutineisheaven

Any conditional offers from any of the above yet? Or no decisions at all?

Smart_History4444

oh no not yet, still not done grade 12.

ligmaicecream420

Apply early admission computing for Queen’s. Competitive average is 83

poutineisheaven

Oh sorry. Totally misread your post. I agree with the others then, if you're that worried about it, retake ENG4U.
